    Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was one of 2004's best action games. Pacing and camera issues keep it from being a masterpiece, but it's still great. Chronologically, this is the very first entry in the MG universe and features Big Boss as the protagonist. It's set in the Soviet Union jungle during the Cold War of 1964. The gameplay is similar to the previous game with a new set ofMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was one of 2004's best action games. Pacing and camera issues keep it from being a masterpiece, but it's still great. Chronologically, this is the very first entry in the MG universe and features Big Boss as the protagonist. It's set in the Soviet Union jungle during the Cold War of 1964. The gameplay is similar to the previous game with a new set of mechanics. In "Snake Eater", players must use camo to blend into the environment to avoid detection. This is also a survival game since you must stay healthy by hunting for food and tending injuries. The pace is slow due to the lack of an effective radar. You'll have to rely on binoculars, a sonar system and motion tracker to spot enemies. Unfortunately, the overhead camera angle can be a problematic. As a result, it can be difficult to maneuver around enemy soldiers. Despite its flaws, this is a terrific Metal Gear game. The Ape Escape mini-game is great silly fun. Overall, I would rate Snake Eater with a 9.4 out of 10.… Expand

    This is my favourite game of all time, it is so perfect and it nails everything it does flawlessly, Kojima truly is a genius, the gameplay is amazing and the music is *chefs kiss*.

    MGS3 is probably one of those game that could be the best game ever, but because of the gameplay, it was nearly ruined. The story was meh. The Boss is cool character and enjoyed the boss designs. Soundtrack is probably one of the best things about the game tho.

    De los mejores juegos del mundo, tanto la historia como los gráficos son lo mejor para esa epoca, es el primero cronológicamente de la saga metal gear y definitivamente es lo mejor, tiene una mezcla perfecta entre fantasía y datos reales, los personajes son geniales y realmente sientes como brotan los sentimientos de ti al ver el final. 10/10 y GOTY

Different characters. Many of them have special powers. More fantastic. The game gets emotionally high towards the end. Especially the "snake eater" soundtrack is awesome.     What a thrill!!! This game is my top PS2 game, story, music, voice acting, the camouflage mechanic, the trolling on Raiden lookalike, I still tear on the salute grave scene. It's just the perfect game for me.

    This game is my favourite game in the Metal Gear Solid series. It has a great gameplay for a 2004 game
    and its the first TPS game in the series. Story was excellent and brilliant.

    No puedo olvidar la primera vez que jugué este maravilloso título en mi ps2, a mi opinión el mejor MGS de todos. Si bien puede que ahora se sienta un poco viejo, esto en su tiempo era simplemente maravilloso en cada sentido, la oroginalidad de los jefes y tantas cosas maravillosas que hacen que este juego esté en mi top 3 juegos de ps2.

    Played this game when I was like 8 years old. I was impressed that when the PS3 came out that this game just looked better than some PS3 games. This game uses everything the PS2 got.
    I remember when I finished the game for the first time. This is truly a unique experience.

    Con esta precuela se alcanzó una mayor dimensión al concepto de supervivencia y de subsistir en medio de un entorno hostil, sin el abuso del radar, con un sistema de
    camuflaje que te mimetizaba con el entorno, cazabas tu propia comida y esta se iba pudriendo por un sistema de horas real, como si pasaran días, el combate de CQC con
    un amplio abanicos de movimiento, para reducir al enemigo que hizo más dinámico infiltrarse y hasta poder interrogar enemigos, contando con hasta un menú de autovendaje, para sanar heridas, ya fuera por entablillar huesos rotos, envenenamiento o heridas que requerían sutura y aguja. Con uno de los finales más emotivos de la historia de los videojuegos. Y en el que hasta el más machirulo toxiquito de gym, con barba pero depilado, con frágil heterohombría podía derramar una lagrimita. Kojima bien.

    3. Metal Gear Ac!d 2
    Por desgracia el más infravalorado, el cual mezclaba el sistema de cartas rpg, con el sigilo dando una experiencia muy enriquecedora y que no tuvo el reconocimiento que merecía. Se echa en falta una remasterización.

    4. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
    Raiden tenía su propio juego y Platinum rescato un proyecto que se estaba hundiendo. Nada podia salir mal, pero el resultado no está exento de un desarrollo apresurado, downgrade, escasa duración pero que a pesar de estos inconvenientes no empañan para nada un título que me ha aportado muchísimas horas de diversión. Sentirse como un charcutero sociópata sin repercusión alguna es algo que no tiene precio.

    5. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain
    Konami y las Kojimadas, un juego inacabado, un mundo abierto, y posibilidades infinitas que llevan la experiencia Metal Gear a otro nivel. **** Konami.

    6. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
    Kojima ya empezaba a delirar un poquito y el altar a su propio ego era más que evidente. No se conformaba ya con autorreferencias, no.
    Un autohomenaje a Shadow Mosses y un enfrentamiento de Robots, fanservice, fanservice del robot de Snatcher, y apelación a la nostalgia.
    Pero ojo; Rex contra Ray, queredme. Kojima comprándonos con peleítas de roboses armados con penes laseriseles de la muerte. Kojima mal.

    7. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
    El que asentaría las bases y empezaría a instaurar el lore. Muchas de las ideas presentes serian un precedente de cara a las siguientes entregas. Esconderse en un cubo de fregar o bajo una alfombra me parece muy cómico.

    8. Metal Gear: Ghost Babel
    Quizás el más divisorio, amado y odiado a partes iguales, algunos ni siquiera lo consideran cannon. Un homenaje a los Metal Gear de la MSX. Apto solo para gente que le gusta sufrir. Un intento de llevar los clásicos de 8 bits a la portátil de Game Boy Color, no del todo acertado... Mal llevado.

    9. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
    El salto gráfico fue brutal en aquel entonces. Y aunque a muchos machirulos tóxicos les escoció el protagonismo de Raiden, es otro de los Metal Gear más queridos. Personalmente pienso que ha envejecido bastante mal.

I think me and many others wanted to see the story carried out via the first two solid games to be continued in snake eater but MGS3 brought us another beast entirely. From a gameplay standpoint MGS3 feels like the final composed step in the Metal Gear franchise with abstract tactical gameplay, monolithic cutscenes and dialogs, out of worldly characters andA truly earned disappointment! I think me and many others wanted to see the story carried out via the first two solid games to be continued in snake eater but MGS3 brought us another beast entirely. From a gameplay standpoint MGS3 feels like the final composed step in the Metal Gear franchise with abstract tactical gameplay, monolithic cutscenes and dialogs, out of worldly characters and interactions and over the top action happening everywhere... But the story... That's when the game stumbles a bit. Unlike the first two games which had bombastic espionage action going on with all the different sorrow and woe themes... This one doesn't feel like a harrowing experience. MGS3 is like a 1980's action thriller with phenomenal character work but thin as paper story build up. I wanted to see all these characters do their thing but the story couldn't hold me for it... i just needed that gameplay action instead. Despite lacking the bravura layers of MGS 2, the third installment is a brilliant exercise in video game experimenting and it deserves a 9/10 easily for offering such a smooth espionage action.… Expand

    This is by far the best Stealth game ever created. Not only does it have excellent game-play, but it explains the Origins of The Big Boss A.K.A "Snake". It's not only a Steath game, but a survival game as well. In order to stay alive you have to find food. And what better food in the Jungle than Animals. You can eat a variety of creatures such as Fish, snakes, birds, toads, and basically anything you can get your hands that breaths(except people). But keep it to long it expires and if snake eats it, you can get sick and die. HOW COOL IS THAT?!

    Another thing I really dig in this amazing game is the variety of Camoflauge you can wear. Everything from Treebark(which is my favorite), to Tigerstripe, to moss, and to White Kubuki masks! Its best if you choose the Cameo that fits the environment. There's even down loadable camos. If you have a game adapter, just pop the game in, plug the adapter into your PC and find a site that you can download from. I think there is a Mummy cameo, your life goes down slower and you can take more damage, Grenade cameo, it gives you infinite grenades, and a Santa suit that keeps you warm in cold environments.

    This game has the best storie line in the entire Metal Gear series. The bosses are incredible. There's a spider type guy, a dead eye sharp shooter, and even a GHOST! There are tones of other bosses to face too.

    All in All, one of my favorite video games and an incredible installment to the Metal Gear Solid series. 10 stars out of 10 all the way.    … Expand

    I played it after playing MGSV: TPP and don't find the excitement as good as MGSV. I know it came from the previous years but still it's what I expect vs something it gives. Probably the best way to give the "best" rating is play the game when it's happening

    Brilliant story and amazing stealth gameplay. The bosses were really good and the environments were superb. Gunplay can feel dated but other than that I highly recommend you play mgs3!

    Its a great game. the gameplay holds up well to todays standards. my only complaint is that the boss fights aren't really interesting. The only ones i liked were The end and The boss. I think this game is a great introduction to the Metal gear franchise because there aren't really any confusing stuff. overall this is a great Metal gear game

    Good game. Music is great, story is great, graphics has aged well. My only downside would be the gameplay mechanics, specifically shooting mechanics. It's so frustrating. But i can see that this game would be 10/10 easily at time of release

The gameplay of mgs3 has to be one of the most subtly depthful in any of the games I have played, most games that spout depthful gameplay usually are not depthful at all or are overwhelming and make the player focus on menus and reading rather than playing the game. mgs3's under the surface gameplay doesn't force the player to do anything they don't want to do and still makes the game completable with no knowledge of everything in the game but rewards player that think out of the box (I would like to elaborate however I believe it should be experienced blindly) 3. The strongest aspect of mgs3 is its narrative, because I do not wish to spoil the game all I can say is that the story is not just amazing but unlike games like uncharted where the gameplay is at odds with the story, the gameplay perfectly complements it.
    The negatives
    1. The story can get monotonous near the end. 2, This is actually more of a problem of most mgs games and that is the controls. it is genuinely disappointing that such a great game gets heavily weighed down but such a simple aspect, the controls are horrible and you have to expect that with mgs games from this era, yes you do get use to the controls the more you play. however it is still such a barrier entry to the series I would know because it was the thing I had to over come to enjoy this game. you feel less like you're playing a special forces operative and more like a string puppet that is covered in butter.
    But this goes back into what I would describe mgs3 in a couple of works, Flawed Masterpiece. I very much encourage anyone that is a thinking about playing mgs or wanting a story heavy game to play mgs3 and push past the controls because it is very much worth it.    … Expand

    The best game I've ever played!! Yes, I spoke confidently, but this work that hideo kojima released in 2004 is an unforgettable memory for me. The story, the atmosphere, the extraordinary mechanics for its period, the characters and many more wonderful things that I can't count.

    Let me explain. We have three important components of vidya by definition: gameplay,story and graphics . Games with nice gameplay, but poor plot and narration have flooded the industry. Games with good storytelling, but blank mechanics and interactive content are less common but still in demand. And games with both components well made are extremely infrequent. Metal Gear Solid 3 is a perfect example of latter. Everything, from the plot to animations performed in impeccable quality. This game is an example of project where every aspect is strong.

    Plot is less confusing than in previous parts. It tells a simple story (in comparison with MGS2) about government betrayal, patriotism, real human being and a real hero. But with emphasized interpersonal relationships and drama. Boss is a magnificent antagonist exactly because she is not a villain, she is only a victim of circumstances. But you realize this only in the ending cut-scene after defeating her. This was the moment when i first time found myself crying because of videogame.

    Gameplay is pure fun. Stealth sandbox with enormous amount of details and funny features — a perfect combination for me. All levels are memorable and every boss fight is challenging ( on harder difficulties especially ).I'll never forget that hike along a river with The Sorrow.

    Holy cr*p why is no one making games like this now ?

    There are new mechanics to add depth, like the camo system, or medic system, or food system for stamina but frankly it makes the game tedious. Changing you outfit was the best of these ideas, but needing to change every five feet was tedious and dull. The field medic system needed more tweak and it would've worked better. Maybe something more automatic. The food system was fairly solid and well implemented of the new mechanics

    As for stealth the camera angle mixed with no longer having radar makes that kind of impossible. You're bound to be spotted unless you've already played the game and know where the enemy is. its a catch 22 I guess.

    Cutscenes are a bit too long, but at least interesting.

    New characters like The Boss, are one dimensional and uncharismatic. Eva was a great new character but they went a bit too far with sex appeal in obvious ways.

The story is great, the soundtrack is cool, the graphics are impressive and so on. Where the game really shines is in its replay value. The game is so filled with hidden functions and techniques that it would take many playthroughs to see it all. And everytime you find aTruly a masterpiece. If you know what you’re doing the game is VERY SATISFYING to play and that’s why everyone should play it through atleast twice to see atleast a little bit of the game’s FULL potential.

    MGS 3 Snake Eater is an absolute masterpiece, and is easily my favorite game in the series. Epic bosses, a great and emotional story, and a third person prospective truly make this a must own. Whether it's on the PS2 or the HD collection.

The controls are improved while still feeling like the controls we've gotten used to during the previous entries.     So awesome! I love the emphasis on survival that puts shows like survivor to shame, especially on the harder difficulties. I honestly thought it was better looking the it’s successor, guns of the Patriots. I even love how the soliton radar is gone. It feels more realistic this way. Subsistence is this games best version. Snake eater turned me off so much with its top down camera in the soviet jungle. After subsistence fixed it with a free moving camera, it was honestly a night and day difference. All the characters in this game are honestly interesting and most are lovable. The villains like Volgin are easy to hate as they should be. The radio support team is honestly very entertaining and easy to fall in love with. All in all, this is one of the best games ever made that has great replay value as you can find a number of different ways to get through the game. Subsistence also offers further value by offering updated versions mg and mg 2. The ps2 version also offered now missing additions like mesal gear solid and my favorite the secret theater. The post ps2 ports dropped many of the ps2s extra features but it still doesn’t detract from what a masterpiece this game is.… Expand

    My OG favorite game of all time. Got me into stealth games and I never looked back. This was super ahead of it’s time in graphics, attention to detail, and gameplay. Still the best MGS after all these years. Perfect balance between gameplay and story

    Simply one of the best games in my all time Top 5 list. One of the best story a game may ever have, amazing soundtrack, unforgettable characters and much more... I remember the moment when I finished the game for the first time. I was staring at the screen in different emotions until credits end while Starsailor's Way to Fall was playing in the background.

    SFX: Almost everything sounds the way you would expect it to and anything that doesn't sounds so satisfying that you would rather it not sound more realistic. (looking at you CQC sfx)

    Possibly the best game from the Metal Gear series, and maybe the best game on Playstation 2. In 2020, the controls feel a little dated, but much more manageable than most games from the same period. Cheesy but fun story, especially for fans of the earlier and later MGS games.

    This is game is pretty much a James Bond movie where you take control of a covert operative. The characters are over the top and the narrative is compelling. The relationship between Snake and Boss is one of the best in gaming. It also doesn't shy away from making a broader point about the geopolitical reality we live in.

    Having never played Metal Gear Solid properly(only tried MGS1 as a kid), I wanted to see what all the fuss is about. And since 3 is chronologically the 1st game in the story, I started with that.

    Sadly, too much focus on stealth, it seems. Not sure if I can knock the game for that, since it's supposed to be a stealth game? You start the game with only a knife and tranquilizer gun for attacking, and have to spend a pretty a long time like that, it seems. Having so much health, even on HARD difficulty, is also pretty weird. I think you have to repeatedly get hit for well over a minute to die. If this is HARD, I wonder what the lower difficulties are like...

    There isn't really much more than needs be said other than that.
    If you like James Bond style political thrillers, there isn't a better game that captures that essence than MGS3.

    Just finished this masterpiece, everything in this game is great. There are only 2 problems: you can't pause the game during cutscene and story sometimes too complicated, but who cares? it's entertaining and interesting to follow so maybe that's not that big problem to worry about.

    Kodjima is indeed a "genius", this game is still big even for 2020.
