Off road racer that's not particularly nice to look at with so many competitors and obstacles that success is as much down to luck as skill and constant, often unavoidable crashes which soon become rather tedious. It's not terrible, but there are much better racing games on the PS3.

the visual effects of dust and mud on the car are perfect not to mention the destruction of the cars which is super satisfying to watch, the only downside is the less than enjoyable gameplay. The only problem with this game is the low amount of scenery, which makes the game repetitive after a while!

Solid fun but overstays its welcome by forcing you to repeat the same tracks over and over and over again, without much in terms of rewards other than a new vehicle occasionally, this coupled with some heavy A.I rubberbanding.

Motorstorm is a fun and chaotic racing game. It has stunning visuals, great soundtrack, and satisfying crash physics.

As Xbox Fan, I love this PS Exclusive than any other exclusive games like Last of Us, God of War, etc. I got this back in a launch when I got my Xbox and PS3, it was a good game that plays this Racing game.

Fantastic Game. Lots of cars, 7 tracks with unique chracteristics. Very fun and chaotic, especially in Sidewinder Gulch.

The greatest car videogame (only 8 because car videogames sucks).
There are so many ways to the end of a race.
All the cars have a really good design, and they are a lot!
    That makes motorstorm really funny.

PRESENTATION: graphics are amazing for 2006. And so are the physics: very satisfying to bump around and tear up the mud. BUT the framerate can be very bad, far below 30fps at busy times. And the brown stages all kinda look the same. Even worse is that some rocks are literally hard to see because everything is a shade of brown. Not a fan of the music.

GAMEPLAY: all these different vehicles, and all the different routes on the tracks is a big part of the fun here. Along with the physics and arcade gameplay makes for a nice mix of realism and arcade. There are a few ramps that have wonky physics and make you crash, which can be frustrating.

I would give it an 8/10, but there is one glaring issue: crazy rubber-banding AI at higher difficulties. Not only is the AI *insanely* aggressive (literally every lap someone suicides to knock you off), but they are also laughably fast when you are ahead of them. It's a joke, at full-boost, big rigs overtaking you left and right without boosting. Furthermore, the content is a bit bare bones. Online and Time trial would've been fun, but I'm playing this when the servers are down, so reviewing it as such. Still, it's a fun game for a few bucks and I don't regret it 7/10

    - No online play! The servers for online are completely disconnected. Even the developers realised their failure.
    - Horrible soundtrack in general. Good music, yes. But horrible for the video game itself.
    - Excessive loading times when selecting your vehicle.
    - It matters not what sub-genre of a vehicle you pick, for all bikes have the same stats, all buggys have the same stats, etc
    - No cosmetic customisation for the vehicles you drive. Instead, the player chooses between a set of 2 to 4 cosmetic choices, which overall seems pointless.
    - Excessive loading screens to begin a race.
    - Game hints that ripoff jokes and quotes from other films and movies in hops of being cleverly helpful, when in reality it's annoying and sometimes insults the player.
    - The hidden "catch-up" rule is too strong. So strong that you can be in last place at the start of the final lap with a 10 second tailgate behind the next place car, and still come out in first.
    - Despite the multiple pathways a player can pick while racing; they're all designed for a particular vehicle to drive down, while penalising the rest. This completely kills any variety the player may have had outside of cosmetics.
    - The developers thought it was a good idea to have players drive the same maps over and over again with no gameplay variation other than the vehicle that you use.
    - Broken AI: Sometimes, they just come to a complete stop for no reason! Other times, they will drive right off the road to the point where it looks intentional.
    - Picking a Big Rig, and then ramming every other rival off the road is fun. So why is this being listed as con? Cause it's the only fun to be had with this game.
    - No replay value.

    PROS
    - None.

**** this game! Don't buy MotorStorm! Not only is it the worst racing game I've ever played, it's also the worst Playstation 3 game I have ever played! Just awful!

Motorstorm: Monument Valley. Truly the world's most brutal off-road racing game, and possibly one of the best off-road racing games of our generation.

Graphics are not the strong point of this game, but gameplay is. All vehicles are well designed as-well as the tracks.

Great racing game of 2007, and it's still fun now. I remember when the online servers were still up, I would have a blast online. Shame the servers are gone now, (hence the 7). But the singleplayer is still worth your time. It's quite lengthy too. Buy this game it's really cheap now. Plus, you still have tracks as DLC which are still on the PS Store, and for a low price.

It looks great and seems fun, but there's not much fun to be had. This kind of racing game would benefit a lot if there could be damage to the cars like in flatout but there's none off that. Becaue of all the different kind off cars there's not much interactivitivy with other players, which is a pity for a game like this.

The Bad: I found the heavier vehicles to be considerably better. The bike and other lightweights are just all over the place. The game's overall design is pretty old school. The different class of vehicles handle drastically different but the vehicles within the class are the same; you are just picking for the looks. Professional reviews say that they love the handling. I did not. I could not get used to the learning curve even after two hours. There are only a few levels. There is no sense of accomplishment like upgrades or anything. This game feels like an arcade game you'd find in a restaurant. Not even a patch for trophies which would provide a little bit of accomplishment. It's fun for a few hours, but then gets boring and repetitive pretty quickly. You can pick this game up used for $2 at Gamestop. For that price, there is no reason not to get it if you are relatively into racing/atv/rally type games.

  1. Motorstorm is pretty much the best off-road driving simulation ever to grace a console. The physics are so accurate, yet altered for arcade like effect, and feel so right that the development team must have had at least a couple Physics PhD’s on staff to pull off such a feat. [JPN Import]
  2. One of Motorstorm's big successes is that it demands of you things that other racers don't even bother to ask. You'll have to learn every nook and cranny of the terrain before you can drive around courses with confidence. [JPN Import]
