I'm only about 3 hours into the campaign right now, but so far, all I can say is that this is the most fun I've ever had with an FPS. It all comes down to one thing: The Guns. They never get old either, because you are constantly being introduced to new guns, and your old ones get upgraded as you use them. The graphics are "different" but not bad, kinda artsy in a way. The environments are pretty cool, and the levels are well designed. The story is also quite compelling. This is definitely the best of the series, and like I said before, this is my new favorite FPS. Bottom line: BUY THIS GAME.

Update: I am much farther in the campaign now, and it's still pretty good. Another bonus is that the campaign is quite long, longer than I expected. The plot has gotten even better and I feel real attachment to the characters and their situation. It's really quite good,

The upgrade system is fantastic and is a great addition. The story is everything you have come to expect from the Resistance series which is a definitely a plus and the dire situation injected into the story is perfectly conveyed throughout the entire game. I am going to play through again in co-op and finish upgrading my weapons and I haven't touched the multiplayer yet on the retail copy. Everything I experienced from the beta from the last month leads me to believe I am going to spend quite a bit of time with multiplayer from here on out. The multiplayer in my opinion is just as polished as COD, Halo & Battlefield but you are just dealing with a more basic concept in R3 and not as intricate. The single player competes with any of those games as well and is very immersive so I would suggest this game to newcomers to the series as well. I could not have asked for any more in my Resistance experience. Expand

Nothing to write home about. The only unique bit from r2 has been removed. Fails to break the mold and doesn't differentiate from anything else in the sci fi fps genre.

The unique multi-player part from R2, has been removed. The PVE part was the greatest thing ever seen, and now they totally destroy it with just an abnormal FPS. Multi-player part: PVP only. This is just a Half-Life, U-Torrent, Quake look a like.... Have never ever been so desapointet, was so looking forward for this game. Dead Island will be my thing instead.

Resistance 3 is a wonderful game. The story is amazing, and the controls are fluid that even my friend who's used to playing pc games can play it. What iResistance 3 is a wonderful game. The story is amazing, and the controls are fluid that even my friend who's used to playing pc games can play it. Campaign: The story is well thought out but can seem lazy at times. The campaign is like a roller coaster when it comes to difficulty, from being a cakewalk to it just ramming you with snipers and nearly impossible hoards of enemies. What i dislike about the campaign is 1. Sometimes it just gets too impossible that you need to just put it down for a minute; and 2. That if one person dies when you're co-oping with someone, then it's basically a game over. Not as in "oh no, i can't do this alone" but as in "wtf, the game ended and now we need to start back here?." So the campaign does have some flaws, but those flaws can make it or break it for the players. Moving on to Multiplayer: Ah multiplayer, a large portion of the game that decides whether it's a buy or a rent to the player. The multiplayer is somewhat disappointing. with only few weapons but many perks, it does get boring after a little. There is no team balance, and you unlock weapons and perks based on level, together you get unbalanced games where the team that almost always wins are the ones with wildfires (the rocket launchers of this game), which are unlock only at a high level! And the killing sprees are just ridiculous. Not ridiculous as in "HOLY **** but ridiculous as in "Was that it?" Though don't get me wrong, the multiplayer can get a little wild and is worth playing. Overall Resistance 3 is just an amazing game with flaws that can shy a player away from buying it, but if you can overlook these flaws then you'll find yourself addicted to this game. Expand

Resistance 3 is OK. It's plot is fine but nothing special. The graphics are quite drab but fit the world well. Some of the weapons are kooky and unique but none of them are particularly satisfying. The combat is mostly decent but also extremely generic. That's enough to just about save Resistance 3 from the scrap-pile, but it's a close call. Expand

Somewhat fun, but boring and repetitive. Then, you reach the tower and while trying to enter the tower, they make it impossible to get into because of the relentless waves of enemies and no ammo. It was ridiculous.

As much an improvement over R2 as R2 was over R1, a pleasure to play and much, much better than its "only on PlayStation" contemporary (Killzone). Weapons and enemies are imaginative and varied (as well as familiar) and a pleasure to encounter, even the huge (awesome) boss creatures. Setting and art style are unique and detailed. Great stuff all around.

Honestly, I'v never been really impressed by the Resistance series that much. I've always thought of them as just good games. Nothing amazing, or great. It just could be told so much better. Anyways, putting all of that aside. Resistance 3 does stand out to be the best Resistance game yet. With the great looking new HD graphics, Resistance has never looked better. Gameplay also feels improved and much smoother. The story did have more emotion to it, which is good. It's nice to actually want to feel something for these characters.

Although campaign is my strong point in any game, the multiplayer is pretty much as good as it gets. Fans may be disappointed that the amount of players in a match have lowered from 60 to 16 players, but it's still the same fun experience.

So all around, Resistance 3 is a good game, but does not stand out to many of the other great titles this year. Don't see it being nominated for any "Game of the Year" awards. However, this is just my opinion.

Again, this game only improved the graphics. The theme is different this time, no more military theme, more like a post-apocalypse theme. Nothing is really good, the whole thing actually quite cliche with generic story and generic characters. No boss fights, only swarm of enemies. This game is only for the series' fans, and also for FPS hardcore.

If this game was called something other than Resistance, it might have been a good game, but its not.

The story is around 5 hours long. The core mechanics that were present in the previous titles are gone. The protagonist was replaced with a good character, that was not properly played out in this game. The pacing of the story is off as well. The AI is crap.

What insomniac did in their 3 to 4 years of development was that they took everything Call of Duty stands for and Threw a coat of Resistance on it and called it their game. Resistance 3.

The only thing I found good about this game were the graphics and some of the detailing to the weaponry and it effects, such as the mutator, and the atomizer.

The game was also falsely advertised. In a trailer they show a group of people heading to new York together. And in another there is a little girl who begins to follow Capelli to NY as well. None of these details came into the game at all. You stuck with one other character for the time being. A lot of the road you were alone. Sure they had communication with certain characters but it made it feel forced. Many times when you would need dialog it was not there, and then at other times they threw it in for the hell of it.

As for MP, They got rid of the clan system, went from 60 players online to 16. Went from an all out war to a camp fest. Put in perks that allowed you to get ammo, and let you spawn with a rocket launcher. WOW Just shoot away and spawn trap. Players had no chance. The game went from Resistance to Call of Duty in 3 years. Sad.

The game was a really disappointing installment, and I am glad Insomniac is no longer on this franchise. This franchise is in need of a reboot. All thanks to this installment.

Resistance 3, according to the developers, was an attempt to focus on a few things intensely instead of doing a whole lot of things like in Resistance 2. What's is funny to me is that, despite the effort to make Resistance 3 the best, it feels like the worst in many ways.

Where as the story of Fall of Men and 2 felt epic, with high stakes and characters that would be memorable, the story of Resistance 3 feels like a spin-off rather than a sequel. Capelli, who was a testosterone fueled a-hole in 2, is now suddenly a run of the mill 'i'll do anything to safe my over expressive wife and child' hairy guy that whines a lot.

The scary tone of the game is mostly gone as human enemies are introduced (boring), enemy designs look more cartoon-ish (why?) and the cutscenes are focused on humans rather than the Chimera.

Having the weapon wheel back was fun, but didn't add much other than using the appropriate weapon for the specific enemies. Standing on a boat that prohibits you from moving in a level, but forces you to listen to radio chatter is not fun. Who thought that would be appealing to fans of a horror FPS game?

The way guns evolve is cool, and some of the weapons like the mutator are a lof of fun to use. The enemies however are not much more than Sniper unit, Rifle unit and other-knock offs. What saddens me most is the lack of variety in the levels and bosses. Resistance 2 was packed with this, and in 3 it comes down to just a handfull clumsy encounters.

Having waited 3 years to see what happens after the cliffhanger ending of 2, i was very disappointed. I was expecting a final clash in the sense of The Matrix Revolutions, where two unstoppable entities would clash to determine who would be the dominant species on Earth. But NO! What we got was a road trip across the boonies to destroy a terraformer. Great writing Insomniac... Yuck.

Resistance 2 will always be my favorite entry in the series, and even though i didn't like part 3 as much as the previous games i do find it a good enough game. I just wished that it wasn't the last one in the main series.

The variety and originality of the weapons, a well known trace of the series, is back and improved. Enemy AI is very impressive and atmosphere, one of this title strong points, is truly remarkable. The combination of the stylized, expressive, melancholic and gritty art-style with interesting, emotional and dark music produce a very immersive gaming experience.

The only negative aspects of this game are the initial installation and patching, but these two points are not direct related to the great and unique gaming experience this game offer.

Resistance 3 and Dark Souls are, in my opinion, the best games of 2011.

Fanboys are raging about the game not doing anything outside the box but what about the weapon wheel and health system? Resistance 3 is probably the only FPS of this generation where you can carry more than 3 guns and it doesn't has the auto-regeneration health that Halo made so popular back in the day. The truth is that Resistance 3 packs a great story even thought the ending was a disappointment. The gameplay is oldchool (I bet most of you started playing the genre with Halo so I don't think you'll know what I mean by "oldschool") but feels new and it's responsive. Graphics are pretty good but the animations are a bit stiff. The multiplayer is no Call of Duty but can be enjoyable for quite a while.

The graphics are also much improved, and environments are finely detailed, and atmospheric, accompanied by the music giving a great overall cinematic feel.

The gameplay is sweet also, as you advance through the game, a great arsenal of weapons become available, that you can level up, the more you use them, the more powerfull they become. Theirs some great moments here, nothing that hasn't been done before, but it's all done so well, with great attention. If you have any doubts that I had when I bought this then you should bite the bullet and give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

While it's not a perfect game, it's the most fun I've had playing a video game in a long time! That deserves a 10! Lots and lots of ememies, tons of action, varied environments, a storyline that moves things along, etc. Go get it!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have to admit im a fan of the series, loved the first 1. 2nd one was okay, but this was Great!!!. They nailed it on the spot with this one. Im glad the Weapon Wheel was brought back. even though the game was kinda short i still got a good experience from it. also at the After Capelli closed the wormhole from stopping the world from freezing and from keeping the Pure Chimera form entering through the wormhole. After capelli closed it there were still many chimera left on the planet. The chimera were dealt a blow but was not beaten. this leads speculation to a resistance 4 maybe?? but overall all great game. Expand

I'd have to say based on my own experience this game is not as boring as some would say. This game offers the creeps with detailed intel reports and creepy audio messages. Moreover, the cutscenes and flashbacks in this game gives off the good old "MGS" theatrical vibe, which is of course, one of the best games to integrate movie like elements into a game. The new multiplayer is a vast improvement from No.2 and is just downright fun. Yes, FUN, the one and only thing important in online gaming. Overall, this game is worth your money and time, offers a brilliant and well crafted story along with all those exciting quirks and what not that will make you game out of your mind. Flaming shotguns, laser guns that lock on and bend around corners, and kill streaks that dont totally unbalance the game and have great weapons like the Augur to use for a few seconds.

Overall I think this is the FPS of the year on the PS3 and probably on all consoles.

Resistance 2 is just an average game. I don't know why critics and fans say is soooo great. Of course, it looks nice and ending is cool but single player campaign is extremely repetitive. Story is interesting but AI is still a joke. Not challenging at all. MP is great though. Buy it second hand or rent it.

Like its predecessors, R3 paints an absorbing and beautifully horrific world.

I admit to being disappointed in the online component, after R2's delightful 8x coop and chaotic pvp. Not every game should be MAG with its 128v128, but R2 hit a good note in its medium-large matches.

Now when is an FPS going to offer matchmaking with a serious effort at match balance?

The way they implement the different effects such as zooming in when running and the blur effects and lighting are spectacular as well are the textures in the distance. The con would be the textures when your up close to them because they look blurry and just not all that pretty. That's my only gripe or this would've gotten a 10/10 score. The multiplayer is awesome as well and is more personal this time around rather then running and gunning with 63 other players and getting ambushed in a bottle neck. 16 player is perfect for this game and plays very well I did notice a little noticeable lag online, just a little. really? well im sorry but i question if you played this or half life. half life in its time was one of the best games and had a very compelling story w/ characters to match. this is resistance 3. and it did not bring the same , it brought new. and i welcomed and enjoyed it.game of the year? no.game worth playing and owning if you are a fan of resistance or a fan of having a good gaming exp, yes. with a ton of generic f.p.s its refreshing to play one which doesnt follow suit. if you look to compare then you will rate the game w/ another in mind. the way i rate, and so do others on here, is to place the game in console and press start with the thoughts of, i hope this is good..and then tell others what this game offered and lacked. half life is one of those games that dont come very often, and if one were to compare this with half life, base the review on such and then rate it poorly, then you are saying half life is a 3 thats when confusion sets in and the rating system is useless. everyone has an opinion, but it seems some also have an agenda. i say this from what i read and see, not by what i think. game is good, it is better than average and has nice visuals along w/ gameplay. 8.5-8.7. and if i were to compare this to games which were down right bad, then this would be a 10. but thats not how it works. simple, play the game and review it honestly and non-biased and if in fact you have good or bad opinions then present material which supports it, and base it on this game. if you are confused to the ratings then try/rent b4 you buy. now go ahead and spam that no button under my review.lol. been gaming forever. mgs4,halo,uncharted,c.o.d. waw,bbc2,mario cart, ultima online, half life, starcraft, diablo 2,max payne, crysis, dues ex,fable 2,kings quest, zelda ocarina,rsv2.few fav's Expand

Resistance 3 is a thrill ride from start to finish and doesnt require you to play the first 2 games to understand it (because I didn't play them like I had stated before.) On top of that all of the weapons are interesting, the story is dark and gritty (just how I like my shooters,) and the characters (while they don't go into a lot of detail about them) we're interesting and likable. The reasonably long campaign didnt feel like a burdon as my friend and I played for several hours and lost track of time. The only downside is that there are about 7 parts in the game where they toss you in pitch black with a very dim flashlight which makes it hard to find your way around even with the brightness turned all the way up. I have not tried the multiplayer but I do know the cool mode is gone but who knows, maybe they will release it as dlc with even more than before. All in all a good, fun ride. Expand

It gives us a feel of the camera. Now its a new game trend I guess. The story progression is great. So far the reviews by other people is just not acceptable. They give it a low score just because of 1 coop mission taken off. Thats insane! Just because of 1 small thing they give it like 3 or 2 out of 10. Hmmm.... Looks like they buy the game just because of Multi player. Resistance 3 is best in Campaign the multiplayer is just an add-on please think of the campagin. Same like BF3 it has a solid multiplayer but bad Campagin. So now go play that game if you want multiplayer do not complain that this does not have a good one and give it score like 3/10 2/10. The new Boss fight is introduced which is very good they have weak points so making it more interesting to play. Final ending of the game is new in all games. With solid gameplay! Guns! Explosions! Chimeras! AND Capelli is a good new hero for Resistance series. Why I said R2 was not that great was cause they finished Hale too early! There should have been 1 more Resistance before he was done!

So because of the solid campagin and great story telling! If you like campagin games you should check Resistance 3 out! The best in the series and more Resistance would be nice. Resistance world is a solid platform for games. It could be easily developed! And Insomniac Games is very good in doing it! Hopefully Resistance 4 comes out!

Finally! Resistance 3 is a must play game! So I am giving it 10/10

I only started playing yesterday and so far it great. Not a great leap in FPS games but it seems pretty decent so far. If you played the first two resistance games, it will take you some time before you get used to not regenerating your health, and the AI is abit more amped so they don't just stand there and let you hit them. Im enjoying it so far, will update the review later

I tried adjusting the settings and just could not figure out the life of me how to make it not terrible. I've had the same problem with some of the wii fps and they are nearly unplayable for me, thank god for the dual shock, but anyways this is not a wii review, this is a resistance 3 review. I love the resistance series probably one of my favorite fps series ever, Insomniac did not fail to disappoint with R3. The story isn't that long it may have taken me a little over 10 hours which is around the standard time it takes to complete a FPS these days. The only sad thing is I am still left wanting more knowing that this is the final resistance game. Sounds were great, voice acting also top notch. Graphics don't seem very colorful but they are good. Guns look snazzy and just as creative as the other resistance games, the mutator gun became my favorite instantly for its hilarious effects. Watching enemies vomit was amusing. I don't think there are as many guns as in resistance 1 but theres still a lot. I was a little disappointed that the ending didn't show much more. Regardless still another solid PS3 exclusive fps to add to the collection. I didn't play the MP wasn't much interested so I can't really say anything of it. Alone the game is worth playing for the single player, worth giving a rental unless you can find a cheap copy or get it for free. Expand

I love me some single player FPSes, and couldn't really care less about multiplayer. This game is a decent example of single player campaigns done right. What killed this game (for me) though are a few things: ***BUGS! I have never seen a console game with this many bugs. If you do not run the game (skip updating) and install the data to the drive BEFORE downloading the patch, then your data will corrupt, wasting hours of download/install time, as well as 30 minutes waiting while the corrupt data gets deleted. On top of that, it freezes A LOT. Literally after an hour or two of playing it would freeze. That's how I decided when I was done playing for the day. Unacceptably buggy. I regularly play other PS3 games, and NONE of them have ever frozen. ***Lame shooter cliches. It seems like every FPS ever includes an "escort" (aka 'I'm gonna run out into direct fire. SAVE ME!') mission, which are never ever ever EVER fun. I have never played one that didn't annoy me. Also, the later missions are like the last few minutes in a basketball game: progress is SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. Move 10 feet, shoot seemingly endlessly-respawning baddies for 5 minutes, move 20 feet, shoot for another 5 minutes, repeat ad naseum. I actually never finished the game because the last mission became such a tedious chore. I don't play games to beat them, I play games to have fun. Bottom line: I'm glad I rented this through Gamefly, since I doubt I'd ever put it in my PS3 again. There are so many great games out there, why would I waste an extra second on a mediocre one? They added co-op back in though. That's cool. Expand

One of the best FPS (and general) game experience ever! After playing R3 in 3D, all the hard earned cash I had spent on my new TV seemed completely worth it. I could talk for hours about how great R3 is but instead I will just urge you to play it! the only minor fault is that the amazing water effect from R2 has disappeared with a luck luster one :s.

What you have here is a unique shooter with interesting weaponry that delivers an often times extremely stressfully exciting play atmosphere. I truly miss the days when if you lost health, you lost health. All regenerating health does is promote hiding, whereas with a non-regenerating health mechanic, when you drop down to almost no life, your options are die or go cowboy and hope it works out. Frankly, I enjoy being a cowboy way more than a hiding thumb sucker. Pick the game up, it is pretty fun. The Move functionality is entertaining as well. My biggest drop in score comes from the one time use codes; I will never agree with this system. It is a tedious chore thrust upon gamers because corporatized gaming wants to see their bottom line fatter. Expand

The story of this game is good. Nothing more, nothin less. Can't get into too much detail without using spoilers, but you have one simple goal to achieve and the way to it is interesting with nice ideas, tense moments and diversity, albeit avoiding to feel forced. What I mean is it never feels like "now is the vehicle level, now is the creepy level, now the sneak&snipe section ..." Yes, you will be on a vehicle, yes, you will have to sneak and so on, but it always feels fresh and natural to the story and events. There are a few really neat twists and surprises, but nothing too exaggerated or "so mindblowing, I saw it coming"y.

Some of the characters could've used more screentime and development, for instance Dr. Malikov is mostly just meaningful because you know him from the previous game. Even though he accompanies you for a big part of the story, you rarely get to know him better than you already do from R2. Capelli himself could've used more characterisation, just a few sentimental moments were not enough, though some scenes with him were really sweet and when he gets his exposition, it's usually well done and believable.

Personally, I didn't like the strong "military shooter" tone of the prequel, so I'm glad this one is more of a "survival & desperate attempts" and "roadmovie" story, sorry if I cannot express it better. Now most people seem to not play FPS for the melodram, what about the gameplay? Most importantly, the weapon wheel is back and regenerating health has been ditched, both of which I gladly welcome and like a lot. The weapons are interesting, have their use and can be upgraded to have even more functions, but I'm sad the ripper isn't there any longer. However, the Grim suck this time. While they were creepy and the sections wih them kind of scary in R2, this time, they're just annoying and appear much too often. Other than that, it's pretty good, a lot of variation both in landscapes and situations. I also liked how you must use your weapons wisely, especially on higher difficulties, but I thought they overdid it with the sniper enemies towards the end. It's not that those sections are bad, but at one point I just was like: "What, ANOTHER area with snipers?!"

Content is good, too, it doesn't get lengthy and is still no short game by any means, I'd say it's pretty much perfect in that regard, especially when you consider how short FPS games tend to be nowadays.

There's one thing I must point out which I considered very disappointing and that's the bosses. There are only a few to begin with, they're not THAT interesting and still get repeated, that's just lame. Sounds worse than it is, maybe, but I had hoped for more.

Graphics/Sound/Music/: Nothing much to say, I found the presentation of this game to be great in all aspects.

Again, keep in mind I'm not saying anything about the MP. Overall, I'm giving this 9/10 because I seriously enjoyed it a lot and the few gripes I had do not weigh that heavily for me.

However, 3 really disappointed me, in fact, the whole series disappointed me with the fact the games are set in the 1950s, but you would never know that seeing all the futuristic weaponry floating around. They could have done something unique with the setting but they blew that opportunity back in the first one. The game is fairly fun though and the multiplayer is really nice. Resistance 3 is much improved over resistance 2, and all the guns are tons of fun to use. Even if characters aren't very interesting, the battles are great, the cutscenes looks good, and the weapons are very unique. Other than the pretty good and well paced campaign, the multiplayer can be very fun once you start unlocking guns and more equipment. Recommended if you love FPS games.

This game is truly something unique nowadays, because of its old school nature. This is obvious because of two reasons. First, health packs are present, with not even a hint of regenerative health. I love that. Second, almost the entire game, the player is alone. Sure, there are some NPCs accompanying him sometimes, but the one man army feel of the old shooters is back. There will never be a squad with you, annoying you with their bad AI. I love that even more.
To summarize, this game is incredible in every way.

First gripe is that the cinematics don't look very good in stereo 3d. Either they are conversions . . . or the convergence is set so low that everything is just flat. Also the frame-rate is really low with 3d enabled. It doesn't feel like it ever really hits 30fps, and it's usually more like 15. The resolution is also extremely low, 500 lines at the most. Resistance also suffers from some pretty terrible ghosting, which I don't think is due to my monitor (it plays pc 3d games with no ghosting whatsoever). It may be due to the low frame-rate not quite lining up with the 3d glasses. Finally, most of the iron-site cursors are not in 3d, making it difficult to aim while zoomed.

There are some good things to say about the 3d as well :) There are no rendering errors (aside from the ghosting) and the cursor floats out in front of you as it should. Also, the 3d effect is nice and strong once you max it out in the menu. Resistance also sports a really nice convergence trick. As you walk toward objects in a 3dVision game, you often get really horrific errors like objects that are attempting to render themselves inside your head or behind you. Also, you get objects that will render on top of or inside of one another. This really hurts the eyes. Resistance solves this issue by subtly altering the convergence of the 3d effect, so as you walk toward something it never actually pops out of the screen or touches your gun. This may sound like kind of a bummer, but in practice it really reduces eye strain.

As a shooter, Resistance is above average, but only just. The guns are the real shinning star of the game, but the low framerates leave the encounters feeling a little squishy for my tastes. Pacing is excellent, very reminiscent of Half-Life 2. Art and design are both fantastic; however, the story and acting fall flat. It has my recommendation, provided you don't expect too much out of it.

It's more of kill some baddies and hope there is a health canister near by(in easier modes they are plentiful) I like this because it keeps you fighting without having to take a break and wait 5secs. to heal up. Just keep gunning and hope you run over one and then keep gunning and fighting. The weapons are far out, and the enemy death animations rival Gears of War. Part of the challenge is figuring out which weapons work better with which foes. The co-op campaign mode is fun too, though there are many more online players who just want to jump around and kill everything, rather than actually play together in a co-operative story mode. There are numerous multiplayer modes, just like in every FPS nowadays. I played the beta version of the multiplayer mode a bunch before the game came out, but now that I have it the campaign and co-op modes are much more entertaining for me. The multiplayer mode for R2 tried to force people to play together and take on different roles to work together. But that has been largely abandoned, as most of the multiplayer world does not care about strategy or teamwork, just amassing points, to no end. The campaign has replay value and is not something you can blow through all that quickly, which is great for me. A solid game. Expand

My purchase of R2 was warranted by only one thing: the 8-player online coop mode. This is the first game to ever get me into online gaming, and only 2 other games have done so since. I was hooked to this. It could've used some improvements for sure, especially support of further downloadable content - namely more levels and missions - but overall it was fantastic. Insomniac had something incredible here. When I heard they weren't including the 8-player coop in R3 I was blown away and confused. The only reason I see for this is laziness. I think Insomniac was ready to be done making exclusives instead of making more money by going multiplat. I think they just wanted to put a sufficient - rather than excellent - effort into this game just to get done with it and move on. Wanting to make more money is somewhat understandable though.

Anyways, I tried to stay positive toward the game during the pre-release phase despite the exclusion of the 8-player coop, and it worked bc I was pumped for this game. Campaigns are what I live for usually anyways. I missed the campaign quality from R:FoM, and from the sound of it R3 was gonna deliver the campaign R2 failed to do. Really??); the enemy AI was terrible and scripted; the human AI was just terrible (spoiler-the part where you meet up with the resistance group that has the chopper, and you run into one of the ape enemies...as I ran around for 10 minutes evading ape guy, my "allies" stood in the corner, failing to fire a single bullet, let alone actually move. At one point when I was forced in their direction, I couldn't help but notice that they were all facing the wall. Apparently facing a wall makes you invisible to ape enemies, bc he certainly paid zero attention to anyone but me. Should've tried the wall approach); running feels like a brisk walk; melee is neither fluid nor fast to give you that great feeling of a spray-with-bullets-then-finish-off-with-sweet-melee-to-the-face combination; animations are awful at times (spoiler-the arena when you have the hammer to defend yourself...great example of terrible enemy AI, but also bad animations. Each time you hit an enemy with your hammer it's like some sort of joke how their bodies react. Pinball anyone?); grenade throwing is odd and it seems slow-motion is turned on each time you toss one; and the last thing I can think of is the sound - sound either didn't occur or was delayed many, many times when it was supposed to (example: major explosion without the occurrence of explosion sounds), making for majorly anticlimactic moments (maybe it was my ps3 though?). The only thing I found myself truly enjoying about R3 was the shooting and the ability to upgrade your weapons. I liked this added feature a lot, and it was the only thing that kept me playing.

Anyways, my goal isn't to bash R3 or Insomniac. Im incredibly disappointed though bc I wanted so badly to have the excellence of R:FoM's campaign (and R2's 8-player coop) continued and expanded upon. It killed me when I saw how poor R3 was selling (preorders), but after playing it I don't blame ps3 owners for not lining up at the door to purchase it. There's just not really much to tempt anyone to buy R3 over any other game. I love you Insomniac, so please redeem yourself by going 110% on all of your games in the future. And if you want sales, load your game with content rather than cutting back on it.

As a standalone game I would give R3 a 7.5. When comparing it to my expectations due to my love for the series, I would give it between a 5-6.5. I'll be nice and give it a 7.

This game is different from R2, definitely, but in a good way. Awesome graphics, the chimera are updated nicely, lighting is beautiful, compelling story, interesting characters. A lot of work went into this game and it shows. I am looking forward to Gears of War 3, but this game will give that a run for its money. I love the plot twists in this game. GUNS?!?!?!? did I mention all of the awesome guns you get? I rented this game but I will definitely own it soon. I have NO IDEA why this game is rated so low. The campaign is not predictable at all. It is simply worth at least a 90 on Metacritic. Expand

Excellent Shooter. About just like the first Resistance. Guns are great, but I didn't really care for the return of the health packs.. arghhhhh.

Otherwise this game rocks. I was on the fence between this and Dead Island so I rented them both.....Hands down, this one got purchased. If you like to pick up a gun and shoot alot of crap. Get this.

Campaign is far better than the previous 2 games, more focused and personal you really feel the dread. However I feel the multiplayer has taken a bit of a back seat. I much preferred it on resistance 2, PVE anyone. That said weapon wheel and health flasks make a welcome return bringing some of the best elements of the first game back. I like to also make a comment 49 out of the 84 positive ratings have written review while only 4 of the 43 negative ratings have a written review. I think we have people bashing a good game just to lower the score.

the best FPS and played for years, a very good IA, a campaign buenisima, good graphics, addictive to the max, with the move moves fairly well, going to have to download a patch for the online and after installation, the load times are very low, and the online works of luxury, do not miss it

Aside from Uncharted 3, my most anticipated game this year was Resistance 3, which is why I pre-ordered it. I can say that I absolutely loved the single player campaign, but once I had finished the game I decided to go play some Team Death Match. Well game after game all I experienced was lag and micro-stutter. To make matters worse, the game play feels flat, and has nowhere near the " fun factor" as Resistance 2 did. So I'm sitting there thinking that I could deal with a crappy multi-player game as long as the co-op is good.......so I go to play some co-op and guess what?....theres no matchmaking for co-op or even a server browser, so if none of your friends are playing the game, then you can't play co-op. For the life of me I can't understand why they would go from such a fun, smooth and accessible experience in Resistance 2, to a mess like this in Resistance 3. I'm incredibly disappointed with this game. Now since i really liked the single player campaign I gave this game a 6/10, but what they did to the multiplayer aspect of the game is inexcusable. I've seen some user reviews of people saying that Metacritic is being trolled by 360 fans, but the truth of the matter is that if you are a true fan of this series, then you should not be afraid to tell Insomniac about what your true feelings are towards this game. I was a massive fan of all Socom games on PS2, and this year Zipper released Socom 4 which was an abomination to the Socom series, and yet there were people trying to defend the game even though Zipper took everything out of the game that makes Socom unique to everything else out there. Get over it, Resistance fans got the shaft this time around. Expand

If a game changes people complain, if a game doesn't change people complain, there's no pleasing some people. This game should be judged for what it is, not compared with Resistance 2.
The difference between user and reviewer score really shows the incapability of most users of judging a game objectively.

Wow, what can I say? As a big Resistance fan I feel like I got shafted with R3. First of all it's extremely short, it took me about 5 hours to complete if that. I got it yesterday, played a bit, then play for a bit more today and I'm done. I don't care much about mulitplayer although I used to play it in R2, it's sad to see the scale reduced and the wow dungeon style co-op removed though.Wow, what can I say? I don't care much about mulitplayer although I used to play it in R2, it's sad to see the scale reduced and the wow dungeon style co-op removed though. The graphics are nice although the colours are stupidly dark and the texture contrast makes the game hard to read, the designs are neat and tidy and the feeling of fighnting in a lost war is still overwhelming. As far as the action goes, it seems to me like all the truly epic moments are only there for you to watch and happen as a part of scenery again in contrast to R2, I'm really sad to see the series I love so much in this state. As it is R3 is more of a PSN or Platinum material... Let me put it this way I was expecting competition to Uncharted 3 in FPS form, I got... hmmmm It's a bit like Project Snowblind vs the original Deus Ex. Now one last remark, as far as I rember from various interviews most of these changes have been made to accomodate R1 fans who didn't like R2, but I don't see too many of those anymore. Goes to show devs should focus on designing not on listening to whinging kids on the internet. R3 sadly became the proof of why games shouldn't be designed for the lowest common denominator in gamer populace. Expand

They say the show must go on and in the Resistance world there are still questions to be answered, but the disappointing nature of this third instalment and its failure to deliver at retail most likely means this is the last release in the series. Perhaps such an end is the best option all round.

Resistance 3 does plenty. It's beautiful, thrilling, and-quite unexpectedly-contains one of the most memorable campaigns this side of Halo and Half-Life. In a year full of Sony-branded disappointments, Insomniac has produced an absolute gem.

As a conclusion to the franchise (no doubt pending an awkwardly justified fourth game and spin-offs), Resistance 3 manages to send it off as gracefully as possible.
