Adding all the dlc to an already brilliant game, grab it if you haven't got a copy. Everything you loved about the MK series is carried on in a brilliant follow on to the series

Mortal Kombat in its original version is something extraordinary, and I honestly can not give this Edition Komplete a note lower than the original is given, although disapprove Complete Editions generally prejudiced by the buyers of the game on day 1.
Assi, this conyinua to be a great game and highly recommended.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am going through a couple of games I have played in recent weeks, and found that I am being too nice and giving them all "10" ratings. The thing with Mortal Kombat is, the last one that deserved a 10 was the very first one. The rest of them usually had something to really turn you off. With the Komplete Edition, you get Freddy Krueger. I love those awful Nightmare movies, so it was a perfect fit. There are few things to dislike with this game, and Freddy Krueger was one of them. And it was a problem because I couldn't select Freddy right away. I had to learn how to navigate the fighter selection menu in order to do so. That is actually the only thing I didn't like. It was not as plug-in-and-play as I had thought. Just that ONE thing, though. The rest of the game gives you everything you'd want in a TRUE Mortal Kombat game. Excessive gore. Questionable fatalities. Question in that, you ask yourself while playing, "Was it really necessary to show that? To be THAT detailed?" NO! That's what makes it so great. The first MK posed the same questions. I actually had to lie to my mom about owning it. She wouldn't buy it for me, even though I had saved the money for it. I ended up buying something else and trading for it. You also had to get the infamous "Blood Code" from friends at school. That's how I felt this time around. I felt like I was hiding this terribly gory, mean-spirited contest of a game from my mom. I felt again like it was 1992-1993, and I was having to ask around for the blood code. There was a culture, an underground one, with the original MK. The newest version gives that same feel. It's a bad game. It's naughty. It's a bad game to show impressionable youths. That's why it's the best one since the first one. I've already said that a couple of times now. You have to know, however. You have to. This game makes even the dullest of the storied MK lineup exciting. New life is given to the Good and the Bad characters. The boring, stupid filler characters that really removed the dynamics of the MK sequels are actually really, really cool in this version. I hate Mileena. I always have. Now, I like her. Her moves are incredible. Her fatality is a horror movie. And so is every other one. I even almost found myself liking Striker, who is the lamest and dullest of all of the MK characters past or present. Even he kind of gets you going, "Hey, he's not so bad. I'm gonna pick him". This is the nature of the game. The menu is amazing. You already feel like you're knee deep in MK gore and living in fear of the next match before you even start the game. Loading times are minimal. Backgrounds are beautiful, nightmarish, cinematic even. The characters all give you a feel that they are worthy opponents, and that they may have earned their place in the tournament the same as the obvious ones like Liu Kang or Scorpion himself. That is a rare thing to have in MK. The moves are incredibly seamless. You don't have to sit there and study them like an exam just to get through one whole match. If you remember even a couple of moves, you'll get the rest. Easy package to get into. You play this game and you feel like you never left the first one. You just got an impressive clean-up and HD treatment. It's so wonderful. It's so great. Could it be that all that Warner Brothers money made its way to Tobias Boon and his pals(Noob Saibot.....? Tobias Boon? Hmmm......), allowing them, finally, to make a true and worthy heir apparent to the fighting game that changed all games, fighting or not? Yes! If you don't believe me, go play MK 4. Then think it over. Please, buy this game. Play it with friends. Beat it. You'll wanna keep going and going. I did. Which reminds me, the Shao Khan/Kahn fight is top notch. Fun, really hard(when he isn't stopping to gloat, pride-before-the-fall style), and gives you a great end cinema with storybook ending for each character that really brings the replay value of this game to astronomical levels. A gamer will love this game. A casually playing casual gamer with love this game. A fighting game fan will love this game. But, a Mortal Kombat fan will feel like they've been reunited with a long lost love. A love that we've been trying to replace with every fighting game since. Well, Peggy Sue Got Married. To Me. For casuals or traditional kombatants, no one could go wrong with it, it's the best in the franchise.

Pros? Enough single player and multiplayer content to maintain a gamer's attention span for longer than anticipated; one of the most cinematic story modes ever introduced into a fighting game; challenge tower has 300 challenges that'll have you up all night; excellent arcade mode with character endings; excellent controls; excellent implementation of X-Ray moves, which make the game even more bloody fun; excellent implementation of tag team fighting; excellent training mode; GOREgous graphics and blood and gore galore; excellent online experience, featuring lobbies and King of the Hill; variety of characters from the original trilogy have had a makeover and are all unique; Test Your Might, Strike, and especially Luck are addictive; can't go wrong with DLC.

Cons? Distribution of unlockables; the Krypt could offer more than just primarily art; minor balancing issues, some characters are overpowered; minor cheap A.I., specifically Shao Kahn; minor online lags; the story mode has some corny dialogue and voice acting.

Story: I really don't know how to describe MK9's plot, but i'll try to do my best. Shao kahn has finally killed all the MK fighters and raiden is the only one left, after losing to Shao kahn, the raiden from the future sends his memories to the raiden of the past to warn him of what will happen in the future, so eventually raiden teams up with some of the other MK characters to prevent, pretty much armageddon. That's the story, nothing special but very entreteining for me.

Presentation: Wow this game is great looking, MK9 doesn't fall into the trap of sacrificing a color palette, just for the sake of being realistic (looking at you gear of war), everything has color and the models, animations and backgrounds all look great and nice on the eyes. The music fit perfectly with every situation and the blood is ALL OVER THE PLACE. The fatalities look great and every little detail like the fact that the clothes of the characters brake after intense fighting make this presentation a joy to experience.

Gameplay: MORTAL KOMBAT!!!. The mechanics are very well thought and fun to use, you can use your usual punches and kicks, you can block, you can do special moves with a combination of commands and the new addition to your arsenal, the x-rays, can be trigger to do 30-40% damage and when you the broken bones of your enemy, it feels gooooooood :). The mechanics that this game has are very similar (to not say nearly identical) to MK vs DC Universe, however here they are more fleshed-out and fun. We also have some different modes like the story mode ,Kombat Mode, Challenge mode, Training mode, Extras and Online mode (which no longer works) all of the modes are pretty self explanatory, but extras does have a interesting mode which is the kript mode, where you spend the games cash that you get in other modes to unlock concept art, fatalities, skins etc. Kombat mode actually has some other modes inside, first is Tournament mode, where yo chose a fighter, choose a difficulty and go through various kombat's until you get to Shao kahn, Tournament with teams is the same thing, but this time is 2 vs 2. To be honest story mode, training, the kript, online, and tournament is all i played so i can't comment on the other "kombat modes", but they seem very interesting and fun.

Overall MK9 is a fantastic game, with great presentation, story and gameplay, i can't recommend it enough and keep in mind this is coming from a guy that usually hates fighting games. If you are going to get it, i say get the ps3 version since it has an exclusive character...KRATOS!!!. With that said i'll give the game a 9/10 did i mentioned that the roster of characters is also very big?

Recomendo!!!

This is by far the best Mortal Kombat game yet. While some of the older and newer titles have had some better features here and there, this one is more straight to the point. While it lacks some extra content, it makes up for in the gameplay.

One of the best PS3-Games ever. In my opinion there is no other Beat-’Em-Up-Game that can reach the level of this Mortal Kombat. The 2vs2-Mode is perfect in every way.

As an old school fan of the original trilogy, I hold them in high regard, especially Mortal Kombat II. For all these years and up until recently, I have long considered MK2 to be the best, but after playing MK11 recently and spiraling into depression due to the online requirements and demotivational grinding, I had to come back and re-evaluate my love for the franchise. And I have come to the conclusion that this game is indeed the best Mortal Kombat ever made. As MK is my favorite franchise of all time, this is, for me, the greatest game ever made and my all-time favorite. If I had to choose one game to play forever, this would be my immediate answer. I own the Komplete Edition on every possible platform: Steam, PS3, Xbox 360, and PS Vita, and I love them all. I will leave a review for each version, because they are basically the same game, but will add a distinct paragraph at the end for each.

Where to start? I'll divide my praises into sub-sections:

Graphics: Gorgeous, mind-blowing. This was my first high definition experience, the first time I bought a modern console and hooked it up to a flat-panel via HDMI. I was blown away. And the visuals still hold up, because 720p cannot be retroactively demoted from being high def, because it is and it shows. The stages are so detailed, the character models are so cool, the damage is so deliciously bloody, the fatalities look so awesome, it's just top-notch stuff all-around.

Story: Excellent. I mean, it goes from the whole Shang Tsung Island original tournament to the golden-age of MK2, then all the way to MK3's invasion of Earthrealm... it's just so darn good. The atmosphere is there to match as the story goes along. And nearly everyone is here and part of it too. I cannot fault it and I think they rebooted it very nicely. The only thing I don't like and continue not to like is the whole "revenant" schtick. I'm sick of hearing, I'm sick of seeing it, it's dumb and it must stop. Unfortunately, it started here - but because it was new, it was okay. Should have stopped with MKX though, but nope, all the way to MK11's main storyline to the point of being the default of many characters. Kill it, please. But back to MK9, this is the most enjoyable story mode ever of them all, bar none.

Roster: Man, isn't this the best part. Unlike every other post-MK2 entry without exception, this is the ONLY Mortal Kombat that I can move the cursor through the whole roster and not find a character I hate. No Jacqui. No Bo Rai Cho. No Hsu Hao. No Kung Jin. Kombat kids are nowhere to be found. The game is so awesome that they even managed to do the impossible, and make Stryker a cool, relatable, and likable character. And the classic outfits, wow! The ninjas look fantastic, it's amazing. Everything is just done right here. God, I really love this game, so much!

Gameplay: This is gold. Fast-paced. Combo opportunities everywhere. There's depth, you can actually get a character, study its moves and combos and just get very good at it. Watching the pros playing this game is like watching an artist painting a masterpiece, it's beautiful and exciting.

Sound: I prefer the older Asian atmosphere that Dan Forden so beautifully crafted, it just built this awesomely dark atmosphere that reminds you of older kung-fu movies that were lacking past the two first entries. But even MK3 had memorable tunes. While it's not bad, it's somewhat forgettable and just overall meh. But then recently I was choosing stages and pressed start on one of them. Then I heard Shao Kahn laughing. I was like, huh, something is going on here. Turns out to be a little hidden feature: if the stage is a classic MK stage, it will then play the original retro music in battle. I was so excited, this game delivers!!!

Single-player: No grinding here and no stupid online requirements! The tower challenges are so awesome! How about test your luck, huh? I can play that for hours, so much fun! Not to mention test your sight, test your might, I mean, it's just Mortal Kombat Perfection here. Arcade ladder is a classic, just great. My only minor gripe here is with the bosses having the invincibility shield sometimes, it felt like an artificial difficulty increase to me, an afterthought. Challenge 300, Endgame, is legendary.

In conclusion, if there is a game that would get a 10 out of 10 from me, this is it. This game single-handedly brought me back into gaming altogether.

PS Vita specific: The people complaining about the graphics remind me of the current folks who buy MK11 on the Switch and don't understand that it needs to be toned down to run smoothly. MK9 on the Vita is, like MK11 on the Switch, a technological marvel, a sweet treat. Except much better here, as this is a much better game than MK11. Do yourself a favor if you have a Vita and like MK and get this game!

We can safely say that this is one of the best parts in the entire MK series. The 9th part is revolutionary in its way in the MK series. It has top guest characters. Modes are not bad. And in short and clear - this is Mortal Kombat.

The re-release is just as strong as the original. They jammed the disc full of everything and even chipped in some extras. Even the thing they omitted (the online pass) is a plus. It's just up to you whether it's worth the door charge.
