Slightly inferior to Battle For Bikini Bottom but nevertheless a great game and one of my all-time favourites. Special recognition to the music (this applies to BFBB as well)

It's kind of funny to see what kind of ratings some of these games get from the "pros". This is actually an excellent game. I bought it for my 5 year old and was very surprised at how fun it was. Spongebob and Patrick have multiple interesting attacks, plus there are driving, sliding and exploration levels. A very good game.....shame on the ciritcs.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie was an admittedly adequate movie, and so is its video game. Pros: Varied gameplay; hilarious; more depth in level design than Battle for Bikini Bottom. Cons: Still hideous graphics and visuals; lacks the depth in platforming its predecessor had.

I don't think there's a single person in the U.S. who doesn't know what SpongeBob is. So, after 5 years of success, Nickelodeon released a movie starring everyone's favorite sea critter. So, after 5 years of success, Nickelodeon released a movie starring everyone's favorite sea critter. So, obviously, a video game came along. When developers make a movie based off a video game, you already know its gonna stink. I thought this game was. But I was pleasantly surprised to find a game with modest characters and storylines, charming graphics, and your usual Hawaiian-Dance-Electronic SpongeBob musical score. You know the story because you bought the game because you saw the movie, so I don't need to explain. You can play as either SpongeBob or Patrick while venturing through 18 levels. The levels and their mission are very creative, ranging from a toxic waste dump to an ice cream themed nuthouse. What's good about the movie is that the story doesn't get carried away to the point where it feels nothing like the movie, and I like that. There is some replay ability in this game for if you're a 100 percent type of person, you can go back and pick up treasure chests, that unlock all kinds of little SpongeBob goodies; sketches, movies, various noises the characters make and more. The enemies and half-pint villain are always hilarious, this game being no exception. The patty wagon and slope levels they've incorporated are amusing, and even the run, jump and collect levels can be fun. In this game, the item that's most important is the Goofy Goober tokens. This is the equivalent of Golden Spatulas in Battle of Bikini Bottom. Just like manliness points are shiny objects and treasure chests are inspired off of Patrick's socks. The game, in many respects, is Battle for Bikini Bottom 2. As much as I like this game, there are some issues. I think its almost too similar to Battle of Bikini Bottom. Sure, it has some new ideas, but it recycles too many things and just puts a new coat of paint on. Also, the first 3 bosses are kinda cheap. The first time I battled the frogfish, it only took me 2 minutes to beat him. It only took me 93 seconds to beat Dennis on the first try, and when I fought him on Hasslehoff, It only took me 55 seconds on the first try. (I timed all 3)The final guy was a decent challenge, but he seemed impossible compared to frogfish and Dennis. But if those are the 2 biggest problems, It must be good. And it is. Its probably one of the best film based games. My final rating would be a 7.4, but since this dumb thing wont let me give it that, I'll round and give it a 7. Expand

Once again, I played "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie" video game a lot when I was a kid, and I was interested in revisiting the title, just as I had done with the two previous "SpongeBob" games on PlayStation 2. This one yielded some fun, but it came at a cost.
"The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie" game is structurally similar to "Battle for Bikini Bottom," and as such, it retains a lot of what made that game fun: the controls are still solid, the characters are still as charming as ever, the visuals are good, and overall, there's some fun to be had here. The game does feel like the movie, minus a few missions, and overall it feels the way that a "SpongeBob" game should feel.
That said, there are some obvious flaws. For starters, beyond being "structurally similar" to "Battle for Bikini Bottom," "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie" almost feels like a copy-and-paste of "Battle for Bikini Bottom," and while that's not a TERRIBLE thing because they are both fun, it does feel a bit too lazy and overly safe for Heavy Iron. On top of that, the game just isn't as exciting as its spiritual predecessor, and it's inexplicably difficult for a game meant for a younger audience. "Battle for Bikini Bottom" had a nice amount of challenge, but wasn't overly difficult. This one was very challenging when considering the audience they were shooting for, and the mission structure started to stale out after a while.
All in all, "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie" video game is a fun adventure overall if you find it at a good price, but don't expect it to live up to "Battle for Bikini Bottom."

I think "what the heck, this is actually really good!" is a good description here. First off, ignore that this is a sponge-bob game. second off, ignore its a licensed game at all. Once you have done both those things, you have yourself one the best 3-D platformers on the PlayStation 2/GameCube generation.

Mixing all this together makes for a varied and exciting experience. There's several missions on every level (just like in Super Mario 64) and you unlock a bunch of special content (art, sound, videos and costumes) by just playing the game.

This is what every Spongebob game should be like: a game enjoyed by both kids and adults.

[ Edited as of 2/2/2017 ] The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie manages to slide its game before its movie counterpart to face numerous other licensed games of 2004 and outmatch them all to even the results with its superior spiritual predecessor named Battle for Bikini Bottom.

Battle for Bikini Bottoms redheaded step-child. Not as good, it is like an expansion. The only standout thing about it is its Super Mario Sunshine-esque bonus levels. It is a good game, but if compared to Battle for Bikini Bottom it doesnt even come close.

This game follows the plot of the 2004 Spongebob movie, basically adapting various areas in the movie into levels that take you through the plot via 3D platforming and puzzle solving.
Each area is well designed with appropriate music and the controls are very functional, with special areas being scattered around in various levels for extra challenges.

There is a neat upgrade feature for the moves you receive in this game that makes going out of your way to collect points in levels have a real purpose. You'll want to go out of your way to collect upgrade points just so you can upgrade your moves to make things easier. There are also secret chests hidden in levels as well that give you bonus concept art, character costumes and music and the extras section of the menu.

The difficulty balance in this game is a little bit tipped to one side, with it being very clear that you require at least some knowledge in 3D platforming and some prior practice in order to do many challenges and even beat some later levels. It actually took me 7 years of on/off play and multiple playthroughs to finally figure out how to beat the final boss.

All in all this game is great and fill me with nostalgia whenever I play it. If you are a Spongebob fan or just a fan of 3D platformers, you may very well enjoy this game yourself.

A game base on the first SpongeBob movie. It is an enjoyable game, that doesn't offer anything of particular note, but what it does offer allows for it to be a solid experience. It has fluid graphics, with creative use of level designs, and moves that are loyal to the movie. It is a good game to pick up and play any time. It's not perfect, but it is definitely entertaining.

    So close to greatness.

This game feels a little off to me. Much of the games content involves out of world obstacle courses or replaying the same level 5 times with slightly different rules.

Besides the inclusion of gameplay padding techniques, the game feels full and complete besides that fact. The platforming levels are the best bits with interesting challenges and puzzles.
