I only started playing yesterday and so far it great. Not a great leap in FPS games but it seems pretty decent so far. If you played the first two resistance games, it will take you some time before you get used to not regenerating your health, and the AI is abit more amped so they don't just stand there and let you hit them. Im enjoying it so far, will update the review later

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have to admit im a fan of the series, loved the first 1. 2nd one was okay, but this was Great!!!. They nailed it on the spot with this one. Im glad the Weapon Wheel was brought back. even though the game was kinda short i still got a good experience from it. also at the After Capelli closed the wormhole from stopping the world from freezing and from keeping the Pure Chimera form entering through the wormhole. After capelli closed it there were still many chimera left on the planet. The chimera were dealt a blow but was not beaten. this leads speculation to a resistance 4 maybe?? but overall all great game. Expand

One of the best FPS (and general) game experience ever! After playing R3 in 3D, all the hard earned cash I had spent on my new TV seemed completely worth it. I could talk for hours about how great R3 is but instead I will just urge you to play it! the only minor fault is that the amazing water effect from R2 has disappeared with a luck luster one :s.

Oh wow. An FPS game that is actually completely different from other FPS games today. Comparing with most shooters, it does not have regenerating health, you can carry a LOT of weapons and behind the grim atmostphere and story, there is a bit of silliness whenever fighting chimera. Just to point out, Resistance 3 is the first Resistance game I have played but the game did a good job of briefing me the story from what happened in the first two game so I pretty much have no need of playing them really. From what I can tell, some alien virus has landed on earth and turned humans into alien mecha things. From my playthrough, on how the game tells the story seriously, it feels like a B movie of some sort. Moving on to the gameplay, it's like a throw back to Serious Sam and Doom with crazy weapons at your disposal and over the top gun fights with monsters and It has been a while since I had fun with a shooter. I really enjoyed this game and the multiplayer is fun too, with all those weapons I always assume that it would be. Expand

Underwhelming for a franchise. Outdated in this day of filmic FPS games. Not the worst game of the year, but a fairly limp way to end the Trilogy. Graphics left much to the imagination.

I dont know what it was about the first title but neither of the followups could match them. I do admit this one is much better than the second one and that it is still fun as a FPS fan but dont expect to go to bed thinking about the next time your going to get to play. Graphics were average as well as the story. Epicness does not resonate within this game. I don't care what anyone says. This is the best Resistance so far. The online is not a cluster **** like the previous games and they took out over powered weapons like the Wraith from R2. I'll admit, I do miss the co-op, but I still Love this game.

Resistance 3 is a thrill ride from start to finish and doesnt require you to play the first 2 games to understand it (because I didn't play them like I had stated before.) On top of that all of the weapons are interesting, the story is dark and gritty (just how I like my shooters,) and the characters (while they don't go into a lot of detail about them) we're interesting and likable. The reasonably long campaign didnt feel like a burdon as my friend and I played for several hours and lost track of time. The only downside is that there are about 7 parts in the game where they toss you in pitch black with a very dim flashlight which makes it hard to find your way around even with the brightness turned all the way up. I have not tried the multiplayer but I do know the cool mode is gone but who knows, maybe they will release it as dlc with even more than before. All in all a good, fun ride. Expand

Fanboys are raging about the game not doing anything outside the box but what about the weapon wheel and health system? Resistance 3 is probably the only FPS of this generation where you can carry more than 3 guns and it doesn't has the auto-regeneration health that Halo made so popular back in the day. The truth is that Resistance 3 packs a great story even thought the ending was a disappointment. The gameplay is oldchool (I bet most of you started playing the genre with Halo so I don't think you'll know what I mean by "oldschool") but feels new and it's responsive. Graphics are pretty good but the animations are a bit stiff. The multiplayer is no Call of Duty but can be enjoyable for quite a while.

Just a simple advice: before buying this game ask yourself witch of the previous Resistance games You like best: if the first one - go and buy the R3 - it's your game! If You a fan of the R2 - rent the R3 for the beginning. I was a big fun of the RFOM, and I like what the Insomniac did in R3: The strongest aspects of SP are:
    1. Guns!
    2. Atmosphere: environment, music, lighting effects (a huge step from R2m that one was really plain and flat in lighting aspect). And now You really feel the dread and doom.. It's not a fun arcade anymore (R1 and R2 were), now it's a battle for surviving.. 3. Graphics - I don't understand why people are explaining about gfx.. I find it really great: as I already mentioned, lighting is great, special effects (smoke, particles, explosions, water) are nice to watch. And just look what the level od detail is! So many objects scattered around in devastating buildings and streets. Speaking about multiplayer it's fun to play - it reminds me the good times I was hooked to RFOM.. of course it's not perfect - everything has it's flaws...I do lack the fluidity and speed the RFOM had or the COD titles have. I mean the framerate is lower but You get used to it... Probably I played to much Black Ops - this title has a high framerate, but wait....COD graphics are crap, and the resolution is lower. Overall I would give SP 10 and MP 9. Overall 10. Great game. Thank, You Insomniac!
P.S. Forgot to mention: can't get the motion controls to start working. Especially navigation controller.. But as soon as it doesn't really matter for me it has no impact on my score and I believe the will fix it with next patch.

Like its predecessors, R3 paints an absorbing and beautifully horrific world.

I admit to being disappointed in the online component, after R2's delightful 8x coop and chaotic pvp. Not every game should be MAG with its 128v128, but R2 hit a good note in its medium-large matches.

Now when is an FPS going to offer matchmaking with a serious effort at match balance?

So I'm sitting there thinking that I could deal with a crappy multi-player game as long as the co-op is good.......so I go to play some co-op and guess what?....theres no matchmaking for co-op or even a server browser, so if none of your friends are playing the game, then you can't play co-op. For the life of me I can't understand why they would go from such a fun, smooth and accessible experience in Resistance 2, to a mess like this in Resistance 3. I'm incredibly disappointed with this game. Now since i really liked the single player campaign I gave this game a 6/10, but what they did to the multiplayer aspect of the game is inexcusable. I've seen some user reviews of people saying that Metacritic is being trolled by 360 fans, but the truth of the matter is that if you are a true fan of this series, then you should not be afraid to tell Insomniac about what your true feelings are towards this game. I was a massive fan of all Socom games on PS2, and this year Zipper released Socom 4 which was an abomination to the Socom series, and yet there were people trying to defend the game even though Zipper took everything out of the game that makes Socom unique to everything else out there. R3 includes the best bits of R1 and R2 plus an improved storyline. The action, gameplay and graphics are pretty much flawless. As I'm not into multiplayer I can't say anything about that part, but the single player campaign is some of the greatest fun I've had on my PS3 this year.

Personally I think concise campaigns do a better job than longer campaigns overall. Furthermore, I feel the length of the campaign fitted well within the structure and style of the gameplay. It's a decent FPS experience. It has no innovation or creativity but it keeps up to the par with all the standards of a normal FPS experience. It's not a blockbuster ,but still competent enough to warrant a buy. The multiplayer mimics alot of Call of Duty gameplay, but maintains just enough difference to keep you interested. The graphics are nice although the colours are stupidly dark and the texture contrast makes the game hard to read, the designs are neat and tidy and the feeling of fighnting in a lost war is still overwhelming. As far as the action goes, it seems to me like all the truly epic moments are only there for you to watch and happen as a part of scenery again in contrast to R2, I'm really sad to see the series I love so much in this state. As it is R3 is more of a PSN or Platinum material... Let me put it this way I was expecting competition to Uncharted 3 in FPS form, I got... hmmmm It's a bit like Project Snowblind vs the original Deus Ex. Now one last remark, as far as I rember from various interviews most of these changes have been made to accomodate R1 fans who didn't like R2, but I don't see too many of those anymore. Goes to show devs should focus on designing not on listening to whinging kids on the internet. The campaign side of the game is solid but not particularly innovating. If the game were that alone I would rate this a solid 7 and maybe even an 8... but throw in the complete mess of multiplayer and I can't help but rate that portion as a 1 or even a big fat ZERO. As sad as it may be in the FPS world today multiplayer is the big determining factor for replayability but this just seemed like 2 steps back from R2. If you feel like you can just jump right in and play the multiplayer you are in for a shock. Get ready to see beautiful scenery and bright flashes of light, color, and skills that can blow your mind and probably confuse you until you can create your custom load out with the video demos of what each thing does. Insomniac couldn't be bothered to print the descriptions of each skill in the manual so for the first few levels you'll be completely lost on what each thing does unless you research it online or watch the demos. Unfortunately, the pretty scenery doesnt get you anywhere when the gameplay is so lacking. The main issue I find is that the lag is insane. To make this worse it's not network lag, it's graphical lag. The PS3 just simply cannot handle all the flashes and effects when 3 or more players are congregated in close proximity. You can forget about getting a bead on someone's head while aiming down the sights with anything but the sniper rifle due to the jerky movements and lost frames when your PS3 is chugging along trying to put everything in it's proper place. You think that person you've unloaded your entire carbine clip into is standing in front of you but really they've already one shotted you from the side by an atomizer or shotgun.

That brings up the second major issue. There is VERY little skill involved with the gameplay and has more to do with the dedication of time getting past that low level grind so you can get weapons that will utterly demolish people. I can't even count the number of times I have died without understanding how it happened. I will see and hear no gunfire, receive no warning, and be immediately dead due to either a glitch or a skill/weapon that gives an enormous advantage over lower level players. Can you imagine sitting there with a weapon that can take up to 30 shots to kill someone versus another player that is invisible, undetectable by radar, shielded, and is carrying multiple one shot kill weapons or can see you and fire through walls? All this said the game has potential to be fixed through updates. Its impressive to look at and with a little tweak in balancing my review could be seriously re-evaluated. In doing research online a lot of the people that played the beta and other pre-finalized versions stated the frame rate issues were not nearly as bad but still present.

Pros - Beautiful to look at.
    Creative weaponry and skills.
    Good, Solid story.

Cons - Graphical lag via lost frames.
No explanation of multiplayer skills from the beginning.
    Unbalanced weaponry and skills.
