Yes the omake material is lazy but the stuff that was actually made by the programming team themselves, the actual product you're paying for - every inch of it smells of a product where those in control knew exactly what to do with it. [JPN Import]

A fun game marred by a lack of innovation. It looks good and sounds decent, but most of what you'll find in One Piece has been done before and done better.

It's a rarity for any fighting anime game to have any sort of substance, style and especially, playability. Bandai has done an exceptional job in capturing the show's trademark comedy and battles.

Light on substance and heavy on style. If you're a One Piece madman who simply has to have everything to do with the series, it's not a horrible game. It's just not exceptional. As a multiplayer party game, it's good for a quick fix every once in a while.

There's enough content and replay value to keep you busy for hours -- even more if you hook up with friend. Factoring all the elements this title offers makes it a no-brainer for anyone who's wanted a fighter that's simple to play, entertaining, and offers long-term value.

The only thing that keeps One Piece from being a must-buy is that it needs more game modes (online, survival, team battle, etc.) [Nov 2005, p.88]
  7. An uncreative yet valiant attempt at a lighthearted arena battler, if one with a somewhat tiresome presentation.
  8. It feels pretty clunky for a fighting game, and only those die-hard One Piece fans will claw their way through this title.

The traditional core mechanics and all-out wackiness should propel it near the top of the heap. It's a very solid effort, particularly when compared to most anime fighters. [Nov 2005, p.96]
  10. Bandai and Ganbarion hit the nail on the head making this title mimic the One Piece anime, yet placed it into a genre that allowed them to add their own flavor to the series.
  11. Offers enough to amuse some friends on a Friday night, and more than enough to please hardcore fans of the original anime.

I haven't enjoyed a fighting game this much in years. [Oct 2005, p.70]
  13. As a single-player experience, One Piece is inadequate; as a two-player romp, it won't hold your interest for long, even (and almost especially) if you're a fan of the One Piece anime or manga.
  14. What sets it apart from the rest, though, is the much more lighthearted and more adventurous feel it holds.
  15. 50
Unremarkable, offering none of the flash or depth of other fighting games based on an anime license.

A title perfect for gamers of any age. It's safe for kids as there's only animated violence and it sports a simplified control scheme, yet it has enough content and challenge to keep experienced adult gamers entertained for quite some time.
