A game for those who appreciate good plot, classic approach to storytelling as well as history and mythology. In some ways, the game resembles Jade Empire, but in the West such high-quality story-driven RPGs have not been made for a long time. So those with nostalgia for the classic RPG from Bioware in their prime, but with modern graphics, will love the Xian Yuan Sword. Expand

The animations however are pretty stiff when it comes to talking. The level design are very rich with vegetation and small details. And there is a bit of exploration, but this is not an open world RPG. It's a linear story. I like the mythology of it. The music is fantastic with good sounds effects. I give it 78%. The game won't amaze you but it's a fun RPG that has some feelings in it. The game last 15 hours, not a very long RPG. Expand

I can't believe this game released in 2020. If you consider all aspects of the game it could be released in 2010 not now.
Level design. Tunnel after tunnel. Locations are just lines without any open space. If I've found every "secret" chest in the game, I won't be surprised.
Graphics. Well, let's see what was released in 2010. Red Dead Redemption, God of War 3, Heavy Rain, AC:

Graphics. Well, let's see what was released in 2010. Red Dead Redemption, God of War 3, Heavy Rain, AC: Brotherhood, Mass Effect 2. You get the point. Right now we can enjoy RDR2, new GoW, Death Stranding, Witcher 3. This piece of laggy textures can't even compare.
Gameplay. Mashing buttons. Half of the game I just right-clicked. First time I ever use dodge (not to run faster throw locations) is with 2 mech-doggies. After that I dodged only on bosses. But i don't time or something. If I see they are going to use some spell, I start to mash Shift key. And I'm not talking about QTEs. They are random and give you so much time. It's laughable.
Bugs. Oh, yeah. First half of the game I didn't use "Imprison". Because it didn't work. Little that I know, you need to change your language (Alt-Shift) to English. Can you imagine? When I discovered this I could not believe it. Well, next time I launch the game it stops work entirely. Bounds of objects are flickering in the cut scenes. And they flicker odd, I've never seen something like this. It's like some little devils with square mouths trying to eat textures.
Plot. I've read many manhua and it's one of the most cliché story. There is nothing to say. Very boring. Mech-parrot is the only thing that keeps me sane during this boring ass cutscenes. And actor who voice him is the only actor in the entire game who sounds interesting.
I regret every hour I spend on the game. I mourn every brain cell that died while I was desperately trying to find something worthwhile in this Chinese abomination. And this is 7th part. It's at least 7th game, It's not like some enthusiasts trying to make a game of cheep Chinese novel. A lot of people worked on this game. It's bad in every possible way. Don't play it. Save your soul. If you bought it, return it. If you consider buying it, burn your money and film it. Then repeat it for 20 hours. It will be much more interesting. I hope I save even one man, because I'm beyond salvation.

The game is boring as hell. Even worse than an MMORPG from Korean Game Conpanies.

    - Poor graphics and doesn't optimize for PC. The game has nothing call RayTracing but the Intro Logo show us the RTX series from NVIDIA. - The main character only use regular attack from the begining to the middle of the game. Too boring! +> This is not an open world game. It even has nothing to compare

Xuan-Yuan Sword VII can really only be described as an insider tip. Well suited for fans of Action RPGs who also have an affinity for extended stories.

Story: Well the plot is not very imaginative (sister dies, we try to "revive" her). However, the story is told very nicely, especially with dialogues that have the charm of Asian films. Very entertaining.

Graphics: Beautiful, landscapes are almost like postcards. If the card can do this, owners of Nvidia cards even have ray tracing. Nothing to complain about here.

Sound: The soundtrack can confidently be described as an absolute upper class, the voice output is limited to Chinese. For me, this adds a lot to the atmosphere. Nothing to complain about here either.

Technology: Not Everything is gold here. Almost typical for Unreal Engine, there are annoying reloading stutters. In many dialog sequences the animations seem like from "early 2000", sometimes the AI stops the opponent if you attack from behind, but otherwise you don't have any serious bugs or the like. Another big plus, German screen texts and subtitles.

Gameplay: Good, very action-packed, "normal" opponents look more like fodder at normal difficulty, bosses almost soul-like. Those familiar with the genre should start right away on a high level of difficulty.
Because the game is very story-heavy, the start is quite tough. Anyone who does all the cutscenes can only enjoy real play after about an hour. Anyone who skips all cut scenes after 5 to 10 minutes. However, a piece of the story is missing, but you can read it.
The leveling up does not work in the classic way according to points in strength, endurance etc., but you upgrade (soul) medallions, as well as your sword etc. Disadvantage here, fans of fancy armor have nothing here, all characters always look the same, regardless what to wear to them.
The mill mini-game (referred to here as a kind of chess) is the last quark.
Also to complain about: 20 hours of playtime are not very long.

Conclusion: Really recommendable game, if you can overlook some flaws. I loved it almost from start to finish. Entry and epilogue are tough and slightly annoying. It is also far too short. Everything in between turned out very well.

    My rating: 7/10
Recommended "I'll hit you in the stomach" title!

The best comparison would be the early Witcher games. I fell in love with the characters and story and enjoyed every second of the gameplay and exploration. Xuan – Yuan 7 is an 8 and a half hour long action adventure game. I know you see the number 7 and start freaking out, do I need to play the others first, and the answer is no. Like a final fantsy game this is a self contained story, you can start here with 7. Though after playing I do want to go back and play the others, its that good. Here you play

Like a final fantsy game this is a self contained story, you can start here with 7. Though after playing I do want to go back and play the others, its that good.
Here you play as Xu (shu), your family is murdered right infront of you as a little boy, leading you to care for your little sister, shes been sick since a baby and you set off on a journey together to help her, this is a story of brotherly love and its beautiful, youre almost guaranteed to tear up once or twice playing this game..
Xuan Yuan Sword 7 is a very linear gae, but in such a refreshing way;.. I miss when games were like this.. very similar to the likes of Kena Bridge of spirits, you do have the option to explore this semi open world, but for the most part youre following a path to progress the story.. youll be fighting enemies, climbing alls, finding secrets.. I miss when games were like this… now, this is Chinese developed ,and the story does revolve around chiense mythology so the entire game is Chinese, but there are subtitles.. thankfully theres isn’t too much reading to do.. the cutscenes are all to the point, you don’t have pages and pages of text to read.. even when charcters speak as you walk, its in short sentences and you don’t feel youre missing out on whats going on around you as they set to build these charcters and their relationships.. which bring me to the world, xuan yan feels lived in, you feel as though youre in this village being overtaken by these monsters that are in your way of helping your little sister, thankfully you both have these powers to help aid you in battle, and as you progress youll learn new fighting stances to handle enemy groups differently, youll learn stances that are best ofr stunning or best for crowd control.. the combat here is fun, you can do a light attack, again use your special abilities, and use a special attack from your selected fighting stance.. you can equip two at a time and switch between the two mid battle… though the combat does get less and less enjoyable as the game goes on.. I feel this is mostly because sadly when it comes to loot theres not many armours or weapon for you to find, the game just wants you upgrading what you already have.. but I never seeme to find any bronze, so I had my base weapon from start to finish. Meaning the combat felt the same from start to finish despite learning new fighting stances.. Another gripe I have with this game are its final 3 bosses.. the difficulty spike towards the end is insane with enemies that one hit kill you and take forever to defeat…
but theyre definitely worth getting past to see this story through!
View Xuan – Yuan Sword 7 as linear withcer game.
I loved my time with it, it was such a pleasant surprise, I just hope for more loot in Sword 8!
I give Xuan Yuan Sword 7
    an 8/10

Xuan-Yuan Sword VII offers a dramatic story based on Chinese mythology. Of course, the drabness of battles and long roads to some places can be tiring in the final part of the game, but in general, Xuan-Yuan Sword VII deserves an attention.

Xuan-Yuan Sword VII is an absolute gem of an action RPG. Its dedication to world-building and narrative does not go unrewarded as you find yourself entangled in the oftentimes overdramatized politically charged plot. It’s high fantasy in every sense of the world. Still, I wish something more was done to make NPCs more engaging, and the battle system could use some balancing. Regardless, it’s going to be tough for me to ignore this long-running series anymore.
