    DOA finally arrived to PS3! And I was not disapointed in this game. It is very enjoyable for casual fighter players like me and I think there are challenges for pro gamers as well. The story mode interesting and funny and not so difficult to win. There are a lot of game modes (offline and online) and training as well. I really like the graphics and the moves of the characters. Recommended!

    If you asked me what my favorite game of ALL time was, I would say "Dead or Alive 5". No lie! I LOVE this game. I was a huge fanatic for DoA4, and 5 I feel improves upon it in almost all ways.

    The only issue I had was at first I didn't like that there were no more cutscene story endings, but not that I've played through the "story" mode, I don't care. I like what they did there and I

    I suppose I'm weird for liking the "stories" and such from these games, because they're so out of whack and over the top and just plain weird, but for whatever reason, it just resonates with me and I love it.

    The graphics are gorgeous and the animations are fluid, which I'm very happy about.

    This is the only game that I play online and I can't get enough of it. My favorite aspect about DoA that makes it better than any other fighting games to me is that I feel like if I lose, it's my own fault, because of the triangle fighting system (rock-paper-scissors setup), you feel as though you can always do something, and if you get pummeled, then it's your own fault (although that doesn't stop me from getting enraged when I get my butt handed to me) :P Get this game... No joke! Play online and see why it's so amazing!

    What is wrong with people? I didn't by this game for **** and ass. I bought it because it has one the best fighting mechanics out there. It even has in my opinion the best tag gameplay so far. I think people are giving this a low score because of a recent fighting game that came out. This game easily deserves an 8.

    This game should be graded 8,5-9,5 out of 10 depending on your preferances. Criterias open for subjectivity:
    Fighting mechanism - This game allows for comebacks and turnarounds, and leave very few pauses for both players. Other mechanisms may rely on X hit combos and airlifting, ultimatly making it a 1-player games at 10 sec periods at the time. If you like fast paste and constant thrill, then this is something you'll like.

    Good looking characters - Both the men and women looks above average, however from eider practical, realistic or ideological view this may be viewed as a con. The fighters rarly look battle scared, even though they may turn sweaty or dirty if you put on this function, their faces will never become pummeled, bloody or utherly destroyed. There also is the aspect at practicality as some costumes would be really hard to fight in, (like a clown uniform.) and some may view strong female fighters as unrealistic. Lastly arch-conservatives may view some of the costumes to be too revealing or unethical.

I also have SF, MK, VF, SC, and T6 and all play very differently so I won't compare DOA5 as far as fighting mechanics but I will at least say that easy level is just that on DOA if you only want a fun little beat-up session compared to so-called easy on T6 where everyProbably the #1 thing about this DOA is that we PS3 owners finally FINALLY get a version after being passed over for Xbox. In short, while a game like T6 pretty much requires mastery of the previous Tekken's, you can simply pick up DOA and get right into it with very little previous experience. Graphically, T6 has the edge with models and scenery detail but DOA is breathing down its neck and is, of course, unmatched in the sexiness factor. There may not be ending sequences in arcade mode, but story mode (as far as I've gotten) has good cutscenes, decent voice acting, and where you can't enjoy any AI vs AI in T6, you can go into spectator mode with DOA and just take in the hands-free action until you're ready to join in the fun. Missed DOA since Hardcore on the PS2 and I'm glad they decided to bring it back to Sony's console again. Expand

    Amidst the obvious style-over-substance generalizations the fighting game community labels on DOA and its fan service and jiggle physics, I found out that it's actually a fun and moderately deep fighting game which will keep me going on for a long time.

    On the PS3, after installing it, no game compares to how short the loading screens are. Excellent performance. Also, DOA 5 is by far the most beautiful looking fighting game I've played.

    Great fun and very easy to get into. Graphics are great. Craziness is turned up high. And it's not as intimidating as some other fighting games - anyone can get the basics and enjoy it. There's also plenty to do and a good variety of characters to get to grips with. Highly recommended.

    This game is just lame. Bugs, lags and bad performance make it the worst beat'em up in the last 12 months. Don't buy this game, it's not worth it. You can't believe how damn stupid the story is and the trophies are just ridiculous

    Let's get this straight, yes .. DOA5 has sexy female characters and it shows .. there is nothing wrong with this as long as the gameplay is superb, and it is.

    First, the story mode is done very nicely, it is a character introduction, story and tutorial all combined together .. and while the story isn't ground breaking in any way it never takes itself too seriously and even when it does it's still damn funny and entertaining, the tutorial aspect covers most of the basics and delves into the advanced techniques in the game .. new players should really finish the story mode before trying anything else.

    Aside from story mode there are the usual Arcade, VS, Time Attack and Survival mode (aside from the excellent practice mode), there is also the option to play Tag battles which can be a lot of fun.

    The visuals are upgraded significantly and there is a nice attention to detail (detailed faces, sweat, wet/dirty clothes, fully destructible objects .. etc etc) .. not to mention the stages are huge and filled with nifty details and multiple fighting arenas per stage and the "danger zones" mechanic makes them even more interesting.

    There are many characters both male and female (and the addition of 2 Vitrua Fighter characters is welcome ^_^), each has at least six outfits per character (2 unlocked from the get go and the rest unlocked through the other modes, while story mode unlocks characters), and of course the infamous bikinis for the girls this time are going to be DLC XD

    DOA5 is really a full package of goodness, interesting technical combat system, fun stages, sexy characters, lots of different modes .. etc etc ... if you see nothing but "boooobies" here then you are surely missing the point and can't see beyond your nose.

There are many aspects of this game that can be covered, but I'll focus on three and let other reviewers tackle the rest. First, the technical mechanics have been changed to include critical bursts, power blows, andINTRODUCTION: Behind all of the glamorous scenery, better-than-average to good storyline, and beautiful character models is a solid fighter that is actually fun to play. There are many aspects of this game that can be covered, but I'll focus on three and let other reviewers tackle the rest. First, the technical mechanics have been changed to include critical bursts, power blows, and sidesteps. Second, the gameplay is suitable for beginners without much frustration, but a pro will always beat a newbie. Finally, I'll discuss the collector's edition, what's included, and the quality of the items. DOA5 HAS SOME NEW FIGHTING MECHANICS over the traditional DOA triangle system, and these are critical burst, power blow, and sidestepping mechanics. Critical burst, if it lands, allows a player guaranteed damage without fear of holds (ie. DOA4). Power blows are charged attacks that not only deal massive damage if connected, but also serves to launch opponents into normal hazards like a normal attack, or trigger special hazards only available to power blow attacks. Finally, sidestepping was introduced that allows one to easily avoid vertical attacks, but not rotating attacks or throws. Sidestepping input is either a double tap up or down, or up/down+HPK. This input is selectable in the menus. DOA5 IS ACCESSIBLE TO NEWBIES. Control input is forgiving and can be buffered to help button mashers and less skillful players get into the game. A few combos for each character can be accessed by simple P or K input without ever touching your stick, but if you really want to fight to win, you'll be forced to penetrate deeper into the game mechanics. It's not that these easy combos are poor or ineffective, but rather that they can be easily predicted and counter held. THE USA COLLECTOR'S EDITION HAS COOL STUFF in it: DOA5 poster with the entire cast and text that reads, "I'm a fighter" (of course), a free "Kasumi FULLY EXPOSED" PDF guide with a ton of technical info and tips on on how to play her, swimsuit costumes voucher, full game soundtrack, art book with comments from Team Ninja about the challenges in changing the character designs (honestly very vanilla... I miss Itagaki's funny personality), and of course, the game itself with manual. While the extras are cool to have, I would've honestly been okay without them. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with the extras and think it was worth the purchase. This is definitely the best DOA collector's edition release I have seen, but I feel like it's something I will only look at once and never use or see again. The extras, aside from the costumes, really have no replay value. Maybe I'm hoping they have some resell value, though. ;) BOTTOM LINE: All in all, DOA5 is a solid, competition-ready fighter with a decent storyline, evolved game mechanics, and feels much less broken than DOA4. The fighting mechanics will be easy to pick up as a newbie, but the pros, and even the computers, will give you a run for your money. This is a fun game that feels deeper and more polished than any DOA ever released. Expand

    This game gets a "6" because they fighting is still solid, HOWEVER, everything else you expect about quality form this series is totally missing. The super clean and smooth menus are gone and replaced by some TAPOUT moron art designer (and they lag too), the game only runs at 720p and has NO ANTI-ALIASING!! Looks like PS1 style jaggies on the edges everywhere, and even then there are partsThis game gets a "6" because they fighting is still solid, HOWEVER, everything else you expect about quality form this series is totally missing. The super clean and smooth menus are gone and replaced by some TAPOUT moron art designer (and they lag too), the game only runs at 720p and has NO ANTI-ALIASING!! Looks like PS1 style jaggies on the edges everywhere, and even then there are parts where the frame rate (near the walls of the stages) will drop down to 15fps. The faces are better, the sweat is cool, but they are still emotionless and expressionless faces nonetheless. The boob physics are kind of messed up. They have good technical gelatinous properties, but they kid of have to gravity and seems to just float about randomly, colliding with each other and no conforming to their clothes, which is pretty lame, and makes it surprisingly less attractive than previous DOA games. It's not the same with Itagaki gone, but I have hope for the series on the next gen consoles, this game is just not up to par with its predecessors. Expand

    I'm a huge fan of DOA! Me and my bros play DOA ever since the first one. The fighting styles of each characters are well done. I really like the new dirt and water/sweat graphics to make the fighters look a little bit interesting. Lastly, I love the new facial features of the characters, they made so much better looking than the previous DOA. I'll give it a 9. I'm a FIGHTER, You're a FIGHTER.

    Beware of the online pass. You need to buy a new game to play it on another console. Don't support this evil practice. The game is okay though but nowhere as good as DOA4.

    The short-sighted reviews who wrote this game off as only t&a with no depth have already been disproved by the community so I don't need to go on about that. This game lets you string moves together easily to make it immediately enjoyable, and our job is to figure out which moves string together best. Dead or Alive 4 paved the way for almost every fighting game release in the past 7 years. Fighting games have adopted one thing or another from Dead or Alive 4 and incorporated them into their own design, be it the "bounce" combo mechanic, Online ranked lobbies and network inspiration, or even Motion Blur as a detail enhancing visual feature. In one way or another, nearly every fighting game made in the past 7 years has taken notes from Dead or Alive 4 in hopes to compete. Dead or Alive 5 doesn't aim to be better than, or even as good as Dead or Alive 4. It lacks features from previous DOA games, it lacks network capabilities from previous DOA games, it lacks balance from previous DOA games, it simplifies combat immensely by **** the **** out of Counter-Holds making them relatively useless, thereby ruining the "Triangle System" brand of combat that DOA is famous for. It's buggy, rushed, highly in favor to the over-sexualization of it's female characters (even more-so than previous DOA games) so much as to be called misandry.

    Dead or Alive 5 is the biggest fighting game scandal in the history of fighting video games. Please understand that the Team Ninja that made the previous four DOA games no longer exists. In 2008, Tomonobu Itagaki and over 36 key members of Team Ninja quit and sued Tecmo for business malpractice. leaving Tecmo's Team Ninja with a shell of what once was a development studio. The publicized departure of Itagaki and around 40 people caused a stir up that dissuaded prospective engineers, programmers, animators, artists, and designers from choosing to work for Tecmo/TeamNinja, and because of that - they could only end up hiring people who were not entirely capable. This game is as much of a bastardization to the Dead or Alive series and fighting games as a whole as Ninja Gaiden 3 was to the Ninja Gaiden series and action-adventure hack-n-slash games. Anyone who praises this game either doesn't play fighting games or is simply lying through their teeth. This is one of the cheapest Lie Detectors available, while still being the most expensive Fighting Game without content.

    DOA5 is lacking in innovation and creativity. Considering how small the game is, with its small roster, few stages and modes available, it's very hard to recommend this game given what other fighting games are offering out there. Character design is quite poor. You can totally tell they used the same template when designing Jann Lee and Akira, or Rig and Bayman. Walks into a bar and someone comes up to you and says they don't like strangers. Then BAM!! Let's fight each other. Another annoying bit of the story mode is Zack!! Why?!! And finally, the story mode is quite embarrassing at times, especially parts involving Leifang and Hitomi....Ugh, really childish!! Outside of story mode, you have VS mode, and all the typical modes you'd expect like survival, practice, online etc plus a spectator mode. As you play you will unlock a few characters and new costumes (around 7 for each character). FULL STOP. There is no other rewards. There is no customisation mode. This makes the game repetitive and quite boring quickly. Of course, not all of it is bad.. The first thing you'll notice when you play this game is how fluid the animation is during fights. Interactive environments are also well implemented. And finally, this game can be quite challenging in normal difficulty and beyond. You will need time to invest in your skills. However, overall for the lack of content DOA5 as to offer, this game will be a waste of money unless you really are a diehard fan of this franchise. Otherwise, I'm telling you -Don't fall for this!!     DOA 5 really is just a prettier/updated version version of DOA 4 but that's okay. This series has always been fast and furious and the newest installment is just as challenging as the others. The characters look great, the controls are tight, and the training mode is nearly perfect, even demonstrating the moves for you. There is a ton of unlockables (titles, outfits, etc) and the onlineDOA 5 really is just a prettier/updated version version of DOA 4 but that's okay. This series has always been fast and furious and the newest installment is just as challenging as the others. The characters look great, the controls are tight, and the training mode is nearly perfect, even demonstrating the moves for you. There is a ton of unlockables (titles, outfits, etc) and the online works well (at least I haven't had any problems). The story is stupid but then who cares about story in a fighting game? This is DOA at its best and they even offer simpler control setups for those who are new to the series. I definitely recommend this game to all fighting fans. Expand

    This game holds up well in 2020 for the PS3. The graphics look stunning and the fighting is solid. Online still works and other players are automatically searched while playing. People are online every time I play. The girls look good in this game. They look real good.

    Dead or Alive is still one of the best fighting game franchises for 15 years since its debut on the Playstation in 1997. I thought the new Dead or Alive 5 game was the perfect nail in the coffin to all fighting games like Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken Tag Tournament 2. The game was great, I played the demo version. However, there's only one problem: Where's the "S" in sexy, TecmoDead or Alive is still one of the best fighting game franchises for 15 years since its debut on the Playstation in 1997. I thought the new Dead or Alive 5 game was the perfect nail in the coffin to all fighting games like Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken Tag Tournament 2. The game was great, I played the demo version. However, there's only one problem: Where's the "S" in sexy, Tecmo Koei? Some fans were not too happy on the fact that the director of the game said he has to tone down the sexuality and add more to the flavors of the game. I agree with the fans and I want more bigger breasts so that newcomers of the game will see a much needed feminism when it comes to M-rated sexed-up titles. More nudity and more boobs = more geeks. Think of it, Lara Croft, back in the day, has one of the hugest knockers on the face of the video game world. Juliet Starling from Lollipop Chainsaw not only has the comedy and cheerleading, I wonder if her large boobs looked like a giant lollipop to lick anything that a zombie can even handle. And although I still like the DOA girls. Whether their playful on the beach, show their breasts to the camera, or still manages to throw down the gauntlet. you don't know what they are gonna have in store. The story mode is far from a disappointment, but adding new fighters like the first female MMA fighter to be appearing in a Dead or Alive game, Mila (which has a lot in common between her and Tina Armstrong, also a bonafide wrestler), and characters from DOA's console rival, Sarah Bryant, Pai Chan, and Akira Yuki from SEGA's Virtual Fighter series joining the elite lists of fighters look totally awesome. So Dead or Alive 5, is a great game. But I'm feeling that it's needs to be upgraded like scanning more big boobs. Expand

Not only is this the best-looking, most detailed and best animated fighting game of allIt's surprising that this game has not been praised more by critics given that few Virtua-Fighter style fighting games have managed to capture the excitement of fighting games in recent years. Everything from the stage graphics to character models are life-like; with good variety in stages too and enough space to fight in. The game is based on old-school mechanics of a 3-button (punch, kick, hold) triangle system. The rock-paper-scissors mechanic makes it easy to understand for beginners, and the lack of meter management, fancy super moves etc. means this game is a pure brawler rather than full of gimmicks and flashy animations. The controls and mechanics are intuitive and easy to grasp without the need for a tutorial. However, despite the simple controls and easy execution, the game is quite deep and satisfying to play regardless of your skill level. You can also play this game cooperatively with up to 4 players, since there is tag match where it's 2vs2. All the elements of a modern fighting game are present. Trials (command training), time attack, survival, arcade mode, story mode, online, replay channel, titles etc. My only criticisms of this game are that there isn't enough variety in the characters, but this is excusable given that in these kind of fighting games differences are naturally more subtle than for 2D ones with special moves and such. Also, at beginner level, it's difficult to judge when to attack after blocking since there's no clear visual indication of active frames. All in all though, DOA5 is by far one of the most fun, exciting and high quality fighting games available. Expand

Over-all DOA 5 preserves the spirit of the series and is an ok if not brilliant addition. Not really enough new features for it too be up there with the best.     Fantastic game. Excellent graphics, good story line. I found my self laughing at some parts.
    People shouldnt complain about online pass. If you want to support developers then pay it.
    If you bought it preowned for cheap, then play it offline.

    A great fighting game interesting battle system, characters each with their own fighting style, beautiful arena, the Internet is a great, excellent training mode.
    VF5 certainly more suitable for kiberdistsipliny everything is polished and licked, but DOA 5 is much better in terms of graphics and dynamics.

    I don’t like most fighting games nowadays. I feel like genre itself has dug itself into a hole and just relied on gimmicks like stages with obstacles that just get in the way of the fight and making the different character’s moves and combos more and more difficult and convoluted just to name a few. That being said, one fighting game from what will soon be the last generation that I did like was “Dead or Alive 4.” The fighting controls and dynamics were easy to pick up and worked far better than you’d expect and as anyone familiar with the series would know there are, well, other things you can find entertainment from in the series. It was by no means a perfect game but it fun game on it’s own and a great early 360 game since it came out a near month after the release of the console. It was with this thought (and the fact that it was only $15) that I gave “Dead or Alive 5” a shot with my cousin this weekend and while I still liked parts of it, I think Team Ninja has forgotten what makes the series great (besides the almost naked women in it…)

    “Dead or Alive 5” tries to put more of an emphasis on story. This is apparent when you give the story mode a go and see that it’s got more cutscenes in it than every other fighting game ever combined. Unfortunately, the story isn’t very good because it doesn’t make a lick of sense. Characters fight each other for the smallest of reasons and sometimes, for seemingly no reason. There were several instances where the cutscene made it appear as if two characters were getting along fine, only to have the next fight be between the same two characters. When I got to the end, I was so confused. I had no idea how every character’s arcs were connected and what happened to each one, nor what the real significance of the conclusion was. A certain character even dies near the end, only to show up in almost every cutscene that follows. I appreciate that Team Ninja tried to actually make a fighting game with an actually good story (which is something that seems to never happen) but everything was way too convoluted and the writing (especially the dialogue) was far from good.

    Speaking on the technical side of things, “Dead or Alive 5” impresses. Character models are by far the best the series has seen yet and just all around good for a late console era fighting game. While I did rag on the story mode for not having a good story to tell, the cutscene graphics are actually pretty damn good looking. The only issue is that several of the game’s physics and how it reacts with the character’s hair or dresses are kinda wonky. This is a pretty common flaw in most video games and normally I wouldn’t make a big deal out of it but when it’s a game like this where the look makes all the difference I can’t not take off points for it.

    On the gameplay side, things are must more frustrating. Gone is the simplistic style of “Dead or Alive 4” and instead it has a much more complicated and annoying fight system just like every other popular fighting game. Thus learning the new mechanics is a pain in the ass, even with the tutorials during the campaign and the training mode. Holds and especially throws are a to pull off yet the computer can get them constantly on the harder difficulties. Keep in mind, throws were previously easy as hell to do but now, it just seems like the game is punishing anyone who either doesn’t have a fight-stick or whose brain works as fast as the world’s fastest supercomputer.

    The load times are a minor annoyance. They are annoyingly long unless you install it to your hard drive. One minor thing I did like though is the cross-play option and how you can get invites to matches while just playing through the story or other offline modes and the near seamless transition (even if some of the online’s connectivity is rather lacking).

    I’m sure the dedicated fighting enthusiast will ignore these issues and dive in but I miss when fighting games used to be fairly accessible to casual play. Now that “Dead or Alive” is out, the only game series I can think of that fits that description is the “Smash Bros.” series, the very same series that apparently thinks having the Wii Fit Trainer as a character was in no way an idiotic decision. I still enjoyed playing the game to a point, but it certainly hasn’t improved my outlook on the genre and even the traditional inclusion of Ryu Hayabusa and other “Ninja Gaiden” characters wasn’t really enough to change my mind.

    “Dead or Alive 5” gets a 7/10.

    After the first two hours of playing dead or alive, I was at gamestop returning it. I mean this game is know for being disgusting, but this time they were taking it too far. The first thing I was introduced to was the DLC outfits, I just ignored it and downloaded what I needed. Then while fighting there was just so much boob shaking, and skirt fliring, like that was the point of the game.After the first two hours of playing dead or alive, I was at gamestop returning it.     Pese a ser la evolución lógica de la saga, sentí que la cantidad de contenido recortada fue grande, y así acabó siendo con las siguientes ediciones de DOA 5. Esperaba muchos más modos de un jugador. La historia era floja, floja.

    It's great. It's the best game I've ever seen. The picture is exquisite, the movement is smooth, and the design is exquisite.

    Dead or Alive 5 is just as unique as it is awkward. On the surface it still wants to be the kooky, over-the-top brawler that is known more for its breasts than it is its fists. However, underneath that façade is a high-quality fighter still struggling for acceptance within the fighting game community.
