This game is a masterpiece of RPG/RTS combination. O.K. the translation is rubbish, and the inclusion of movies for your characters instead of hand drawn pictures would have been better, but the gameplay is solid enough to hold the game up (along with the cool WW2 images with mechs in them. Top class!)

When it comes to WW2 style (its set two decades after) Mech RPG turn based games, RIng of Red is the best (and only) there has ever been,

Over the course of about 30 hours of play, you'll build up a team of variious heavy light and melee mechs or AFW's and battle across Japan chasing down a traitor and slowly uncover a larger plot. The combat while appearing simply at first, becomes extremely complex when you have to worry about more then just loading and aiming. Infantry skills, positioning, distance, daylight and special shells all come into play by an hour in and it might take a few play throughs to master this unique system.

It's a must play for mech, or strategy enthusiasts.

This is an excellent strategy game. It takes us to an alternate reality where AFWs exist. I think this would captivate most strategy fans.

The battle between you and the enemy when you are looking down on the iron sight slowly watching the numbers Rise while trying to hit them before they hit you so you can make the accuracy and slower. It's so satisfying in amazing.

The alternative history plot is very interesting and the characters and maybe not the deepest but they're fun and they have some stories to tell it is the world that is the most interesting part

I have 2 criticise to the game the first one is that the animation can take way too long for the foot unit and the text in the battle and The maps can take way too long and you have no saves except for temporary is the last battle took me 4 1/2 hours. the game is absolute worth playing it's a hidden gym and it's amazing and if you have if freeMCboot memory card you can force the game 480p

This is a combination of turn based rpg and real time strategy you have to carefully choose your soldiers according to the afw type and see what works best and keep an eye on the time limit during battles, missions can take a long time to finish but it's very addictive once you get used to it, and there's a save option during battles however once charged the save file will no longer existThis is a combination of turn based rpg and real time strategy you have to carefully choose your soldiers according to the afw type and see what works best and keep an eye on the time limit during battles, missions can take a long time to finish but it's very addictive once you get used to it, and there's a save option during battles however once charged the save file will no longer exist so to resume a battle always save before leaving this only affect the in-battle save file, i think graphics could be better and the sound quality sounds good, this is an absolute must play
PS: the soundtrack during battles for me sounds like a theme in godfather movie "solozzo and tom meeting" and "the hospital scene michael and enzo"

Also, the combat system relied heavily in RNG, and playing it safe was punished, so you had to take risks all the time, which sometimes literally ruined 2 hour longs battles and you had to restart it all. The concept and the style were amazing, but the execution was... problematic. Still, i remember loving it. Expand

  1. Easily the best strategy game out on the PS2 at this time, not to mention one of the more inventive to ever grace a console.

A solid title, featuring a believable and interesting storyline, plenty of missions to work through, and even good graphics. However, it can get very tedious at times, testing the patience of the most tolerant of gamers.
  3. One of the best action strategy games I have ever played.
