    Fun, fast, and just amazing to look at, Sonic Generations is a great game, and a real blowout for Sonic's 20th Anniversary.

Now imagine that Greatest Hits release, but with remixed and remastered audio, and sometimes even re-recorded vocals, to help give it a refreshing, modernized sound. Changes like this don’t always work, but when put in the right hands and with enough passion and care put into, it can be something really special. Sonic Generations is like that remastered collection.

    Sonic Generations is broken up into two gameplay styles. We have Classic Sonic with the familiar 2D Genesis gameplay, and Modern Sonic with the established boost formula from Unleashed and Colors. You’ll be going through various stages presented throughout Sonic’s history, from Green Hill to Speed Highway to Planet Wisp. Classic Sonic is not 1-to-1 like the original Genesis titles, his weight and physics do feel off a bit, but he still works perfectly fine and you can used to his new physics pretty easily. Modern Sonic in this game is the best he’s ever been in this style. The control has received enough tweaks to make it more manageable compared to Unleashed and Colors. The level designs on both end are great, filled with different pathways and shortcuts to help you get the best time. This is most impressive with Modern Sonic as his levels are some of the most open-ended 3D levels in the series. The boss fights, while easy in some cases, are incredibly memorable and even major improvements from their original counterparts. The game looks fantastic and there are tons of great remixes of classic songs.

    For as short as the main story is, the game offers you plenty of additional content. Each area of the game contains side missions. While you’ll need to complete at least three per area to progress, everything else is just there to provide you with some variety. Some range from simple races, to more creative missions involving other Sonic characters like scavenger hunts or being aided by them to complete a level. Not all of the side missions are winners, though, as a few of them can be quite frustrating to beat, but given that they can be skipped it’s not a big deal. Completing side missions can also offer concept artwork or even music tracks that you can play in the stages themselves which is always a nice bonus. Same goes for the returning Star Rings from Sonic Colors which do the same thing. You can also purchase additional skills from Omochao’s item shop to give you an extra edge. Honestly, the real replay value comes from the fact that these levels are so fun to play through, the most fun I’ve had in a 3D Sonic game in a long time.

    This collection isn’t quite perfect though. It’s missing a few key components like fan-favorite songs and it kind of feels like they didn’t have the time to go far enough with certain details, either that or they only cared to do the bare minimum. The story for this game is easily the biggest missed opportunity. It had so much potential for character interactions, in-jokes and commentary on the series as a whole, but it is absolutely thread-bare in this game. I know that story isn’t what you would normally play a Sonic game for, but the extra effort would have been appreciated. The game could also have really benefited from additional levels as downloadable content. That’s not really too big of a deal though as the level selection is solid as is.

    This game is just a gigantic love letter to fans of the franchise, especially those that have been sticking with it since its inception. It’s not a perfect relationship, but when they get it right they absolutely nail it. This was the first game I ever pre-ordered, because I had that much confidence in the product and I was willing to pay Sega in advance for it. Still totally worth it.    … Expand

    Alguns jogos do sonic foram bem fracassados,mas esse jogo superou minhas espectativas, até aqui em 2020 muitos consideram o melhor jogo do sonic e pra mim também

    I'm not a huge Sonic fan at all. I haven't played any Sonic game outside MegaDrive ones. I missed Adventures and all other 3d Sonic games. But this one, man, it's wonderful! Developers did a good thing taking all the best parts from other Sonic games and squeezing them into this game. For a man, like myself, who don't care about all this Sonic lore; and who just wants to play good andI'm not a huge Sonic fan at all. I haven't played any Sonic game outside MegaDrive ones. I missed Adventures and all other 3d Sonic games. But this one, man, it's wonderful! Developers did a good thing taking all the best parts from other Sonic games and squeezing them into this game. For a man, like myself, who don't care about all this Sonic lore; and who just wants to play good and elaborated levels with a banging soundtrack - it's just a real gift. Yes, here is no story and all levels are just reused old levels from other games, but I don't care. It's a very satisfying and fun game and I praise it for this. Story: Pretty much non-existent: Classic Sonic is running through Green Hill, he sees a monster, Sonic and his friends are celebrating Sonic's birthday, the same monster shows up and eats Sonic's friends, he goes to White World, start playing the game.
    Graphics: Fantastic. The Boost games always looked great, but now, they're in 3D (Unleashed wasn't in 3D for some reason, and Colors was on the Wii and HD wasn't a thing on the Wii).
    Music: I LOVE the remix, and sometimes, I just feel like listening to the Music Player.
    Gameplay: This is where Sonic Generations fall flat: Classic Sonic. I don't really like his playstyle. The Boost, though, is great. However, there were a couple of times where I was boosting for the level design and I just rammed into a wall.

The unlock-ables are amazing, the 2D and 3D styles are both loads of fun, and looked great at the time. If you have the chance, play on Series X via backwards compatibility, as frame drops can be an issue with the PS3 version, along with some bad load times. Technical issues aside, this is some ofA few glitches, but otherwise a great game that is an amazing homage to Sonic of years past. The unlock-ables are amazing, the 2D and 3D styles are both loads of fun, and looked great at the time.     Sonic generations is one of the best sonic games(not better than unleashed) but its still good the only problem is the final boss, It is so annoying.

    The graphics, the colours, the designs, the whole game looked amazing and it had the potential. Both Modern/Classic Sonic were great designed. And I liked how they kept Classic Sonic mute all the time it fits him so well.     The side missions that you finish to collect all the 3 keys are pretty fun. I only played 2 side missions, they were fun specially Blaze's one that you have to use her to calm the fire that blocks your way I had fun with that.

    The controls are acceptable and the button places are perfect for good usage.

    Sadly, The movement annoyed me so much. Modern Sonic is too fast and he needs to collect icons in the mission but he won't slow down and the icons are tiny that you need at least 4 seconds to get them right.

    Even Classic Sonic has the same issue. He is a slow braker. Even with 'Power Brake' skill he always slips a foot before a complete stop.

    The stage building/design is somewhat bad. They are so long that it may take 4-6 minutes to finish. The enemies distribution, they are everywhere and their shots always hit Sonic.

    I didn't finish the final boss. The controls were hard to use. Modern Sonic is too fast. And Classic Sonic is too slow and hard to move.

    Summation: I tried my best to like this game. I really did. And I played a lot just to prove that I am wrong and this game is good, but unfortunately I failed to.    … Expand

    The best 3D Sonic ever made. I could not have thought of a better way to celebrate Sonic's 20th anniversary. A retro-revival masterpiece!

    Ele foi lançado para comemorar os 20 anos do Sonic, e faz isso bem. Eu vi um review de um gringo falando que era o pior jogo do Sonic, sinceramente, eu acho que ele não jogou o Sonic de 2006 kk.     Two gameplay styles of pure joy, amazing set pieces, gorgeous remasters of past stages and music, please do yourself a favor and play this one. It's the best game the franchise has to offer.

    Still in 2022 this is one of the best Sonic games ever made. Highly recommend playing on PC for 60fps goodness, don't sleep on this one.

    Play with mods, you won't regret it.
    The game isn't bad like Unleashed so there's that as well to consider.

    Perhaps one of the best things we can say about Sonic Generations is that it feels complete, and that it looks absolutely stunning. 20 years offers a lot of time to draw inspiration from, and Team Sonic's determination to show off everything that Sonic has accomplished is to be applauded. As an homage it's without peer. As a game in its own right it's flawed, but it'll leave you with more smiles than frowns. [Dec 2011, p70]

    Sonic Generations marks the 20th birthday of Segas beloved mascot, and it also shows us why he deserves to be celebrated. Even though the 3D platforming part of the game carries with it most of the problems from other later installments in the franchise, the 2D levels stand up as one of the best Sonic experiences in many years. It's a two sided experience, but definitely worth a closer look.
