A very good game with great atmosphere and a lot of weapons to use in combat . The story is good but also very classic but it is a game to have if you have got a playstation move with a sharp shooter ! It's very fun to use all this weapons that way in the game !

Like its predecessors, R3 paints an absorbing and beautifully horrific world.

I admit to being disappointed in the online component, after R2's delightful 8x coop and chaotic pvp. Not every game should be MAG with its 128v128, but R2 hit a good note in its medium-large matches.

Now when is an FPS going to offer matchmaking with a serious effort at match balance?

I have only played the unique coop mode in r2 and r3, having said that I don't know whether the stories were ever good but what I do know is that resistance 3 is a great game...I have been a long ratchet and clank fan and when I learned you could level up your weapons by using them I fell in love. Resistance 3 is a thrill ride from start to finish and doesnt require you to play the first 2 games to understand it (because I didn't play them like I had stated before.) On top of that all of the weapons are interesting, the story is dark and gritty (just how I like my shooters,) and the characters (while they don't go into a lot of detail about them) we're interesting and likable. The reasonably long campaign didnt feel like a burdon as my friend and I played for several hours and lost track of time. The only downside is that there are about 7 parts in the game where they toss you in pitch black with a very dim flashlight which makes it hard to find your way around even with the brightness turned all the way up. I have not tried the multiplayer but I do know the cool mode is gone but who knows, maybe they will release it as dlc with even more than before. All in all a good, fun ride. Expand

Resistance 3 is the best game of the series. With killer graphics, better general difficulty and a revamped weapons system this is one of the best AAA titles this year and well worth the price tag. The game-play is a major improvement over the last 2 games and the boss fights are very fun and involved in contrast to the last two resistance games as well. Enemies are still pretty much the same with improvements to Ai and some new additions. The new weapons leveling system and selector wheel is a great improvement and the ability to keep using your favourite weapons throughout the game against stronger and stronger enemies is a plus. The story is pretty good and interesting albeit slightly on the slow side. This game is well worth full price new even for just the campaign, the multi-player and co-op are just a bonus. Expand

The lack of 60 player matches really makes it seem more like a half-baked attempt than an innovative multi-player experience. Yes, there are some new features, but it doesn't make an impact on me as much as Resistance 2's multi-player did. Resistance 3 is much improved over resistance 2, and all the guns are tons of fun to use. Even if characters aren't very interesting, the battles are great, the cutscenes looks good, and the weapons are very unique. Other than the pretty good and well paced campaign, the multiplayer can be very fun once you start unlocking guns and more equipment. Recommended if you love FPS games.

They took out the weapon damage modifier where it now feels like I'm playing halo. Now to the 3rd of the series. For starters i will come out and say its the most well rounded game of the series. The single player was a good way to end the series and the multiplayer was still not as good as the first, but an improvement from the 2nd. The series conclusion left me hanging off the edge of my seat while playing the final level and throughout the entire story. There are some amazing cut scenes which is a little new to the other games for there weren't too many that brought emotion out of me like this game The different types of enemies keep you interested in the game as well as the many different types of weapons. Unlike Call of Duty where your just killing soldiers in Resistance you have different types of soldiers where you have to change your strategy in order to have a better chance of killing the chimera. The graphics of the game are as good as they have been although there wasn't any wow moments like the moment of San Francisco in R2. Now to the multiplayer, although i was upset its ranged away from the multiplayer in the first resistance, i will settle on this multiplayer. For starters it takes less time to kill enemies which i think is a much better approach, Insomniac decided to keep the humans vs. the chimera like in R2 which i do not mind but i also do wish that there was a custom game option where you could do humans vs humans and change the damage like in Resistance Fall of Man. But in conclusion, the game is a good game to end the fabulous series which was one of the most entertaining ps3 exclusives along with uncharted, infamous, and god of war. I suggest this game to anyone who has played the previous games of this great series. Expand

This game is great, it tries not to be like the average modern FPS. The atmosphere is amazing and the 1st third of the campaign is almost completely grey. The multiplayer however, is watered down from resistance 2. At a technical point the game's graphics are good but are not as good as games like Halo or Killzone. The story is thrilling and the 3D works well. Overall 8.3/10 Great

Resistance 3 tells the story after Resistance 2 you play as Joseph through what could and should have been an amazing story but sadly it just falls flat as a recycle of the story of the first game, clocking in about 7 to 8 hours resistance story is dull and boring it's not going to be the reason why would you want to keep playing the game. Each character just suffers from being extremely unlikable this is because the game tries too hard for the player to feel emotionally attach to the main character and the search for his family but sadly the general dialog of the game is just lazy everything just seems to be very forced and some cheesy one liners can definitely get you out of the story.
Aside from that the gameplay of Resistance 3 is excellent giving back the player the old gameplay mechanics from resistance 1 only way more tweaked than ever.
You can carry an arsenal of weapons each one of them feeling extremely different from the last and really unique for different enemy encounters, every gun just feels great when you're using it.
Of course the game can definitely have his negative parts by having tedious parts when you have to move a lever to open certain door, or passage way but they never have a reason more than give you the illusion that the game has variety in terms of gameplay, it can get really frustrating not to find a lever that opens up a passage way so your buddy can get into the exact same room with you only to find out he could had get to that room himself just by following you.
There are other times where the atmosphere of the game is broken by the own game, there were times where i would be in a really stretch dark room filled with Chimeran eggs, this could be a perfect scenario for suspense or horror if they add a couple of those eggs hatching and realeasing bizarre Chimeran creatures form them, but instead they give you one of the most powerful guns in the game (the Atomizer) and wait for you until you get out of that scenario to a wide open bright warehouse where they finally decide to start spawning the bizarre creatures, it just feels like a waste of time.
Even then the voice acting in the game is another thing that doesn't impress, most of the background characters are going to have barely decent voice acting wich can drew you off the experience just by how laughable the combination of really bad dialog with decent voice acting can be.

The verdict for me is an eight out of ten
the gameplay is incredible if i had to rate the game based off only that i would probably rate the game almost a 10 but sadly the full package gets affected by the awful dialog, the boring non interesting story
and the sad but not terrible voice acting aside from that solid graphics and incredible gameplay manage to save Resistance 3 from being as dull and boring as his predecesor.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am so happy that they toke the coop in the campaign mode back. And i wanted so bad to get the creepy atmospher back. But infortunatly they have made this game in to a completly action shooter. But i can't help my self from saying that it is a god damn good game. They made the story line much better. And damn it is fun to play with friends. They have set the difficulty a lot higher. So it will be more difficult to finish. It has some awesome new guns that you will have a lot of fun with. They kept the boss fights in the game from the second game but there is nearly not any of them anymore which is a bit annoying if you ask me. So they kept a lot of the mechanics from the first game and not that much from the second game. Not that strange after a lot of people hated on the game. But i think that the second game had a lot of idears that would fit this game very well. But all in all this game is great. And probably the best game in the series. Expand

-Some of the weapons offer little
    - Poor partner A.I
-Occasional glitches, but nothing to make you turn the game off

In short I would recommend the game, to anyone. I mean I loved the game, yet I personally find FPS’s a bit repetitive. I would also suggest playing the game over in normal, them if you want to replay the campaign play it in hard mode, you can change the difficulty at any time so don’t worry about it being too difficult/too easy.

    Full Review
In my opinion the greatest thing about the game is the combat. This is a great balance between horror and action, and the game never lets you forget it. This fine balance is achieved largely due to the fact that most of the time, you fight alone and unlike other FPS at no point can you rely on any NPC (apart from towards the end). This balance is further enhanced through the sheer variety of enemies, as you fight Chimeras (which act like alien human with weapons), Ferals (with zombie like creatures enhancing horror elements in the game) and even Humans at one point. Each variety of enemies has a unique look and fighting style. My favourite enemy is the Window Maker which acts like a massive armoured spider. This variety of enemies is made clear towards the end of the game when the Feral and Chimeras clash and you (Joseph) find yourself in the fight. The combat is enhanced by the variety of weapons (12 in total) with my favourite being the Rossmore (shotgun). Each weapon improves from level one to three, with great improvements, e.g. the Rossmore eventually fires fire rounds that deal extra damage.

The next great thing about the game is the level design. Each chapter offers a unique setting, as you find yourself fighting in a prison, city scape, sewers etc. Such designs are enhanced by the constant feeling of being alone in an unwinnable fight, mainly towards the later stages of the game. My favourite chapter is chapter 17 in particular the fight with a Window Maker when you have to alternate between fighting in a subway against the Chimeras or on the surface fighting a dominating Window Maker. Also within new chapters come new weapons which help to mix combat up, e.g. the first time you unlock the Wildfire (rocket launcher) you have to use it to destroy an Chimera aircraft. What is also great about the level design is that the very nature of them in combination with the enemies in the levels, and limited ammunition, forces you to use all the different enemies enhancing the sense of desperation.

With regards to the story I personally liked it. You play as Joseph Capelli a disgraced army soldier who lives with his wife Susan and kid Jack. However through a series of events he his forced to leave them and travel to New York City to try and defeat the Chimera. While the core of the story is very predictable as it is essential a journey, I liked the large amount twists in the story in particular (spoiler) when Dr.Malikov is brutally murdered by Mick Cutler, leader of the Wardens (cannibal humans) who them takes you to his prison. However the predictable does reduce the interesting nature of the story. Furthermore the story is rather short and some of the twists feel more like padding e.g. the meeting of a religious group who want you to fight a creature they call “Satan”. Henceforth the story is not really great.

However the game falls flat in a few areas. The most annoying is how partner A.I is largely poor and they offer very little aid in combat. However this isn’t too bad because you fight mostly on your own. While the enemy A.I is mostly good the use of enemy’s suicidal charging can get a bit repetitive.

The next annoying thing is the glitches. They are some problems with lip syncing in the cut scenes at some points. There is also an annoying effect that when NPC are doing something that requires you to protect them, they will sometimes stop and just wonder about. That said these glitches/bugs are rare and something I can’t be too critical about.

The final criticism of the game is how the weapons aren’t as unique as they should be. I mean one of them is a sledgehammer you will use only in a small section of the game. Furthermore the Marksmen, Bullseye and M5A2, feeling very similar as they just machine guns. Nevertheless weapons like the HE.44 Magnum and the 4 different types of grenades more than make up for this slight mess up.

Resistance moves to a post-apocalyptic setting where you are at war not only with the Chimera, but also the dregs of humanity. It can sometimes feel like an inferior knock off of Half Life 2, but the action packed gameplay, nice atmospheric graphics and evolving weapons system make for another entertaining FPS.

If you played the first two resistance games, it will take you some time before you get used to not regenerating your health, and the AI is abit more amped so they don't just stand there and let you hit them. My purchase of R2 was warranted by only one thing: the 8-player online coop mode. This is the first game to ever get me into online gaming, and only 2 other games have done so since. I was hooked to this. It could've used some improvements for sure, especially support of further downloadable content - namely more levels and missions - but overall it was fantastic. Insomniac had something incredible here. When I heard they weren't including the 8-player coop in R3 I was blown away and confused. The only reason I see for this is laziness. I think Insomniac was ready to be done making exclusives instead of making more money by going multiplat. I think they just wanted to put a sufficient - rather than excellent - effort into this game just to get done with it and move on. Wanting to make more money is somewhat understandable though.

Anyways, I tried to stay positive toward the game during the pre-release phase despite the exclusion of the 8-player coop, and it worked bc I was pumped for this game. Campaigns are what I live for usually anyways. I missed the campaign quality from R:FoM, and from the sound of it R3 was gonna deliver the campaign R2 failed to do. I just played R3 last night, and I must say I'm pretty darn disappointed. The story was fairly boring for the most part; was unbelievable often (spoiler alert - A little tugboat can take 20 rockets from a goliath? Really??); the enemy AI was terrible and scripted; the human AI was just terrible (spoiler-the part where you meet up with the resistance group that has the chopper, and you run into one of the ape enemies...as I ran around for 10 minutes evading ape guy, my "allies" stood in the corner, failing to fire a single bullet, let alone actually move. At one point when I was forced in their direction, I couldn't help but notice that they were all facing the wall. Apparently facing a wall makes you invisible to ape enemies, bc he certainly paid zero attention to anyone but me. Should've tried the wall approach); running feels like a brisk walk; melee is neither fluid nor fast to give you that great feeling of a spray-with-bullets-then-finish-off-with-sweet-melee-to-the-face combination; animations are awful at times (spoiler-the arena when you have the hammer to defend yourself...great example of terrible enemy AI, but also bad animations. Each time you hit an enemy with your hammer it's like some sort of joke how their bodies react. Pinball anyone?); grenade throwing is odd and it seems slow-motion is turned on each time you toss one; and the last thing I can think of is the sound - sound either didn't occur or was delayed many, many times when it was supposed to (example: major explosion without the occurrence of explosion sounds), making for majorly anticlimactic moments (maybe it was my ps3 though?). The only thing I found myself truly enjoying about R3 was the shooting and the ability to upgrade your weapons. I liked this added feature a lot, and it was the only thing that kept me playing.

Anyways, my goal isn't to bash R3 or Insomniac. Im incredibly disappointed though bc I wanted so badly to have the excellence of R:FoM's campaign (and R2's 8-player coop) continued and expanded upon. It killed me when I saw how poor R3 was selling (preorders), but after playing it I don't blame ps3 owners for not lining up at the door to purchase it. There's just not really much to tempt anyone to buy R3 over any other game. I love you Insomniac, so please redeem yourself by going 110% on all of your games in the future. And if you want sales, load your game with content rather than cutting back on it.

As a standalone game I would give R3 a 7.5. When comparing it to my expectations due to my love for the series, I would give it between a 5-6.5. I'll be nice and give it a 7.

As much an improvement over R2 as R2 was over R1, a pleasure to play and much, much better than its "only on PlayStation" contemporary (Killzone). Weapons and enemies are imaginative and varied (as well as familiar) and a pleasure to encounter, even the huge (awesome) boss creatures. Setting and art style are unique and detailed. Great stuff all around.

A very solid shooter but the generic online really made it a step down from the previous ones in the series. Still an interesting story which shows that this series still has potential to continue, each game feels completely different from the last which should stop it getting stale.

Honestly, I'v never been really impressed by the Resistance series that much. I've always thought of them as just good games. Nothing amazing, or great. It just could be told so much better. Anyways, putting all of that aside. Resistance 3 does stand out to be the best Resistance game yet. With the great looking new HD graphics, Resistance has never looked better. Gameplay also feels improved and much smoother. The story did have more emotion to it, which is good. It's nice to actually want to feel something for these characters.

Although campaign is my strong point in any game, the multiplayer is pretty much as good as it gets. Fans may be disappointed that the amount of players in a match have lowered from 60 to 16 players, but it's still the same fun experience.

So all around, Resistance 3 is a good game, but does not stand out to many of the other great titles this year. Don't see it being nominated for any "Game of the Year" awards. However, this is just my opinion.

Resistance 2 is just an average game. I don't know why critics and fans say is soooo great. Of course, it looks nice and ending is cool but single player campaign is extremely repetitive. Story is interesting but AI is still a joke. Not challenging at all. MP is great though. Buy it second hand or rent it.

The first thing that will stand out in Resistance 3 is how remarkably short the game is compared to other games in the FPS genre. It's a decent FPS experience. It has no innovation or creativity but it keeps up to the par with all the standards of a normal FPS experience. It's not a blockbuster ,but still competent enough to warrant a buy. The multiplayer mimics alot of Call of Duty gameplay, but maintains just enough difference to keep you interested. Whether the multiplayer will sustain players like COW is yet to be determined. Like I said its a decent shooter without any innovation. Expand

First gripe is that the cinematics don't look very good in stereo 3d. Either they are conversions . . . or the convergence is set so low that everything is just flat. Also the frame-rate is really low with 3d enabled. It doesn't feel like it ever really hits 30fps, and it's usually more like 15. The resolution is also extremely low, 500 lines at the most. Resistance also suffers from some pretty terrible ghosting, which I don't think is due to my monitor (it plays pc 3d games with no ghosting whatsoever). It may be due to the low frame-rate not quite lining up with the 3d glasses. Finally, most of the iron-site cursors are not in 3d, making it difficult to aim while zoomed.

There are some good things to say about the 3d as well :) There are no rendering errors (aside from the ghosting) and the cursor floats out in front of you as it should. Also, the 3d effect is nice and strong once you max it out in the menu. Resistance also sports a really nice convergence trick. As you walk toward objects in a 3dVision game, you often get really horrific errors like objects that are attempting to render themselves inside your head or behind you. Also, you get objects that will render on top of or inside of one another. This really hurts the eyes. Resistance solves this issue by subtly altering the convergence of the 3d effect, so as you walk toward something it never actually pops out of the screen or touches your gun. This may sound like kind of a bummer, but in practice it really reduces eye strain.

As a shooter, Resistance is above average, but only just. The guns are the real shinning star of the game, but the low framerates leave the encounters feeling a little squishy for my tastes. Pacing is excellent, very reminiscent of Half-Life 2. Art and design are both fantastic; however, the story and acting fall flat. It has my recommendation, provided you don't expect too much out of it.

What you have here is a unique shooter with interesting weaponry that delivers an often times extremely stressfully exciting play atmosphere. I truly miss the days when if you lost health, you lost health. All regenerating health does is promote hiding, whereas with a non-regenerating health mechanic, when you drop down to almost no life, your options are die or go cowboy and hope it works out. Frankly, I enjoy being a cowboy way more than a hiding thumb sucker. Pick the game up, it is pretty fun. The Move functionality is entertaining as well. My biggest drop in score comes from the one time use codes; I will never agree with this system. The campaign is like a roller coaster when it comes to difficulty, from being a cakewalk to it just ramming you with snipers and nearly impossible hoards of enemies. What i dislike about the campaign is 1. Sometimes it just gets too impossible that you need to just put it down for a minute; and 2. That if one person dies when you're co-oping with someone, then it's basically a game over. Not as in "oh no, i can't do this alone" but as in "wtf, the game ended and now we need to start back here?." So the campaign does have some flaws, but those flaws can make it or break it for the players. Moving on to Multiplayer: Ah multiplayer, a large portion of the game that decides whether it's a buy or a rent to the player. The multiplayer is somewhat disappointing. with only few weapons but many perks, it does get boring after a little. There is no team balance, and you unlock weapons and perks based on level, together you get unbalanced games where the team that almost always wins are the ones with wildfires (the rocket launchers of this game), which are unlock only at a high level! And the killing sprees are just ridiculous. Not ridiculous as in "HOLY **** but ridiculous as in "Was that it?" Though don't get me wrong, the multiplayer can get a little wild and is worth playing. Overall Resistance 3 is just an amazing game with flaws that can shy a player away from buying it, but if you can overlook these flaws then you'll find yourself addicted to this game. Expand

Where as the story of Fall of Men and 2 felt epic, with high stakes and characters that would be memorable, the story of Resistance 3 feels like a spin-off rather than a sequel. Capelli, who was a testosterone fueled a-hole in 2, is now suddenly a run of the mill 'i'll do anything to safe my over expressive wife and child' hairy guy that whines a lot.

The scary tone of the game is mostly gone as human enemies are introduced (boring), enemy designs look more cartoon-ish (why?) and the cutscenes are focused on humans rather than the Chimera.

Having the weapon wheel back was fun, but didn't add much other than using the appropriate weapon for the specific enemies. Standing on a boat that prohibits you from moving in a level, but forces you to listen to radio chatter is not fun. Who thought that would be appealing to fans of a horror FPS game?

The way guns evolve is cool, and some of the weapons like the mutator are a lof of fun to use. The enemies however are not much more than Sniper unit, Rifle unit and other-knock offs. What saddens me most is the lack of variety in the levels and bosses. Resistance 2 was packed with this, and in 3 it comes down to just a handfull clumsy encounters.

Having waited 3 years to see what happens after the cliffhanger ending of 2, i was very disappointed. I was expecting a final clash in the sense of The Matrix Revolutions, where two unstoppable entities would clash to determine who would be the dominant species on Earth. But NO! What we got was a road trip across the boonies to destroy a terraformer. Great writing Insomniac... Yuck.

Resistance 2 will always be my favorite entry in the series, and even though i didn't like part 3 as much as the previous games i do find it a good enough game. I just wished that it wasn't the last one in the main series.

What killed this game (for me) though are a few things: ***BUGS! I have never seen a console game with this many bugs. If you do not run the game (skip updating) and install the data to the drive BEFORE downloading the patch, then your data will corrupt, wasting hours of download/install time, as well as 30 minutes waiting while the corrupt data gets deleted. On top of that, it freezes A LOT. Literally after an hour or two of playing it would freeze. That's how I decided when I was done playing for the day. Unacceptably buggy. I regularly play other PS3 games, and NONE of them have ever frozen. ***Lame shooter cliches. It seems like every FPS ever includes an "escort" (aka 'I'm gonna run out into direct fire. SAVE ME!') mission, which are never ever ever EVER fun. I have never played one that didn't annoy me. Also, the later missions are like the last few minutes in a basketball game: progress is SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. Move 10 feet, shoot seemingly endlessly-respawning baddies for 5 minutes, move 20 feet, shoot for another 5 minutes, repeat ad naseum. I actually never finished the game because the last mission became such a tedious chore. I don't play games to beat them, I play games to have fun. Bottom line: I'm glad I rented this through Gamefly, since I doubt I'd ever put it in my PS3 again. There are so many great games out there, why would I waste an extra second on a mediocre one? They added co-op back in though. That's cool. Expand

I'm incredibly disappointed with this game. Now since i really liked the single player campaign I gave this game a 6/10, but what they did to the multiplayer aspect of the game is inexcusable. I've seen some user reviews of people saying that Metacritic is being trolled by 360 fans, but the truth of the matter is that if you are a true fan of this series, then you should not be afraid to tell Insomniac about what your true feelings are towards this game. I was a massive fan of all Socom games on PS2, and this year Zipper released Socom 4 which was an abomination to the Socom series, and yet there were people trying to defend the game even though Zipper took everything out of the game that makes Socom unique to everything else out there. Get over it, Resistance fans got the shaft this time around. Expand

Underwhelming for a franchise. Outdated in this day of filmic FPS games. Not the worst game of the year, but a fairly limp way to end the Trilogy. Graphics left much to the imagination.

Again, this game only improved the graphics. The theme is different this time, no more military theme, more like a post-apocalypse theme. Nothing is really good, the whole thing actually quite cliche with generic story and generic characters. No boss fights, only swarm of enemies. This game is only for the series' fans, and also for FPS hardcore.

Once again, an average game. Nothing that makes it unique. Bland story made worse by average characters. Not very engaging. Better than its predecessor. This game can be fun, if you're really bored I mean. Overrated, nothing sparkles. Would not recommend this game. The ending was not satisfying, and I felt ripped off. Resistance is nothing special, end of story.

That's gone. Wiped out. Dead. The Multiplayer is now just a slightly aberrant experience, nothing exciting and nothing that would make you say 'whoa, that was pretty epic!' like in R2. Secondly, the Campaign didn't strike me as anything special either. Sure, we saw a lot of big, badass looking Chimera, but didn't get to fight many at all- mostly just grunts. I just wish Insomniac would figure out where they wanted to series to go and just stick to that formula. Insomniac reminds me of Linkin Park- if anyone knows who they are you'll probably get it. However, I did still enjoy it. Sure, there are parts that really annoy you and the plot is a bit shallow (just my opinion) but at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is fun. Is Resistance 3 fun? Extremely. Expand

As a huge fan of Resistance 1 and 2 I would like to offer a word of advice to those on the fence--this is a crippled sequel lacking many of the unique and innovative qualities that help Resistance stand at (or near) the front of the line of console shooters!

    Story--
I would like to say, "What story?" and leave it at that--but it probably wouldn't help anyone. The first 2 Resistance games are more about the alien invasion than the main character Hale--kind of like Predator and Alien. Each game took us deeper into the Chimeran world and way of thinking. Not R3. You gain little to no new information about the Chimeran race. If anything, you gain more questions and they're not provoking enough to warrant answers.

They attempt a more "personal" story about a man conflicted between being with his family and saving the human race from inevitable destruction. I mean, I think that's what they're going for. Really, it's just a bunch of melodramatic "We have to find the power cell to get to New York" junk that couldn't keep a five year-old entertained. Half the dialog is, "Open that door."

The ending is horribly anti-climatic. I think something "big" happened, but since the game felt so small the entire time I hardly noticed. As a matter of fact--I'm not so sure we accomplished what we set out to do. If Resistance 1 and 2 are to be considered Books in the epic saga that is Resistance, than R3 is a 32 page comic book subplot that we'd all be better off not reading.

    Graphics--
There's definitely some interesting effects going on here but the camera is too "zoomed" in to make your environment manageable. I often got lost in small rooms because I couldn't get a wide enough view to grasp my surroundings. It's not a big problem unless you play two player--where the screen is already cropped. Ultimately, this game isn't the prettiest nor the ugliest. Gameplay--
The game is practically glitch free. I say that because it's not really impressive. It's a shooter and that's it. You run to this room--shoot everything there. Run to the next room--shoot everything there. This would be fine if each room offered unique and interesting gunfights like Resistance 2 but most the time it's pretty standard. Also, half the game is just walking in areas void of enemies or objectives. I think these were supposed to be moments for us to take in the post-apocalyptic, 1950s USA--but it really just reminded me how little this game has to offer. The first two levels of Resistance 2 had more interesting fights and situations than R3's entire campaign mode.

And what about bosses? Sure, they weren't wildly innovative in R2 but they were interesting enough to warrant inclusion. If I remember correctly, there's only 2 real boss fights in R3 and they're against the same creature.

    Multiplayer--
Honestly, I only played for about five minutes. Seeing as I'm a huge fan of Battlefield I'm not sure how simple 8-on-8 is going to keep my attention. But my complaint is not what this online multiplayer is like--it's what it's lacking. Notably the 8-player co-op mode from Resistance 2. Maybe you didn't like it but I loved it. If you're fan of Left 4 Dead or Borderlands--like myself--than surely you can appreciate the added value of having such a mode with this game. I was quite shocked they excluded it as it was the primary feature I was looking forward to. Then I saw Insomniac's teaser trailer for their multiplatform game. It happens to be a class-based, co-op shooter very much inspired by what they did in R2. That's not very nice Insomniac.

Ultimately I feel cheated. This is one of the few sequels I've seen that so heavily scrapped features that were popular and successful in previous iterations. It appears Insomniac trusted dedicated fans to blindly purchase this game--almost like Guitar Hero sequel--while resources were focused on their new IP. If you're not convinced by me at least rent before you buy. Don't worry about the online pass as it's hardly worth the free code that comes with a new copy.

This is the last Insomniac game I'll buy. Maybe Sony will give the franchise to Ready at Dawn??

The story is sub par, unfortunately. The characters are whiny and uninteresting. The plot is cut and paste alien invasion sci-fi. On the plus side, the fact that the protagonist is married with a son is interesting. You don't often see a family man in games.

Resistance 3 reeks of mediocrity. I beat part 1 and 2 and enjoyed them at the time of release. Maybe I was expecting too much, but usually PS3 exclusives are high-quality games. Broken enemy ai. Restrictive and generic call of duty style gameplay. Poor graphical optimization that tarnishes the great art direction. And an offensively anti climactic ending. Seriously: Guy needs to destroy tower in New York. Guy travels across country. Guy gets to New York. Guy destroys tower. Guy goes home to his family. The end.

There’s no character development and no epilogue.

There’s no character development and no epilogue. Many stories could be oversimplified by haters but this is truly all that happens. No explanation of what happens to the chimera or how humanity survives. It’s like they just ran out of money and had to ship this one a year before it was ready. It’s too bad because the vibe is cool. Unfortunately the gameplay is undercooked and inferior to the first game in every way.

The campaign side of the game is solid but not particularly innovating. If the game were that alone I would rate this a solid 7 and maybe even an 8... but throw in the complete mess of multiplayer and I can't help but rate that portion as a 1 or even a big fat ZERO. As sad as it may be in the FPS world today multiplayer is the big determining factor for replayability but this just seemed like 2 steps back from R2. If you feel like you can just jump right in and play the multiplayer you are in for a shock. Get ready to see beautiful scenery and bright flashes of light, color, and skills that can blow your mind and probably confuse you until you can create your custom load out with the video demos of what each thing does. Insomniac couldn't be bothered to print the descriptions of each skill in the manual so for the first few levels you'll be completely lost on what each thing does unless you research it online or watch the demos. Unfortunately, the pretty scenery doesnt get you anywhere when the gameplay is so lacking. The main issue I find is that the lag is insane. To make this worse it's not network lag, it's graphical lag. The PS3 just simply cannot handle all the flashes and effects when 3 or more players are congregated in close proximity. You can forget about getting a bead on someone's head while aiming down the sights with anything but the sniper rifle due to the jerky movements and lost frames when your PS3 is chugging along trying to put everything in it's proper place. You think that person you've unloaded your entire carbine clip into is standing in front of you but really they've already one shotted you from the side by an atomizer or shotgun.

That brings up the second major issue. There is VERY little skill involved with the gameplay and has more to do with the dedication of time getting past that low level grind so you can get weapons that will utterly demolish people. I can't even count the number of times I have died without understanding how it happened. I will see and hear no gunfire, receive no warning, and be immediately dead due to either a glitch or a skill/weapon that gives an enormous advantage over lower level players. Can you imagine sitting there with a weapon that can take up to 30 shots to kill someone versus another player that is invisible, undetectable by radar, shielded, and is carrying multiple one shot kill weapons or can see you and fire through walls? All this said the game has potential to be fixed through updates. Its impressive to look at and with a little tweak in balancing my review could be seriously re-evaluated. In doing research online a lot of the people that played the beta and other pre-finalized versions stated the frame rate issues were not nearly as bad but still present.

Pros - Beautiful to look at.
    Creative weaponry and skills.
    Good, Solid story.

Cons - Graphical lag via lost frames.
No explanation of multiplayer skills from the beginning.
    Unbalanced weaponry and skills.

If this game was called something other than Resistance, it might have been a good game, but its not.

The story is around 5 hours long. The core mechanics that were present in the previous titles are gone. The protagonist was replaced with a good character, that was not properly played out in this game. The pacing of the story is off as well. The AI is crap.

What insomniac did in their 3 to 4 years of development was that they took everything Call of Duty stands for and Threw a coat of Resistance on it and called it their game. Resistance 3.

The only thing I found good about this game were the graphics and some of the detailing to the weaponry and it effects, such as the mutator, and the atomizer.

The game was also falsely advertised. In a trailer they show a group of people heading to new York together. And in another there is a little girl who begins to follow Capelli to NY as well. None of these details came into the game at all. You stuck with one other character for the time being. A lot of the road you were alone. Sure they had communication with certain characters but it made it feel forced. Many times when you would need dialog it was not there, and then at other times they threw it in for the hell of it.

As for MP, They got rid of the clan system, went from 60 players online to 16. Went from an all out war to a camp fest. Put in perks that allowed you to get ammo, and let you spawn with a rocket launcher. WOW Just shoot away and spawn trap. Players had no chance. The game went from Resistance to Call of Duty in 3 years. Sad.

The game was a really disappointing installment, and I am glad Insomniac is no longer on this franchise. This franchise is in need of a reboot. All thanks to this installment.

As a conclusion to the franchise (no doubt pending an awkwardly justified fourth game and spin-offs), Resistance 3 manages to send it off as gracefully as possible.
