At times feeling as if the authors lacked a sense of one! It's as if they were so desperate to be considered funny that they succumbed to forcefully cramming the word "dick" into as many conversations as possible, and contrary to what most contemporary comedic films would have you believe, this DOES NOT neccesarily equal funny dialogue. There's quite a sophisticated craft to selling a quality dick joke... and this game has maybe (MAYBE) 1 or 2 instances where it even comes close to that level. Overall, however, I genuinely enjoyed this game for several hours... right up until the repitition tired me out. Still, enjoying 5-6 of the games 8 hours is worthy of at least a rental, if not an outright purchase. Expand

I played the game on HARD which had the perfect balance of difficulty so that I could focus on killing things creatively just as equally as I had to focus on my own survival. The game has a great story, and the characters who at first may seem loud, crass and two dimensional, slowly flesh out into surprisingly deep and likable characters. What can I say about Bullet storm it reminds me of Duke Nukem mixed with Halo, and it works well. As for the graphics .... they are okay however they are not the best I have seen, in some areas there are blurred textures, and it also feels like an old unreal engine game, this is offset by having a consistent frame rate, and you'll likely not notice these issues unless you are looking.

The humor is fun for a while but you'll become bored of them very quickly. I do like the ammount of swearing in the game though as it adds depth to the characters.

While on the topic of the characters they are pretty well acted and their stories do make sense but the main character is only great for the first half of the game, in the last half he changes, but this isn't a bad thing, as the story makes up for it.

I highly recommend getting this game.

What dragged me in to being interested in it so much was the unique style of the game, the many things you could do, and of course, the fact that it was by Epic Games (those who made the Gears of War and Unreal Tournament franchise, for those who don't know). Did the game meet up to its expectations from me and earn a spot as a game that was actually worth the wait? Find out by reading on in my review!

    The Good:
+ Graphics: Sure this game may not offer the best in graphic design but the game is still incredible to look at, especially when viewing the scenery, which this game does quite well. Usually in first-person shooters that keep the player on track like this there is at least one time in the game where you feel as if you've been in a new area before, though you're an hour or so further in the game. The feeling of being in the same place twice ceases to exist in Bulletstorm due to the differences in structures, lighting, and even characters that are seen throughout the game.

+ Sound: Besides the controversial sweary-merries that are heard almost every other second by perfect selections of voice actors (in my opinion), there are also many more great sounds and effects to take in while playing Bulletstorm. From the metal battle background music and gruesome screams of your enemies to the sound of the weapons you use.

+ Gameplay: This is a big hitter for me, especially for the fact that this game pulls off many first timers right from the start that will remain unsaid due to spoilers. All I can say is killing with skill is a lot more fun and challenging than it sounds, and there are many new game elements included with that that make Bulletstorm stick out from other games with a much higher fun-factor. The story mode is a decent length and the online mode, though rather hard to do without using cooperation, is fun if you find the right people.

+ Difficulty: This one is a tough one to rank either good or bad for the fact that the game isn't really all that difficult, there's just a need for skill when it comes to consuming ammo for the fact that being low on ammo will be the reason you die the most in this game. Killing with Skill can be a challenge though, seeing as how there are so many ways to kill and such little time to do them thanks to 'skillshots' that can only be done in certain areas that may only be in the game once or twice and are easy to miss. + Replay Value: On par with the difficulty of this game is it's replay value, which in my opinion is quite high do to the amount of things you can do. With all the skillshots there are to see and multiplayer mode that is just screaming to be conquered by a good team, there are more than just a few 'extras' to go for when considering to visit the world of Bulletstorm once you beat it.

    The Bad:
+Sound: Though the game managed to be hilarious at times, there is such a thing as going TOO far, and Bulletstorm did that in a way to where it almost got annoying. Notice, I did say Almost, and that's for the fact that the game managed to throw in some emotional and serious parts to the game that cut back on the humor just a bit.

Other than that, Bulletstorm was definitely worth the wait and is a great game, especially for those of you who are looking for something new. If you are one of those people or you're just looking for a good game this is a buy and the game scores a 9.0/10 from me. For more of my reviews, look me up on Youtube.com. The reality of the game was far from wonderful. While the graphics were good (the environments in particular were very well done), I found myself simply not having much fun. The problem comes from the foundation of the game itself. Despite having wonderfully visualized environments the levels are really more like roller-coaster rides, following a narrow and singular track without any option to deviate.

Even this I could have put aside in my mind and still enjoyed the game. However, the core aspect of the game revolved around the much-touted "skillshot" system. While this sounded great on paper it quickly became tedious and boring. Killing your enemies wasn't enough, you had to kill them in new and creative ways. Sounds good, right up to the point where you look at the list of things you're required to do in order to get these skillshots. Some of them are absurdly difficult and attempting to get them is not only slow but frustrating and boring. A fast paced action shooter quickly devolves into grinding for skillshots.

Top this off with corny dialog peppered with forced, over-the-top profanity (most of which is asinine rather than funny) and zero character depth, and you've got a game that's not worth putting in the console.

Clearly the best Unreal based game on the PS3. The amount of crazy action and particles and explosions is just amazing! I played the game on both PS3 and 360 and the PS3 controller is actually a bit better - a little bit more precise - so the PS3 version is my preferred platform to play the game on. Yet more proof of how much of a stale cash grab FPS games are. This game reminds me of Dr. Rockso the Rock n' Roll Clown.

Bulletstorm is just another shooter trying to differentiate itself by trying to seem edgy. Instead, it ends up being corny and kind of embarrassing. The question is never about graphics. The real question is how does this game differentiate itself from other shooters?

The answer: Nothing really. Story doesn't make up for putting a month of modelling effort into some new guns and terrain. This stuff is cheap to produce. It's the complex and innovative rules and game mechanics that push the envelope. Something Bulletstorm doesn't even come close to doing with it's messy hair and only-big-boys-can-act-bad (for kids) attitude.

Graphics: Wonderful!! As good as it gets on PS3!

Sound: What you expect, good surround and the sounds of your weapons make them feel really powerful. The only negative is some of the ambient sounds. Like the waterfalls, when you are standing only a couple of meters from them its not the roar you could expect. But the character dialog is good and dont listen to the people who complains about the dickjokes, its actually not that often and really is what you expect from hardcore military guys.

Story: Actually a really good story for a FPS and you actually want to play on just to see what happens in the next chapter in the storyline. In the end of the single-person story you just know there will definitely be a sequel to this excellent game.

Multiplayer: Had some problems finding a game so can´t really write something here.

Replay value: Ok, because you just want to play it again and try out all the kill-shots you missed the first time.

Overall: A shooter that doesn't get boring. Why? Because of the kill-moves, you really try to be as creative as possible in killing your enemies just to get more points for guns, ammo and upgrades. The solo-campaign is way too short!! Its actually the first game I have played through in one session. I hope they will release updates with new solo content.

If it wasn't for the lame ambient sounds and the short solo campaign I would have give it a solid 10 but now it gets a 9 instead.

That said, I owned it and thought I should play it. My forecast was at least take a peak then come here and bash it but to my surprize I enjoyed it. At first I was a little put off I had to kill an enemy with a skill shot I was just going to go the typical assault rifle path, but then somehow I actually started to enjoy the variety and environmental methods available to dispose of your ememies...the animations were enjoyable and somehow brings out that male dominance trait of wanting to wave bye bye sucker as you play.....And in turn with this brutalness it became apparent that the protagonists had to be potty mouths because the characters do some silly killing and their personalities should match. All said it was ok to have some indecent boyish humor in this game. It actually became a bit nostalgic....Ok some other things, overall I was only interested in single player so thats all I did. I liked the large amount of chapters (19) which were broken up into 15 min to half hr limiting commitment, and I especially loved the way the world felt. This game somehow reminded me of Rapture in Bioshock. Was it as good, not quite but it did remind me of that and the main characters somehow reminded me as well of Duke Nukem..... One of those games was bad, and one was pretty decent and this game seems to me to be a hybrid between those games. Now that I think about it this game seems to be a tongue in cheek mockery of almost all the popular shooters this generation and also for that reason I am partial to it.I think a 7 is a fair score for that mixture. I actually would have given this and 8 but the EA has already closed the online servers to this game. Overall I quite enjoyed this but it is going for trade in. One other thing EA forces you to agree to their terms of service when you purchase this game even though the servers are already closed down. This is completely indecent of them its like going to McDonalds and then they say you must agree to our terms and track how you eat your burger, how many sips do you take, and does it cause you bloating and how long til your bowel movement. This trend where software companies think they are entitled to invade your privacy for their selfish interests have to stop. It wants you to have a blast killing imaginatively, but gives you limited ammunition, uses cheap tactics and saves the best toys until way too late in the game. It wants you to revel in the wonderfully hackneyed story, but then suddenly gets all touchy feely, serious and humourless for no reason. [May 2011 p.75]
