Where do you go from SR3? Glorified DLC. Saints Row IV is really fun and enjoyable in places, but gameplay is uneven; most plot advancing story missions are bookended by repetitive and boring activities. Superpowers open up new avenues of play but at the same time manage to make most weapons and vehicles useless.

I didnt play SR 2 but i did play SR3. I freaking loved SR3 that game is over the top, epic missions and lots of humor. And its special for how over the top it is. However, SR4 was a disapointment. I didnt expect to have a huge change, i dont want a huge change. But i didnt expect to have almost NOTHING changing at all. But i didnt expect to have almost NOTHING changing at all. Ok, there are new powers, new enemies and new weapons but I dont think that was enough for a WHOLE new game. Its more like a big DLC. (Ps. i dont really like the idea in SR4 that are about aliens.) All the main missions are fun but only very few of them. The side missions are all completly repetitive and boring. I forced myself to finish it just to get those trophies. One of the things that are really good about SR3 is that everytime you have bugs, it will auto-matically respawn you back on ground so you wont be stuck---Or really, any types of bugs. But all the stuff are opposite in SR4. There are countless glitches and freezes that i have to restart my ps3 at least 5 freaking times during playing. FIVE TIMES. I never, NEVER have to restart something in SR3 just because of the game glitches. I dont know if this happenes to other people but some time during a mission, the character will just froze and didnt give me the next objective. Which cost me having to restart the mission again. They also remove some really cool stuff too in SR4 from SR3. Lets say the music in stores which i know its not really important but it did bothered me. The music from Nobody Loves Me and Rusty Needles in SR3 is my jam but they took all of that away. SR3 was also special for its soundtrack but apparently it changed in SR4.....i am giving SR4 a six just because SR3 was such a good game. And SR4 was suppose to work harder since they knew GTA 5 came out almost with this game! Expand

This is, simply put, a FUN game.
It's not a good game, it's not a bad game. It's just fun.

    Pros:
-Massive game with tons and tons of content, ranging from side missions to challenges to story missions.
-Story is actually good, funny and offers enough content to keep you on your toes till the finale.
-The guns. Just the variety is mind blowing.
-There are enough powers to make it stand out as one of the best super hero games out there. Yes, even better than InFamous and that terrible Protoype.
    -The game is actually funny.

    Cons:
-Haf way through the game, everything becomes the same. Go here, disable these 3 things and run away. Go there, press these three things and run away. Go that way, fight these 3 waves of enemies and run away. It is terribly boring and sometimes i found myself turning it off because of pure rage.
-The game is literally broken. I found myself restarting a save file almost EVERY SINGLE MISSION because the character would get stuck in a wall or he would stop moving or the gun would stop firing etc... Sometimes it even froze and i was forced to restart my PS3.
-The graphics are terrible and unforgivable. This is 2013 for God's sake, can't we expect good graphics for once?
-There is absolutely no enemy variety. The Zins all look the same. You'd be lucky if you ran into a Zin boss every now and then.

    Verdict:
-Mediocre game. Really fun for the first 5 or so hours, but eventually it becomes repetetive. If you can ignore the glitches, lag and crashes, and if you don't mind repetetive missions, then by all means, buy it. Otherwise either rent it or forget about it.

He notices every cliché move you make and mocks you for it which I just love not to mention he is was wicked mother within the first 2 hours of the game he kills 7 billion people. It's decent but I wish the main story mode was longer. SRIV is a case of too many subquests and not enough story material. It's a pity cause while the plot is insane it's kinda funny and they could have done much more with it. Kind of like SR2 except not nearly as authentic.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Okay.

I have played only Saints Row 3 and 4 (and Gat out of Hell if that counts as an actual game and not just DLC dolled up as a full game).

I didn't love 3 as much as everyone else seems to.

The emotional inconsistencies (and I get that this is a satire of other adventure sandbox games) and falls flat on its face humor (the way the BDSM community is portrayed is sad and spooky).

    Now, on to 4.

I personally LOVED having super powers.

I loved that you could play the entire game naked, or only covered in slime, and could do a lot of unmentionable things to the 'citizens' of the simulation you live in.

There were decisions about how the thing looked (3 looks infinitely better in all ways) and the way that gameplay was handled that I didn't agree with. Is 4 a cheap ripoff of 3's world? Heck yes. But is 4 a lot of fun - even if it lacks the same brilliant set pieces that made some of 3 a hoot.

4 is a very solitary game. You mostly did things for your teammates. There are exceptions - like the one involving a couple of different versions of the same character - or when you do a really, REALLY boring drive around the simulation - that was only made tolerable by adding sing-a-longs. And when those petered out, it became obvious how empty the exercise was.

But oh the things you'll see.

I find this game strangely relaxing.

Getting worried because the US of A seems to be heading into Fascism and economic collapse (not to mention a military coup)? Then wonder around killing bad guys by the score and use your super powers to your heart's content.

It is a great way to chill.

So, initially, I didn't know how I felt about my main character essentially being a super hero trapped in the matrix. But then I thought about it...given the way that The Third ends, there really was no other way to go from there but just this sort of lunacy. As an owner of both a 360 and a PS3, I have often said that this game feels like the sequel that Crackdown (a highly underrated release title for the 360) should have had. If you can let go of your expectations and lose yourself in the insanity (which, let's be honest, is at the heart of any Saints Row experience), then what you have is a solid, fun game from start to finish!

The leveling elements and power progression really does ramp up in a big way if you do your due diligence and max out your character. You will go from a slightly overpowered Neo-type to a God-like mashup of multiple super heroes. The controls are solid, the open world environment is rich and unique with the new matrix setting, and the bevy of super-powered villains that you must face all make for a fun world to romp through. And nothing beats the first time that you face a Warden...

Take this game for what it is, and it is an excellently unique open-world experience that takes an already ridiculous Saints world to a whole new level. However, if you are simply looking for another installment of GTA-gone-wacky, then you will be disappointed.

The game starts as you, the leader of the Saints, invading a bunker in the Middle-East and disarming a nuke which just lifted off with Aerosmith playing I Don´t Wanna miss a thing in background (this was really epic), saving the citizens of United States from nuke attack, earning you the love and support of American citizens which earned you position of the President of the United States. Your mandate as a President wont last long because the world is invaded by aliens The Zin Empire.

The graphics haven't changed much from the Saints Row III game. Little changes are here and there mostly in offsimulation levels.

Now lets talk a little bit about gameplay... You are no longer have to run around the city, or drive car and etc. because you have superpowers. I must say that i was little bit sceptical in the begining, but in the end it was much funnier than i expected.

The soundtrack is excellent again. As i said in begining Aerosmith, then when you were escaping Zin mothership Hadddaway - What is love kicked in. And lot of other 80s 90s songs + Skrillex.

I must say that i was very nicely surprised by this game. Im going to give it 9/10 Rating.

The game starts as you, the leader of the Saints, invading a bunker in the Middle-East and disarming a nuke in mid-flight, saving the US from possible nuke attack, earning you the love to the US citizens and being voted to become the President of the United States. You're reign as President wont last long as the world is invated by aliens called "The Zin" and eventually destroyed. After the massacre you find yourself saved by Kinzie Kensington from 1950's dream world and set in a space ship hidden from Zin and as the last remnants of the civilized world. From the space ship you invade the play world of Zin which modeled after SR3 version of Steelport, kinda like in the Matrix universe. Twist this time is that Kinzie has unlocked super abilities for the player to use in the Zin world of Steelport, coming in from of super jumping or running and you need to rescue back you're Saints partners and defeat the Zin.

The graphics haven't changed much from the previous game. Little changes here and there are seen, Zin posters and markingson walls, glitches have been added as gameplay for example tiles of a wall move or citizens of the Zin world could change randomly their outlook. Most interesting is the aspects of missions in different computer worlds, at one mission to rescue Johnny Gat and bring him back alive you have to enter his mind in a 2D sidescrolling fightning game which is one my favourite parts of the game.

So yes gameplay has you, instead of running and stealing cars, jumping on roof tops and speed running through traffic, being the little god of the Zin world and as the story moves on Kinzie unlocks abilities for you that enables you to throw objects with your mind, shoot ice/fireballs, stomp the ground creating quakes and turn you into fire/ice person that when you run by a enemy or person, he sets on fire. By the way speed running makes stealing cars pointless which Deep Silver noticed by giving you a way to listen to the game music at any point, unless you're back in the space ship aka real world.

The soundtrack is excellent as usual and suits the game really well. Clearly Deep Silver wanted to make this game a homage to older SR games using Aerosmiths "I don't wanna miss a thing" song as a start and end song. Other tracks include classics form 1980's and 90's to new bass bumping Skillrex style tracks and each track has a reason to bring atmosphere to every mission.

Hard for to join with the sayings that this is just DLC sold in full price, sure it's the same Stillwater but the game has content and a lot of it. With every mission giving different new places to visit in, basically meaning you dont spent much time in Stillwater other than joining mission or killing aliens. Story brings you back to earlier Saints Row days with sidemissions giving samples of history behind each Saints character upon to the end giving a plot twist that is a must see for each Saints Row familiar player.

Personally I really enjoyed the game, it's an excellent combination of action and fun, comedy and satirical drama. Also it gave a feeling of a nice closure for Saints Row series, with missions going through the history of the Saints and showing the appreciation toward the fans of the series with the nice twist at the end of the game.

I did not know the setting and upgrades your character would get. I was blown away by the plot. Its funny. I love the voice acting also. The roleplaying dialogue aspect could have been a bigger thing, but its okay since its basically an action game like GTA.

This game just has everything I loved from different games and movies: NFS car customization, RPG character creators, buying acessories like SSX3, fun vehicles like Time Splitters / GTA, insane cyberpunk plot and environment, retro & new music, silly kung fu and shooting combat, good graphics for the system. Lots of challenges to keep you moving. Instead of holding you back, the game gives you insane abilities within the first hour.

I haven't had this much fun playing a game since Time Splitters: Future perfect. I know this isn't directly comparable to that game, but it gives me the same vibe.

The gameplay isn't too complicated. I know they are basically milk runs sometimes, where you drive a car, or shoot a bunch of enemies, but I don't mind. I did like some of the "bosses."

The game is solid. Granted a lot of stuff is recycled, graphics are subpar, and the game really feels like a string of sidequests, but even with that said the game is still fun. The humor is still there and the gameplay is the same addictive gameplay from the previous iterations.

But gradually, the laughter stopped. I managed to scrape my way through about 6 of the main campaign missions. Once I looked past the humor, I began to see the true nature of this game. It's a mess, a mess that is uncomfortable to play. And gradually becomes more uncomfortable as you go. For example, upgrading your jump ability to max makes it cumbersome to jump up small buildings because a slight tap will send you way up into the sky. This part in particular isn't a deal breaker, but little things like this coupled with an inconsistent and borderline unplayable frame rate combine to make a game that looks like fun to play, but really isn't. I recommend avoiding this game on the PS3, if you must get it, the PC version is apparently a lot better.

Hell NO. This can't be called Saint's Row IV. It could be called Saint's Row The Third: Alien Expansion pack. And it should cost around 10 euors, NOT 60! This is not a new game, is just an heavy modified version of SRIII with aliens! Missions are boring, repetitive, the story is nice and the story missions are good, but i can't believe they sold this game as a new Saint's Row. Very disappointed.

This was my very first time playing Saints Row. The only thing good about this game is the in game music. The graphics are terrible. Anything 2 feet past your character looks like a blurred mess which made your in game immersion terrible. But the frames per second is what makes the game almost unplayable. Any action on the screen and your fps dips to 10-15.

A highly enjoyable romp into an hilarious mash-up of nearly every conceivable game genre. Heavily spoofing sci-fi films and pop-culture along the way Volition have essentially created the 'Scary Movie' of video games and turned up the insane to eleven.
It was a little buggy (I played on the PS3) and the controls sometimes made the game frustrating.

Let's be honest, this game is yet another wash by the publisher "Deep Silver", a house that does little more than invest in failing game titles breathing lackluster life into them and pumping them full of hype long enough to gather the attention of the masses for some quick cash. The company purchase of this title is the single and only reason it's a "full priced game" and not an expansion to the 'recently' released previous installment.

That all said, the game isn't "bad", it's just not good enough for a full priced game. If you're a professional reviewer with a free copy, a higher rating might be appropriate. If you're paying for the game yourself, you will want to deeply consider waiting until customer reviews result the the more than obvious future for this game in the bargain bin. Especially if you already own Prototype 2 which this game mechanically ripps off on almost every level.

Ultimately, the score is cut in half due to the fact that it's a "full priced release" rather than a "DLC". Then using a scale of 1-5 the game itself would rest at a mediocre copy of other titles, combine into one immature blast'em game with zero skill or challenge required. a score of 2 for an "alright" waste of time.

Horrible story. Lackluster "new design" that copies almost everything from the previous title and/or other games you probably already own. Should have been DLC of SRthe3rd.

I agree with the person who said if you've played Saints Row the Third, then this is a huge step down an disappointment. What I expected was something even better, not spending time in a virtual reality within a game. It's a video game-it shouldn't be a video game within a video game. It is boring and just not enjoyable, even if you don't compare it to the previous title. Would not recommend.

Honestly there's a lot of fun things about it, mostly the great characters and crazy activities. But the superpowers never feel as good as they should be, and a lot of the time the whole game just feels like it should have just been an expansion to Saints Row 3. By this it is also the best Matrix game and superpowers simulator atop of even more hilarious ideas (The good kind). The story is set an unspecified time after the events of the third game. After a heroic act that boost his popularity to stellar levels the leader of the Saints ends up winning the election becoming president of the USA (This is in hindsight less crazy than back then and there are many real life celebrities who would win like as prime example Oprah Winfrey). Now the Saints are at the top of the world but the world is not the limit as another new enemy appears to challenge the Saints and mankind. I am vague here to avoid spoilers but will say even the picture on the game box should spoil this. The story archives peak craziness and I hardly find even B movies that are this (good kind!) of crazy, silly, hilarious, funny and entertaining. It uses so many ideas from B movies and classic science fiction like Matrix, They Live, Terminator, Star Trek or Star Wars to name a few. I must warn you that this kind of story can be annoying too for some even to absolute garbage level. For me it is so crazy entertaining that it washed away all my criticism (storywise). Bonus: The ending is fantastic as they show all the character abuse their new playtoy ;-).Gameplay: It is again taking over neighborhood after neighborhood. You do this via missions, activities and hacking stores. The activities are great with a lot of different mayhem's, Professors Genki’s Mind over Murder, Fraud and Fight club to name a few. There is a sub class called target where you have to take out enemies or destroy targets. What makes this most rememberable are the unlockable powers and abilities. During the game you start to unlock skills that change the gameplay. You have so many options to utterly play and destroy your enemies in stylish ways. Those can also be upgraded by collecting clusters in the game-world. It ends not there as there are crazy vehicles and the best asset of weapons in all Saints Row games. For example the Dubstep Gun is as awesome, silly and stylish as it can get. To upgrade your character you need experience points to unlock the upgrades and money to buy them. These again range from simple boost like more health to more / better gang followers up to helping gameplay additions (Not much change compared to the third game). In the end the gameplay is so much improved by everything. Alone using or mixing all skills to devastate the enemies is so much fun. In addition with the B-movie charm, references, dark humor and quirky characters it is a crazy masterpiece of endless fun. I am a fan of the characters since the previous games and so I am quite satisfied with the return of a few familiar faces. I don't go into details here to avoid spoilers. Lets say I still have a smile on my face writing this as a lot of funny memories come back. For the enemies you got Zinyak who is such a nice stereotypical villain with some twists. I like him and the huge variety of enemies. While the game is a stellar experience there are some negatives. Firstly they recycled a lot and I mean A LOT in capital letters. There were financial troubles for THQ who had bought the developer and this had impacts on the game. There are a few bugs but I had no gamebreaking once. Other said there are a few just for information but I was either lucky or these are hyperbolic (Or both?). Graphically the game was a bit outdated back then to say it nicely. Lastly a lot of the gameplay will never be used. For example I never used a car again in the game after unlocking a certain skill (or any other vehicle outside activities or just testing the more awesome picks). Also it is hard to go back to the prequel as I missed all the stuff but this is not a complaint I can put on the game or lower the rating. Overall this is craziness incarnated and so much entertaining. The hilarious ideas and countless homages / parodies in combination with the gameplay make an unforgettable experience. I give a 9/10 despite its flaws and must make a warning that this is not for everyone. Expand
