    Its cool that R-Type and R-Type II includes both the original versions and an enhanced graphics/music version- all of which can be switched on the fly with one button press. I was hoping that some more extras would be included given its 5 year release after the Xbox 360 version. However, pricing it cheaper at $10 makes up for it. In addtion- the PS3's excellent d-pad makes this game feelIts cool that R-Type and R-Type II includes both the original versions and an enhanced graphics/music version- all of which can be switched on the fly with one button press.     Arcade perfect recreations of the classic ground breaking scrolling shooter R-Type and its tough-as-nails sequel. The merits of the updated graphics and sound are dubious, but it retains the option of playing them in their original state making for a brilliant blast from the past.

    How much you will enjoy R-type will, rather like the game, depend on your age. If you grew up with shooters like Gradius and Xenon II then this is an almost essential purchase. However this is a relic of a bygone age and I don’t think younger gamers will enjoy the R-Type Dimensions half as much.

    If you enjoyed the remix of Pac-Man and the re-release of all the Capcom Arcade games out there, then you’re going to love what IREM and Tozai Games did with R-Type Dimensions. Sure it’s going to be tough as freaking nails, but that’s how arcade games were during the arcade era — and you’re going to love every moment of it.

    If you have any fondness for the series, or if you're just looking for a solid side-scrolling shooter that's about as hard as can be, R-Type Dimensions faithfully re-creates the original experience and before long you'll be wondering why you did this to yourself.
