JeffMar 13, 2003a 0? a 0? this means that ZOE2 has nothing at all to make it a video game. a stick would get a 0, not a brilliantly animated, well thought out awesomely fun one such as this. You, my friend are the one who is pathetic.

Oct 3, 2012This is a great game with fantastic gameplay and good graphics for its time. It makes full use of all the PS2's hardware, utilizing the pressure sensitive buttons and rumble for the controller and pushing the system's GPU to it's limit. The anime style is well presented, and even manages to hold up fairly well against the test of time.

Dec 26, 2013Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner is what the original Zone of the Enders should have been. Its excellent combat system, combined with blowing up everything in sight, makes for an enjoyable gameplay experience. The game also looks excellent and the soundtrack is amazing. The story is interesting and entertaining. The only downside is that this is a short game.

Oct 3, 2010This game builds on the original but takes everything and the whole concept to the next level. Graphics, sound, gameplay are all extremely polished to the level that it makes it hard to believe this game is a PS2 game.

Dec 21, 2014In one word: OUTSTANDING.
This IS a true classic game. I cannot find any flaw whatsoever. Story, Characters, Music (to this day I still listen to the opening song from time to time), battle mechanics, animation, character growth, robots, graphics, etc. Everything is just awesome.
if you haven't played this game, go and play it! It is highly addictive, it is fun. This is how games should be! -

Jan 15, 2014Combat of this game is incredibly broken and the camera wonks out constantly. That being said its an amazing story despite its flaws. Difficulty is pretty insane so I recommend playing on easy. That or face game over screens every 10 minutes.

Mar 8, 2016Zone Of The Enders: 2nd Runner is a superb title that outdoes ZOE1 in every area. Everything has been improved from ZOE1. The combat, cut-scenes, graphics, plot, everything! I somehow enjoyed this game MORE than it's predecessor, MGS2. If you get the chance, buy 2nd Runner along with MGS3, because if you don't, you need to see a doctor.

kyuudmcFeb 25, 2009I just cant give this game a score lower than 9 !!! but unfortunately, its critically underrated and was a commercial disaster considering its a Hideo Kojima game! Too bad we probably wouldn't see a sequel. Anyway, ZOE2 is must have for any Playstation 2 owner.

Jul 24, 2023Iconic art direction, solid music score and the gameplay is alright. It has a lot of potential to be a really amazing game but the combat lacks depth and thus the level design often has to resort to various gimmicks to make up for it. It is a shame there isn't that many games like this which could take the formula further and expand upon it.
-
Apr 22, 2018A major improvement over its predecessor.
This game takes the formula from the original game and makes it better. The weapons finally are useful in combat, the main character has more personality, and the story is a huge step up compared to the original. -
Aug 22, 2023Just a perfect game. I loved it when it was released. Even if nowadays it's gameplay could be considered a bit repetitive, the RPG elements anemic at best, and the replayability close to zero, it was, for a while, one of the most visually stricking games available. The nostalgia factor might be at play here, not gonna lie.

Electronic Gaming MonthlyGameplay is instinctive, chaotic, and breathtaking. Unfortunately, the entire thing is still very linear, a bit too segmented, and repetitive. [May 2003, p.124]
-
The game is very story-heavy and linear because of the heavy focus on story. Outside of that, though, the game is a vast improvement over the previous game.
-
An improvement in just about every way.
