    Excellent original IP role-playing game. I played this a ton back when it was released, and after playing it again just recently, I believe this is the non-MMO RPG I've replayed the most times in my life. It's just that fun. The gameplay is a very engaging mix of exploration, dungeon-crawling, tactical combat, dialogue, and RPG choices. The story is epic and the lore is interesting.Excellent original IP role-playing game.     On the downside, although the combat starts off quite challenging, it becomes easy to cheese about a third of the way through the game. I believe this is just an unavoidable drawback of RPGs with open-ended character advancement systems like Elder Scrolls and Dragon Age. They did a good job of porting this to consoles, but it's still a bit kludgy using a controller to move party members around and target enemies. Inventory management is a hassle, and locating and reading codex entries is terrible.    … Expand

    This is literally the best Western Fantasy Game after World of Warcraft. Better then Elder Scrolls, 100%.

    I know many people rate this game as excellent or must play game, bot for me its quite chaotic and in the end also boring.
    Campaign is too long, you can play its for 60 hours and this game will be still unfinished.
    The journal does not distinguish which quest is the main and which the side. So if you accept big amount of quest it will become very fast chaotic. I missed more actions,    I know many people rate this game as excellent or must play game, bot for me its quite chaotic and in the end also boring.

    DA:Origins is lagging behind today's standards, but its 2009 game so we cant compare it to modern RPGs, however back in the day, this game had to be a big deal. It contains lot of lore, decent story, lot of races and factions. Enormous amount of achievements to unlock.

    You have the ability to choose your own origin story, which not only makes the first few hours of the game unique, but different origins have different relationships to the overarching narrative and sub-plots, and furthermore, every decision you make truly feels like it has an impact - you can secure the best ending for a minor NPC, kill everyone in your path, and even have an orgy with your companions.

    Speaking of companions, Dragon Age: Origins has a great cast of characters, many of which are entirely optional for you to recruit, and many of which can also die by your own hand. The best thing about these companions is that they are their own characters, if you make a decision that goes against their beliefs, they will turn on you.

    Another thing Origins does well, which its successors fail to do, is to create an immersive world full of live. The game features many destinations from the underground kingdom of the Dwarves, to the forests the Elves reside in. The world is large but is not simply littered by empty space, it is filled with unique enemies, narratives, characters and lore to explore.

    One of the less praiseworthy elements of Origins is that it follows the cliche "chosen one" trope, yet still achieves to make it an enjoyable experience, even if you have seen it time and again. The darker aspects of Origin's narrative is what sets it apart from its successors, highlighting themes of sexism, racism, and classism that many modern games shy away from portraying, and as your own protagonist can be at the receiving end of these issues, it makes for a more personable experience that helps you gain empathy for the people who suffer from such injustices in reality.

    The reason I did not give Origins a 10, or even a 9 is for two reasons:

    1) The combat, while adored by many, is not the immersive experience in this game, especially so on a PlayStation 3 where you are more limited with what abilities you can quickly use. Overall the combat feels sluggish and lacks depth in some areas, though makes up for it with depth in other areas.

    2) The primary reason i cannot give the PlayStation 3 version of Origins a higher score is because the game is filled with a plethora of bugs - from crashing, graphical glitches and quest progression bugs, to conflict with DLC to the point where some characters do not appear where they should.

    Overall, I highly recommend anyone who can, to play Dragon Age: Origins at least once fully, but if you can, I highly suggest playing on a PC over a PS3.    … Expand

    Dusted off my ps3 to buy this on the playstation store for 10 quid.

    Great game. Graphics are dated and facial features look pretty bad at some points but other than that its such a great game and still holds up today in terms of story and mechanics.

    While Dragon Age Origins even for a game released in 2009 looked average at best, it is undoubtedly one of the best RPG's ever made. Several branching paths, alongside several character classes and builds. And a great supporting cast of characters. Dragon Age Origins is n incredible journey.

    One of my favorite RPGs. Your decisions were truly impactful and the story was very good, the characters were all compelling and the gameplay and world was overall very fun.

    I first played Dragon Age Inquisition and I think Origins is as good as Inquisition or even better. Although, obviously, the graphics are worse it's still a great game with many dialogues and good voices, gameplay and soundtrack. In my opinion, the worse of this game is that you have to wait a bit everytime you go inside or go out of some buildings and areas. It took me 50 hours to beatI first played Dragon Age Inquisition and I think Origins is as good as Inquisition or even better. Although, obviously, the graphics are worse it's still a great game with many dialogues and good voices, gameplay and soundtrack. In my opinion, the worse of this game is that you have to wait a bit everytime you go inside or go out of some buildings and areas. It took me 50 hours to beat exploring everything and doing as many sidequests I could although I left lots of them as well; so if you go straight to the main plot you can beat it in about 10 hours less.… Expand

There are six origins to play through, my favorite was the Human Noble (as a Rogue). There is a lot of replay if you want to see everything, as you must pick a side for each quest. Combat is typical for a    5 out of 5.

    Very few RPG's actually have that good story or interesting characters, this has the traditional tactical combat + the good story and characters.

    Only drawback see to this game is that if you only want the story and not the combat, then its hard to stick with it as these type of games require bit of time since combat takes awhile.     So this game is hard to play in 20-30min bits you generally need to take a weekend and sink into it and boy are you rewarded if you do.

    Cant actually think of a single game that does the same thing as this as good this is the absolute best at what it does, just be aware this is a time consuming game.
    If you dont have enough time there might be better games to play in short 20min bits

    Slightly better on the PC but i mean this is not a twitch game so controls being just a little bit clunkier isnt as important as say a action game or racing game this is turnbased.    … Expand

    There’s potentially 6 different stories to be told in this game…
    I played the console version of this game, so it’s much more action oriented than strategy based.
    You can journey with 4 allies at a time to help you fight enemies and you can gain new allies along your journey,
    How you treat your allies and the people in the world around you will determine if they turn their back on you or help you with your cause.
    Your allies do a fairly decent job at holding their own... they only got stuck one time in my entire playthrough.
    You can equip gear you find on them much like a JRPG, there is tons of micro managing your ally’s skills as well as yours,
    Dragon Age Origins is lengthy, but not lengthy because there is so much great content to experience...
    The game is long just for the sake of being long... it accomplishes nothing in dragging the story on forever and makes you do more than you should really have to…
    The entire game feels like one giant goose chase.
    After your origins story the map opens up and you can freely clear it in any order you choose,
    The incentive to doing so is there is a blight... demons… an army... you need allies, so you set out into the vast sections to gain those allies...
    Each section of the map could literally be their own game… and not necessarily in a good way.
    They all have their own self-contained stories that link to the overarching story, but every single one of them follow the formula of the main story, which is you think you’re done but you’re not
    you get to whoever you’re looking for but they need you to do this before they’ll help you but when you get there to do what they need there’s someone there that needs you to help them before they can help you help the person that you need to help before they’ll help you..
    Its overwhelming and ultimately makes the game feel like it drags on forever
    and quite frankly it does... you never feel like you are making any true progress…
    It took me 10 hours of playing before the game got even a little bit interesting to me.
    There are some really cool sections to this game, again they all feel like they could be their own game...
    It’s crazy to look back when you’re near the end and think of the journey you’ve been on and how it was indeed part of this game and not some game you played years ago even though it feels like it.
    There’s mages, demons, going through the fade and shape shifting, hunting werewolves down in the forest, going underground to search for a mighty anvil
    There is so much to experience.
    While Dragon Age’s game world is vast and deep, I found the gameplay and journey to be shallow and tedious.
    Due to the delivery of the story, and the constant webbing of story lines I found Dragon Age Origins to eventually feel more like a chore than a game,
    After about 30 hours in I was begging for the game to be over, to get to the point, but instead it drug me down another 20 hours of rabbit holes.
    If the rabbit holes don’t make the game feel tedious enough, it also does a horrible job at quest progression in general...
    You rarely know where you’re supposed to go,
    The marker for the quest you’re on only appears when you’re close to the desired location…
    and by close, I mean practically on top of it…
    Which will lead you right to google to figure out where this person lives since who’s going to really memorize the locations of these people by name?
    I’m not
    There’s a Lot to do in Dragon Age Origins, so I can definitely see why people love this game so much…
    Even I appreciate the game for what it has going on...
    There was just ultimately nothing here to hook me in...
    If I didn’t feel obligated to make it to the credits, I definitely wouldn’t have

    It's a great RPG! Great soundtrack, good story, good gameplay, great characters and the graphics that aren't that bad. I totally recommend this game. It's, indeed, one of the best RPGs of the millennium. 8/10

    When I finished my first play-through in this I immediately started another play-through, now that's replayability done right in video games. I love the writing and the characters in this game.

    I love this game. I have played it 9 times now, and each time i discover something new (even if its only a new conversation line with party members). The graphics are great, and the world has a rich and detailed history. I also love the origin stories. It is nice to have more input into who your character was, before the 'Epic' events. I hope bioware makes another 'Origins' style game. II love this game. The plotline is well structured and the ability to play as one of your 4 member squad is unique, but the problems of the game start to show after 5 hours.

    Combat is merely targeting an enemy, pushing a    Dragon Age: Origins feels like a good RPG, but is ultimately let down by it's map traversal and graphics. Too much time is spent on dialogue and sifting through the shop and item menus. The plotline is well structured and the ability to play as one of your 4 member squad is unique, but the problems of the game start to show after 5 hours.

    Combat is merely targeting an enemy, pushing a button and listening to your characters respond with "It will be done". This soon boils down to mashing different buttons and selectively targeting an enemy with all your characters to accumulate damage points to overwhelm them. The level of satisfaction surrounding this begins to eventually wane as you progress.

    Dialogue with NPC's is another point of criticism. Your character is a consummate mute when speaking with NPC's, but in combat says "It will be done" which creates a jarring element to communication in the game.The story while lengthy and interesting, is made dull by it's characters whose emotional reactions are sometimes questionable or pathetic.

    Overall, Dragon Age: Origins is more of a character driven game that should mainly appeal to RPG fans who don't mind divulging in strategic button pressing than full-fledged action.    … Expand

    A great RPG and one of the best in the genre. Once again the negative user 'reviews' are ridiculous and make no sense as this is a clear 8/10 game at least.

    Good - The story really is top class making for an immersive experience. Voice acting is very good, especially amongst the companion characters and surpasses most other games in this respect. The world and setting itself is alos superb with just the right blend of medieval and fantasy feel. A great element is the different prologues for each race and class the player can choose; this really does make each one feel very different and add replay value.Combat works fairly well and is quite similar to the KOTOR games; the blood spatter is also a nice touch and makes long battles feel more epic.

    Bad - The graphics are pretty poor which doesn't take much away from the game but is a shame. The character creator is one of the worst in any game I have played with very few options. This also reflects on the npcs which seem to be pulled from about only a dozen models. The game isn't truly open world like Skyrim and for a game of its type can sometimes feel very linear. Not nearly enough armor sets with only about 3 or 4 different types and the rest just reskins.

    Verdict - Think KOTOR but with a fantasy setting. An excellent RPG that can be played for hundreds of hours with replays. If you love games like Skyrim, KOTOR, Mass Effect or just RPG's in general you will love this game. 8/10.    … Expand

    First off, this game isn't for dummies. If you came here expecting to find easy & casual play, requiring no thought process whatsoever, your gonna die a lot! Not only is this an RPG game,    I am The Destroyer. I will break games, complain about the littlest detail, and tell you whether or not the game is worth buying. A lot of things to say here, but can't due to the 5000 character limit.

    First off, this game isn't for dummies. If you came here expecting to find easy & casual play, requiring no thought process whatsoever, your gonna die a lot! Not only is this an RPG game, it's also about Tactics, and Survival. Survival because you can permanently screw yourself by leveling up the wrong way, saving your game in a bad location, choosing dialogue options that can get your party members killed, or running out of healing items to deal with tough bosses. This game will show no mercy if you take it easy at any time.

    1. Story
    The darkspawn are upon us! It is up to the Gray Wardens to slay thy enemy so that Ferelden may rest peacefully once again. How your story begins varies on the race you pick, and the class you chose to play as. How the story unfolds lies solely in the dialogue options you input. From righteous hero to a$$hole renegade, one thing is clear -- The archdemon must be exterminated. Now prepare yourself to journey a world of fantasy where chaos rules, and hope for survival continues to diminish every day.

    2. Voice Acting
    Your party members are the only ones believable, which is a good thing considering you'll be with them the entire game. The rest of the side character show lack of enthusiasm overall, especially King Cailan.

    3. Graphics and Visuals
    The graphics and animations are beautiful to look at. It's so easy to fall under a trance of this fantasy-like world when you take a look around. Every now and then though, you'll notice the odd pallets that haven't loaded when cut-scenes start, but it will quickly fix itself.

    4. Gameplay
    Gameplay refers to combat, customization & level up, and various areas you can explore within the game. Put it all together and it's above average!

    -Battle System-
    The game will randomly spike up difficulties to in-human levels, and it will do this multiple times throughout your playthrough. Strategy tactics will be required for winning almost all battles, and guaranteed the final boss is going to destroy you if you're new to the franchise. Battles allow up to 4 characters in your party at a time, and you must be able to control all 4 of them at once while under stress. Because of the difficulty, combat never goes stale. Enemy continues to grow as you progress, so will always be one more challenging foe after another. Any one who clears the entire game without changing the difficulty to "casual" deserves phrase.

    -Customization-
    What is likeable about the customization is that there is a lot of moves to pick from regardless of whatever class you chosen to play as. Armor changes your character costume too as you equip them. And it is possible to build any kind of class you want. However, the dysfunctional inventory menu can leave players frustrated, and you wind up spending more time in this menu than you do in actual combat or exploration.

    -Exploration-
    You'll be exploring forests, mountains, underground caverns, ancient temples, and many more. The strong enemies will also give you plenty of time for exploration since you'll be taking your time through tactics. I am so grateful that the developers didn't put in blank empty rooms like every other RPG. It feels fun to explore a library after slaying abominations, or check out a tower once these darkspawn have been removed. Other companies should take notes.

    5. Soundtrack
    It's all mood music here. It will sound beautiful at first, but because of how hard the game is, you will wind up spending 3x longer in a dungeon than you thought you would, listening to the same track for that period of time. It gets repetitive quickly.

    6. DLC
    The DLC isn't worth the money, and you'll feel compelled to buy it any way when it flashes all over your main menu. Most DLC relates to the main storyline & doesn't feel like a spin-off, which in-turn further improves the experience. But even then it just feels like it was added to give players an item boost. For these reasons, I cannot give a recommendation as to whether or not you should buy any DLC.

    7. Bugs & Glitches
    - Casual gamers! There is hope after all! A bug exists in Origins that lets you duplicate items, allowing infinite money and health potions. Google "Exploits Origins" for more details.
    - There is a bug involving Alistair and the main storyline depending on what you do during the Landsmeet. It can't be stated in this spoiler-free review, but it hurts the game play experience.

    8. Personal Enjoyment
    The final battle is epic! It is a must-feel experience! The 60 hours you put into the game will be well worth it.

    9. Overall Verdict
    I am proud to state that this game deserves to be saved instead of destroyed. Only being held back by bugs and bad inventory organization, Dragon Age Origins gets a 9 out of 10! Frigin awesome! It is a must-buy!    … Expand

    Story:At the start you have to create your character depending of what character you create you get an origin there are 6 origins that is a small story before the real story.Now the story is the most complete story in the gaming world and all your choices matters.

    Graphics : I really like the graphics in this game it looks great.

    In my opinion the best western style RPG I have ever played. Great graphics, amazing and very indepth storyline (and dialogue) and characters, plenty of equip and spell options, decent soundtrack and effects that fits well with the game.

    The only two drawbacks of any sort is no modding in the console, and that it is fairly easy even on nightmare (you can even solo the game if you want    In my opinion the best western style RPG I have ever played.     The best rpg in many years. A fantastic main story, the most intresting and well written characters I have seen in years and a soundtrack you will remember. The story tells tales of heroism, betrayal, corruption, ignorance and love. The best thing is that you are shaping the story. You can be the Paladin of justice or play " The end justifies the means" (and many casualties). The recruitThe best rpg in many years. The story tells tales of heroism, betrayal, corruption, ignorance and love. The best thing is that you are shaping the story. You can be the Paladin of justice or play " The end justifies the means" (and many casualties). The recruit able characters have their own minds and approve / disapprove on your decisions. In one case some of your party members will fight against you until death! The weak point of the game is the graphic on PS3, it looks way better on PC. The soundtrack is a masterpiece (Main theme, in uthenera and the gray warden theme are my favourite tracks). Overall this is the most impressive game that I played since Baldurs Gate 2 and truly worth your time and money.… Expand

The graphics are good, it as a great story, a good character customazation. This game was aplauded worldwide, and yet some people have the guts to give this game a 1/10 or a 0/10. That is disonest.     This is definitely not the game for those frightened of the idea of micromanaging a game to the point where a large portion of it will be spent in a pause screen. However, as the sort of guy that has lovingly played an Infinity Engine game at least once every year for the past decade, I can think of no higher praise for this throwback than to say that Dragon Age: Origins leaves me feeling fairly confident I won't need to dig out the classics for this ritual next year.
