While the action levels are exciting, things like the stealth levels, a bad draw-in distance, and ill-placed music detract from the experience.
-
The overall gameplay in Fire Blade is most likely the games highest point, as it has a lot of depth and takes some time to fully master.
-
Its not the deepest game youll find, but its oddly satisfying.
-
I enjoyed the control, graphics and missions designs but ultimately felt the game grew a bit repetitive.
-
Play MagazineDelivers with easy to grasp flight controls, compelling mission ops, and most importantly, the proper balance between available weapons and tactics for the not so friendly skies and road ahead. [Aug 2002, p.70]
-
Unfortunately FireBlade's visuals are a notch below most offerings for 2002, but the control is what ultimately keeps this title grounded.
-
It's a shame that FireBlade is burdened by such stringent objectives when it could have been so much more entertaining. It's recommended for helicopter sim fans only.
-
Official U.S. Playstation MagazineIf I could've set things up more like the controls in "Quake" or "Half Life," I think I would've enjoyed it more. [August 2002, p.108]
-
On the right track...but in the end just comes up short...Fireblade misses the mark when it comes to graphics with dull textures, dull colors, and dull environments.
-
The game's use of first-person shooting sequences and other unusual gameplay elements, such as the helicopter's cloaking device, makes Fire Blade an interesting and involving game to play.
-
The kind of combat title gamers will find hard to put down and, while it suffers from a number of imperfections, the missions are far too engaging to care about the little things.
-
Electronic Gaming MonthlyThe clunky control doesn't help; I never got the hang of aiming my rockets, no matter how much I practiced on the herds of sheep. [August 2002, p.124]
-
Fireblade has some nice ideas, none of which are carried out with proficiency.
-
It's like every other mission-based helicopter shooter, except that it lacks a personality. Fireblade? Firebland.
-
I still find Fireblade to be oddly mixed in delivery, throwing some slickly designed, easy to navigate menus at you, then spitting out redundant mission briefings before and during the levels.
-
Game InformerHere's a classic case of a good game with a bad control scheme. [July 2002, p.83]
-
The controls are tight, but very involved, and the mission design doesn't do a good job of easing you into the myriad gameplay features.
-
PSM MagazineDespite these quibbles, we can't seem to stop playing FireBlade - check it out. [August 2002, p.22]
-
A little too short for wartime veterans, and possibly too complicated for Joe Average.
-
Its got some decent control (albeit with a few quirky cameras), and a whole lot of potential, but I saw none of the flash that it shouldve had.
