Played it on PS Now. The story is tense, emotional and well paced, visuals are gorgeous. But the gameplay is pretty repetitive and can be very frustrating (combat when zombies rush you). But story and atmospere always kept me going.

No game I have ever played has made me fall in love with characters so deeply. By the end of this game, you have an undeniable connection to these characters. When hiding from zombies in the game, in the real world you will try to slow your beating heart and calm your breath for fear of being heard by a clicker because you feel like you are actually there. The story on top of this exhilarating game play, brings the entire game into that category of legendary masterpieces, not just in the video game genre, but in all of media and dare I say art. Expand

I first played this game when I was 13 it completely caught me off guard on just how amazingly good it is I've been playing it for the past few years now I can say that I completed it over 25 times on different difficulties and still to this day it does not get boring. The game's characters are incredible the combat and stealth are done so well. this will be forever my favorite game of all time.

The Last of Us was released for the PlayStation as an exclusive, which ended up sparking many debates around the world whether video games should also be considered art. And keeping in mind what this game did, the debate was absolutely necessary. And keeping in mind what this game did, the debate was absolutely necessary. Just by the fact that this one game could make someone talk about this topic itself proves that it is not just an art, it is a masterpiece. Although I haven't actually played this game, I have watched PewDiePie's gameplay on it. And trust me, in no way is this going to affect my verdict on it in any form.
The Last of Us follows the story of Joel, a man who lost his daughter in a sudden zombie outbreak. He manages to rescue a girl named Ellie who was the same age as his daughter, and from there begins their journey to travel across the country to get a better future. Ellie is not an ordinary person. She doesn't get affected by a zombie bite, which is because of her unique genetics. So an organisation named The Fireflies wants to use her to create a cure for the zombie outbreak, which is why Joel and Ellie must make it all the way over there alive.
I really like story based, linear games. A Plague Tale: Innocence is one of my favourite games. And this game really reminded me of that. For having a good linear game the story must be phenomenal, but that is not all there is to do. The characters must also make us feel some bond. Everyone I have known who has played or at least known about this game talks about how Joel and Ellie feel like friends to them. This is the reason why there was so much outrage on Joel's death in the sequel.
Joel and Ellie have a bond that can neither be described as friendship nor guidance. It is something way more than that. Joel has always considered Ellie as a daughter, while Ellie sees Joel as someone she can look up to. This is the reason why Joel is always so defensive in saving Ellie, and even killed the Fireflies to save her in the end when he learnt the only way to cure the world was by euthanising Ellie. If this was any other game everyone would have said something like, "Bruh what was the point of going so far if they had to just end it like that UwU!?" But they didn't. That's because within the runtime Joel and Ellie form such a bond with the gamers that they feel inseparable.
And finally what makes this game so good is the graphics. The animation, the character design, the atmosphere, the motion capture - everything has been done to the point. The music is also very nicely put to use, and the whole idea of Joel playing a guitar is what made this bondage so good. If a single thing was put out of place, the whole game could have fallen apart. In spite of being a zombie game this has more focus on the human element rather than making the player want to go out there and go on an all out rampage.
Let's put it this way - video games are definitely art, and The Last of Us is definitely a masterpiece. It's kinda sad that the sequel does not live up to the expectations that this game gave, and that is the reason why people hate it so much. Because it has created a bar so high up it itself can't reach it now. As a standalone game this was absolutely perfect, but I don't really mind the sequel as much. I hope the franchise returns back to its roots in the future. I'd really appreciate that.

The game is simply a masterpiece. From the level design, story, character interaction, and sound everything is carefully crafted. Ellie and Joel's relationship is what defines this game. Due to frame-rate issues, I played the game on easy-mode as I was more interested in the story than the game-play, I found the story immensely compelling, so much so that I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I think this is one amazing game despite the limitations of the software.

Great game. I feel like it might have been a bit overhyped because I spent years hearing about it and then when I finally played it, it wasnt as amazing as everyone said it was. Although, it may just be me and I may be at fault for creating hype for myself that would obviously lead to disappointment after. Still, I think it is a very good game and would probably put it around 8.5/10 if notGreat game. The greatest game of all time, if you're just getting into TLOU franchise I'm warning you fourth coming, no game will ever come close to this as your first playthrough, the second game compared to this is like comparing quartz to diamonds, truly the single best defining game of this generation, likely to influence games and gamers for decades to come.

P.S do yourself a favor and never

Absolutely amazing game. It follows the adventure of a grizzled Joel and a 14 year old girl named Ellie as they make their way across a post apocalyptic United States. The game has an amazing story with an ambiguous ending that was sadly completely screwed up by its sequel.

The Last of Us is a great action-adventure game that manages to capture the feeling of post-apocalypse and survival. The story is alright but way too manipulative and borrows heavily from other, better, material. Still the segmented survival gameplay and the amazing audiovisual production makes the game an experience everybody should check out.

Despite the breakneck pace of the prologue, it takes quite a while for The Last of Us to pick up some speed again. However, once the cold harsh winter arrives, the action (and story) ramps up. So much so, it puts most Hollywood productions to shame. [July 2013, p.76]
