Thanks gaming industry, for the 3 highly praised flaming turds we've received this year on pc. Not gonna lump this in with bf and mw because I love the sandbox style and it's really similar to oblivion, but the bugs and UI need serious fixing. It's really unnerving to feel like you've been had on your platform, and that's all I've gotten the past two months. Expand

The beautiful graphics & design ( yes this is an amazing game to look at) that immersed you into this fantasy world were undone by the inane robots that moved and slided about the place like thunderbird puppets.

The storylines were lack lustre.. I just didn't care. Sometimes less is more Bethesda, dont cram so much in and sharpen your core themes. This game had huge potential but was executed averagely.

You dont screw hundreds of thousand of people on their money, and expect to get out of it clean.

I bought the PS3 version, 30 hours in I couldnt take it anymore.
It looks very bad compared to the other platforms, the perfomance is just awful.
I tried to return it, but they wouldnt let me.
It ended up on the shelf, and I "bought" the PC version.

Now I could say, stick to the 360/PC, just keep away from the PS3 version and you should be alright.
But no, dont buy it all.
First of they dont deserve your money (many devs/publishers dont, but an example must be made at some point).
Second, they keep putting out patches that makes things worse, bugs etc.
In the end you shouldnt feel safe, whatever platform you choose chances are you end up having alot of problems with the game.

    Dont buy.
Atleast wait until the prices have dropped alot, and they have fixed all the bugs.
    If they ever do.

From the very get-go I was amazed, astounded and delighted by nearly every aspect of the game and enjoyed it thoroughly. This lasted about 4 days, the entire time of which I felt that this was a game more than worthy of Game of the Year from developers who deserved their award as Developers of the Year also.
This was until my game progressively became unplayable. I'm not talking bugs or even the occasional quest breaking glitch. I have played and enjoyed many of Bethesda's games and understand that with a game of this scale and complexity these are issues that, although sometimes infuriating, are to be expected.
What is not expected is that after hours of playtime, the game's framerate progressively slowed to a crawl, particularly in densely populated areas - which are some the central hubs of the most integral parts of the game. Whereas most developers reward extensively playing a game, Bethesda seems to have gone the alternate route and actively punished PS3 owners for putting large amounts of their free time into a game that ultimately treats you to a slideshow after days of accumulated playtime. It seems highly unlikely that this would not have been noticed in pre-sale quality assurance, and much more likely that it was simply ignored in favour of not losing sales after a delayed release.
This either complete lack of quality assurance or failure to act on Bethesda's part is compounded by the utter lack of support in the aftermath. After a day-one patch which fixed minor issues, 2 patches have been released since - the first well over a week after the lag problem was reported, which addressed yet more minor issues, but instead of fixing anything only seemed to intensify the problem, introducing a whole new host of problems - backwards flying dragons to name but one. This culminated in the third and final patch for this year, which seems to be dedicated more to fixing the things broken by patch 2 than any of the already outlying problems. The only noticeable change was that despite any and all previous issues, an hour after downloading the update I had my first loading screen full-on freeze.
This had, and still has, the potential to be if not Game of the Year, then possibly Game of the Decade. As it lies, this is a truly amazing game that has been left broken and ruined either by the laziness or malice of the developers that have made little to no effort to correct their errors, and offered nothing in the way of explanation or apology for those who wasted full-price on a game that shouldn't have even been released.

Luckily I've never had anything corrupted other than skyrim data... yet.) and if you turn off auto-save, you'll still eventually get a game that devolves into a slideshow whenever there's more than 2 characters active on the screen.

Bottom line: if you have a PC or 360, get the game on one of those platforms. If you buy the game on PS3, you will regret it. If you don't have a PC or 360, skip this game... at least until the day Bethesda patches the game and fixes all the game breaking technical issues. However, if the recent Fallout titles were any indication, this game won't be fixed... buyer beware.

Skyrim really should have been a 10 from me, but the issues surrounding the lag and broken quests which can so easily infect your save game meaning that 40 hrs of game play is down the drain means I simply cannot say it is fit for purpose.

4 out of 10 is all I can give it and even then I think that is misleading, as you cannot complete the game nor explore most of it without encountering the issues noted above.

"chunkyman" here from the Bethesda Forums. This game is glitchy and laggy as hell for the PS3. Severe, multiple bugs are also present throughout. One example is companions disappearing. Another is textures not loading. Sometimes whole dungeons don't load any of the textures and everything is black. My favorite bug is having the houses in the game dump all of your items on the floor. To those saying we "got our money's worth" I think that's the most ridiculous thing I ever heard. People playing the PC and Xbox versions aren't being told to just play a certain number of hours and then give up in frustration. Its a little bit like having to give back a puppy you love, this game. Huge expectations are met in the first 30hrs then the lag sets in (for us ps3 users) and the love very quickly disappears. I've waited quite a while hoping Bethesda would at least make a public statement but the veil of secrecy and lack of acknowledgement only compounds the problem. Sad.

The more information it stores in its save file, the bigger the save file gets. The bigger the save file gets, the slower the games framerate runs. The slower the games framerate runs the harder it is to move. Eventually, before you've seen even half of its total content your game grinds to a complete halt and you can't interact with NPC's or activate, complete quests or items. This tends to happen after only about 60 hours of gameplay. The game is advertised as having approx 300 hours of content in it. There has been no fix for this yet announced by Bethesda and it is a universal problem. It happens to everyone, just at different times. I repeat, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME FOR PS3.

Bethesda have still not fixed this problem and until they do fix it, which is not looking like anytime in the near future, this game is pretty much impossible to recommend to anyone who is thinking of buying it on this console. You expect a fair amount of bugs and glitches with a large, open world RPG such as this, but the type of bug that reduces your framerate to single digits after 30 minutes of playtime is something that just isn't acceptable. It's a damn shame too because this is a game you're going to LOVE spending time with, but after a few hours deep in, your console is going to punish you for it.

If these problems didn't exist, this game is worth easily a 9 or a 10 and some people claim they've never run into these problems. But all the talk of it crashing hard drives and causing constant lock ups will pretty quickly remind you that you're playing russian roulette with your system. So if you're like me you're probably going to end up trading your copy in for the PC or 360 version, which isn't without its fair share of problems, but isn't going to make mince of your processor.

Here's hoping Bethesda fix the problem soon, before they earn more negative reviews.

This WOULD be an amazing game if it actually worked. The PS3 version is riddled with crippling lag that only rears its head after your save file increases to around 8mb. Then comes the slideshow, the crashing, the freezes, and the grief at loosing a character and plot line you were invested in. The worst part is that Bethesda is trying to shut their eyes and ignore the problem. BeThis WOULD be an amazing game if it actually worked. Bethesda sells a broken game, does not give any explanation and worst they knew that sold an unfinished game...

Average game ruined by game-breaking glitches. It's disgusting to believe Bethesda released this game knowing full well it wasn't even playable. Any positive reviews (especially those giving 10/10) given by critics are more than likely on the Bethesda payroll and to never be trusted for game reviews ever again. Play Fallout, same game, less bugs/glitches.

A complete buggy broken down mess. From falling through the ground into limbo, to trying to complete a quest where all you need to do is talk to someone and the game wont read the quest as completed which alternately ruins the game and forces you to start over in hope that it doesn't happen again! >:( . Get the PC version and be done with it.

Don't buy this game. It won't work properly and you'll be left feeling ripped off, betrayed and frustrated. I will happily rescind my rating when the game-breaking bugs are patched, but until then, this game deserves nothing more than a big fat donut.

It was highly unethical for Bethesda to release this as a PS3 port, they should be stripped of their business licence! The game is utterly unplayable, and this AFTER becoming thoroughly hooked to it's infectious gameplay!

The problem is not with the game itself but rather with the huge amount of game breaking bugs that it contains. If your save file size gets past about 8 megs you should expect to experience significant lag in the gameplay which makes the game just about unplayable. To give you an idea of how long it takes to get to that size of a save file I would say that it comes to about 4 hours of gameplay. Obviously no where near enough time to explore everything this game has to offer. Anyone who has ever played games by this developer will know that this are problems that continue to pop up in every title they release. Next time, SERIOUSLY wait a few days to see if a Bethesda game is worth getting because so far every game I have ever bought from them ends up containing game breaking lag.I have only played the game for a few hours since I can't get any further and I am seriously disappointed and wish I had my money back. I should have learned from playing Fallout 3 and Fallout:New Vegas. Bethesda NEVER fixes the lag problems and glitches for PS3 owners. This game is the worst of them all. Game is broken, simple as that. After the latest and useless patch, 1.3 , my game freezes instantly and I won't even play it now because I'm worried that too many hard shutdowns will damage my PS3. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME

I can not in good conscience recommend this game to anyone for the ps3. Do a simple search for Skyrim ps3 and see how many people suffer from the 'isolated' lag issue only a 'few people are experiencing'. It is not a matter of if you will face these problems it's a matter of when.

I've had the game since 11/11/11. It was amazing at the beginning but has deteriorated into a picture

I've had the game since 11/11/11. It was amazing at the beginning but has deteriorated into a picture slideshow. It's impossible to navigate through any of the cities with the lag hitting even out in the wilderness nowhere near any hold.

The fixes to help gameplay? Turn off auto-save? I would not recommend this as the game will regularly freeze at loading screens causing a data loss based on how long it's been since the last manual save.

I believe Bethesda knew of this problem. 1. Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, using a similar engine and supervised by Bethesda, had the same problems with lag later in the game. The problem was never fixed.

    2. Reviewers, such as IGN, received PC and XBOX-360 copies of Skyrim only. No-one was given a copy of the PS3 to try prior to release.

Three patches so far and the problem persists. I fear that if their record holds true the lag will never be fixed, we will simply see 'working to improve' or 'attempting to reduce' lag, so that when it fails they can simply say at the end of the day 'we tried'. Do not buy this.

Sure some of the bugs are funny but the 0 FPS when you're just happily trotting in the game world has definitely worn out its welcome. I mean c'mon, I can understand a game of this magnitude would have its share of quirks but literally playing a slideshow is no fun at all dude. I had 75+ hrs in w/ a 14mb save file and I have to restart the game roughly every hour just to play the game at a decent fps (10+ minutes of every hour mind you are also consumed by the loading screens). I'll give it a 1 though, simply because the Sanguine dremora prince quest is a riot but implore you good folks, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME FOR THE PS3, at least not until they fix that horrible lag. Hmm.. I guess I can go back to playing Morrowind since it is still clearly the BEST in the series, heh I might even play oblivion again even though I hate those damned oblivion gates just so I can kill time waiting for bethesda to patch skyrim. This is a game full of emotions for gamers who are willing to embrace it. A beautiful fantasy land that makes loading times a thing of the past and is full of surprises. Not only do you get a lot of variety in the locations, the gameplay offers a lot of different experiences as well. [December 2011, p.66]

I enjoyed Skyrim and I look forward to the DLC that we know is inevitably coming. If we looked at this honestly, though, this game probably should have been pushed back a month or so for more polish. It needed it and it still does.

Skyrim is a gorgeous production that truly does justice to the words "roleplaying game." It doesn't just tell us a story, it gives us the chance to tell a story of our own. At its best, that's what an interactive art form should be all about. [Jan 2011, p.73]
