    Why hasn't this game been better received? I've only just discovered it as a free demo on the PlayStation Network and the mutiplayer dogfights are excellent fun.

    You can play either with strangers or set up a password proteted game with friends. Yes the menu graphics are poor and the voice acting is laughable but, to my mind, it's the gameplay that counts and this is good old school    Why hasn't this game been better received?     You can play either with strangers or set up a password proteted game with friends. Yes the menu graphics are poor and the voice acting is laughable but, to my mind, it's the gameplay that counts and this is good old school arcade fun. For those that prefer more of a challenge on the controls there is a "simulation" setting with separate stick control for pitch and roll & button rudder control for yaw.

    Everyone I've introduced this to loves the mutiplayer and we've had some good competitive battles. Ignore the critics and try it for yourself - you may like it !!!    … Expand

    I stopped playing this game after 23 missions out of 50. I kept telling myself: hey, this game will get better, it will stop being boring and annoying! Well...., It did not. It's that bad and I'll tell you why.
    First: the story is very weak and keeps telling you about the good old days of air combat in WWI. Not that this is necessarily annoying but it is when talked about in the middle    I stopped playing this game after 23 missions out of 50.     First: the story is very weak and keeps telling you about the good old days of air combat in WWI. Not that this is necessarily annoying but it is when talked about in the middle of an air fight! Furthermore, the voices are not my cup of tea either. Everyone seems to have a need for a heavy Scottish, Russian or French accent. The lead character has a whining heavy french accent and complains just about anything you can think of. Second: the game play is very repetitive. If you have a mission where you have to fight a wave of enemy fighter planes or a battery of AA, the game throws in another wave or battery and another and another which is boring. Now, for my biggest complaint about the game: there are a LOT of missions that you have to complete within a certain time limit. Sometimes this can be very interesting or suspenseful in some games. For example when it helps the story. Or where there is a timer for another good reason. In this game, such good reasons are absent. In 90% of the timer based missions, there is no need for it and it is only annoying and irrelevant.
    Avoid this game. I wish i had done that before.    … Expand

    One of my favorite action air sim games ever, especially of because of the 3D (stereoscopic), the action gameplay, the engaging story and the big change in the missions.

    I don't care that the story is told by voices and non-moving comic pictures: I got more stuck to it than the standard animated hero stories, because the change and development of the non-heroic heroine and her friends makes me more identify and feels more realistic how war has been to those who got caught up in it. And the missions and even airplanes are so different from one another that it is a joy. The biggest pity is the pretty short story and the pretty unpractical cockpit views which lead you to fly either from behind the plane or cockpitless front view.    … Expand

    A very decent arcade style flight sim. Mostly nice graphics, also when the ground looks a bit bland, beautiful aircraft models, a lot of different air craft to fly and different mission types. I like the story a lot, because it is not that typical usa-patriot-hero-war-lover but a story of a protagonist, who doesn't care about the war and at first just wants to earn money, but gets draggedA very decent arcade style flight sim.     A few high points in the story don't make up for overly simplified and very repetitive gameplay. Any veteran of flight games will be bored senseless, and the plain look of the game will turn off casual players.

    The budget price is nice, but all that's keeping Secret Wars from feeling like a PSN title are its decent length and online dogfighting options. [Nov 2011, p.87]
