When you thought you've explored everything with the first character, the second character reveals more! Awesome story, great characters, fun gameplay, incredibly varied side-quests, Yakuza 4 is a must-have for open-world enthusiasts. A huge plus if you like Japanese culture. Graphics are a little behind, but at least the face models are good as well as body animations.

I love this game, every time I think it's almost over something else happens and it gets even longer. I haven't had a game last me this many play hours in a long time, and I have hardly done any of the optional quests yet. I guess I need to do this one by category.

I love this game, every time I think it's almost over something else happens and it gets even longer. I haven't had a game last me this many play hours in a long time, and I have hardly done any of the optional quests yet. I guess I need to do this one by category.

Combat: It's fun, not amazing or anything, I would say a lot like the Batman Arkham series, but without the need to use certain attacks for certain foes. You can upgrade your attacks in different ways by leveling up, and there are many different upgrades to chose from. You can also equip weapons(sledgehammers, bats, guns), or pick up things off the ground (signs, bicycles, couches...). All in all, combat gets an 8/10 for being both fun and brutal.

Story: Amazing, I am on the last chapter and watching everything unfold is great. It's certainly the highlight of the game with a little bit of everything. I want to write more on this, but I don't want to give anything away, 10/10 hands down the best story I have seen in a game this console generation.

Side missions: There are a lot, and they are great. Some of the side missions are stories in themselves and certainly add a lot of depth to the game. Again I can't say much about them without giving spoilers, but it's easily a 10/10 as well.

Graphics: Stunning, the character models alone are great, which made it very clear why the game was a 22 gig download. The city is vibrant, and well constructed as well. The only thing that could be considered bad is that you end up seeing a lot of the same faces as random encounters, but again, the game is already 22 gigs, so I will only take off 1 point for that. I will give the graphics a 9/10.

Audio: it's all in Japanese and some Chinese, so you will have to do a lot of reading, which is something I don't really care for, but it's well worth doing. The music doesn't really stand out, mostly just random scores that are meant to match the mood of the scenario, which is about what you would expect from this type of game. I would give it a 7/10, but it's certainly not an aspect I care about either.

Mini-games: I don't even know how to rate these. There are just so many, and some are bad, while some are very entertaining. But I don't think you have to do any of them for the main story line or side quests, or at least not do well on them. Most of them are easy to pick up after some getting used to, but hard to master. Some of the mini games are; bowling, ping pong, batting cages, arcade shooter, arcade crane game, fishing, darts, golf, pool, and an entire assortment of casino games. I am sure I am missing some, but all in all I would give the mini games a 10/10 for numbers, and a 6/10 for functionality, so sum it up at about 8/10.

All in all, I really want to give this game a 10/10, but feel a 9/10 is more fair. I loved it any think anyone not willing to pay the 20 dollars for the download is crazy. Just keep in mind, it is 22 gigs, so make sure you have to room before you download!

I think optional quick-travel would have improved the game, and a more explained story would have more casual appeal for us dumb gamers. Overall, the lack of actual open world interaction is detrimental to the one feature that the game tries to impress with. It's simply no GTA, and you will most likely not play around with the game, but just go to the different mini-games and do as instructed. Also, graphic violence and noticeable loading times. Standout moments: 1) A photo-event feature where you capture some totally spectacular events and use them to learn new tricks. 2) Citizens can be knocked over, but only with precision and care, and it's fun, and there's a trophy for it. 3) When all four heroes work together in the final chapter. 4) The karaoke mini-game. 5) Japanese board games implemented with great care.

That said, I feel like I've seen a part of Tokyo. The game deserves an extra point for the realistic approach to the city, as it then becomes a document that lets you study aspects of a culture realistically. Also, the story has some remarkable moments. One of the cutscenes is one of my favourite cutscenes in any game, and it's pretty long and cinematic.

The production value is up there with the best of the crop. There are also plenty of mini games that are surprisingly well integrated and fun. This game is a "Japan Simulator". If you ever wanted to visit Tokyo then this is the closest thing you can get. I think R* and the Yakuza Team are by far the best developers when it comes to Open World, Sandbox games.

Yakuza 4 is very story driven like the Metal Gear Series and has a ton of high quality cutscenes and massive dialogues. If you want to completely dive in in a video game universe with japan/yakuza themes then this game is heaven.

I think Yakuza 4 is one of the best games if not the best game for PS3!

Yukuza 4 is an excellent game. The free roaming RPG mechanics and real world locations are back in force, as is the brutal / hilarious combat. In fact... That said, Yakuza 4 IS a better game than it's predecessor. This is not so much due to the now re-instated hostess clubs (which were annoyingly edited out of part 3), but due to the fantastic plot, which weaves together the stories of four different playable characters (each with a unique fighting style). It's a pleasure to see the plot's mysteries slowly unravel and the characters thread's inevitably come together. I don't want to spoil the ending, but jeez, I'll just say: BEST END BOSS FIGHT EVER! The game is at turns funny, touching and totally bonkers. But it is always very, very entertaining. Expand

It seems that Greg decided to write his little review right after rushing through the story mode, leaving out the side quests and mini-games. I mean come on, you get paid to review games. At the very least, TRY to actually complete the game and experience the whole package offered by the game. How do you judge a game when you didn't even finish half of what the game really is (and which is what makes it unique as no other game in the market offers anything similar)---that is, exploring the vibrant open world on the streets of Tokyo and experiencing all the fun witty mini-games and Japanese wacky humor-packed side missions. Greg's review is like when someone bought a novel, then just glanced through the summary on the back of the book and thinks he's done reading the book. To give this game a score of 65% is insulting, not only to the game developer and the people reading the review, but also the reviewer himself. You know that this game deserves better. 65% means this game is just as bad as crappy games like Def Jam: Icon, Kane & Lynch, Zombie Apocalypse and Hamsterball. Really? Expand

The good story, many sidequests and good representation of Tokyo make up for the sometimes repetitive and outdated gameplay. Technically, it plays like a PS2 game and the graphics aren't great, though the cutscenes are amazing. The interesting characters and the unlockable, brutal moves will keep you playing through to the end, but don't expect a great brawler.

Very entertaining, the european version isn't cut as Yakuza 3 was, as you can now have fun with all the mini-games of the city (including the hostesses in the bars!). Sega choosed to make us follow four different protagonists to renovate the gameplay, resulting a clever and very deep scanario.

Four bad-ass characters, 100 billion yen, one amazing story. Yakuza 4 takes everything good about Yakuza 3, reduces the amount of kids and generously rains awesomeness on the player.

A strong 7. This felt like the shortest Yakuza-game on PS3. Easy-forgettable story. The only thing I remember from it is the policeman Tanimura, whose voice and face is the cute and sexy Hiroki Narimiya - famous from the Honey & Clover tv-drama and the movie Ace Attorney.

Это длинная, разнообразная и интересная игра. Провел в ней уже 70 часов и прошел только на 36%. Там есть чем себя занять.

Yakuza 4 is primarily a 3D beat em up game where whenever your not beating the crap out of gangsters and street punks, you're exploring a town full of mini-games, silly side quests and other distractions. It's a fantastic game with a great story that's an improvement on the third game in every way.

Pros: - Combat is superb. The beat em up sections in the third game were great but

It's a fantastic game with a great story that's an improvement on the third game in every way.

    Pros:
    - Combat is superb. The beat em up sections in the third game were great but defiantly got a little tiresome after awhile because of the fact that you only had one playable character with a somewhat limited moveset. Yakuza 4 greatly improves this by still having series mainstay kazama but also 3 new playable characters with their own movesets and upgrades. Aside from this combat is great for the same reasons is was in 3. It's satisfying and simple to get the hang of but doesn't feel like a shallow button masher because you'll have to dodge enemy attacks and figure out the right moments to strike back especially with bosses and when playing on higher difficulties. Lots of people might get sick of the semi-regular random encounters but they never bothered me.

-Exploring the city and playing mini-games can be surprisingly engaging. Whenever your not beating random goons the game almost borders on virtual tourism. You can go to a grocery store and buy health items that are actual products you can buy in japan, then you can head to a Sega arcade, play a prize grabber, play mahjong, go to a hostess club and then eat at a restaurant that actually exists in Japan. I can just roam around town and get hooked on this stuff for hours, playing it almost as much as the actual combat.

-The story is also really great. It's an intense, plot twist heavy drama, with very likable and well developed characters. Each of the characters parts intertwine with one another and the whole game just feels like your watching a really great and well acted crime film.

    Cons:
-The story has a few weird plot holes and conveniences.

Much better than the third one, the cut scenes were improved but I hate they added more characters you can play as. It made the game harder but at the same time a little boring because I just wanted to play as Kazuma. I did like how they brought back the hostess clubs as they were one of my favorite features.

Quite some time ago this was the PlayStation Plus game for the PS3 so I decided to download it because it's a free game, but I never actually played it. As an anime fan I'm quite used to reading subs while watching what is happening on the screen so I didn't have a problem with that but I can understand those who are not used to that could find it annoying. The cutscenes are too long in my opinion but I forgive that for the great story. The gameplay is the heart of the game, getting to go around the city as 4 different characters, each with different fighting styles.
Thankfully you can't just punch anything while you free roam the city, you can only attack when attacked by thugs in the street or set fights in the game. For me this is what really made the game. Without this restriction it would be just like GTA but with a smaller map.
All in all I would say it is worth playing.

The soundtrack is incredible as well, and perfectly compliments the characters and story. As with all Yakuza games, it's hard to just play a short session. Reader beware: Once you get hooked, you are not going to want to turn the game off. Expand

This games a step forward in gameplay and having multiple characters and the sound is still great, but I found the story **** stupid, and the game is piss easy this especially affects the bosses and they still haven't fixed the side quest issue I had with the last game, but I still love it I think it's a tad overrated by fans though

Great story. Kiryu is a little absent in this game but still a great Yakuza entry.
    The characters are amazing.

The most boring and pointless of the Yakuza games. The game follows four different characters so when you start to like and get used to one you are forced to switch to another so there is little to no character development and the fighting is clunky and the final boss sucks

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (I played this on RPCS3) This game has 4 playable protagonists... and it somehow works. The story started well but ended off pretty badly. (((R U B B E R B U L L E T S))) The combat is really good each character has their own style. The open-world at first looks bad (because there is only Kamuracho) but it is super deep, you can crawl in the sewers and on the buildings. Expand

ehhh, rubber bullets are you kidding ..... nice characters bad story. it introduces saejimas, tanimura and akiyama , 2 of which are returning characters in the series, but the story was not good, kiryu was dragged in for like no reason, and the game play was not good, unless you played someone like saejima or kiryu, who were the only gameplay i kind of enjoyed, it felt wonky, i just didntehhh, rubber bullets are you kidding ..... nice characters bad story. it introduces saejimas, tanimura and akiyama , 2 of which are returning characters in the series, but the story was not good, kiryu was dragged in for like no reason, and the game play was not good, unless you played someone like saejima or kiryu, who were the only gameplay i kind of enjoyed, it felt wonky, i just didnt like this game, good soundtrack though i guess Expand

It often seems like Yakuza 4 is conspiring against itself, holding its own cool features back behind technology and game design. It's not that Yakuza 4 is a bad game, but rather that too many of the game's eccentricities don't work in its favor.

This game is crazy as all the Yakuza games before. The graphics are not that good but the details of the virtual Japan are truly thrilling.

If the Yakuza series were merely the sole franchise keeping the long tradition of the 3D brawler alive, it would be worthy of praise. The fact that it manages to do that while also offering some of the best storytelling in the industry-and that it accomplishes these things essentially once a year-all combine to make it one of the most impressive series around. Yakuza 4 comes from the best possible video game pedigree, and it does its predecessors proud.
