The tracks that they had was for the most part to me not as interesting as apocalypse (dynamic courses), but it is very open with different routes to the finish ( a major plus); and all routes for the most part having it's own personality. The only thing I don't understand (I stick with single player for racing games) was why were the same tracks (about 16 I think) recycled over and over in the SP campaign? Don't get me wrong the tracks they did have were amazing and I get it, you use different class of vehicles which forces you to use different routes during a single track; but it doesn't make it less stale the third time through the same track. The unlockables were nice, but were just cosmetics, another bummer. Aside from my one MAJOR complaint, I still think this game was fun and adrenaline packed, a great arcade racer; just not as good as apocalypse imo. Expand

The best racing game on PS3, 40 electronic music tracks, very intuitive transports' classes, driving balanced between arcade'ish and realistic, just enough to be engaged, but not to suffer too much. Highly recommended even for those, who is not into racing games

Save datas corrupt easily, and some of the textures are simply abysmal. What strikes me most about this pathetic "racing game" (if you can call it that) is how shocking the driving physics (or lack of) are compared to other games in the genre. The understeer is severe, making the game unplayable. Controls are generally unresponsive and unless you use the bike everything handles like a brick. There is little skill in this game, it's all about picking the fastest route for your vehicle because the game's mechanics are so basic there is little room for perfection. All you can do is boost, accelerate, brake and handbrake. Even the most arcade racers manage to implement some sort of skill but Motorstorm is neither skillful nor appealing to either casual gamers or hardcore racing fans like myself. This is mostly due to the fact that the flow of the action and intensity of going fast over rough terrain is broken up by constant crashing. This is brought about by the highly insensitive steering and the amount of clutter in your way on cirtually any path you choose. Most people would probably start off picking a rally car because it's something they feel most familiar with, but unrealistically the rally car has amongst the worst handling even though it should be one of the sharpest vehicles due to its stiff suspension. Overall there's nothing to credit this game for other than its frankly pathetic attempt at making a racing game which involves different types of vehicles over less bland scenery. Soundtrack is deafening and the almost non-existent driving physics coupled with the WORST CONTROLS I'VE EVER COME ACROSS IN A RACING GAME make it unplayable. You really have to have no standards whatsoever to even consider rating this a good game. If you've played a racing game before, no matter how bad it was, you won't find one worse than this. Expand

Mint racing game that really gives you a challenge, none of that "hit the perfect apex" stuff. every lap feels like a brawl. MSPR is the automotive equivalent of a cage fight, which is probably why most fans of racing sims arent raving about it. It just needs a few months of development and fresh DLC to be perfect. To sum i think this is the greatest arcade racer since burnout 2

Being a fan of the first Motorstorm, i gotta admit that the excitement was building for the sequel...and after playing the demo, i'm sold this is a purchase for me. The first Motorstorm was a highly under-rated racer, but initial impressions aside revealed a rather deep, exciting game....kinda like the BURNOUT series, just off-road. I think Motorstorm turned some people off because of its difficulty, at first glance this looks like your standard arcadey racer....and it is, but the physcis of your vehicle on the terrain are spot-on. EVERY bump and imperfection on the track affects your handling and even the slightest of mis-calculations can send you flying into the air in a ball of fire.....some scoffed at this sense of realism and difficulty, i found it to be quite challenging and in this game....when you cross the finish line, you really FEEL like you accomplished something, because of all the wrecks and battling with aggressive A.I. opponents you must deal with, just makes the WIN all the more awesome. the demo only covered one track, but it was a beauty....very green, lush, and lively.....a nice change from the desert locales of the first. graphically, I'd say its a slight upgrade to a already great looking game....so it gets no major points for that, but it loses none either....excellent looking game. sound is as good as always, sound effects are crisp and the sound of grinding exploding metal are ever-present. gameplay, spot-on....just like its predecessor, which I'm sure some won't dig just like they didn't dig it in the first one.....hopefully there is a "rookie" or "amateur" difficulty setting....to appease those who are still learning to walk. overall, great game....and i cant wait to try the FULL product. The addition of the attack buttons and monster trucks vamps it up even more. More tracks, more songs, crazier gameplay and even better graphics makes Motorstorm Pacific Rift a perfect example of what a sequel SHOULD be. The single player mode is very well-done with new game modes and a rank system that make it easier to keep track of your progress and unlock vehicles. As in the previous game, the multiplayer is well made and enjoyable. There is one major problem with Pacific Rift. The singleplayer mode, used to unlock vehicles and of course trophies, can be insanely frustrating. A single crash can set you back all the way to last place, and since the majority of the single player races are only two laps, it can be very stressful trying to claw your way back up to the front of the pack only to snag 3rd and receive only 50 rank points. The chaos is awesome, but when you've got your heart set on 1st place, it can get in the way of your goal, and the AI opponents aren't afraid of using their attack buttons, either. Overall, a beautiful game with some truly pulse-pounding gameplay, online and off, though the offline mode can be quite frustrating at times. Expand

That said, the game still offers a glut of breakneck, crazy fun; punching riders off motorcycles, crushing buggies under the wheels of a monster truck, nudging other racers off the cliffs... Great stuff! The local multiplayer is also unbelievably good and playing split-screen with friends is an endless riot. Get a few players together who know their way around the game and... Oh yeah, it's party time! The graphics are also worth a mention in the 'That's Awesome' department too. Motorstorm is truly one of the best looking games on PS3. There isn't much to say about Pacific Rift in the negative, in fact the only things that spring to mind are; A: the overbearing soundtrack (just turn the volume down in the options). B: The minimalistic bare-bones online racing (a more pertinent and disappointing problem). But these problems in no way ruin the fun that Motorstorm delivers. Expand

Im way late on this game, but I LOVE it. I think the racing is great, graphics are wonderful, music is good, online play is a blast, and overall the whole game is excellent. I'm not sure why there are the negative reviews about graphics. To me the game has MANY hours of play before it becomes boring in the least. It isn't focused about immersing the player into car make-up etc, ratherIm way late on this game, but I LOVE it. Really enjoy the game and wish there were more that were similar to it. Expand

Featuring an impressive physics engine, a tantalizingly wild and dangerous environment, and an EXTREMELY off-road racing style, this game taps into the primal thrill of guzzling gasoline while risking life and limb at every turn.

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift is a very fun, challenging and badass arcade racer from Evolution Studios. It improves on pretty much everything from the original. The best in the series.

i am not much of a story mode guy (in this case its called a festival), so i dont really like it. but the free play is just awesome. if u're really angry, u take a bike or an ATV put up a bunch more as opponents, and punch them. this game rocks

I played Pacific Rift after finishing M Apocalypse, and to my surprise I am enjoying over Pacific!
Pacific Rift is far more beautiful graphically that apocalypse, the scenery is beautiful, the vehicles seem to be much more detailed than those of m Apocalypse, the gameplay is also more natural and fun conclusion: Pacific Rift, despite being older, is much better than Motorstorm Apocalypse

Nice sceneries and okay handling. Very enjoyable with friends especially when launchig of a cliff in a high speed motorcycle, bumping each other mid air. Not the best story and the translation of some things could be a lot better, but still, a decent arcade racer.

If you own a PS3 and you like 'rough' racing you simply need to get this. The locations are exhilarating. The racing is exciting. Easily one of the best. To me, Pacific Rift was more exciting than the original Motorstorm.

Unlike the first game, which takes place in Monument vally's desert setting, this one takes place on a tropical island full of vegitation, lava, and water.

There are 8 vehicle classess to choose from, each with their own strenghts and weaknesses. For example, Bikes are quick to accelerate, and have great manurverability, while the heavy vehicles like the big rigs are slow to gain speed, but due to their massive size and weight, are almost impossible to stop and take down once they get moving. ALMOST.

The only real thing that is keeping me from giving this game a 10/10, is that the vehicles in this game tend to slide around a bit to much, almost like they are on ice sometimes. Because of this, sometimes the vehicles can feel somewhat weightless.

If you have a ps3, I highly recomend getting this game.

One of the greatest racing games of ps3/xbox360 era.
A lot of cars, a lot of tracks, a lot of fun and a very good gameplay!
Hope one day a new one not exclusive to Sony, cause Sony is a bad company.

An improvement over the original thanks to tweaks to the graphics and handling which make it more fun to play. But it's still too reliant on luck over skill and it's nowhere near as good as the Dirt games.

A worthy follow-up to one of the PS3's early must-have titles. It fixes a lot of the outstanding issues from last time out, including offering many more tracks, and the course designs are fantastic. The vehicle mixes are sweet, and there are a ton of events to take on.

It's the multiplayer that perhaps been given the most love since the last game.

The core racing experience makes the misstep of celebrating failure rather than making the actual winning of races definable fun. [Dec 2008, p.90]
