Let's start off with the good. The game is large, relatively bug free, has awesome graphics and is very smooth to play. It's very decent with how the open world is, the enemy variety and going about things your own way. For these elements alone I'd love to give this game a 10/10 because it is quite phenomenal in many respects. Now what I don't like about it and although subtle it has all these elements: cheating, fetch quests, poor tuning and selling out making a game for everyone. Fetch quests are pretty obvious find this go get it bring it back.....boring. Poor tuning....ok I'm halfway through my playthrough and haven't found a decent unique weapon yet just permutations of everything else. This is boring in a game that advertises bazillions of guns. So am I just unlucky? No, I doubt it. So what's my beef? My beef is this game isn't tuned to be difficult. It's goes through a weapon upgrade loop finding a variety of weak guns with different abilities then progressing to higher enemies where these guns become outdated and then pretty much finding he same guns a little bit stronger, rinse and repeat. The game seems driven not by weapon luck but by a mathematical formula keeping you on pace in the game. If the game is gonna scale then let's have that promised fun and scale to whatever weapons I find so playthrough A can be wildly different than playthrough B, especially with different characters. Another example of bad tuning: I'm currently in Chapter 11 with a level 16 character. I'm getting bored with the weapon drops being boring so I go to the ammo vender only to find all that's offered in level 7-10 stuff...6-9 levels below my character .Seriously?... So I take plan B, round up junk the go to Moxies slot machines to gamble for a new weapon I may like. After a considerable time not one weapon is any better than the current playfield drops...so disgusted I go read some posts and find that this game offers golden keys from valve codes....no doubt you need to subscribe to their terms of service so you can get decent weapons at the cost of your privacy. Ah, it all makes sense on the normal in game weapon drops. Here we have a system like EA has employed, loot chests you have to sell your soul for but done a little bit differently. So this also goes hand in hand with cheating it turns out the valve codes also have exploits to them and no doubt the game tuning had to be adjusted after the game was patched. Perhaps to this day this game has seen tuning because of all these congressional issues. The end product for me is a game with amazing potential but does not challenge me in a manner in which I enjoy. Instead I feel the game is a time waster anyone can get through. The game seems very tuned to keep you busy and with enough wandering around you will succeed. Even the cash in the game is pointless. When you have lots of money and die it costs a lot to reincarnate. Go blow your cash at Moxies then die and you will see it costs nothing again to reincarnate. What is the point of the cash then? It's not useful at a vending machine nor is there gameplay punishment for spending it unwisely. Then I think about how much in game time it takes to open all those crates for this fake economy and it's depressing having to open the crates and see it. In some respects I like this but is game it is overly done to the point of feeling like a game zombie. I would still really recommend this game it's very large, decent for the money and is brilliant in many respects. I only wish the software companies go back to some old school challenge because what I like about video games is that they challenge your skills concurrent with brain power and many games are losing that notion making me want to just get rid of or stop gaming altogether. Borderlands 2 is a masterclass in writing and to a lesser extent gameplay, giving us fan favourite characters like Zer0 and Maya, expanding upon the stories of the first games Vault Hunters, giving us the best villain in the series and some of the best side characters to date.

I'll level with you, I'm biased here, real biased. BL2 was the first Borderlands I finished, after playing BL1 and deciding I hated it because I chose Lilith and didn't how to play her at all, I picked up BL2... and decided I hated it because I chose Zer0 and didn't how to play him at all BUT then I went back when BL3 was announced and played Axton instead, a far more basic character, played through the game, and loved it to death, I thought the writing was hilarious, I loved Jack and anticipated his next ECHO call, and I loved the Crimson Raiders despite barely knowing who they were because again, I dropped BL1 in like 2 hours.

The gameplay in BL2 is just a much more refined version of the gameplay in BL1, but hot damn is it refined. Guns feel unique, turning Psycho's and Bandits into a red mist is amazing, and it never gets dull, the game is noticeably longer than the first yet never feels old or tiresome like Borderlands 3 or The Pre-Sequel, it justifies its length in gameplay and story and feels worth every hour. Learning to play a more unique character like Maya or Zer0 multiplies this fact, though they had their Siren and Assassin counterparts in BL1 in Lilith and Mordecai, they still feel unique, also Zer0 has a sword... He brought a sword to a gunfight, that's gangster as f*ck. Other characters include Salvador, the shortstack "Gunzerker" who I love very much for his character alone. Axton the generic Shooty Man with a turret, who I ended up having way more fun playing than I thought I would, he also did the LGBT Soldier Bro years before Blizzard with Soldier 76, which is a small win for me personally, and a pleasant surprise because we share a sexuality. Then there's Gaige, who has a f*cking Robot, so that's pretty bloody metal. Finally there's Krieg, who is a Psycho with an Axe... what more need be said?

The Writing in Borderlands 2 is definitely the peak when it comes to mainline games, personally I think Tales is the overall funniest but that's just me. Everything from Jack naming a diamond horse "Butt Stallion" in honour of you, to Jack -again- asking you to commit suicide for money, which you can do, and yes he does pay you, is all hilarious. It's not just comedy however, there are some genuinely heavy scenes that tug at the heart strings, Jack even pleads with you at one point, and despite being undoubtedly evil, it made me feel bad, in no short part due to Dameon Clarkes unforgettable performance.

Overall premise isn't much to write home about, Jack bad, Hyperion bad, go kill Jack, go to Vault, you win. It's more about the character interactions and what actually happens within the story, but like the first game, your immediate motivation isn't really much beyond "GO VAULT" which works well enough for a Vault Hunter I suppose, it's just one of the very few things I think the Pre-Sequel did better... it's the only thing I think the Pre-Sequel did better.

Borderlands 2 was superb when it released, and it's superb now, if you played BL3 and enjoyed it to any extent, I can't recommend Borderlands 2 enough

This game is excelent and addictive shooter. It make everything what was good in Borderlands 1 and made it to the perfection. In this kinda weird genre we get "unknown" main heroes which in Borderlands 2 have charisma and create hilarious/funny dialogs.
That's exactly what makes Borderlands 2 so damn enjoyable. Its humor is fascinating, innovative, crazy, idiotic and etc. (and its not afraid of being offensive)

The game is also mega super addictive. I could finish game after four days of playing. But i spent another three afternoons just doing side quests. Because i didnt want to miss these funny and bizarre dialogues and characters.

What I absolutely love in this game is the Borderlands 2 is the villain. Handsome Jack is probably one of the greatest villains in video game history (i would put him on same place on ladder as Vaas from FC3) and he's the highlight of the Borderlands universe.

So in the end.. this game deserves definitely a 9/10 rating! MUST PLAY

Of course, it doesn't come without its problems and my main issue with this game is the Ultimate Vault Hunter mode. It gets too monotonous because the characters become undying bullet sponges and if you don't grind for the right weapons and equipment every 1 or 2 levels, you'll find yourself being completely useless. But nevertheless, it's still a blast playing through the first two modes and the DLCs.

Borderlands 2 arrived at a time when its video game generation was nearing its end. In this sense, it was among those games that helped make those last years shine before their final breaths. Borderlands 2 was good and impactful more than enough to made us forget that its generation was ending.

Compared to the first Borderlands, we are certainly in front of a more interesting and better written plot. Handsome Jack is exactly what was missing in the first game: a real villain, identifiable, well characterized, perhaps not very original but with a really brilliant writing at times. And this applies to the game's writing in general, the level of humor was increased and only a few times it's exaggerated. And then the events in the plot, turning points, characters, all this contributed in making Borderalnds 2's plot hardly forgettable, without comparing it to plots that were still much better.

Borderlands 2 doesn't alter the solid "Role-playing shooter" formula of the first game, but certainly, by playing it, it is impossible not to notice differences. Let's start from the fact that Salvador, "the Gunzerker", is the most successful class of the game, the only one that is worth talking about compared to Axton, Maya and Zero. Salvador is Borderlands: chaotic, wild, unstoppable; Pandora embodied. Using two weapons, even of different type, and unleash a lead shower, while HPs and ammunition are constantly regenerated: it's not OP, it's just extraordinarily fun. Addition of "slag" elementary effect is very welcome, as is the introduction of special E-tech weapons. I must say that I missed Eridian weapons and Atlas manufacturer but at least Bandit manufacturer guarantees weapons with gargantuan ammo loads, in part replacing S&S Munitions which is gone. Variety of enemies has grown exponentially and among them I think Goliaths are the most well designed. It's always a pleasure to fight them, to make them become angry and to listen to their mad deliriums. Normally being angry makes you stupid, but not for Goliaths: "wrath" is evolution for them, which is awesome. I can't say if the side-quests are more than in the first Borderlands, but it's certain that they are much more fun and more varied. Addition of mini-map is also certainly good, as it is no longer always necessary to pause the game to have a minimum idea of where to go. Driving system remained almost unchanged, but at least there is the addition of the Bandit Technical vehicle. Some problems of the first game still remain: going forward it becomes more difficult to get EXP points, and only the most recent enemies guarantee a good leveling. Weapons are also subject to "aging". A legendary orange but low-level weapon (even E-tech) can be easily outclassed by a common white high-level weapon. Loot generation's random algorithm has been improved in the sense that offers more variety of possible combinations. Maybe it's true, however, that it's more difficult to obtain really rare and unique weapons than in the previous game.

Graphically the game was improved. Even if this it's not visible at first glance, still cel-shading ages very well. On the other hand, cel-shading makes difficult to perceive all of improvements. I played the game when it came out, on PC, and only years later on PS3. Differences are obvious: PC version offers extra features as well as simply better graphics in lighting, texture resolution, ambient occlusion and anti-aliasing. PS3 version is however well optimized, and performs well almost like Xbox 360 version. Frame rate it's still a problem, when things become chaotic. As in the first Borderlands, there's no unforgettable soundtrack but at least the intro song, "Short Change Hero" (however technically not OST, I guess) is very fitting.

Borderlands 2 received critical acclaim, it's one of the best-selling video games of all time with 22,000,000 copies sold and left a far greater impact than its predecessor in video gaming. You will find in it what you were looking for in the first Borderlands, but several times multiplied. After 7 years Borderlands 2 stands the test of time.

Plot isn't brilliant but is is still good and there are some powerful and emotional moments, the main antagonist is well written and helps provide incentive to complete the main story line. The side quests are varied although some aren't that engaging there are still a lot of good ones with varying game play. There are lots of enemies with varying combat methods and weaknesses. The cell shading method unique to the franchise may make it look less "realistic" however it means that the game's graphics remain timeless when compared to other games even 6 years after release. The strongest part of the game however is the DLC offering if you buy the season pass it offers many hours of game play along with new weapons and enemies as well as some challenging raid bosses. The DLC raising the level cap and adding OP levels add even more game play hours and add extra probably need challenge to the game. I've seen a lot of comments saying the game is too hard, their just wrong, they are probably either not very good are playing under leveled due to avoiding all side quests or are using ineffective builds or items. For me the game only becomes challenging at ultimate vault hunter mode and on wards. If you buy the handsome collection for ps4 while on offer at between 10-15 GBP it is an absolute steal, insane value for money all DLC for BL2, all good stuff there. The pre-sequel while not as good as BL2 it is still worth playing through once and adds to the value of the collection. Very good game, if you enjoy pve fps games like destiny you'll enjoy this game and it's made even better when played with friends supporting 4 player multiplayer. Expand

Adding onto the original game, which was criticized for monotonous environments, borderlands 2 offers everything from acid-flooded grounds of the caustic caverns to the to the ice-covered walls of the fridge, any complaints about monotonous environments has been blown out of the water by this game
as far as amplifying the great parts of the original, combat in this game has been overhauled and added massive amounts of color and explosives to guns and bullets and combat as a whole. And while I'm mentioning combat, Enemy types vary incredibly in borderlands 2. Marauders to massive insects to invisible stalkers to powerful robots, fill the world to the brim just to mention a few, of course I'm forgetting to mention the threshers, rakks, skags, and the Hyperion cooperation's goons.
Now I should mention Handsome Jack. Handsome Jack takes the cake for my favorite villain in video game history. Witty insults, convoluted schemes, and just plain awesomeness make This bad guy, king of bad guys in my mind.

I personally severely enjoyed this game although the experience is quite short lived as DLC only boosts you from 50 to 72, but after that the gameplay is repetitive and is dull.

Overall, I mostly enjoyed this video game and have yet to complete the first but the exploding experience was just too short lived for my liking and so I rate it as above.

One of my favorite elements was the addition of better NPC's you get to love/hate in Jack(azz), Sir Hammerlock, a slightly more humorous Claptrap, and the unforgettable Tiny Tina. Who can't love a game that has you on a mission renaming enemies bonerballs. Main critique is that some missions require an annoying amount of foot travel and killing repawned(and boringly lower class)enemies, and that towards the end it starts to get kind of repetitive. Thrown back into the wonderfully deadly and bizarre world of Pandora, players choose one of the following Vault Hunters to prance around with for the next couple (or shall I say 20-30…) hours. You get to choose from Salvador the Gunzerker who is capable of dual-wielding guns and a master of blowing stuff up, Zer0 the Assassin who is able to decoy a hologram and slip into invisibility, Maya the Siren, a woman who has the power to lock enemies in the air (think Mass Effect Biotics…) and lastly Axton the Commando who deploys turrents with ‘have you met my girlfriend?’

Borderlands is a ‘sci-fi western game’. But with Tech. Crazy Folks and one hell of a screwed up antagonist, Handsome Jack. He’s tyrannical, mad and funny. He’s mess with you and play with your head, but hey, that’s fun right?

Gameplay, especially CO-OP is what this whole game is all about. The formula: kill, loot, kill, loot, kill, loot….is insanely addictive and fun when done alongside a couple of friends. The amount of weapons and VARIETY and STYLES out there will simply blow your mind. Guns here come in all shapes, sizes and colours. Some of them will shoot normal bullets. Some of them will shoot electrically charged bullets. Some fire incendiary rounds or those laced with corrosive acid. But some will even turn into grenades, yes that’s right, GRENADES, when you reload them. WTH?! AWESOME?

However, the more players means that there are bigger fights, which ultimately meana that there’s even BETTER loot and COOLER guns!! :)

The only downfall I can think of is the return of bloody Claptrap, the robot that greets our Vault Hunter. I seriously HATE the ‘cheerfulness’ in his voice and wish that I NEVER HELPED HIM FIND HIS EYE! Uggggggghhhhhhh. Die.

The cartoon graphics add a certain je ne sais quoi about it all – contributing to the game’s very distinct look. The script is brilliant and humorous and the soundtrack (especially, the introduction song ‘Short Change Hero – The Heavy) is even more majestic.

Borderlands 2 is a royal success!

I remember playing the original Borderlands on release. I was excited so much for it because Gearbox had taken so damn long releasing it, and promised so much within it's walls. I remember playing the original Borderlands on release. I was excited so much for it because Gearbox had taken so damn long releasing it, and promised so much within it's walls. I was very disappointed to find that much of what I had come to expect was lost to me. But I played it and finished and I'm glad I did. But in the end it still felt empty.

Then, a few years later, word spreads of the second outing for the franchise. Borderlands 2 was coming and it had nearly triple the amount of hype the first one did. I was hesitant at first, but after a short while I was engrossed in the trailers, excited by the posters in game stores, and eventually I bought it, once again, on release.

This time, instead of diving straight into coop with a bunch of friends, I went solo. And you know what? I had a blast. I stormed through so much of the game in a relatively small space of time. THAT was what the first was missing. The ability to comfortably move through the game on your own as well as with friends, because at the end of the day, a game is as much for our own personal enjoyment as it is for sharing with your friends.

This was crucial, I believe, in how Borderlands 2 was executed. Now I know not everyone will agree, and that's fine. Borderlands is what you make of it. But to me, the ability to jump in and out of games with friends, without feeling as though I was missing out by going it alone, was a big step for me.

That, combined with the stellar new cast of voice actors for the game breathed new, awesome life into it again. The story was epic, and honestly heartbreaking at times. Both myself and my friends laughed gleefully at several of the superbly presented set pieces in the story. And the villain had got to be one of my all time favourite characters in a game for a long time.

So, without waffling on too much longer, Borderlands 2, even if you haven't played the original, is a damn solid RPG to tackle, with plenty of challenges to overcome, and a whole suite of stuff to experience both on and offline. And, of course, randomized weapons are always a plus in my books.

The most overhyped and overrated game of the past few years. Sure, it's pretty, the story is interesting and the dialogues are funny. These quirks don't hold up the game as a whole, mind you.

The early game and beginning levels are fun, challenging and coherent as a whole. As you progress further down the line, you'll notice a pattern; Anything can and will kill you in very cheap ways.

As you progress further down the line, you'll notice a pattern; Anything can and will kill you in very cheap ways. Bullets shred through your shields as if it wasn't even there, and that is with the best shields you can get for that level. I played it with a friend, and at about L29 (out of 50) we just dropped our controllers and left BL2 for what it is - a poor excuse for a game.

My main point of criticsm comes from mob design point of view. Rather than giving mobs interesting abilities that you have to avoid or deal with, they made them insanely strong. Just for the record - AI with immaculate aim and insane damage is NOT similar to difficulty. It's similar to poor design and lack of creativity.

I did give this game a serious try and it had some serious potential but it messed up insanely hard as the levels progressed. Such a shame, it has so much potential.

All in all it's a meager 5 out of 10 at most.

I really wanted to like this game, as i'm a big fan of science fiction and FPS, but halfway into the game i'm really getting bored of following a very average storyline with no real substance. It's such a shame, as this could have been legendary. Now if someone can only combine the graphics of Borderlands with the storyline of the Fallout series. . . now THAT would be something special !!! The guns look unique and aren't just colour variations on the last gun you used, they are designed and fell differently from manufacturer to manufacturer, there is a vastly improved plot and multiple mechanics have been greatly improved, and the customization helps you make your character feel like it's yours, with the DLC not just adding extra story, but more characters, which spices things up.

However, the amount of loot feels significantly limited and the difficulty can ramp up to hair pulling levels (in the later levels and level increasing DLCs) for casual gamers and those unfamiliar with the mechanics, and this game does have moments where it feels you need friends just to get past a section with the difficulty spikes. And the game feels far more linear than it's more open predecessor, and from time to time somewhat repetitive with little or no reward, like it's predecessor.

In conclusion, do not let this game fall under your radar, you can definitely get hooked to the game and the DLCs add more everything, it will definitely guarantee an enjoyable FPS experience, be it alone or with drop-in/drop-out mulitplayer, with the game even gracing those who come with pals with raid bosses and an ever greater loot fest, with returning fans will most likely enjoy this leap from the original.

That's been a major selling point for the franchise for a long time.
As far as gameplay goes, the combat hasn't changed a whole bunch from the first game with the same ol' "shoot 'em up" mentality in place. That's not necessarily a bad thing because the first game was really good. I just thought that was worth noting.
One thing that was changed was the presence of the story within the game. The first game didn't have a really compelling story and at first, you may have felt it was absent all together. Borderlands 2 includes a story with a pretty impressive villain (Handsome Jack). While it's hardly "Last of Us" status, it'll keep you going.
All in all, I loved the game. I'd highly recommend playing it. Also, don't forget to play online!!! I can't stress that enough. Playing with your friend through the campaign is a blast.

There's more story, which will either resonate in different capacities with different people. I liked the mysteriousness of the first game. The biggest things to come out of it were the Interface and the storytelling.
Borderlands 1 had the vaguest of stories and mainly focused on loot and epic battle sequences and mad a note of emphasizing the multiplayer fun factor.
Borderlands is the classic example of tweaking a winning formula to make it even better.
The narrative is fantastic, the writers did a fantastic job creating a believable and engaging story.
While also making references and building on stories from the first game, creating wonderful links between the two stories, this is mainly done by interactions with the non playable characters of the Original 4 Vault Hunters.
The New 4 are basically the same, with the exception of the Assassin, who is basically all stealth.
Gunzerker is basically a dual wielding Bezerker.
The biggest improvements made are the skill tree's and the customisation of each character.
The dialogue is still humerous and witty, The AI of the enemies is greatly improved and with every boss battle it feels like you are doing something challenging and that you truly are contributing to the restoration of Pandora. All in all this game ads bells and whistles to a winning formula, without depriving of the original charm, the Single Player Campaign can become a little boring because the real fun is playing two player. This game is among the greatest of this generation.

It feels good to see the art of your bullets hitting the strange bodies opposing you. It would be impossible to talk about borderlands without talking about the brilliant writing that will humour you throughout your gameplay, at the forefront of which lies the games antagonist, Handsome Jack. Unlike any other gaming experience, and I have played most of the biggest RPGs of the past twenty years. It has one factor that most other games lack, it doesn't get old. It is the most replayable game I have ever played, and with good RPGs, I play them until I finish them (a few times). I've played this game from start to a finish a few dozen times, and with the DLCs and the co-op gameplay, it just doesn't get old. If every future gamemaker studied the heck out of 'Borderlands 2,' and brought similar genre-bending improvements to their respective efforts, I don't see how that could be ill-received by mainstream gamers.

A number of different classes also, with so much replayability, and the fact that you can create more than one character at a time is a big bonus for a game of this stature. Huge, open, semi-free roam world, some awesome rather tidy graphics, and very amusing in-game NPCs for more of the fun-factor.

Negatives: When playing with friends, loot drops aren't shared and only one player can pick up the loot-drops from enemies. Also, some people like him, some people don't, but ClapTrap (the robot) constantly talks rubbish and he does my nut in! Very annoying to listen to and unfortunately he can't be killed.

Borderlands 2 is an action/shooter WRPG and a shoot and loot type game. You got 4 character classes, one other character class as DLC. I thought the 4 playerable character were a bit of a disappointment as I thought there could of been more characters classes in 2 then from the first game. Sure you got the one extra character, the Mechromancer but i don't see the value in paying more. There're multiple and randomly generated guns each with there own type of weapon and stats to fit anyone's play style. When your base level progresses, you can upgrade a skill level that gives small bonuses to your character class. Pretty much, The Borderlands series is more like Diablo 2 but with guns which is a great idea for a concept if executed well. I can understand being a console game but it would been nice to have control of player stats then having stats done for you.

The major improvements to Borderlands 2 is its presentation. The game is much more funnier. Characters are interesting giving them voiced dialog, there're are bunch of references from the late 80s and modern times. The villain, Handsome Jack is everywhere and controls most Pandora, the current plant that series takes place one. You play as one of the Vault Hunters to open the other secret Vault and put a stop to Handsome Jack's evil deeds by joining the resistances against him. You'll see meet characters from the first game specially the previous Vault Hunts that will fight with you. The presentation to Borderlands 2 is greatly improved as well as the quest that I found tedious and annoying from the first game.

The only newest feature when it comes too gameplay is the new element called Slag. Once Slag is placed on the enemy, any normal weapon will do 3 times amount of damage and much more with stat bonuses and critic hits. Other then that, its still the same game as the first one with slightly great improvements to the presentation.
