Let's start off with the good. The game is large, relatively bug free, has awesome graphics and is very smooth to play. It's very decent with how the open world is, the enemy variety and going about things your own way. For these elements alone I'd love to give this game a 10/10 because it is quite phenomenal in many respects. Now what I don't like about it and although subtle it has all these elements: cheating, fetch quests, poor tuning and selling out making a game for everyone. Fetch quests are pretty obvious find this go get it bring it back.....boring. Poor tuning....ok I'm halfway through my playthrough and haven't found a decent unique weapon yet just permutations of everything else. This is boring in a game that advertises bazillions of guns. So am I just unlucky? No, I doubt it. So what's my beef? My beef is this game isn't tuned to be difficult. It's goes through a weapon upgrade loop finding a variety of weak guns with different abilities then progressing to higher enemies where these guns become outdated and then pretty much finding he same guns a little bit stronger, rinse and repeat. The game seems driven not by weapon luck but by a mathematical formula keeping you on pace in the game. If the game is gonna scale then let's have that promised fun and scale to whatever weapons I find so playthrough A can be wildly different than playthrough B, especially with different characters. Another example of bad tuning: I'm currently in Chapter 11 with a level 16 character. I'm getting bored with the weapon drops being boring so I go to the ammo vender only to find all that's offered in level 7-10 stuff...6-9 levels below my character .Seriously?... So I take plan B, round up junk the go to Moxies slot machines to gamble for a new weapon I may like. After a considerable time not one weapon is any better than the current playfield drops...so disgusted I go read some posts and find that this game offers golden keys from valve codes....no doubt you need to subscribe to their terms of service so you can get decent weapons at the cost of your privacy. Ah, it all makes sense on the normal in game weapon drops. Here we have a system like EA has employed, loot chests you have to sell your soul for but done a little bit differently. So this also goes hand in hand with cheating it turns out the valve codes also have exploits to them and no doubt the game tuning had to be adjusted after the game was patched. Perhaps to this day this game has seen tuning because of all these congressional issues. The end product for me is a game with amazing potential but does not challenge me in a manner in which I enjoy. Instead I feel the game is a time waster anyone can get through. The game seems very tuned to keep you busy and with enough wandering around you will succeed. Even the cash in the game is pointless. When you have lots of money and die it costs a lot to reincarnate. Go blow your cash at Moxies then die and you will see it costs nothing again to reincarnate. What is the point of the cash then? It's not useful at a vending machine nor is there gameplay punishment for spending it unwisely. Then I think about how much in game time it takes to open all those crates for this fake economy and it's depressing having to open the crates and see it. In some respects I like this but is game it is overly done to the point of feeling like a game zombie. I would still really recommend this game it's very large, decent for the money and is brilliant in many respects. I only wish the software companies go back to some old school challenge because what I like about video games is that they challenge your skills concurrent with brain power and many games are losing that notion making me want to just get rid of or stop gaming altogether. Borderlands 2 is a masterclass in writing and to a lesser extent gameplay, giving us fan favourite characters like Zer0 and Maya, expanding upon the stories of the first games Vault Hunters, giving us the best villain in the series and some of the best side characters to date.

Borderlands 2 is a masterclass in writing and to a lesser extent gameplay, giving us fan favourite characters like Zer0 and Maya, expanding upon the stories of the first games Vault Hunters, giving us the best villain in the series and some of the best side characters to date.

I'll level with you, I'm biased here, real biased. BL2 was the first Borderlands I finished, after playing BL1 and deciding I hated it because I chose Lilith and didn't how to play her at all, I picked up BL2... and decided I hated it because I chose Zer0 and didn't how to play him at all BUT then I went back when BL3 was announced and played Axton instead, a far more basic character, played through the game, and loved it to death, I thought the writing was hilarious, I loved Jack and anticipated his next ECHO call, and I loved the Crimson Raiders despite barely knowing who they were because again, I dropped BL1 in like 2 hours.

The gameplay in BL2 is just a much more refined version of the gameplay in BL1, but hot damn is it refined. Guns feel unique, turning Psycho's and Bandits into a red mist is amazing, and it never gets dull, the game is noticeably longer than the first yet never feels old or tiresome like Borderlands 3 or The Pre-Sequel, it justifies its length in gameplay and story and feels worth every hour. Learning to play a more unique character like Maya or Zer0 multiplies this fact, though they had their Siren and Assassin counterparts in BL1 in Lilith and Mordecai, they still feel unique, also Zer0 has a sword... He brought a sword to a gunfight, that's gangster as f*ck. Other characters include Salvador, the shortstack "Gunzerker" who I love very much for his character alone. Axton the generic Shooty Man with a turret, who I ended up having way more fun playing than I thought I would, he also did the LGBT Soldier Bro years before Blizzard with Soldier 76, which is a small win for me personally, and a pleasant surprise because we share a sexuality. Then there's Gaige, who has a f*cking Robot, so that's pretty bloody metal. Finally there's Krieg, who is a Psycho with an Axe... what more need be said?

The Writing in Borderlands 2 is definitely the peak when it comes to mainline games, personally I think Tales is the overall funniest but that's just me. Everything from Jack naming a diamond horse "Butt Stallion" in honour of you, to Jack -again- asking you to commit suicide for money, which you can do, and yes he does pay you, is all hilarious. It's not just comedy however, there are some genuinely heavy scenes that tug at the heart strings, Jack even pleads with you at one point, and despite being undoubtedly evil, it made me feel bad, in no short part due to Dameon Clarkes unforgettable performance.

Overall premise isn't much to write home about, Jack bad, Hyperion bad, go kill Jack, go to Vault, you win. It's more about the character interactions and what actually happens within the story, but like the first game, your immediate motivation isn't really much beyond "GO VAULT" which works well enough for a Vault Hunter I suppose, it's just one of the very few things I think the Pre-Sequel did better... it's the only thing I think the Pre-Sequel did better.

Borderlands 2 was superb when it released, and it's superb now, if you played BL3 and enjoyed it to any extent, I can't recommend Borderlands 2 enough

This game is excelent and addictive shooter. It make everything what was good in Borderlands 1 and made it to the perfection. In this kinda weird genre we get "unknown" main heroes which in Borderlands 2 have charisma and create hilarious/funny dialogs.
That's exactly what makes Borderlands 2 so damn enjoyable. Its humor is fascinating, innovative, crazy, idiotic and etc. (and its not afraid of being offensive)

The game is also mega super addictive. I could finish game after four days of playing. But i spent another three afternoons just doing side quests. Because i didnt want to miss these funny and bizarre dialogues and characters.

What I absolutely love in this game is the Borderlands 2 is the villain. Handsome Jack is probably one of the greatest villains in video game history (i would put him on same place on ladder as Vaas from FC3) and he's the highlight of the Borderlands universe.

So in the end.. this game deserves definitely a 9/10 rating! MUST PLAY

Of course, it doesn't come without its problems and my main issue with this game is the Ultimate Vault Hunter mode. It gets too monotonous because the characters become undying bullet sponges and if you don't grind for the right weapons and equipment every 1 or 2 levels, you'll find yourself being completely useless. But nevertheless, it's still a blast playing through the first two modes and the DLCs.

Borderlands 2 arrived at a time when its video game generation was nearing its end. In this sense, it was among those games that helped make those last years shine before their final breaths. Borderlands 2 was good and impactful more than enough to made us forget that its generation was ending.

Compared to the first Borderlands, we are certainly in front of a more interesting and better written plot. Handsome Jack is exactly what was missing in the first game: a real villain, identifiable, well characterized, perhaps not very original but with a really brilliant writing at times. And this applies to the game's writing in general, the level of humor was increased and only a few times it's exaggerated. And then the events in the plot, turning points, characters, all this contributed in making Borderalnds 2's plot hardly forgettable, without comparing it to plots that were still much better.

Borderlands 2 doesn't alter the solid "Role-playing shooter" formula of the first game, but certainly, by playing it, it is impossible not to notice differences. Let's start from the fact that Salvador, "the Gunzerker", is the most successful class of the game, the only one that is worth talking about compared to Axton, Maya and Zero. Salvador is Borderlands: chaotic, wild, unstoppable; Pandora embodied. Using two weapons, even of different type, and unleash a lead shower, while HPs and ammunition are constantly regenerated: it's not OP, it's just extraordinarily fun. Addition of "slag" elementary effect is very welcome, as is the introduction of special E-tech weapons. I must say that I missed Eridian weapons and Atlas manufacturer but at least Bandit manufacturer guarantees weapons with gargantuan ammo loads, in part replacing S&S Munitions which is gone. Variety of enemies has grown exponentially and among them I think Goliaths are the most well designed. It's always a pleasure to fight them, to make them become angry and to listen to their mad deliriums. Normally being angry makes you stupid, but not for Goliaths: "wrath" is evolution for them, which is awesome. I can't say if the side-quests are more than in the first Borderlands, but it's certain that they are much more fun and more varied. Addition of mini-map is also certainly good, as it is no longer always necessary to pause the game to have a minimum idea of where to go. Driving system remained almost unchanged, but at least there is the addition of the Bandit Technical vehicle. Some problems of the first game still remain: going forward it becomes more difficult to get EXP points, and only the most recent enemies guarantee a good leveling. Weapons are also subject to "aging". A legendary orange but low-level weapon (even E-tech) can be easily outclassed by a common white high-level weapon. Loot generation's random algorithm has been improved in the sense that offers more variety of possible combinations. Maybe it's true, however, that it's more difficult to obtain really rare and unique weapons than in the previous game.

Graphically the game was improved. Even if this it's not visible at first glance, still cel-shading ages very well. On the other hand, cel-shading makes difficult to perceive all of improvements. I played the game when it came out, on PC, and only years later on PS3. Differences are obvious: PC version offers extra features as well as simply better graphics in lighting, texture resolution, ambient occlusion and anti-aliasing. PS3 version is however well optimized, and performs well almost like Xbox 360 version. Frame rate it's still a problem, when things become chaotic. As in the first Borderlands, there's no unforgettable soundtrack but at least the intro song, "Short Change Hero" (however technically not OST, I guess) is very fitting.

Borderlands 2 received critical acclaim, it's one of the best-selling video games of all time with 22,000,000 copies sold and left a far greater impact than its predecessor in video gaming. You will find in it what you were looking for in the first Borderlands, but several times multiplied. After 7 years Borderlands 2 stands the test of time.
