I do not know how to explain this game. I can tell the developers were trying to make a really good game. Its weird (in a good way), and its very nice to look at. I cant say its a good game. Its very hard to figure out what to do. However this is something that I think everyone should play at least once. Just grab a walk through, and enjoy.

An interesting puzzle game with a ton of personality. Basically it's about the literal girl from your dreams rejecting you, you then go on a quest of insanity by kissing EVERYONE in order to improve your reputation to win a quiz game and seal the deal with dream chick. One charming thing about the plot is how down to earth it is compared to the sheer mind **** of things happening around you. A young man aiming to win the affections of a prophetic dream girl is something many can relate to, as well as improving your reputation to impress a woman you plan to kiss. You could say this a puzzle rpg of sorts, where the puzzle is often creating a condition where the "target" can be in the right mindset to kiss you. Every character you can kiss has a specific routine they go through on a day to day basis, kinda like majoras mask. Sometimes this involves carefully moving to sneak up on someone to plant that kiss, other times it involves signaling a flying saucer with light flowers so you can kiss a space chimp(that actually happens). The game walks a razor's edge between social commentary and **** insane nonsense, there's a doctor that has sleeping issues during the day but in the hours of the night morphs into a giant syringe wielding psychopath. One part involves becoming the manager of a corporation of bland looking drones which grabs you with its dreary interpretation of being a salary man and then you get in the train that is controlled by gigantic number dial. This game is bonkers but also very charming with how it presents its world and inhabitants. But it is incredibly punishing, which could be a statement on love itself. Try it you will be entertained. Love this game. It is very charming and surprisingly fun. While I admit that it can be very hard to figure things out without a guide, I still love it and it is one of my favorite games.

One of the best games I've ever played. The story and characters are very unique, the puzzles are super fun though sometimes unfair, the soundtrack is a great listen and the setting is very cool to look at

Fun, weird and over the top with much attention to detail for ps2 times. I have always loved the creative fun humor in this game and wished there were more games like this to exists today.

  1. Besides these few little "WTF" gems of humor, Chulip as a whole is tedious and frustrating. You might enjoy a brief rush of adrenaline when you finally kiss someone, but it's only because getting there was so painful.

Gameplay nags aside, we do want to make it clear that Chulip is certainly worth a look for purveyors of all things Japanese and indie. We can bandy about synonyms for "charming" and "stylish" all damn day, but the game makes an effort to resist labels, really becoming something in and of itself.
  3. Fans of slow and quirky, non-violent storytelling may be intrigued. But this is as required as acquired tastes get. Proceed with caution.
