Yes, modern games are superior in quest design and dungeons, but the lack of QOL here was genuinely a positive thing imo and allowed the community aspect to be far better.

But MMOs as a whole have problems WoW never solved. They are end game heavy, so leveling becomes an empty chore devoid of community, and the MMO crowd consume content like locusts. Its very hard to enjoy yourself in such an environment. WoW classic didnt do anything to address these things, but these problems were not a big issue when you had continuous growth and when there weren't leveling bots, optimization guides, and try hard communities just looking to grind content instantly.

Ultimately WoW's success was about the time it was released just as much as it was about the gameplay and design. And that time will never come again.

I enjoyed World of Warcraft the most during The Burning Crusade through to Cataclysm but it is still a great experience but expect a learning curve if you are a new or recurring player. There is lots of content in the game from achievement items and epics but you are gonna have to buckle down and spend time and money.

I played this game in 2006-2008 because I was trying to make friends that played it. Fighting a duel with one of my friends who was like level 40 I somehow managed to beat him with a level 22 character and he never spoke with me again.

Im a huge WoW fan and this is a great expansion, not as good as Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers but overall a great experience. Would be a higher score if covenants and subclasses werent so unbalanced. Lets hope the upcoming patches will make it better.

First of all, this game still is one of the games that still is using a subscription service. 30 days of game time is around 15$, and for me, it isn’t worth it.
I refuse to treat WoW as a job or a chore, Farming the rep that takes 1-2 hours a day for 1 month or more to get to the point that you need to be at, isn’t fun. That is a chore.

It got a good story, but sadly it has been in decline and less and less engaging during the last 2 Expansions.
Heavily time-consuming, to the point that i have better enjoyment of playing another game.
Heavily grind focused, especially since Legion with the introduction with allied races and reputation required ranks.
Manufacturing professions are even worse. They are more or less pointless at this point. The only professions i have seen worth getting are Herbalist, Alchemy, Fishing, and Cooking as they give items Raiders use very often on raid nights.
Dreading to log into WoW and having to do a laundry list(chores) of stuff eventually burns anyone out.

"6/10 – Average, only held back by a few issues (or stiff competition).
Not always the best choice, but it can get the job done. There’s some good idea, but they’re buried under some bad ones and poor execution. We have major complaints, there are enough excellent qualities to cancel most of them out."

It's getting worse. Blocking is simple, but tolerance on the game's end of daily unending discussions about scat, incest, and even child abuse by some really lowbrow, nasty folk cause me to urge a very VERY strong Caveat Emptor. Blizz could fix this simply by employing random active monitors and the imposition of suitable sanctions (or something, ANYTHING, else). It's a shame, but I do not see this ever being fixed beyond "Don't like what ya see? Then block 'em." facile mentality. The guttersnipes win. Expand

The game allows for individuals who enjoy gaming to immerse themselves in an imaginary world in which they can be whatever they want in some cases as some have stated, you can become the douche bag elitist who spent more time on developing a character, this is indeed sad. We all have our faults! Can't get over the annoying ones in chat Blizzard has always allowed the option for you to /ignore or simply block channels in chat. The game allows for a lot of time yes it is addictive to some, this is good if you do not enjoy outdoor activities the SUN or simply loathe actual human interaction. It is a huge TIME SINK, you will grow out of it and wonder what the hell happened to the last X amount of years. The game has indeed been "dumbed" down. Is it for a new generation of player, or profits? who knows fact is if your shaking your head yes you have grown out of it and are probably going to work or to change the babies diaper, get over it ! The game is not for us anymore. With all of that said I made many friendships that I still have years after I quit the game, why am i reading reviews ?…Think of it as that jerk from High school you hated …probably looked them up on Facebook didn't you? The biggest con i can say about WoW is they took a lot of the human interaction out of the game…you no longer need to stand for hours in your capital city and ask for groups…you simply click a button and go along your merry way until a loud noise scares the crap out of you to tell you your group is ready and your whisped away to fight moderately annoying monsters …cause everyone is like Uber leetsauce now and like can solo hogger , the game has been around for 12 years or so. Take it with a grain of salt you can play for free up to level 20 nothing lost well you will have to install and uninstall (which takes anywhere from 8 hours to a week depending your internet speed) …once again ITS ALL ABOUT TIME how much are you willing to waste? The good news is that WoW is a good game. There was a lot to do and plenty of classes and quests to keep you busy for months on end. The bad news is that this was a very "casual" game and due to its success, it garnered in a decade of watered down games across all genres in order to capitalize on the less skilled gamers especially from the big companies. The funny part is that young gamers look at games like Demon Souls and think that they are a new concept but they are just pale shadows of great games that came before that required the use of mind and not just memorization. Back to WoW, for the most part, it did everything well but made many things easier. Combat was standard but enemies were very forgiving and exploration was trivial. Crafting was made easier. Class build variety was good allowing for various builds. Exploration was mundane but that is true for all casual style games until Guild Wars 2 added puzzles and random events which made things more tolerable. Quests were similar to other MMO's and raiding was straight forward and much easier than older MMO's. Regardless of ease however, it was still a fun game albeit not my favorite MMO of all time. That honor remains with Everquest with Guild Wars 2 playing runner up.

Look at the critics review and the only yellow review by AltGaming basically describes the game. Blizzard doesn't care about keeping the players that like to play, Blizzard likes keeping the players that like to pay. Which is why they have had 12 million players in 2010 and now have 6.8 million in 2014. But are now making 4.76 billion in 2014 opposed to the 1.1 billion in 2011.

League of Legends has way better PvP, and several MMO's have more challenging quests and PvE - and are free to play! I honestly don't know how people can pay tens of euros/dollars each month for just PvP and maybe some raids. One of the most overrated games ever, the only reason I'm giving it a 6/10 is because of the PvP, which is(was) fantastic, unfortunately besides murdering Arthas, they also murdered any fun players with rogues could have had, even on PvP servers, by making infiltration in enemy capitals useless and with 0 fun had, thanks to the whining of players and the stupidity of the developers. The game isn't flawless, nor is it technically finished - a good many quests fall into a "kill 20 of enemy X and collect 9 of item Y" pattern, a lot of promised end-game content still isn't in, and there are still bugs being squashed - but it's easily the closest MMORPGs have yet come to perfection. If this one doesn't hook you, nothing will.
