Beautiful experience. So much to do in one of the biggest open worlds I've ever seen, even without the expansions of the game. Also there are more interesting tales besides the main one. The variety available while you're creating your character is really deep and goes beyond imagination. A hell of a game, at least you should have 50 hours of good playing time secured.

Good - Huge, beautiful and immersive world with almost limitless role play possibilities and gameplay choices. Like all truly great games, you can sink hours into Skyrim without really doing much in the game. The main story, while not as well suited to all players races as Oblvions is excellent and fits perfectly into the land of the Nords. The overall gameplay is far superior to any scrolls game that has come before. JUst a great, great game with potentially thousands of hours of gameplay.

Bad - Yes there are some bugs that persist even today and some can be frustrating. Lore wise its just not as open ended as oblivion; if you care about such things as I do, you would never choose a Dragonborn to be anything but a Nord or maybe Imperial, anything else would be stupid.

Verdict - Any game of this scale is going to have bugs, some smaller ones have never been fixed, but that doesn't stop Skyrim from being a truly great game and possibly the best rpg ever made. 9/10, FACT.

Out of all the hours I have played Skyrim, I have had only one real game-breaking bug which was when I lost my companion, Lydia. I could never find her and couldn't get her replaced. But other than that, the gameplay is fantastic. Really addicting.

Skyrim was the second chapter of The Elders Scrolls that I played, and from early hours of play the changes from Oblivion were quite marked, some positive but some negative.

The plot of Skyrim is outstanding, and narrative cues such as the return of the dragons, Skyrim civil war, the rise of the third Aldmeri Dominion and the prophecies about the Dragonborn have made sure to make it spectacular. I loved also some references to Morrowind, as the return of the dwarven ruins. However I did not like that (not a spoiler, you can also understand it from the announcement trailer) events in Skyrim play a protagonist role in the whole saga, but all that has happened in the other chapters assumed a marginal role, role of lesser importance, they were "only dark omens before the return of the dragons". This made sure that Skyrim had an excellent story, but has weakened the importance of the stories of the previous chapters, and this is not right, and I do not like. Among other things, important or not, I preferred the plot of Oblivion.

The gameplay of Skyrim is mainly as large as The Elder Scrolls games have accustomed us, but it has some elements improved: the structure of the fight system has progressed, the editor of the character it's been improved, the use of magic with two hands is good, the sprint allow to run faster, and of course the Dragon shouts are great, they make the game more original. Also you can perform various task to create and get items such as wood and iron. On the other hand, however, there are some pretty serious failings and flaws: there aren't hammers to repair weapons and armor, or rather the weapons and armor literally do not wear out; the magic can not be used with sword and shield (in Oblivon was possible), the skill tree is oversimplified, the difficulty in general was rather lowered. In other words, the gameplay has been removed from the perfection achieved in Oblivion, in favor of a simpler gameplay, perhaps for an audience of younger players. And I did not like this.

The graphical leap from Oblivion to Skyrim was surprising: the Creation Engine is a great graphics engine, and artistic beauty is amazing. A stunning soundtrack, epic main theme composed by Soule, based on the one of Morrowind. Personally I haven't had to deal with many acclaimed technical problems and bugs in Skyrim on PS3, because I took the game months after its release, when apparently they had been corrected.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is essentially a fantastic game, one of the best rpg-games in history, a masterpiece in reality. Some choices in the gameplay could be better, but are not so important after all. This game is already legend.

There are a lot of secrets, too.
The only real flaw i found to this date is de horse riding, really laggy and buggy
There are also long loading times in PS3 version, and some frame rate issues with crashing.

Ok, some advices to enjoy fully this game: if you're used to RPGs you may have the impulse of searching everywhere, do everything and talking to everyone. DON'T! You can get bored easily if you do that! Do the main missions, talk to people when you feel to (they're very talkative). You can accept missions but don't waste your time fulfilling them on purpose (normally isn't worthy), steal only money, some value things and potions you may use. For instance, I specialized my character in one hand weapon (and shield), archery, and heavy armour (I recommend you to specialize your in 2 or 3 too, it can be magic too), About alchemy don't get obsessed with wanting to discover all the potions, use it from time to time. I had so many potions that I never used! (specially magic potion because I chose not to improve my character in that skill. Now I might do this with the rest of the game). If I had done these previous things I'd probably had rated this game with a 10. About partners: they're usefull but they can die so if you're using them to carry your belongings make sure he doesn't die. They might be anoying sometimes when they're in the middle of your way but they always let you pass. One last thing: you start with normal mode but you can change it at any time (you can put it mor difficult or less) although you shouldn't have much problems in normal mode, maybe at the end of the game which reminds me (make sure to have some room if you want to take 2 or 3 magic weapons because I think you can not go there later). It took me 66 hours to beat with some extra missions but I still have so many places to visit! So yes, like some people said you can spend more than 100 hours. This is a must have game. Enjoy it! The adventure awaits! Expand

Prior to updates, once it reached a fairly large size the game would just not work. You were done. Since the updates, along with the long awaited DLC, Skyrim has become a fantastic game for PS3 gamers. While there are still frame rate issues with larger file sizes and some glitches in the game, nothing I've come across is actually game-breaking anymore.

In terms of story, Skyrim has an okay one to offer. It's pretty basic to break down without spoilers: you're the chosen custom created hero (Dovahkiin, or Dragonborn) who will follow some quests to save the world from an apocalyptic threat—a dragon by the name of Alduin. It's pretty fun, but very short. It can be completed in around 14 hours. That aside, there's so much more to do that makes this game live up to the hype. In fact, you don't even have to complete the main story to get something out of this game. Just go out and explore the beautiful visuals, create your own path and story, read some intriguing lore, and enjoy the experience that you forge.

This might be my most-played and most-replayed game of all time, up there with KOTOR, Chrono Trigger, FF I/IV/VI, Star Control II, and Diablo I/II/III.

While it has it's flaws and a few notable bugs here and there, it's probably the best and most wide-open-ended-world RPG ever created. You will never finish every subquest. You will never have nothing left to do. Never.

And don't listen to the "zero reviews", that's people throwing a friggin tantrum. This is one of the most popular (and for good reason) RPG's of all time. Yes it has some bugs, all Bethesda games do. You just deal with it. Keep auto-save on, big deal. You'll spend 100-200 hours on this, for sure.

I don't like the melee interface at all, but the magic and bow interfaces are top-notch. I absolutely love playing a stealth-archer style. if you REALLY like melee, then this is not the best interface. It's still enjoyable overall, but there's no dodging, and aiming your melee weapon is about as good as the ridiculous Jedi Academy games.

    Gameplay 9/10

A couple points off for a crappy melee system, but everything else is really neat. It can be flaky at times, especially if you try some buggy and weird things like riding your horse up the side of a mountain or jumping off cliffs into dragon nests. But overall, it does what you want and is fully engaging at all times. The bugs you get used to.

The enemy AI is stupid, unfortunately. A point off for that. Instead of being smart, it cheats and knows your location once discovered. Then you get swarmed and die. So you get good at taking things very slowly, unless you're a tank.

    Creativity 8/10

While a lot of it is standard-fare fantasy RPG, it has it's share of neat storylines, locations, and peoples to interact with. It has a unique feel to it, and doesn't feel trite.

    Music 9/10

The music often gets stuck in my head for days after a lot of playing. The main theme, played when fighting dragons, especially. Very well done. I'd listen to it beyond playing the game and have been tempted to buy the OST.

    Visuals 9/10

The backgrounds and locations are really well rendered and engaging. I really feel like I'm sneaking through magical caves, dank catacombs, enchanted forests, and grand castles. I wish they had a camera feature like in Horizon Zero Dawn, for better screenshots, but it's still well done.

    Characters 7/10

Your own character has no personality, so not much to speak of there, but you do run into some interesting NPC's. Though Serana (on the right here) blows them all away in terms of interactability and personality. As soon as you can start the vampire plotline in the vampire DLC, do so, and get her as a follower. It makes the rest of the game much better.

    Plotline 8/10

Also mostly standard-fare fantasy stuff, but with a unique elder scrolls flair. Hard for me to judge, after playing through it dozens of times now, but it always held my attention after all that time, so that says something about it.

    Emotional Engagement 6/10

Without character development, it's hard to say, but I feel for some of the characters that I'm interacting with, at least.

    Replayability 10/10

Infinitely replayable. On MULTIPLE occasions, I won the game and immediately restarted another character. That says it all. I wish it had a New Game+ mode, but it doesn't matter, because you can cheat and buff your characters pretty quickly if you really want to.

Also, there's a ton of add-ons and hacks. Especially on Xbox or PC. PS4 is sadly limited, as Sony has weird legal regulations that limit what they want uploaded to their servers. Which is a shame. I hope they revisit this before the next sequel comes out, and get over themselves and allow things.

    Difficulty */10

Difficulty is up to you. There's multiple settings. Start with normal and up it as you buff yourself. These days, I start new games on the hardest difficulty and manage fine even with no armor or weapons, because I'm used to the game. Once I super-power-up, I'm unstoppable and just chop through everything like butter.

Skyrim has a simplified customisation screen, allowing you to get into the game quickly, while still having a character tailored to your specification. The general movement of your character and the animation of the game finally seem to have taken the step into Next-Gen Gaming, moving away from the stiff-moving gloomy-faced characters in the world of Oblivion, Skyrim brings a new air of life into the Elder Scrolls' world, borrowing a lot of its features from Morrowind (Arguably the best game in the series) and just improving on them slightly. The combat no longer feels like you're just running in and swinging a sword around like a piece of paper until everything's dead. Skyrim's combat has some real weight to it, and although they consume a lot of energy, the charge attacks really make the difference between life or death. The Camera (3rd person, specifically) has been re-positioned and put in the same place as Morrowind's (just zoomed out a bit more) to allow for better vision and easy use of bows and magic in third person (Though there are still some problems when trying to loot in 3rd person). Most elements of the game have been made much simpler than even Oblivion. The quests in Skyrim, though simpler, feel much more hand-crafted, much like the dungeons. Now the problem with Skyrim. Simplicity. Yes, a degree of simplicity is required and expected, but this game is an RPG which, to me, implies there's going to be some number-crunching and a good chunk of reading. Skyrim doesn't really have this to the extent I'd hope for and it hurts it in more ways than it helps. Other than getting perk points from levelling up (really just a big bunch of passive abilities) there's no limitation to your stats. Expand

My other major trouble is the inability to respec as monsters and the like keep getting tougher with your level (that automatically increases) but the skills you've decided to use might not match - yes you can adjust the difficulty, but that approach is like a sledge hammer quickly becoming too easy or too hard. Additionally, Magic is too hobbled. Swords and armor aren't skill restricted, that is you can pick up an Iron axe and wield it just as easily as an Orcish mace - as it should be. Your ability to access those weapons is determined most by your ability to craft them, challenging but not difficult. However all magic is directly restricted to your skill number (not how many points you place in the tree) meaning you have to be really dedicated to grueling your way through magic if you want to be a primary spell caster since using melee weapons and arrows is so flipping easy. There are a few bugs, but most are recoverable (I have 14 saves allowing time for a bug to present itself so I can reload) and I've only experianced 2. 1 in a "werewolf in jail" quest which in my first playthrough was almost unrecoverable because I went to the DLC before reaching white run (so don't do that). And one was in a Moth palace where a gate wouldn't open after I killed the enemy before he could come through it. Very enjoyable over all however, a lovely game that I highly recommend to everyone. Now with the negatives, the game is bugged, and laggy, however this is to be expected with a game of it's size. Also the towns and cities feel darker and more depressing than Oblivion, and so do the guilds. Although thankfully the mindlessly dull dungeon treks have been brightened up by the addition of better designed caves and dungeons which makes the game much more new and exciting than Oblivion. So yes, the game is littered with bugs and lag, but it is definitely one of my favourite games of all time. Expand

Unfortunately I found the main story fairly lame and I felt disinterested in most of Skyrim's characters and skipped over most of the dialog which should not be the case in an RPG. I found myself only completing quests for rewards rather than any story purpose which is a missed opportunity. I also did not like most of the character models in Skyrim, the humanoid faces were awkward to look at. As I played Skyrim on PC I was disappointed that the UI was very console friendly at the expense of much keyboard/mouse support, which is something that is inexcusable for a game originating on the PC. Overall Skyrim is an epic game and one that has a lot of depth, its a pity that the characters and overall story of the game are not better but it is what it is. Recommended. Expand

While The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim does not revolutionize the RPG genre it sure does bring fresh new content to the table. From epic scenery to ferocious dragon battles. From epic scenery to ferocious dragon battles. The world of Skyrim left more to desire though, wishing for a more ambient and interactive world to explore. Don't get me wrong the world itself and detail of design of this game is amongst the best I've ever seen these past years. That's the main reason why I did not give this game a 10/10. Lost 1 point for lack of ambiance amongst the world. Exploring the world itself can take time and not to mention playing on "Master" difficulty will add plenty of hours to main quests and side quests. Whilst playing on anything below "Master" will definitely leave you wanting for more since the main quest is a bit short but can be elongated if the difficulty setting is changed. Then again, there are plenty of other quests the game provides you that will keep you busy through months, that is if you're the perfectionist or adventurer type. There are plenty of crafts to master from smithing to enchanting weaponry. I took another point off due to the basic level up system Skyrim has, while there are a variety of options there's not enough to say it is a true RPG leveling system. It follows more of the likes of Dragon Age, which is simplistic and does not really leave room to create unique characters from pures to hybrids. The giants are stronger than dragons debate I can say it is the difficulty level you're playing and the dragon you're fighting. A regular dragon is amongst the easiest, whilst a frost dragon can 1 hit KO the character. Most of these people complaining about the length obviously didn't take the time to change the difficulty setting of the game and just basically rushed through the main story instead of allowing themselves to enjoy this game. There's tons of books scattered around to collect that provide knowledge of certain areas, characters, history, organizations, and ect that can keep you busy reading if you're the person who enjoys expanding you're knowledge about Skyrim. I have to agree with some people stating some side quests left more to desire and that's another reason why I'm not giving this game a 10/10. About glitches and bugs found in Skyrim, we have to understand this is an open world sand box game so expect plenty of bugs and glitches. There's really nothing game breaking other than some words cannot be learned due to a bug on the game but does not necessarily impair you from completing quests.Overall this game is worth the $60.00 for players who are RPG fans. Many people claim this game is repetitive but which game isn't? FPS games = shoot/mission over/ cinematic/ infiltrate shoot/ mission over/ cinematic. That debate loses plenty of credibility fast as this game provides plenty of other options to keep yourself busy and away from monotonous dungeon clearing. Expand

Skyrim is one of the best RPGs out there, placing you into one of the most engrossing and addictive environments in video gaming history. There are hundreds of quests to finish, items to collect and create, and places to explore. The character is fully customizable, from the class selection down to the facial features and hair.

Ok, let's be honest, there are a lot of bugs and issues with this game.
The fact it freezes forcing a restart roughly once every 3-4 hours, the fact your companions get stuck and then in some cases just disappear of the planet, the fact that some quests are bugged based on the fact you have already done and area, or 1/2 way through another quests that crosses this one.

Despite all this, I think Skyrim is an excellent game. From a size point of view it will keep you busy for months, from the fact you can build your character the way you want, no preset classes. This gives amazing scope for trying something new. A tank mage for example. you decide hiow you want your character to progress.
The freedom to basically wonder around doing any dungeon/cave/tower in any order you want is great. I've had one quest in my tracking list for 3 days but everytime I try to get to it I get distracted by something else.
I like the construction skills potions/leatherworking/blacksmith are all fun to do without being too laborious. With the extra things like marriage, vampirism, lycanthropy it's a great game and none on the PS3 are larger. If you like RPGs you won't get bigger or one with more scope than this, so avoid at peril.

Just make sure you save the game often :)...just in case

Skyrim traded game play for story and for that I was rather disappointed but at the same time I can't exactly stay that way when no other game out today can even come close with either element. A good story will keep you enthralled for a short time(longer in the case of the elder scrolls games with their multiple story lines) but the game play with what hooks you for years. The main quest line was much better executed than the past games and also worked to tie in the secondary quest lines as well but this also led to things being somewhat more restrictive. But onto the game play if you look at the history of the series things have been getting dumbed down or condensed if you want a nice way to say it. Skyrim is no exception and in some cases accelerated the process from oblivion. not least of all was how stupidly east they made it to level up if you know how to exploit you can nearly level a skill up to a hundred(the max) just by casting a spell on yourself while you are traveling to and through your first main story quest. Exploiting the smithing skill is even faster if you have the money to do it and contrary to the past games where doing this is likely to leave you weak in other skill areas, in skyrim there is little to no disadvantage there. There are plenty of new features that were a welcome addition but not enough to make up for all the others that were dumbed down. The attention to detail also suffered greatly but looking at the time scale that the game was developed in I can't put too much blame on them for failing to uphold their original standard. The bottom line is that I expected much better from Bethesda but compared to the rest of the market it is still leaps and bounds ahead, these reviews on the other hand on average are ignorant and at best full of knee jerk reactions. I urge anyone reading these to take them with a grain of salt as few other games out there offer a better technical experience anymore and none offer the same level of gameplay, Expand

The voice acting is atrocious, repetative and sucks you out of this otherwise lovingly created world and the combat is floaty and a bit rubbish. And worst of all was the lag before patch 1.4 (which has 100% sorted my game - 120h save).

And yet, I have played this game more than any other game in years. Skyrim for all it's faults has alot to offer. It's huge, colourful, fun and exciting. You can't possibly move out of the way of most attacks and the same goes for your opponent when they're in the line of fire of your attacks. Two characters strike each other, showing no recoil whatsoever and it comes down to which one drops first due to being higher level. The leveling system is actually pretty unique and fun to tweak, but this is definitely one of those games that feels like you're level grinding to win fights rather then using actual skill. There is plenty of lore, but it's not presented in an interesting way. The voice acting is so dull and lifeless and why would I want to read digital short stories to discover the mythos of this world? If I felt like reading a good medieval-esque fiction I would pick up my copy of Lord of the Rings or the Game of Thrones series, not read hundreds of boring short stories in Skyrim. And the glitches on the Playstation version of the game are just unforgivable. I heard the game doesn't even run 100% on Xbox. This games just not good enough to dredge through the technical problems. It definitely has it's positive points: Huge world with beautiful graphics and unscripted occurrences and a fun leveling up system, but Fall Out 3 is definitely the better of the open-world RPGs this generation. I'd even make the argument that Dragon's Dogma is more fun. So many other games deserved Game of the Year nominations over this in 2011. In 2011 alone I had more fun with Uncharted 3, Gears of War 3, Infamous 2, Portal 2, Batman Arkham City, Saints Row the Third, Rayman Origins, Pokemon Black, Super Mario 3D Land, Resistance 3, Little Big Planet 2, Dead Space 2 and Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword then I did with Skyrim. I enjoy simply wondering around, looking at the mostly beautiful environment. Any game with a game world as large as Skyrim is going to encounter some bugs here and there. However, the amount of bugs and how often they appear is disappointing, to say the least. I find that you can easily ignore these small bugs though, because of how utterly well built most of the game is. The quests are huge in number, with the main quest taking around 20-25 hours to complete, longer if you like to dawdle like me. The side quests are plentiful and keep the game going hours after you completed the main quest line. Also, the length of quests varies greatly, which gives a sense of time to the game. The different 'groups' that you can join are very fun. For example, for those of you who haven't ever played an Elder Scrolls game, you can join one group and complete their storyline and then move onto the next group. Overall, I have greatly enjoyed playing Skyrim, and while there are some nasty bugs and often mild-serious lag problems, it is still a fantastic game which, at least, deserves a long rent. Expand

This is FALSE the game still has big issues. as for bugs and glitches i think i only ran into one, but i think it might've just been my fault because i tried to get to a location i wasn't supposed to be yet and, as a result i broke a quest. The real issue here is the lag and if you want to avoid it i strongly suggest you get the PS4, XONE, 360, or PC versions play one of those and this game is a 10/10. DO NOT GET THE PS3 VERSION!!!.

Now on to the game. Amazing game! What i love about this game is the amount of freedom to do what you want. if you want to completely forget about the main story and go off adventuring you can do that, if you want to live life as a criminal you can do that. you want to become a powerful mage that can hurl fireballs at your enemies? or be a stealthy thief character? you can do that. there are so many possibilities and playstyles to choose from. there is a lot to see and do in Skyrim and at 200 hours i feel like i'm a long way from 100% completion. for most rpg's i've played once i've hit the 200 hour mark i probably seen just about everything in the game. this is not the case with skyrim, i'm past 200 hours and still have many quests i haven't completed and places i haven't explored. it's amazing how much stuff there is to do in this game. It is one my favorite games of all time and if you like RPG's i highly recommend it. you will LOVE this game.

Also, the game is still buggy from time to time after several patches. Sometimes (about twice a play through for me) scripts will break locking you out of progressing a mission, fortunately, there is enough to do that you could get locked out of a dozen or so missions and still have tons to do. Still, the game received several graphic updates with the expansion, whether or not you purchased it, as well as some new models. With this kind of support, and with the expansiveness of the game, I feel that this game should be a purchase for any rpg gamers.

Don't ask me why when I know that more and more developers, (U.S. developers anyway), seem to be on the tit of the Micro$oft power house known as the XBOX 360. The expansions are one issue I don't believe is entirely fair to mention seeing as how those are usually reviewable as a separate entity. My main problem is with the software to hardware adaptation. Skyrim seems to cooperate with the cell broadband processor as well as a man on death row cooperates with the guard taking him to the chair, or table depending on which era you're from. Anyway, the game itself is very entertaining barring a few repetitive dungeons and despite the lack of effort put into the PS3 version, the graphics are very pleasing to the eye.

In closing I believe it may be best to, if one has the means but this copy for either the 360 or PC. As much as I love my PS3, I'm sort of regretting not buying the PC version......8/10, thanks.

    - Soundtrack is addicting
    - Very flexible skill system, can switch from one to another easily
    - Dragons are exciting to fight
    - Sneak attacks are awesome
    - can take up to more than 100 hours of gameplay which is worth the money that you pay
    - dungeon puzzles are very fun to play

    Cons:
    - Few voice actors
    - Lots of bugs and glitches, even after updates
    - Freezes from time to time
    - Renders slowly
    - Shouts are discouraging to use, because some are just resisted and can only use one per fight scaring you to use the other less useful but more interesting shouts
    - Few armor variation
    - Few types of enemies, I feel like this game should have had more enemies with the size of this map rather than just bandits and wolves all the time.
    - AI mounts & followers are sometimes stupid, they attack when you are sneaking which is annoying
    - what you do mostly doesn't affect the game

even though there are more cons than pros, don't be discouraged. This game is amazing and very fun to play. I would recommend it if you are a RPG fan because it really is worth it.

    Performance:
I've played both the PC and the Playstation 3 versions of this game, owning the latter. I bought the game within two weeks after its release, and have logged well over 300 hours in the time that's gone by. In all this time, I have not once experienced a glitch, aside from the fortify restoration loop and the merchant chests, these being more a pair of minor, easily avoidable bugs than of frustrating or game breaking glitches. Lag occurs occasionally (less often with the 1.9 patch), but normally lasts only a minute or two. Loading times are longer than they should be however, even in relatively small areas such as indoor shops.

    Value:
This game is easily the most economic buy out there. Going through the main story, guild, faction, and daedric quests easily adds up to over a hundred hours of playing time; In terms of money, easily less than a dollar per playing hour.

    Writing:
Come with an appetite for lore.

The plots for most of the main and side story quests are very entertaining. I suggest playing this game for its stories as much as for the perks and leveling system. And I especially suggest taking on the thieve's guild, the companions', and the civil war quests early on, as they will emerse you in the lore of the world almost as much as the main story.

    Visuals:
Many sneer at Skyrim's muted color palette. So much so, that they forget to look up and see the beautiful distant mountain peaks and treelined horizons. They forget to pause and look at the shrubs and flowers. They've never peered over one of Skyrim's tumbling waterfalls. And they fail to connect the province's bleak color scheme with its equally bleak state of affairs. The game is set in the Province of Skyrim, a half-frozen wasteland subject to the will of demons and unhappy gods, which is without a King and in the state of civil war. Were people expecting sunshine, rainbows, and rain forests?

    Gameplay:
Leveling up is addictive and requires strategy in order to succeed on higher difficulties. Combat has improved since Oblivion, but still can grow repetitive after a while, largely because many of the enemies have a similar attack pattern (that is to say, none really). Alchemy and Enchanting add a great deal of fun to the game. Exploration is the single best aspect of this game, as Skyrim's map is literally miles wide, and is filled to the brim with secrets, interesting scenery, and places to discover.

    -Bugs

In short I would urge you to buy this game now. Unfortunately, though I haven’t played any of the games DLC, from what I have read the DLC content doesn’t other much, so unless you are a major fan, I would avoid spending money on that stuff.

Full Review (I could go about this game for ages but unfortunately metacritic have a 5000 character limit, so if I miss out anything you wanted to know about I am sorry)
One of the great things amount Skyrim is the sheer amount of game content, which at times can feel overwhelming. I mean I played over 200hours (I know I am sad but I am getting help) and still didn’t complete every side activity quest etc. However unlike in a lot of RPGs where such levels of content are research by padding like fetch quests, in Skyrim while fetch quests are present, most quests are interesting and feel unique to each other. In particularly the quests for the companions which lead you to become a werewolf are exciting. Such vast content is enhanced by the sheer hugeness of game, with its massive map with locations being numerous, and each being interesting. This in combination with the introduction of dragons which are awesome (tough they can get a bit annoying after a while), and an interesting story of you being a rebel or empire supporter and dragonborn, makes for a great game. As far as I can see the only real problem with this is how it can get overwhelming, e.g. sometimes you will go on a quest an in the hour it takes you to complete it you will get 5 new one to complete, though that isn’t a majorly bad thing.

The next thing worth discussing is the improvements over Oblivion. The most obvious improvement (apart from graphics) is the ability to dual wield magic. This helps to increase the level of tension in combat as it allows you to cast spells while attacking with melee weapons, without the attacks being interpreted as they were in Oblivion. Other improvements include the levelling up system, because you can use points to unlock abilities e.g. the ability to create dragon armour. This enhances the RPG elements, because in Oblivion the upgrades are won with the increasing of skills, there is no choice over what skills you unlock. However unfortunately they did take some things out of Oblivion that will be missed. The obvious one is the arena which in Oblivion helped you settle into the game; in Skyrim the arena is gone. Another thing missing from Oblivion is how in Oblivion you could fast travel to all cities from the start, which helped making exploring more enjoyable. In Skyrim you have to spend ages unlocking every city individual by traveling to them. However this is largely nit picking because they haven’t removed so much features it is a major blow to the overall quality of the game.

Unfortunately they are major aspects of the game I am not sure about.

This first is the emphasis on magic, making it over powered. This is an annoyance if you are like me and you prefer melee, because I found that enemies would just shoot ice spikes at you draining your stamina, making you a sitting duck in a whole heap of However this isn’t such a bad thing because the nature of the game makes it easier to use both magic and melee, making it more of a tactical game. Certainly more so than Oblivion where you either charged in or keep you’re distant and cast spells.

The second major thing that I struggle to defend is that of the massive difficulty spikes. It is so annoying how often you will breeze through a location without dying once, then you get to like a mini-boss, and he kills you with two hits. This is why I would advise saving often to avoid having to go through the BS again. While some claim this is an improvement over Oblivion I disagree, because in Oblivion while enemies levelled up with you it meant you could control the difficulty by deciding that you level up to make it more difficulty. In Skyrim that freedom is removed.

The third issue is the story. It is fairly predictable and surprisingly forgettable. I think is this largely because the fact you are dragonborn in the game doesn’t add much to the combat as the shouts feel more like an average spell. This means that when the blades place all emphasis on your character, you don’t feel that much more powerful than them. That said the numerous side missions more than make up for the story.

The final major annoyance is how this game is notorious for bugs. I have to say I didn’t experience any myself until I got to about 50hours in them the game froze a few times. However this is no major issue because the bugs don’t make the game unplayable as some claim, and aren’t enough to remove all the positive aspects of the game.

Its extremely accessible do to its simplistic but deep leveling system and first person view that makes it more appealing than traditional RPG's. but unfortunately the biggest strength of this game is also its biggest flaw. there is so much to do in this world but very little of it feels meaningful. A big reason for this is the lack of character motivation. without spoiling anything, the story evolves around you being someone very special and destined to fulfill somewhat of a prophecy, but the character has no emotional value attached to this quest, making the main quest feel just as much as a side quest as any other. There are some really cool quests in the game but there are just as many boring ones that you will find your self doing simply to gain experience. I'm not saying the story is bad, its definitely engaging enough, but the lack of an emotional connection to it can cause you to question why you are even playing when you are in the middle of a boring quest. combat isn't anything special, and will feel dull in later hours of the game, but a good thing about it is that it gives you a clear idea of what your limitations are based on your level. for example, you know if early on in the game if you see a giant, that you definitely don't want to mess with it, but will be something that you can take on eventually, and probably have a good idea of how high of a level you'll need to be to do it. Even though I found the game to get dull after about 40 hours, many other people may not have the same problem and be engaged the whole time because of the beauty of the world, and is overall a pretty great game, and I understand why it was such an enormous hit, but I don't believe it to be as great of a game as people once thought now that it has been out for a while, but still a game I think is definitely worth your money, due to the amount of content you get out of it, and would say I definitely really liked it despite finding myself having to really push through the times I got bored. Skyrim is one of those games that you hear so much about you MUST try it for yourself. So i did. And for the most part i was very pleased there is SOOOOOOOOOO much to do. The world is larger than pretty much any game i have ever played and i mean that quite literally. Filled with side quests there is probably hundreds of side quests and i'm not exaggerating that either. Also probably theSkyrim is one of those games that you hear so much about you MUST try it for yourself. So i did. And for the most part i was very pleased there is SOOOOOOOOOO much to do. The world is larger than pretty much any game i have ever played and i mean that quite literally. Filled with side quests there is probably hundreds of side quests and i'm not exaggerating that either. Also probably the best thing about this game the sound track it is absolutely beautiful the song of the dragonborn is epic and the songs you hear while traveling are peaceful and calming. However this game that so many people claim to be perfect is NOT perfect particularly for the ps3 version.

The main problem i have with this game is the combat now i have heard many many excuses for the combat system such as i don't get it or i just don't like it because it is different but there is no justification for the lazy combat system in this game now it isn't a bad combat system however it is boring just a simple spam the attack button or hold the attack button it is lazy and feels like you are accomplishing nothing when you attack the sound effects are bland as well. That doesn't mean the voice acting and everything else is bad in fact the voice acting is some of the best i have ever seen in a game. I also give props to the dragon sound effects very well done.

Another very large issue i had was that no matter what you do none of the npcs will act differently i have killed dragons in some of the larges cities in the entire game and no one will respond or even a cheap little thanks to my heroic actions. In fact the most response i get is an attack from the guards if i steal or kill a chicken.(yes that does happen)

The side quests are a tad pointless. Besides the Thieves guild and the Dark Brotherhood quests the side missions are for the most part boring besides a few daedric missions but besides that it is rather pointless things like fetch some gems for a jeweler or get some frost wraith teeth for an old lady.

The big issue is for the ps3 version itself first time playing this game i had to reinstall because large parts of the map didn't load don't like having to do that ever i have even heard from others that the lag becomes to horrible that you can't even play the game.

Overall i really really liked skyrim but it does have problems and they cannot be ignored but i still managed to get over 50 hours of fun out of this game.

2; Actual fundamental gaming experience. This is how good of a game it actually is, not that it's bad, just not as good as my biased mind leads me to believe.

Let's look at my point of view.
TES V: Skyrim is an action- role playing game set in a high fantasy world with medieval-ey technology. Skyrim, to me, is one of the greatest game sever created. It has a special place in my heart, just because of the way it does what it does. It's everyone you could want in a game. An amazing setting, good story and quests, great combat and most of all the ability to create an atmosphere. I think that this is one of the most important things a game can do, and Skyrim does it perfectly. It sets atmospheres for creepy caves, majestic castles, frozen tundras, bustling towns and dank crypts.

Now, the technical aspect. This is where the game falls to an 8. Yes, the game is glitchy. Yes, it is sometimes laggy (not for me). All the other reviews that say it is unplayable are false. It is definitely playable and definitely worth your money. There are lots of glitches that sometimes lock you out of quests, but they are rarely unsolvable. The physics are quite broken at times, too. From my experience the AI is quite intelligent and not that glitchy. The combat is fluent and works flawlessly so I see no problem there.

Here's the thing: what I wrote above is good in a way. It gives the game character. The most perfect games in history are some of the most infamously broken. Heck, look at Super Mario 64. You should NEVER expect to buy and play a Bethesda game without getting a chuckle when a spatula starts dancing or cheese flies of its plate. The same is true for Fallout 3 and 4. One of the reason these games are great is because they're not perfect.

    Summary:
    Pros:
    Fun gameplay
    Lots of quests
    Immersive story
    Great environments
    Cons:
    Glitchy as heck
    Graphics could be better
    No mod support on console

    Overall rating: 8/10

An awesome game that improves of Morrowind / Oblivion in many ways, especially the special abilities / dragon stuff. But it lacked the variety of weapons and freedom that Morrowind had and felt a bit too sparse.

A very good game! Huge world with many caves to explore. Graphics are outstanding! Dragon fights are really fun!
Here's the problem; countless of glitches and bugs, very repetitive, same caves but just a little different, clunky combat, and not a very strong story though it is fairly decent.

The game itself is very good though quests much shallower than Morrowind and Oblivion. DLC is good. The PS3 version, though, is a buggy mess, with a large enough save file the game becomes unplayable.

Plus, in many ways this is exactly the game i hoped it would be - Massive and beautiful open world with incredible freedom of choice to go anywhere, do anything and be anyone you want to be. So why only a 7? Well the problem is when you start to realise that the actual quests arn't that interesting or memorable. Most are just basic fetch quests eg go to a cave to retrive an item and it all just starts to lack imagination and surprise after the first 20 hours or so. That great feeling of dicovery and exploration which was a big part of Fallout 3s charm and should have been central to Skyrims success (especially considering it's made by the same people) is lost. So you see, even without the bugs Skyrim is a still one of this generations biggest let downs. Expand

What is the current build of Skyrim is still fun, and still an Oblivion/Fallout crossover that finally works. However, for all the fun it has, the main quest storyline is short, and combat is starting to get to the point where it seems to be jarring. When it came out, Skyrim sounded like an awesome game, but after time, and after exposing a lot of the repetitiveness, the glitches, and some serious combat balance issues, things aren't looking as awesome as it used to for Skyrim. For example, say I trained my Cooking, Alchemy, and Sneak skills up, that raises my overall level, and in turn, raises the levels of my enemies. That means, I may never be able to beat a number of enemies in the future without an extreme amount of luck or effort. Not good. Overall, Skyrim is a GOOD GAME. It just isn't the best game in the world. The PS3 version of this game (which I may add, this review applies to ONLY), is broken out of the box without patches. If you have no method of patching this game, realize that Skyrim is a broken game after about 6MB in your save file. Skyrim is worth your attention irregardless, however, for all the pomp that video game reviewers gave it, I want to say that some of it is quite bloated. Expand

But I can't deny how INVOLVING this bland excuse for a game can be! Yes, the battle system is godawful compared to that wonderfully intricate hack-slash-block-dodge system in "Dark Souls." (Would it kill Bethesda to add a lock-on system so the fights don't feel like a floaty slap-fest somewhere three feet ahead of my player?) And yes, this game is as glitchy, if not more so, than "Dark Souls." (My personal favorite was a fight with a dragon who decided to fly right through a cliffside and kill some villagers on the other side like a sandworm.) Now here's what they did right with this game- they filled it, and I mean really filled it, with stuff to do. Confession - I've never been able to play more than five hours of a Bethesda/Elder Scrolls game before. Even "Fallout 3," one of the most critically acclaimed games of this generation, just felt like a whole lot of walking through the desert, talking to people who don't have anything interesting to say. In Skyrim, not only does every character have a hundred neat little quests to take on, they're actually DIFFERENT from each other. I got a fetch quest early on and had a sinking feeling I'd be collecting wolf pelt from respawning enemies WOW style for the rest of my life. But no. They really vary it up. And Skyrim, though large, is simply packed with unique moments. You can't walk for more than a minute before some new adventure begins. Admittedly, the game starts to gloss over after your 40th hour, but for once I can honestly say that my loss of attention was because of too much stuff to do, as opposed to samey grinding. I'm not giving it a higher review than 7, because the glitches really do ruin some of the immersion, and the battle system could do with a lot of work. But, unlike Dark Souls, none of the glitches felt game breaking. This is probably because it's practically impossible to do something wrong with your character, but hey. It's an adventure. You won't be challenged by this game, only immersed in it like a grand painting. And that's really not so bad. Expand

On the other hand the 0 point review indicte that Skyrim is a terrible game but again: It's also far away from being a complete malfunction. So, here are my 2 cents: Skyrim makes fun, lots of fun, and has a huge )ingame) world but it also has some problems. First of all there are - of course - the problem nearly every Bethesda RPG has. Lags and Freezes. It's unbearable what Bethesda does to the PS3 community every time they release a RPG. It's nearly a fraud that they get our money with games that a obviously just ported to the PS3 without much work for the actual PS3 version. But besides technical issues the gameplay also has some flaws. The Smithing & Enchanting skills are way too overpowered. With Smithing & Enchanting at 100 each, you easily get the best weapons and armor in the game. It's pointless to play Quests (which often involve boring tasks like "FInd item x", "Kill enemy Y" or "Bring item Z to person A") and get an item as a reward if your own crafted weapons are waaaay better. At least Bethesda knew beforehand knew that this could lead to problems. That's why they introduced for example an armor cap at an armor rating of 567. Brilliant idea, Bethesda.... now, tell me why I should use a Heavy Armor if I already an reach the cap with a Light Armor? The Light Armor adds less weight to your inventory and it needs less stamina and you're able to move faster. Why should I use a Heavy Armor with an armor rating of 1170 if only 567 armor rating are getting calculated in fights? That's strange....

Nevertheless, I spent 94 hours in Skyrim so far and I didn't even finish most of the side quests and even with its lags, freezes, overpowered weapons, a bugged patch and the stupid AI (you'd come to the conclusion that every second room in Skyrim was designed intentionally the way so that your AI companions are able to block the doorway) it's still a fun game.

It seeps into you, but alas, this world is... provocative, in an almost childish, demeaning way. I brought up Star Wars. The reason is thus- the game is... spacey, for lack of a better word. As the combat take place in zero-g, you are reminded of weightlessness... the kind Luke Skywalker must have felt when he became Darth Vader. The swords also glow, reminiscent of the glowing beams of the revered franchise. This lack of originality is simply stunning. On to combat. As my (many) fencing lessons have taught me, sword-fighting is an art, an art that this game fails to adequately replicate. It lacks... the feel, the- dare I say- sensual nature of clanging metal and dented armor. There is no "Riposte", no "Taliae", no "Pos Wershe" as it were. Instead we are left without the proper... tools, as it were to properly execute a more daring style of fighting. Graphics now. Chop, chop. They are pretty, but only insofar as a beautiful, but aged woman is while gazing into her rippling reflection on a cloudy summer evening. Much like this game, she pauses to reflect, as the game pauses with lag. Her movements are stilted, like the movements of NPCs in the game. She also takes up a lot of space... I will comend Bethesda for making such a huge open world for me to explore but that's all they did. The made a huge world with a bunch of things to do, but none of them have anything outstanding to offer. Its and issue of quality over quantity, and this game is defenately going for quantity. Sidequests are so numerous that it is hard for me to care about any one of them, because I just wanted the reward. Even the overall story is bogged down by a lack of immediacy. I didn't give a $#!+ about the story, I was too busy doing missions for the Companions Guild (Which for the record is the only set of events that I cared for). Switching gears for a second I will the say that the scenery is great eye-candy... if you're far away. Up close a lot of the rock textures look pretty lazy and remind me of an old PS2 game. It can be forgiven because of how big this game is, but it still needs to be said. Then there's the combat. Sweet Jesus, what is this crap! There is no skill when talking about the combat in this game, (Unless your using arrows, but even then that's pushing it) everything is stat based. All you do is swing your sword around like a moron until your enemy's dead. No dodge mechanics, a block that only works if your stats are high enough, and enemies that take 25 swings to kill when they can kill you in 3 hits. There were multiple occasions in which the I had exploit the enemy's A.I. to win, and that's never fun. What is fun though are the dragons, though repeditive, are loads more fun to kill than some of the other enemies. I love the enchantment, blackmithing, and alchemy systems in the game and make me feel like I'm actually making progress and getting better at something as opposed to just swinging my sword like a moron. I also love the dungeon crawling aspect and looking for new caves and mines to steel various articles of clothing off of the recently deceased. Ultimately, would I recomend this game? Yes. Is it a good game? Yes. Is it one of the greatest games of all time? No. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to play more Bioshock. Expand

We keep buying the games though so I am going to write this review with the assumption that there are a lot of bugs that will eventually be ironed out by downloading loads of patches that will chew up much of my internet usage in the next 6 months.

To the game, I have to say I think this is one of the poorer games that Bethesda has released of late for content. It is a massive open world but there seems to be too little to do in it. I tried really hard for the first uncountable hours to get loads of quests to do and what happened? I managed to get only two that were really side quests alone. Most of the quests in the game seem tied to the main plot line in so much as I went cold calling (travelling around looking for random dungeons etc.) I found several dungeons, cleared them out, only to find that they were areas the main quest needed you to clear out...

And the dragons. Well, all the talk I have heard about fighting dragons and how cool it will be and how good they would look... So wrong. The first real dragon fight was like going on a picnic with a grumpy aunt and her children. We killed the dragon, who was less than awe inspiring in terms of AI, and there were no cheers or ecstatic reactions. The remaining soldiers just walked calmly around as if mulling around a water cooler trying to grab an extra minute away from the desk at work. The dragon animation was also atrocious. I sat on the watch tower and looked for the patterns, all ready to admire the animation of the huge fantasy beast. In a word... "unnatural" leapt to mid. The whole central theme to the game and it looked very average. When compared to Dragon Age 2 animation (and yes, a different style of game, but has dragons) Bethesda's dragons look rank amateur.

What the game does have going for it though is a big improvement on Oblivion in the same area. First, the generic graphics (for example a dungeon) is filled with colour and beauty. The first dungeon I entered had me stop for a minute just to take in how much of a change had taken place. In Oblivion everything was same, same, same where everywhere you go in this world has points of difference and are essentially beautiful, engaging places. Complex layers of image and sound make this thoroughly engrossing. So much so that I am actually enjoying chasing alchemical ingredients for the very first time!

Also, variety of creatures are really good now. In Oblivion you seemed to fight an endless stream of the same foes over and over through your levels, simply with adjustments being made to the stats of the creatures to make the fight more worthy. In Skyrim there are a wide variety of creatures now, that are all rendered really well and make for engaging battles. I especially love the giants who, when you come near your territory try to frighten you away rather than a direct attack. In fact the first time I came across this I kept approaching because I thought that if they did not attack immediately and just threatened perhaps I could parley and solve some of their problems for a while. What I found was that when I finally reached the giant area that they made kitty cat (as I am playing a Khajit) pancakes with their clubs in one well placed blow...

Finally, the character development is greatly improved. Be who you want to be and specialise how you want to. You are not bound by class, only by skills that increase as you use them over time. Additionally, when you level up you choose either health, magika or stamina to increase and then can purchase a perk for your skills that give you a bit of variety when using the skill and makes your character a lot more useful. The interface for this is simple, but can be annoying if you want to move back to look at a different perk can take some getting used to. Apart from this, it makes the game complex when balancing perks, but less confusing for those who thought classes were so restrictive.

I will play this game a lot. But I also know that the desolation of quests currently is probably to allow for much expansion with downloadable content (the quest for more money). Worth the money I paid for it? Probably not, but the game is beautifully rendered and solves some of the clunkiness of other games in the genre.

And I'm only talking about quest bugs, not including all the other technical issues especially the PS3 versions seems to be plagued with. Thankfully, other than the game freezing during the loading screen now and then, I have been spared by these, but to "make up" for it, I seem to have run into every single quest bug. And there's a trophy bug, too, that prevents everyone with a non-english version of this game from obtaining a particular trophy due to an translation error. Proudly, the developers have announced they won't even look into these content related bugs because they want to fix the technical issues first. Now, two months and a few updates later, the game still doesn't run on all consoles and the quest bugs ect. are still left untouched. It's up to you whether you want to buy such a game, my review will only deal with the game itself, but I will take off one point of the final score. So what do I not like? Mostly how few choices you get and how little impact those have on the game world and the story. Even the civil war in which you COULD choose one side and lead it to victory doesn't really make a big difference. In the smaller quests, mostly one approach is forced upon you and you can only choose between "Yes, I'll do it" or having the quest open in the journal for the rest of the game. (Well, "rest" ... it's open ended, actually.) The main quest is very short, shallow and overall a disappointment, full with hollow characters who are nothing but quest vessels. At least the lore behind everything is nice and there's one good idea about Alduin and why/how he returned. Most guild questlines are very short, too, and mostly kind of uninteresting and even when you could think of a dozen of really natural solutions, the game won't let you, which is especially annoying when you play a good guy and the game "forces" you to do evil stuff. Sure, you don't have to do the quest, but that doesn't change the fact the restrictions feel artificial and silly, reminding you of this being just a game with designed paths and outcomes. Another thing I really hate are the dragons, originally like THE point of the game, but their implementation is so aweful, I have avoided to start the main quest with all my characters after the second one in order to prevent the dragons from appearing in the game. The few ones you meet during the main quest are okay, probably because they are somewhat scripted, but the rest ... Most annoyingly, they appear all. The. Time. You cannot go anywhere without a dragon dropping from the sky and yes, they respawn. What should've been something special and exciting soon becomes tedious. They're also way too easy to defeat, basically just another enemy, and their AI is terrible, without getting into too much detail, but let's just say oftentimes, the challenge is to engage the dragon in a proper battle instead of it flying to and fro around you just because there is some goat on the mountain on the other side of the valley. What do I like? The game world, Skyrim, is simply awesome. Sure, not photorealistic, but it just looks great and is also great to play in. So much detail and love put into all the areas, it never gets boring to wander around the scenery. Cities could've been a bit larger, but that's pretty much the most negative I could say about that aspect. There's so much to do, so much to discover and see, it's phenomenal, and that's not just "oh another dungeon", no, much more to it, like finding a hut with an old woman who seems nice, but you can check her cellar ... ;) Stuff like that everywhere, nice details ect. This game is huge and fills it. I also love the diversity you can have in the playstyle. I have ...hm, seven? Seven, I guess, different characters now and they all play differently. Thanks to the perk and leveling system, you should concentrate on a few abilities and master them. Jack-Of-All-Trades is possible, I guess, but I don't think it'd be all that rewarding. Another plus is that even when you are at high levels, there are certain enemy types, of course, also depending on your style, who will pose a threat and you'lll think twice about confronting them. A squishy mage will have to run from a sabertooth tiger and the heavy warrior type will fear some of the more magical beings, but it's never unfair. (Playing on Normal.) Level scaling is still there, but it works well this time, I hated it in Oblivion. Well, these were my biggest gripes and likes. There are more details and points on both sides I could get into, but this is not the place for it and the limit here is coming to an end anways, so I'll just state that this game is great, but with serious issues. 8/10 for me and as I said, -1 for bugs. (Seriously, the game should've never been released like that, but, you know, "11/11/11" ...) Expand

This is a game full of emotions for gamers who are willing to embrace it. A beautiful fantasy land that makes loading times a thing of the past and is full of surprises. Not only do you get a lot of variety in the locations, the gameplay offers a lot of different experiences as well. [December 2011, p.66]

I enjoyed Skyrim and I look forward to the DLC that we know is inevitably coming. If we looked at this honestly, though, this game probably should have been pushed back a month or so for more polish. It needed it and it still does.

Skyrim is a gorgeous production that truly does justice to the words "roleplaying game." It doesn't just tell us a story, it gives us the chance to tell a story of our own. At its best, that's what an interactive art form should be all about. [Jan 2011, p.73]
