The game is incredibly hard at first, but it rewards perseverance. Even with the old school design, Rogue Legacy is filled with a sense of discovery that helps make it so great. This is something that I will be playing for a long time, and you should too – it is that damn good.

Rogue Legacy was awesome on PC and it still rocks on the PlayStation consoles. The PS Vita version of the game has small frame rate issues, but the powerful handheld is the best platform for a game like this. Oh! And the Cross-Buy and Cross-Save features are simply perfect.

You enjoy it while you are on it, but then feel sh*tty afterwards because you didn't really accomplish a lot. Then you'll do it again later. It's kinda got a little Dark Souls to it in it's high volume of death and risk/reward/leveling set-up. Overall a good game, but not as good as the time you will sink into it warrants. Like I said, it's a bit cracky. I like these indie games, but for the love of Christ, would it kill these people to make better graphics? I'm not going to go out and buy a $400 machine to play stuff that looks like sh*t that came out a year after the troops came back from 'Nam. Overall 8 with a minus 1 for graphics. So a 7 will do it I reckon. Full Review »

Rogue Legacy is a 2D platformer hack'n'slash with a number of quirks to break the formula. These include:

-It's tough. No, not Demon's Souls tough, but TOUGH!!
-Every time you start out, unless you choose to nail the level down, the castle changes layout.
-Every time you die, your next trek will be with a character of you predecessor's bloodline, but they might have an 'ability' - this can be anything, from short-sightedness, colour-blindness, or even be stuck in an upside-down world!!
-A trade-up and treasure collection system that affects your game immeasurably, to the point where it will invoke strategies in order to change the game even more!!

These features (most importantly the difficulty) would be nothing if it were not for the fact that this game has pitch-perfect controls and rarely cheats the player - if anything, the intense challenge just pushes the player even more!!

This seems to be a common saying these days, but it is true here - if you really rate yourself as a gamer, you should try this as soon as possible. You may not warm to it immediately - but it will consume you.
