The game places you in control of one gladiator at the beginning, with this first recruit you fight your way through several tutorial matches and then are off on you're own to become the most renown fighter in all of Capua.

    If you love the Spartacus show then you are going to love this game. It lets you build up multiple characters to make them the gladiator you want them to be. SO many different armors and weapons make this game worth it. The graphics are really good.. not GREAT but good. You can go to different arenas, fight legendary fighters and more. Everyone is complaining about freezing and allIf you love the Spartacus show then you are going to love this game.     i signed up just now because of the false advertisement of this game... i will be here ALOT more to critique new titles which deserve recognition and honest responses. Spartacus holds true to the series and with the rogue-like gameplay, brings the score to an easy 9.0
    Do yourselves a favor and don't pay mind to the angry children giving these low scores. sure, the game was buggy at first,    i signed up just now because of the false advertisement of this game... i will be here ALOT more to critique new titles which deserve recognition and honest responses.     Do yourselves a favor and don't pay mind to the angry children giving these low scores. sure, the game was buggy at first, but as a mature human being those bugs will obviously get patched as they have. such critics should be banned for scoring so low, especially when peoples careers are at stake.

    Not sure why this is getting bad reviews. This is a technical and rewarding gladiator experience and unless something drastically changes, this is definitely worth trying out.

    This game is not worth the space it takes up on you system. It is a total waste of time. The game is virtually broken and does not deserve to be downloaded. Seriously, don't get it. Watch the show. Play something worthwhile, but please don't play this game. Don't say I didn't warn you.

    i only got to play spartacus yesterday...and i honetly think that people gave this game a low score for nothing...the game is rather good, i enjoyd every moment of it...just like the series itself

    This game is garbage. It always freezes & if it freeze 3 times during a fight you'll have your character killed. if someone quits online, it freezes & your character dies AUTOMATICALLY. This is just a waste of space & time. Also, it's not my "connections" fault it constantly freezes, its the other players & the servers fault because I've been hearing this happening to other players too. SoThis game is garbage. It always freezes & if it freeze 3 times during a fight you'll have your character killed. if someone quits online, it freezes & your character dies AUTOMATICALLY. This is just a waste of space & time. Literally there couldn't be a better idea for an online multiplayer game. So someone took this GRAND idea and sh*t all over it.

    - Free-to-Play is the    So, Spartacus Legends is out.     - Free-to-Play is the industry's new way to say "Golly gee, I hope we can convince idiot gamers to spend 150 dollars on a DLC pack that gives them 3000 gold!" I know this because this is HOW MUCH a 3k gold pack costs for Spartacus Legends. Notice the word 'hope' in that equation. They're not totally stupid; they know full well people will most likely elect NOT to spend 150 REAL dollars for 3000 digital gold coins to spend in a single video game so they chose to NOT give Spartacus Legends a decent budget to develop on.

    Spartacus Legends is a 5.5 at best. Many will call it far lower. It is, however, fun... if you can get past its horrid, terrible, almost sinful flaws. You can buy gladiators, train them, (although training is a loose term for 'fight computer opponents.') and then go online against other people's champions (through a broken match-making system that can actually lock your system up when your opponent decides to wuss out of a fight and disconnect after seeing your level compared to theirs) but you just cannot do any of these things to a satisfactory degree. Gameplay is primitive, which is actually the nicest thing I can say about it, and the damage models on the characters are always the same, just like Dragon Age: Origins. Just one missed opportunity after another. In all honesty the best way to describe this game is it looks like a port of a PS2 game.

    If you do decide to devote any time to this game you can have some fun, it's actually possible, but it will leave you with a sour taste in your mouth. This game was done WRONG. Free-to-Play is wrong. This is just another example of just why it's wrong.

    Fun game, but there's one FATAL flaw. Without gold, as others have said, this game is broken. You enter the tier 2 difficulty areas and may do okay for a while, but then you will be fighting with ratings of roughly 130 on average against opponents of 260+. In some cases you can be KO'd in three swings. The crowd favor of opponents is ridiculously high which can mean instant gladiatorFun game, but there's one FATAL flaw. Example.. downed CPU without being scratched then CPU stands up with second wind and 0 crowd favor.. hits me 3 times has max favor and kills my gladiator. Let's say you beat a legend and you use your hard earned gold to purchase him.. you try to even the odds with your 275 rating dude only to fight a 370 rating CPU in the same zone. Sure you will win a lot with the legendary guy, but if he dies its another 8 gold to revive him =D the purple quality regular guys also cost gold.. no matter what. The best you can hope to buy with silver are blue name guys. I promise you that no matter how well you have the mechanics down this game is designed to piss you off and force you to pay to win in the end.. very disappointed with what could have been a decent game. It may be free to download, but the game is really just a demo until you dump about $100 in gold on it.… Expand

    You play a lanista--the manager of a ludus, or group of gladiators. But Legends isn't what you'd expect.

    You play a lanista--the manager of a ludus, or group of gladiators. You recruit fighters and manage their careers, but you also take direct control of them in actual matches--this is a fighting game, not a sports manager sim. The game's atmosphere is especially remarkable--everything from the music to the UI to the loading screen tips succeds in evoking the raw, brutal feel of the game's raw, brutal setting.

    The most important element, and the one most would expect to suck, is the actual combat. Astoundingly, Legends has a deep, fun, and addictive fighting system. There are eight different fighting styles, each with their strengths and weaknesses and combos. Unlike in most AAA fighters, button mashing is utterly useless--you've got to actually get good at the fighting system to win.

    On a less cheery note, the game falls apart online. The lag is sometimes barely noticeable, but often is severe enough to make the game practically unplayable. Additionally, you're penalized whenever a fight ends by disconnection--even when the other player (or the game's own servers) is at fault. These problems may very well be fixed completely, but I'm not holding my breath. Still, the game is mainly focused on single player, so these problems aren't as catastrophic as I might be making them sound.

    So the game is good--but what about microtransactions? The game may be free-to-play, but it's a shining example of how F2P can be done right. Microtransactions take the form of gold, a buyable currency that allows you to get items before you're at the normal level required to buy them. With a few minor exceptions, gold doesn't get you exclusive stuff, instead offering a shortcut to stuff you could have gotten through the the time-honored method of chopping people's heads off for a few hundred screaming fans.

    Even if you do use gold, you can only skip forward two or three levels--you're not getting endgame gear at level one. And for those few things that are only available with gold, the game gives you a few gold pieces each time you level up--not much at all, but enough to get a few of those bonuses. Gold is reasonably priced, but if you want to ignore the microtransactions entirely and just play the game for free, you can do so without feeling like you're playing a demo version of the game.

    This is an F2P licensed game with next to zero marketing, so it's more or less guaranteed not to get much atention. The surprising part is that that's actually a bad thing.    … Expand

    Enjoyable singleplayer experience, very poor multiplayer and matchmaking system. Why do you have to be online for the singleplayer part? I'm not buying your stupid coins Ubisoft, I'm not stupid.

    Spartacus Legends is an interesting venture into the free to play territory. Where as most free to play games are MMO and FPS games, this is a fighting game. In this game you buy and manage gladiators as well as equipment like armor and weapons for them and fight in the arena (called Legends Mode) as well as in online battles. As you progress in the arena more challenging foes present themselves, but this is sometimes do to irritating difficulty spikes. Multiplayer battles are your average one-on-one affairs. The best part of this game is how it's not pay to win. Yes you can use real currency to buy gold to purchase items with, but this is more of a means to unlock things sooner. Everything you can buy with gold will be available later when you level up. So putting money into this may help make things easier but it wont guarantee victory. So managing your own gladiators (that can die) and making sure they're equipped with the best items is cool, but it brings out the games biggest flaw. The fights in the Legends mode feel like it comes down to equipment stats rather than genuine skill. This takes some fun out of the experience. The game can be fun at times, but frustrating difficulty spikes and technical issues like freezing bring the experience down. These issues, as well as a somewhat limited combo system, make the whole game lag behind other fighting games. Still, Spartacus Legends can still provide some fun, but the whole thing comes across as more of a disposable thrill. You'll play it a while when you're bored because it's free, but it will never replace those triple A fighting games that you've spent countless hours with, and will spend countless more.… Expand

    For a movie that i got for free on the playstation store i am not disappointed at all.Great graphics,controls and some blood is the forces of the game.The plot is super basic and the game is easy but it's a surprisingly good game.

    Si estas buscando un juego plagado de combates monótonos, con controles toscos, gráficos de la generación PS1 (incluyendo sangre y modelados de plastilina), modos de juego idénticos, un online terrible, y todo con una diversión nula (ah, y con una tienda donde te timan para conseguir moneditas doradas!), ya estás tardando en bajarte Spartacus Legends.

    Jogo fraco,até tentei gostar dele...mas é muito cansativo e relativamente repetitivo,os combates são genéricos e superficiais,resumindo um jogo praticamente nulo.

    I do not think it is fair to complain much about this game because it was free. In fact, it has some good points: some combats end up being epic, the customization options are interesting, there are some main story missions apart from the optional combats... That is okay.     You know what we like? Combat that isn't half bad and not having to pay for our games. So us and Spartacus Legends should have been a match made in heaven. Want to know what we do not like? Grinding. And there is plenty of it in this otherwise acceptable game. [September p.91]

    As a free-to-play experiment, it’s fairly successful. When you download Spartacus Legends you get the full package, not just a few morsels of gameplay, with the rest locked behind a pay-wall. In some ways this is one the game’s biggest strengths but it still fails to dispel a number of its other issues.
