I'm not even gonna talk about the solo gameplay, boring and disappointing, I'll focus on the important thing. THE MULTIPLAYER.

First off I'd like to point out that I played and liked BF 3, reached colonel level 10, I know is not that much but is enough to be familiar with the game. I've been playing the multiplayer all day and got nothing but stress, around 6-7 hours of gameplay.

BF4's multiplayer is not bad, it has potential, but the problem is that I consider it very inferior from BF3's multiplayer, I'll let you know my reasons.

Vehicles: I'll start with the general problems regarding vehicles: First off, they changed all the controls for them, how hard is to put an option to drive/pilot them with the BF3 regular controls?, not hard, but they didn't the most similar setting is "veteran" but even so, the triggers of the controller are completely changed even between helis and planes, maybe is no bif deal since you'll get used to them soon or later, but there was nothing wrong with the old controls. ALL of the air vehicles are slower, VERY VERY SLOWER, they feel strange kinda like if you were driving a cloud, you don't feel the same weight and control that you had in BF3.

Helicopter: it feels I don't know how to describe it, is slower and is like moving a cloud around, you don't feel the weight or the mobility from BF3's chopper, is not really that bad really, but you'll get down far more easy than in BF3.

Jets: They completely ruined the jets for me, they are horrible, they are very VERY VERY slow, they have more maneuverability, but is completely eclipsed by the big mistake that dice did, you can no longer fly away from the map, that's right the main map is all the space you have to fly, this transforms the jets into a completely useless machines, they only fight other jets, oh and what other jets? well JUST 1, that's right in every map there are only 1 jet per team, I mean I wasn't a flying ace in BF3 but I enjoyed the feel I had a 4 star in the jets I may not be the best but I do know how to fly them, and let me tell you, jets in BF4 are broken, really they doesn't matter they don't do any difference, because, you feel inside a cage, they wouldn't be so bad if the space was bigger but no, the lack of space in the map transforms the jets into useless machines.

Ground vehicles: they're more or less the same, but they have more power towards air vehicles, with the veteran config you'll manage to drive around like BF3 but with the triggers inverted. Otherwise they're the same.

Professions and footsoldiers: you gonna die in this game, A LOT, they changed the feel and the accuracy of the weapons, its the same problem you don't seem to have good control on them, they feel heavier, some do more damage and less damage, talking about the professions they broke support profession, you can get the C4 as the last gadget, that let you with claymore and a lot ot useless crap, since the bullet box isn't aviable from start. Medic, is harder to revive allies, you need to actually get down to do it, and you get only 20 points per revive, plus you don't start with the defibrillators, they "long ranged" weapons doesn't seem to be as effective as in BF3.

Maps: the main problem with the maps is that they are too big and open or too small and narrow, there's no middle point, either you're always in the open or you can't seem to find or see anyone, the "levolution" thing is not as impressive as you thing... you trigger some little changed that sometimes ruin the map like flooding a narrow map... yeah, becaue everyone likes to swim everywhere, a ship crashes into an island... yeah but that doesn't change anything, you don't even noticed, in the big maps takes you forever to find someone and in the narrow maps you get frustrated because the lack of space... every map of battlefield 3 is better than the maps of BF4 that's all I've got to say.

General Dissapoint: there are some minor things that are annoying, that you simply can't understand why they did that. for example, in my soldier settings you can no longer manage your vehicles and soldier weapons and stuff you need to be inside a match to do it, why? beats me, when you're trying to find a match you CANNOT longer choose the map you want to play, I mean WHY?, what was wrong with that?, I pre-orderd the game to get china rising before, and guess what?, around 8 hours of multiplayer gameplay and I DIDN?T PLAYED IN THE FRIGGIN MAP EVEN ONCE, what was wrong with choosing the map? maybe you want to train jets or helicopters or like a map in specific well you're because the map is going to choose the map for you and there's nothing you could do about it.

Anyway, I highly regret preorder this game...but there's not a lot I can do now. My advice?, stick with battlefield 3, until some changed are done BF4's multiplayer is nothing against its older brother. maybe you don't believe me, if you want prove RENT IT FIRST. I'll be playing BF3. See you there.

This game was obviously nothing but a money grab for dice/ea. Very few progressive concepts were introduced, and plenty head scratching changes were made...

Absolutely pathetic changes across the board.

Maps are too big for 24 players and terrible for infantry type players. Campfest and not my idea of fun.

Character movement is so slow! Another horrendous and inexcusable change from BF3.

The controls have been turned upside down! Please fire the person/persons who thought this was a good idea as they certainly need a new line of work.

levolution cool, I guess, but it doesn't add anything useful to the MP experience. I guess dice thought this would make up for the core gameplay failures?

My copy is being returned and I feel like dice may have killed the battlefield series with this atrocious attempt. Like I said earlier, this game looks like it was nothing but a cash grab for dice...well, you aren't getting my money! The lead developer for BF3 wasn't part of this game which may have led to this outcome, IDK. It really sucks because I enjoyed BF3 so much and was looking forward to this game, but they turned it upside down and made a complete mess out of it. This sort of gameplay simply isn't for me.

I'll be playing BF3 until I find my next shooter

Not bad and not good as well. Most features and gameplay of it are same as BF3. Graphics are slightly different and destruction are same. Lack of cutscenes and events have impact for it. Singleplayer is too damn short and worst than WarZ. Multiplayer is good but very unbalanced and buggy. Especially SP.

No more words, modes are same as well. 5/10.

*sigh* I can't believe this. After the disappointment of BF3, I was hoping for DICE to redeem themselves with this next entry. I was mistaken.

You know what, I'll leave at the fact that the SP in BF4 is garbage.
Second, the graphics... yes it looks good, but I swear every time I look at this game, I believe I'm playing an expansion to BF3. The texture pop-ins and weird graphical glitches really annoy me.
Third, the multiplayer. I had zero percent fun in this game's MP. since this is the current gen version, its only 24-players online. It'll get boring very fast. Levelution doesn't help the experience for me either.
    ....
You know what? I've had it. I'm done!
I'm sick of the BS EA has been pulling this generation! EA has completely ruined the Battlefield I know and love! Battlefield is no longer the franchise I remember anymore.
This game is just a pathetic attempt to take down Call of Duty!
Why should I continue to support a franchise I like when its own publisher is only making it to take down another game I like?
I am officially done with Battlefield and I'm not returning until then!

On my ps3 system (don't begin to say the gameplay was intended for next-gen since there's something called "optimization" and if the PS3 system wasn't enough to deal with the game then it shouldn't be released for that console in the first place), it freezes on my "every" play and enough is enough. I regret that I even purchased Premium right from the start. The patches, on the other hand, didn't help at all. It's sad to see the Battlefield series at its current state. Page right out of COD, congrats EA your Activision's brother..
Game hasn't had as much of an experience since bad company 2. They're comfortable in rehashing last years crap slapping a new number on the end and calling it visceral. I own it and I play it, doesn't mean it's at all the best game graphics or experience wise. The campaign is flat again and the multiplayer experience lacks innovation.

There are aspects of the game I appreciate but nothing can make up for the utter failure of the game to function and allow a player to actually play THROUGH the game rather than simply be reset every single day. Any company with such a lack of respect for their audience does not deserve the respect of those who play their product.

It proves that name alone doesn't make up for a rush job of a game. Still despite its issues it still provides a decent enough of an experience to be worth a spot in your multiplayer selections, just don't expect greatness.

The campaign is enjoyable enough to be worth a playthrough. It's short and the characters and story are forgettable, but the firefight you'll find here are fun enough to keep you entertained until the credits roll. The only thing that really stands out about it is the fact that you can rank up a high-score based on how well you perform. For the most part though it is about what you would expect for a modern FPS campaign. Lots of explosions and set pieces all crammed into a 4 to 5 hour experience. It's not perfect but it is far from the worst campaign I've played in a FPS. But let's be honest no one is going to buy this game for its campaign, multiplayer is the strength of this series.

As far as multiplayer goes it to is simply an adequate experience. It's also where the game feels the most rushed. The graphics, which manage to stay pretty nice throughout the campaign, are atrocious during multiplayer matches. Textures are washed out and everything just looks dated and ugly. Gameplay manages to hold up for the most part with a nice selection of maps and game modes. Minor glitches and some balancing issues hold the experience back, but what really hurts the experience is the sense of deja vu. It feels remarkably like Battlefield 3 did, only with dated presentation. But even with issues Battlefield 4's multiplayer provides enough thrills to be worth playing.

Overall it seems like DICE rushed out this latest Battlefield simply to compete with the latest Call of Duty. It lacks the polish of previous entries in the series and ends up feeling like more of the same. In the end it is hard to complain about more of the Battlefield series sweet multiplayer, even if it does feel very rushed. It may not wow you in the same way Battlefield 3 did, but its multiplayer will keep you entertained. I can only hope that with the next Battlefield that DICE manages to make sure everything is up to snuff before releasing it. I understand that they want to compete with COD, but they will only manage to hurt themselves if they don't add that last layer of polish.

In one sentence... Do not buy this game yet.

This is the most disappointing game I've bought this year. I mean, I've had some fun with it, and am still playing it, but the problems are so severe its not even funny. This game is, in almost every way, inferior to BF 3.

In a nutshell, the campaign is an improvement from the console BF3. Its well paced, much more open ended, and much more fun than its predecessor campaign. The graphics on the campaign are also quite good for current gen consoles (ps3/360).

Apart from that minor advantage over BF3, the game is ultimately inferior. The first thing you will notice in the multiplayer are the severe pop in issues. These were prevalent in BF3, but they are much worse here. The textures are also VERY slow to load. There are many in door levels in the game where its clear that the developers did not even bother to add textures.

Before getting to more negatives, on the positive side... the multiplayer features plenty of guns. The sound design is great. Some of the new game modes are great as well. Obliteration, for instance, when its working right, is a perfect fit for consoles. It merges the large scale destruction of conquest with an objective that keeps the action focused and frantic. Its really a very fun mode.

More importantly, this game suffers from some of the worst bugs I have ever seen in a major title. I bought this game after christmas. Despite the game being out for almost two months, I have experienced a variety of major issues. First of all, YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR CAMPAIGN PROGRESS once you switch to multiplayer. This issue has been brought to the teams attention OVER a month ago but has still not been fixed. LUCKILY, if you play the campaign ALL THE WAY THROUGH, without switching to multiplayer, you can AT LEAST keep your weapon unlocks and trophies. A heads up, there are FOUR guns to be unlocked in the campaign. One in the first level, 3 in the last. I will not give any spoilers.

I think that the above mentioned problem by itself is pretty awful but there are more. On the multiplayer side, the game freezes every so often and you will have to reboot your PS3. This has happened to me, on average, once per roughly every 3 hour session In addition, THERE IS ABOLUTELY NO PARTY SUPPORT. This means that you cannot create a party with your friends and join a game together. Instead, you must join a friends game or get invited to it. This doesn't seem like a bug, it seems it was intentionally omitted from the game. This speaks to the level of quality of this product.

Another issue is the spawns. Initially, the spawns on modes like squad deathmatch were very bad... usually placing someone right in front of the enemy. This seems to have been fixed. However, there is still a possibility that you will spawn UNDER THE MAP.

The controls have also been changed. These can be set back by switching to all VETERAN settings in the options menu. I am not docking the game for these choices, but I did find it personally annoying.

Ultimately, BF4 is a game that fans may enjoy. It does provide the same basic CONSOLE BF experience. However, something important was lost with this release. This game is by no means a quality product. It is riddled with game breaking bugs that go far and beyond what to expect with a major release. Some will discount any of the campaign bugs as insignificant because "no one plays the campaign", but that is simply wrong. I know people who ONLY play FPS for their campaigns. On top of that, if the most basic functions of your single player (such as keeping your progress) don't work...what else is wrong with it. The truth is, there is alot wrong with this game. I bought this game for 25$ on sale. I sometimes have the urge to buy the DLC, but i'm not going to do it. This product is unacceptable. These problems need to be fixed and if they are not, this company needs to feel the consequences. I understand that many of us love DICE, but that doesn't change the fact that this game is simply incomplete. I am truly disappointed with this game.

I never thought I would go back to CoD, but if they cannot do better than this with their follow up effort I just might have to. I wish there was a Battlefield clone that I could recommend for those of you are addicted to the large scale warfare set in a realistic world that requires teamwork and includes vehicles, but unfortunately this is probably the best you are going to get. If you haven't played BF3 yet, I would highly recommend that instead... if they still run BF3 servers that is.

There are just so many "headscratching" moments during any given session that it really make me wonder if this could possibly have been the finished product they intended. I realize this was probably designed for the next-gen systems and the PS3 was an afterthought, but here are some of my issues:
    1) Bullet detection I cannot count the number of times I have just WAILED on an unsuspecting opponent from close range with my primary weapon run out of ammo switch to my sidearm and hit him some more just to have him turn around and shoot me once with a pistol and I go down immediately. Then, as if to demonstrate just how poorly their software is working, the "I just got killed" screen shows me that my target still has 50% of his life left... wha? and while I must admit I sometimes get to be the unsuspecting target with the pistol that was magically victorious, it does not make me feel any better about it.
    2) The gunner on just about every vehicle is so much weaker than in BF3. Picking off guys in the helicopter or from the gunner seat in a tank used to be fun. Now you plug a guy several times and they still won't go down. The vehicles are pretty much only good for rides across the giant maps. The jets used to be my favorite... they are pretty much worthless now and I pass on them every time.
    3) Graphical anomalies during round startup!? Why would you want the round to start before all the textures were loaded? The first 30 seconds of every round looks like you're playing on a PS One. And the sound during this time period is atrocious.
    4) Sound This is the first game that I have noticed the sound... which means it is BAD... REAL BAD. Long stretches (30 minutes) of sounding like I'm under water. Random loss of sound. And I'm guessing many of the times that I'm been killed by one magic bullet is actually probably the 6th or 7th fired, the sound of the first 5 isn't heard on my machine.
    5) I've been playing the game for a month and very few games have locked up requiring a restart as often as this one has.

Am I going to stop playing? No. If fact, I'll probably get it for the PS4 when I finally get one. But I'm just coming to realize that I am more fond of the concept/potential of this game versus the game itself. If this had been the first BF I played back in my CoD days, there's no way I would be a BF fan.

BF3 was a great game, BF4 so far is just an average game. You would think since DICE had 2 years to IMPROVE upon BF3, BF4 would be amazing but amazing it is not. So far everything seems like a downgrade, not an upgrade. If you enjoyed playing with your friends on the same squad, on the same team DO NOT buy this game (or wait until they patch it). Currently you are unable to create a squad pre-game, no pre-game squad lobby. You are unable to switch sides if you or your friends end up on opposing teams.
In order for you to try and get your friends on the same team in the same game, you have to go to a server that is basically empty and wait for players to join in. Then your friends can exit and re-join the same game a HOPE that they are on your team.

In terms of graphics and weapons and maps they are all on par with BF3 with slight tweaks and slight improvements but nothing "earth shattering". The newest feature: "levolution" or massive destruction where you can collapse skyscrapers and implode bridges and dams is very cool, but does NOT make up for the short comings of this game.

The graphics aren't the worst part about this game, it's the controls! Everything and anything you want to do in this game is confusing. Who's decision was it to change the vehicle controls from great to garbage? There was never a problem with the controls in any of the previous games, why did you change them?
I can only guess Dice messed this game up so badly, because they needed a bunch of tax write-offs. This game is good for one thing, and one thing only, re-gifting. But re-gifting this game is just like re-gifting used toilet paper.

Other than loading bugs, there shouldn't be any major glitches getting in the way of the online experience. I think most people only hate on the game because of the bugs, rather than the gameplay. There have been many enjoyable moments in BF4 online, such as parachuting from the building of Siege of Shanghai to get to a bomb on Obliteration, or rigging a PWC with C4, and driving it into a DV-15 watercraft. The customization in the game has a very good variety of guns, paints, and camouflage. Switching from CoD to Battlefield, I can say my online experience has been a lot more pleasant. This is coming from someone who has bought every single CoD from 2007-2013. I would recommend Battlefield 4 to anyone looking for an FPS game.
Downsides: When you switch classes, it sometimes takes a while to load your class, which can be very annoying when you spawn in on a gunfight. Rubber banding seems to be a big issue if your connection isn't good. The amount of people who have blue tooth headsets could be higher, and the map loading time can be frustrating sometimes. Graphics on pilots seem a bit funny. If these were on PS4, Xbox One, or PC, I would give it a 9.

Dice rendered the "wheels" not as circles, but as body color hexagons. Yes, that's right. The wheels of the fork lifts are the same pink color as the body of the forklift, and they're not even round. Yes, that is what you can look forward too. Games like Unreal Tournament or Doom 3 have superior graphics to this game. Yes - no lie.

Then we talk about controls: on the PS3, the controls are very sloppy, slow, and clunky. They tried to address it with patches and updates, and while it is improved based on what it was, it is still a far cry from other PS3 FPS games. IE- both Bad Company games, and BF3 have superior controls. And while I'm not a huge fan of CoD, that series also has superior controls (oh, and graphics as well). Further, they also decided to revamp the buttons and layout. After 5-6 years of Battlefield games for PS3, they changed everything, so now your existing muscle memory will conflict with this game, meaning, if you actually do manage to see your opponent before they see you, you will likely hit select (to spot them) only to have the game freeze up on your end, as it brings you in to the menu. You will then subsequently die, as it takes about 8 seconds to exit the menu again. Now, should you survive that mistake, you will go to shoot your target, only to either A) Spot them (now spotting occurs by using the trigger), or B) lob a grenade. Of course, you can change the settings in the menu, but they are all pre-programmed layouts (like Goldeneye on N64), and none of them actually match any setting previously found in a Battlefield game on PS3...but you can maybe get past that.

Now, assuming your brain can translate the imagery on screen (it's tough, I haven't seen graphics like these in roughly 15 years), and assuming you survive long enough to make it to a vehicle, you will again be greeted by new controls, and terrible graphics. If you're in a jet, 90% of the screen will be covered with canopy lines and buttons...because that's what a pilot sees. Lines and buttons...but if you manage to find yourself in a tank, you'll find it mostly useless, mostly because every button you've been conditioned to press, will do something else. Meaning, once again, you have to wade into the settings to try and find a layout that works. "Veteran" is the one they suggest if you have played battlefield before, yet if still doesn't match any settings that ever existed, so really it should be called "Close Enough" because it's not actually what we did use, but it's close enough.

Finally, points and leveling up; this game will make you feel special. Ok, not special in a good way, but rather in a specifically insulting way. For instance: Did you shoot at someone, and not even hit them? POINTS! Did you play a round of Conquest?! POINTS! Literally anything you do, you get points. If your squad mate spawns off of you, you get points. This game might literally be the first game in the history of gaming, where you can get points simply by turning the game on, and leaving your character to sit. Which is actually a reasonable tactic, since the graphics are so poor it's likely the enemy won't see you unless you move.

Which leads me to my next point: matchmaking. You would think that using "quick join" would allow you to select a certain map, and then join in to any random match of that map....no, you can't. So if you purchase an expansion map, it's entirely possible you will never ever play that map, via quick join. Which is too bad, because the server browser seems to cause glitches quite frequently, either your PS3 locks up, or it reports there are no games. Or you have to spend 2-5 minutes filtering all the maps and modes you do and don't want.

Ok, maps: It seems that the graphics are so crippling, that you can generally find one spot, and pitch a tent, and your enemies will blindly run at you multiple times, to no avail. Perhaps they can't see you? Just get a big gun with a large magazine, and sit down for the whole match, and you'll probably lead your team to victory and/or will be the points leader.

Sound: the sound is terrible, not even worth talking about, not sure how they went backward considering many of these weapons already existed, thus already had been previously recorded, meaning they somehow intentionally messed up...

Don't waste your time or money on this game for PS3, maybe it's better on a different platform.

Weapons and sounds are once again in a league of it's own. Loved playing BF4 MP when I was taking a break from GTA Online, sometimes got so obsessed with it I played it months on end. And as for the maps, these maps are the worst pile of dog splooge ive ever come across, this one map wich i already forgot the name of is so bad i had to give it a -5/10, you spawn as attackers in a big open field, and as for the defender they get some of the best clipping spots in shooter game history, as you just as an attacker are destined to die over and over untill you run out of tickets.

I started off playing the campaign to get a feel of the game first, and yes ive played all the battlefield games so i am not new at these types of games. The first level I found some WTF moments with the checkpoints. There was a point where you have to run down a hill and fall down a wall. The game did a checkpoint when i was at the bottom of the wall. Well i was faced with a convoy of enemies up ahead. Well I needed ammo. Go to the weapons cache you say. Well I would except it was at the top of the non-climbable wall!!!! Next option was to revert back to last checkpoint. Guess where it was...at the bottom of the wall. Only option was to restart that level all the way over and watch all the cut scenes, which cannot be skipped. I got to the same area and found the cache which was hidden in some other crates, easily missed. Another thing I noticed right off the bat was...wtf is up with these PS2 looking graphics? The game looks like total garbage. The textures look horrible from about 15 ft and away. EA definitely took a whole leap backwards from BF3 in the graphics department.

Alright, on to Multiplayer. EA also took a huge leap back with this as well. It is nearly impossible to group up with friends!!!! They took away the option to group up with friends in the lobby and then join a game. Your only option is to pray you get in a game and there is enough room for your friend, which im sure with in a few more months there will be plenty of space if EA keeps this up. I even tried going to server selection and the filter settings. I marked 1-15 slots open. The servers refresh and all get displayed is 24/24 on every server. I have tried since launch to play with friends and ive only gotten to play with one once. The rest of my friends are off doing their own stuff. Finally, My last statement before I submit this. The one time i did finally get in a game with my friend the game completely froze 5 times with in 15 min, this also happened in campaign mode several times.

The few things i like that they improved on was the character customization screen. A big upgrade from BF3. I guess that is really the only thing I like about this game... So, to let you know how good this game is... Since BF4 released, I've mainly been playing BF3...just to give you an idea of how bad it is.

A great game that could have got a deserved 9+ from almost everyone if it wasn't for the awful launch, bugs, crashes and high pings that are still plaguing multiplayer. The graphics, effects and sound as always is absolutely spot on and people who loved BF3 should love this as well when Dice sufficiently fix the game to actually make it playable that is.

Take out lots of the great features like customizable load-out and knife kills (I may have been thick on this but I couldn't work it out) and add in bugs such as freezing/locking environments that just suddenly dissapear and other great features designed to ruin game play for the end user.

Make the graphics look like they were designed to work on a PS1/PS2 even though your earlier release had great graphics. I know graphics aren't everything but when they are so bad you cant see what you are doing which kind of helps in a online shooter.

Make it impossible to join games from the lobby and then when people finally join games kick them out endlessly.

If you want to be really mean to consumers why not hold a beta prior to launch and ignore all the comments about what needs fixing and add new problems.

Dont forget to kill the servers for the earlier versions so people cant even go back to BF3 which works.

Make sure you pay certain sites to give great reviews and lie about how bad the game really is.

BF4 is a great exercise in how not to make a good title but as a multiplayer example its just a great example of how to epically fail.

The campaign is dirge. If you like single player stay the hell away. It's bad when CoD is beating you in campaign!! I'm not a fan of BF multiplayer so this game was a shocking disappointment after all the hollow promises. BF3 had a BETTER campaign. Re. multiplayer, Dice shouldn't ship for current consoles, it's a cash grab. They just can't support the game so it's patently dishonest.

Gameplay is horrid in this one, compared to others. I cannot get used to the weapons at all, it seems as if they all are very weak weapons, it takes a lot of hits to get the enemy down (When you know you hit him in the head 3-4 times, and he's still shooting, it just pisses you off).

This is a very boring game so far, and I am unhappy I spent good money on it.

I'm not going to bother playing until I see another update, just too frustrated with it right now.

IMO, this game is the disappointment of the year. The closer it got to the release date, the more I understood that it would be bad.
My major complain: this is not Battlefield 4, it's Battlefield 3.1. It's not step forward, it's step back.

This opinion is based only on ps3 version, not ps4 or pc.

Let's start with the campaign. It's one of the worst fps campaigns I've ever played: it's all cliche, it's boring, it doesn't use any of Battlefield mechanics. I made myself to finish it (I don't know why). The only good thing is the ending: unlike other games, here you have to make decisions faster :)

The most disappointing thing about the game graphics. Don't get me wrong, I don't judge game only by its look. But the visual element of the game is worse than in BF3.

The multiplayer didn't change a bit:
    - Yes, we've got commander mode similar to bf2, but I've played for a couple of hours as a soldier, and haven't seen any activities from the commanders. People don't even care: no one signs as a commander.
    - "Dynamic" maps. Yeah, the skyscraper can be destroyed, the doors can be closed: this is not a big improvement and in general the maps don't change.
    - The only change I really felt was that now we have different progression for class gear and weapons.

I don't understand, why we have to get rid off bf3 addons and start all over again. The maps are horrible, especially the big ones, where it's impossible to find other players. I prefer COD multiplayer to this one. If you've played bf3, you've played bf4.
I think that EA is jealous of COD, and they try to copy different elements from it. It's a bad practice. If you can't create a good campaign, don't even try to do it.

BTW, I'm not a fan of COD series but I get more fun from cod than bf4.
P.S. Also filters for servers work strange: no matter how many people on a server I filter it always shows full servers..

I have emptied 3 sets of burst shots into someone just to have them turn around and shoot me in the chest with 2 shots from a pistol and kill me. Shot people running around on the ground with fully auto shells from tanks just to have them keep running like its a cap gun. Shoot someone 4 or 5 times and then have them kill you showing 100% life still even though you watched the impact indicators before you die on them. Vehicle controls are sloppy as can be and the slightest turn sends them off the side of the road,. Destroying vehicles with anything but the torch is a long test of patience now seeing as they all seem to shrug off shells and rockets like they have some invisible shield. I had such high hopes for this game and have literally put over 200 hours of playtime into bf3, but I am pissed and want a refund. They took everything that was good about bf3 and changed it. The maps are not much fun to boot. Dice should be ashamed. Now i am reduced to either hoping people keep playing bf3 or jumping on the bandwagon of call of duty kids. They restricted the maps down to just around the objectives but have a bunch of rooftops to perch on, not really a plus in my opinion. The ground lacks in depth ground features leaving you out in the open to be quickly sniped and the flight areas are too small to make a jet worth flying. they added 40x and 20x scopes for the sniper rifles as well as a way to zero them in up to 1000 meters, but most maps aren't near big enough to make that viable. There may be a spot or two in every map to get a shot that long, if you want to just sit in the back of the map. it's supposed to be a squad based game but the dynamics of it really doesn't lend well to working as a squad, most of the time you have to split up and head different directions anyway just to cover all the areas, and the recon class with the IRNV goggles and 20x scopes is so over powered on these wide open maps that the only way to combat getting sniped constantly is with a sniper. they added a Designated Marksman Rifle class, which is an idea i love, but they totally botched it by not having any scopes higher than 4x to put on any of the rifles. They did away with team chat so you can't communicate with anyone outside your squad, so often you get stuck in a helicopter or a tank with somebody that you can't talk to. There's a lot of things that made BF3 a good game that they managed to completely fail on in this game, for example smoke grenades in BF3 actually provided smoke thick enough that you could use it to cover movement and actually push up on your enemy, the smoke grenades in BF4 are completely worthless, you can see straight through the tiny amount of smoke the entire time. As far as i'm concerned most of the Levolution stuff doesn't really add to the game play (or make up for what's lacking in it), it may be a neat treat for the easily amused, but in my opinion it's more of a silly distraction from what the true battlefield fans look for and enjoy in the game. I know most of the true Battlefield players that i've talked to have all said that adding more maps and more items to BF3 would have been preferable to this disappointment.
And i haven't even gotten the absolutely terrible technical performance of the game itself. It's absurd that they sold this as published title, the game has so many bugs and issues i'd say it's barely fit for play testing. I played it for a week with just the occasional 3 or 4 console freezes a day, but as of this morning, i can no longer play support class. my console freezes every single time i attempt to deploy as a Support gunner. I wouldn't bother continuing to play BF4 for a couple years like i did with BF3 without the premium package and the extra maps and whatever else comes with it, but as it stands now, i can't see myself paying anything more for this game. Maybe if they fixed all the bugs, made the items work effectively, and took the inferred off the Laser Designator, i may continue to play. Custom servers would be a huge improvement as well. EA has once again robbed me, not only of my money, but of a game i WAS looking forward to the release of.

The campaign is nonexistent as far as I am concerned, as it is utter horse (you know what), and the multiplayer is clunky, with a decisively overly complicated customization menu. It takes five minuets just to put your loadout together. Servers are slow, the game is just crap.

Going in you should expect low resolution textures, frame drops and missing features to be a common occurrence. However what was not expected was a mash up of a Battlefields identity with Call of Duty elements that ultimately serve to dumb down the entire experience. From bright red circles that highlight a grenades life span, extreme amounts aim assist at close range and vehicles that have been majority nerfed in every aspect to make the game easier. It's clear this is Dices best attempt to make Battlefield a game more accessible for the causal audience. On the flip side of the coin you have to question several design decisions as well. At release the game ships without a party system to play with friends which is unheard of in today's age of gaming. However the most absurd might be the lack of editing your weapons/vehicles in the games main menu system. Instead you are forced to actually go into a match and spend time tinkering with all sorts of unlocks while being completely useless to your team, or go log into battlelog on a tablet, or laptop and edit your loadouts remotely. Equally impressive is how Dice is centering the majority of unlocks on a lottery system called battlepacks. Instead of earning a scope by racking up experience with a gun, you are forced to unlock it by simple luck by opening battlepacks. It is a system that is solely designed to suck your wallet dry. Gameplay wise despite all of the above I still would consider Battlefield 4 to be the best of the shooters currently out. However that's not saying a lot considering today's state of the shooter market where it is cod or this. I found my experience overall a marginal upgrade from Battlefield 3 and when this game makes the switch to next generation simply adding 64 players and pretty graphics will not hide this titles flaws. I hope next time around Dice you create a true battlefield game and not a hybrid of call of duty... Expand

I mean come on DICE, can't you make a game is worth playing for generations? The game does feel more rushed than previous BF games and that's due to the COD feel that this game possesses, especially with the new unlockable camos/achievements that they added. Literally all the players/teammates in all the squads have started to worry about K/D and W/L rather than winning the actual match. Pathetic. Not to mention the unbalanced size of the maps when you try to play Rush and capture all the spots which enables the enemy teams to have the time to re-capture them. The whole game is off

I honestly feel like this was better off for Next-Gen consoles because all of the graphics are a step-down from BF3. I take that back, from BFBC1. Everything feels off, and connectivity is a huge issue especially with TDM. When you try and search for a TDM match in Quick Play, it freezes the console FORCING you to restart the whole system. The game is ridiculously buggy and is too minuscule to fit the 4th Title of the Battlefield Franchise.

Don't get me wrong. It's a good game, maybe it might seem like an awesome game to you gamers who couldn't just keep up with the technology upgrades, but going from all the attention it attracted, I expected something bigger.

The campaign is decent. The story is better than the one we had to go through in Battlefield 3, but that really isn't much. Compared to it's predecessor, in terms of graphics, there is a slight improvement. The voice acting is very good, and the multiplayer is good, but not really something major. We'll get to that later. We'll first review the single player campaign.

As I said, the single player story is good. I expected a more refined experience, but it was good nonetheless. The characters were really well-developed, and there were some really heart-wrenching moments there. Starting from the well-doing Irish, to the obeying rookie Pac, each of the characters had one or two traits that made them unique, even those who had a relatively small role in the game. However, some of the effects were just too bad for a triple A game like Battlefield. In a mission right around the beginning of the game, there were a few what appeared to be dolphins jumping out of the water. But the effects were so bad, they looked like they were flying while shaking their booties mid-air. There were also some really weird bugs, with one particular enemy not dying after receiving two shots in the head.

The multiplayer was also good, however it didn't just provide the same atmosphere I thought it would. The scale of the map is to be praised. The map's huge, and when it reached the maximum of players, it gave you that feeling that you're in a real battlefield. It even allowed for squad co-operation, which was good. But, the Levitation thing didn't offer that much excitement. Apparently, in the Shanghai map, you could only destroy the skyscraper. As awesome as that was, I expected more major stuff to be destroyed there and offer me more excitement. And there was something wrong with the framerate. I had played the demo before, and I had noticed that the framerate was a letdown, however I thought that they would fix it. They did, but they didn't try hard. The framerate is still not good enough.

Overall, I really suggest that you buy this, if you are fan or if you are a newcomer to first person shooters. I assume that if you are a fan, you'll buy this anyway, but still..

I've played through the campaign, it was playable but forgettable. At least it was playable up until you turn your system off or quit out and the game decides to delete your entire campaign save file. But lets make no mistake about it, battlefield is all about the multiplayer and i'm basing my review solely on that.

Why the hell is there no party system of any kind for christ sake? Bf3 party system wasn't great and caused numerous joining problems but at least it existed! why just remove something so vital completely? Won't moan about connection issues just yet as sadly it's now become inevitable the first month minimum of most games have major connection issues, it shouldn't be the case that people just accept it but i trust it will be sorted eventually!

Other stupid omissions from the game like not being able to quick search for a particular map or not being able to skip the full servers in the server browser make finding a game very tedious. Not being able to customise your loadout in the menu's, meaning you either do it via battlelog (I actually like battlelog in general and this feature in particular) or you do it in game and lose about half the game time customising instead of actually playing the game.

When you get past all that and manage to get into a game the gameplay is mainly standard battlefield, it's what we've come to expect and there isn't really much need for any core changes. However i've noticed a few cod-like gameplay tweaks sneaking in such as taking less bullets to dying, you're dead before you even realise you're being shot at and try to respond and the overhaul of the sniper class is dreadful, it just feels very very easy and overpowered now whereas in previous battlefield games the sniper class was something only good players could play effectively. They are small changes but have made the game considerably less skillful and enjoyable in my eyes.

Finally the maps. The levolution inclusion is a great innovative feature. I feel there;s only a few maps where it actually changes the way the map is played in any noticeable way but it bodes very well for future bf installments. The overall layout of the maps are fairly poor though. The conquest maps aren't too bad, there's a decent variety in there but most maps either feel too open or too enclosed with no middle ground. There are no maps that spring to mind as a potential battlefield classic but most are playable. When you switch to a smaller game mode however such as team deathmatch or domination the maps in general are fairly poorly designed, in particular floodzone is absolutely terrible.

Overall, there are a lot more things wrong with this game than there was with bf3. It's by no means a bad game but given the potential it's so far disappointing. Luckily, most of the issues are easily fixed so lets just hope Dice/EA get their fingers out of their arse's and do so soon.

Even though Activision gets criticised for their repetitive gameplay at least they don't have these game breaking bugs.

That's not even mentioning the hostile portrayal of the Chinese in the Campaign lol. Civil war in China with the Yanks interefering of course. At least they get one part right, Americans interfering with other countries' affairs but DICE portrays Chinese as warmongers intent on starting WWIII. Irony much. Sweden's DICE why must you behave as america's lapdog.

We're finally starting to see the age of the current console generation. Couldn't help but think how dated this game looks at this point. Still, it's a good time and I'll sink a ton of hours into it. Sure, it seems very familiar, but the excitement is still there. Can't wait to see it on PS4. PS: The flood zone stage is very annoying.

It's a riot! There are maps which reveal the system's age more than others.....conquest maps really spread the graphic rendering capacity thin. But, even so, the gun handling...the exquisite audio...the destruction...the epic feel of it all gelling smoothly together more than makes up for any graphical shortcomings. As it's been said a billion times before...."it's the gameplay that matters". That being said, nobody does FPS multiplayer gameplay like DICE and Battlefield. PS3 version easily gets a 9...and, from what I've seen, next gen and PC versions clear a 10 without breaking a sweat :D Expand

You don't give a multiplayer-based game a zero-3 for campaign, that's stupid and you should slap your self in the face again. If you gave it a low score for the visuals then you fail to understand how advanced this game is, our 8 year old ps3/360 hardware can't handle this game. DICE had the misfortune of making this game on current gen when it's CLEARLY a next gen game.

They've added A LOT of features and cool gameplay methods that left me so satisfied. If you play the game right then you would notice the difference between this Battlefield and the previous installment. If you gave it a low score from the gameplay aspect then you probably went into each match guns-a-blazing, which is not how you play. This is a tactical and strategic game and you simply can't bring your COD methods into it or you will fail.

I understand if you knock off a few points for the mediocre campaign and a few online glitches, but try to get it through your thick skulls that this is a next generation game. These problems won't occur on the right hardware. I can't WAIT to pick this up on PS4 where there will be 64 times more fun!

Best BF game by far. Unlike COD you're seeing this outstanding shift away from the old mold into something completely (well not completely, but mostly) new. Graphics are outstanding, gameplay is otherworldly. Weapons and special features are mindblowing. Just generally a great game, and pretty damn original especially for an EA game.

Battlefield 4 is in no way a rehash of 3, it is in fact a definite improvement. For being the original "levolution" creator (Not Infinity Ward), DICE has been able to dynamically change the field in which you play. The player progression has gotten a total overhaul, with weapon usage unlocking newer weapons. This allows player to stick with what they like, while gaining that progression, and only trying out new weapons if they want to.

No one can expect the game to run flawlessly within the first month of release. And as multiplayer games become more and more complex, they WILL have those issues. DICE does a great job on staying on top of the problems that arise. They practically fixed their DDoS attack in less than 24 hours, and they continuously pay attention to what is going on within the community and correcting missed mistakes, no matter how many there may be.

I'm giving BF4 a 10 because they have proven, even if not to everyone, but at least to me, that they know what it takes to make a great FPS. CoD should not be the basis for what an FPS needs to look like. That's old news. That idea needs to evolve. And DICE may not accomplish it with BF4, but this clearly shows that they are on the right track.

OK first off, I was a COD fanboy and NEVER played BF before. Have bought all COD games since COD4. I even bought Ghosts a few days ago, but returned it cause its the same crap. I thought Id give this a try..

I must say I'm impressed. Can graphics be better? Sure but they probably are on the PC and will be when I upgrade to PS4. I love that you can have 20 or more players in a game.

I must say I'm impressed. Can graphics be better? Sure but they probably are on the PC and will be when I upgrade to PS4. I love that you can have 20 or more players in a game. Actually feels like a war cause so much is going on. The sounds of the guns is good and I really like the "twing" as bullets ricochet of the ground etc. There's something really satisfying about being able to use a heavy machine gun to destroy a will and kill the guy behind it. I've heard people say that this game is slower and COD is fast paced. Really, being a COD fan, playing domination with 19 other guys is far more frantic that any COD game I've played. There are people and bullets flying everywhere and the physics of the guns is much better. They can actually kill you. Unlike COD where you empty a clip at a guy from 100m and yet he still manages to charge you with a knife and kill you.

Is it a rehash? Dont know as I never played BF before. For a newcomer, this game, although not perfect, is a very nice and refreshing change from the plate of crap I kept buying in COD.

I love this game. The graphics, destruction, dynamic gameplay, etc. in this game are spectacular. However, it doesn't go unnoticed that DICE hasn't greatly improved much. Yes, you can collapse roads now and there are big set pieces in each map, but these are guilty pleasures and not great improvements to the game. Regardless, this game is one of the best this year, besides GTA V perhaps.

The game has kept almost all the good things from its predecessors and added several new ones. The best thing about BF4 for me personally is the restored balance between capabilities of vehicles and foot soldiers which was sorely missing from Battlefield 3. Thankfully an adequately equipped soldier is a good match for any in game vehicle. Helicopters and tanks are very capable and dangerous but with some care they can be blown up even by a barely leveled up infantryman which is how it should be in a game. Contrary to some reviewers I find even zero level equipment both for soldiers and vehicles deadly enough which is also a good step away from BF3.

Then there is the levolution of course. Not all maps are created equal, but on most maps the effect of triggering the levolution event is both visually spectacular and can significantly alter the flow of the battle. Apart from levolution buildings and terrain in BF4 maps is definitely more destructible than in BF3. Some maps can be leveled completely, some only partially but any cover can be damaged or even removed completely by gunfire and explosives.

The only real problem I have with Battlefield 4 is that Dice and Electronic Arts have released a work in progress. Even a month after the release on PS3 there still are interface bugs, network hiccups and not so rare slowdowns and complete freezes during multiplayer matches. The game could a perfect fps experience and it will be, but judging from the current progress we will have to wait till March 2014 for that.

The levoluiton is cool and while some levels are meh and i wish the player count was up but the smaller scale battles don't have that problem. The really unfortunate thing with this Premium nonsense is that the greater body of players are made to feel like they're travelling in economy class, so that the core fans can be milked. I'm not anti-DLC, but the way Battlefield Premium constantly thrusts at you just feels grubby. It's not a nice way to treat paying customers, and it's a pity to see it besmirch such a great game.
