The time when World of Warcraft was THE MMO. It wasn't the down-booted bantha crap that is now. This was the time when the game made you actually think about tactics, professions and others. Getting Items was another thing. When I got my first epic item, I was incredibly happy (I still remember which item it was). In newer expansions: Completely unexperienced kids running around in Full Epic because they did a heroic with some other kid who MIGHT had some XP in the game. I even had a full-epic off set from the stupid Triumph badges that dropped from heroics. To sum up, If you feel yourself as a beginner in MMOs, you might wanna try the newer Expansions first, but when you're tired of the no-challanges, you'll defineatly wanna try one of the Vanilla Private servers. As for PvP, the game has no real PvP focus, it never has, they just offer it. Regarding the future of this game, it's already undergoing a slow painful death. I'll do a short-ish review: At start it was good, after Vanilla it started to go down. Especially after Mists of Pandaria. Blizzard has truly ran out of ideas. If it becomes F2P or they remove monthly fee, I might continue playing it. (Yes I have played it!)

First of all, this game still is one of the games that still is using a subscription service. 30 days of game time is around 15$, and for me, it isn’t worth it.
I refuse to treat WoW as a job or a chore, Farming the rep that takes 1-2 hours a day for 1 month or more to get to the point that you need to be at, isn’t fun. That is a chore.
It got a good story, but sadly it has been in

It got a good story, but sadly it has been in decline and less and less engaging during the last 2 Expansions.
Heavily time-consuming, to the point that i have better enjoyment of playing another game.
Heavily grind focused, especially since Legion with the introduction with allied races and reputation required ranks.
Manufacturing professions are even worse. They are more or less pointless at this point. The only professions i have seen worth getting are Herbalist, Alchemy, Fishing, and Cooking as they give items Raiders use very often on raid nights.
Dreading to log into WoW and having to do a laundry list(chores) of stuff eventually burns anyone out.

"6/10 – Average, only held back by a few issues (or stiff competition).
Not always the best choice, but it can get the job done. There’s some good idea, but they’re buried under some bad ones and poor execution. We have major complaints, there are enough excellent qualities to cancel most of them out."

I choose WoW over EQ2 and I've never looked back. One of the best things about WoW is the philosophy behind the design of the game. The game believes more in rewards than punishment - something 99% of MMOs haven't learned yet. When you die, you don't lose experience in WoW. When you go on quests (and there are tons for every character level), you usually get a large experience reward and something extra like special armor, rings, potions, etc. I'm much less frustrated playing this MMO than I was in SWG, EQ2, or even CoH. Because it is so rewarding, it is incredibly fun. And, it doesn't take a year to get your character to its highest level. But, don't be misled, just because it is run, has few punishments, and is easy to level doesn't mean it isn't challenging and difficult in all the right areas. Give it a try and you won't be disappointed. Expand

Though the race/class choices are somewhat more limited than many other MMOs, meaningful differences between races (including abilities that are specific to certain race/class combos) and the talent system means that you can customize and differentiate your character in interesting ways. Death is handled well, also ... instead of wiping out potentially hours worth of progress, it usually works out to be an inconvenience and minor setback. What keeps me from giving this game a higher score is the fact that, in its CURRENT state, it is a little rough around the edges. Server downtime is relatively high, lag (on their end) occasionally rears its ugly head. The in game mail system, for myself and many others, is broken in such a way that you can't write messages to other players. Overall, it seems like a great game that can be casually enjoyed, but also enjoyed in great depth by a more intense "powergamer" as well. Expand

There is no doubt. this is and will always be the best MMORPG on the market. I'm not playing the game anymore. But the game still gave me +15 years of great content. I'm 100% going back to the newest expansion "Dragonflight". But if I'm purely rating the experience I had in 2005, for Vanilla WoW. This game has been a massive part of my life and I've never really had any massive problems. The only problems would be bad balancing of classes and just making bad changes to Pvp and abilities. I've played this game ever since I was a kid really so It's always been magical seeing the story of WOW come to life. Even now I still love collecting mounts, playing dungeons and joining guilds.

I had been playing Warcraft 2 and 3 for 5-8 years and the build-up to this game was unbelievable. It fulfilled every store and hope for what we could think up and exceeded it. There were other MMO's but since then I have never played much of an MMO, because it just does not compare. The classic remakes have been ruined by Blizzard, and they keep making good improvements on retail, while also killing the game slowly. It is for sure in my top ten, maybe top five games of all time even with all the cringe. Expand

The third although originally I found less interesting as it pieced itself together I became enamored with the lore, which lead me to buy the game.
I started off tanking, which was simple in vanilla but rocked the house as it went on, after removing myself from tanking I played fury and did badass dps. In Wotlk I was listed in the top 13 of my server, where I had tons of fun and unfortunately for degrading social "economics" I have few friends left that I still talk to every day from this game, but the friends I made in this game have twice as much value as the people I have met in real life. Many people would call this a lack of life, but where they have supported me my own family has failed. Even if I have never met any of them the people I met during the Wotlk arc are some of the most valuable people I will ever meet. I am proud to have met them. Furthermore my subsequent involvements with this game and its functioning through my life are genuinely more faithful than some other people I have met in my life. Trolling aside, the connections I made and lost are invaluable, there is no other game I would rather spend playing during my time online. Especially since many are jokingly far worse, or at least until recently had a poorer social interaction. I guess that is my only complaint, the trolls took over gaming and the classic friendly player is no longer available because of being shut down and shying away from the public. Thanks for being a great game.

I have been a hard core pvper for 10 years! I play on 2 pvp servers and I've tried pvp on so many other games I can't count them all and I always come back to Warcraft. There is so much to do and so much content. If you don't like pvp that's ok, there is a decades worth of pve, over 16,000 quests, mount farming, professions, raiding, realm jumping. You can play with anyone who plays this game no matter where they are in the world or what server they are on. Even better, if you are a new player not only have all the bugs been fixed when you start playing the world is exponentially bigger than when I started. If you love story the story lines are amazing and so in depth and detailed. There are also books based on the game and discuss the story and lore. I personally have always found the expansions appealing. I know that goes against the internet trash talkers who unrealistically think that a company can please millions of people all at once. Maybe I'm just old and keep reality in perspective. I love this game and I will keep playing until I don't. Ten years and the love is still alive. I was upset when I saw that one of the most influential, most successful, longest lasting games ever made had a 93/100 score I was dumbfounded. Then I noticed Skyrim which I played has a 96 so scores are obviously out the window. World of Warcraft is easily 100/100 for me. For The Alliance!!! Expand

I enjoy this game. The leveling experience is quite fun, and is much more fun with friends. The end game is where the game essentially stops being fun, however. Once you reach max level you should just make a new character because everything after max level is boring.

The Warcraft universe spans across decades of lore building and this game is no exception to that. Any player will find themselves fully immersed into the World of Warcraft lore and the narrative you get experience first-hand as a player. It created the foundations of an exemplary MMO that set the golden standards for most other MMOs that came forward from it.

Whether you like Pets, Dungeons, Raids, PvP, Battlegrounds or more this game has pretty much every RPG aspect you would want. I removed a few points because I feel that World of Warcraft has lost its sense of identity in being a fun game to play - it often resorts to becoming a part-time job, which I feel a game should not be.

Refining the loot systems in this game would make it a 10/10 for me, Legion was utterly amazing.

The storytelling in this expansion thus far reminds me of the good story driven expansions - Wrath, MoP - and has been a genuine pleasure to experience.

But MMOs as a whole have problems WoW never solved. They are end game heavy, so leveling becomes an empty chore devoid of community, and the MMO crowd consume content like locusts. Its very hard to enjoy yourself in such an environment. WoW classic didnt do anything to address these things, but these problems were not a big issue when you had continuous growth and when there weren't leveling bots, optimization guides, and try hard communities just looking to grind content instantly.

Ultimately WoW's success was about the time it was released just as much as it was about the gameplay and design. And that time will never come again.

Lots of great class and faction fantasy. Each faction is unique, and so are the classes. Not everyone can interrupt spells, have defensive cooldowns, or can burst. There's pros and cons to each class - Class Flavour.

    The Bad:
Biggest downside is the difficulty of the raids 20 years later. The fact that the classes only really excel at one thing in PvE and PvP, is also up there on the list of potential problems. If you can heal, you're only good at healing - Only exception to this, is the Druid and Warrior, both of which can both Tank and, either DPS or Heal. All others are stuck doing just one thing: What their Tier-Sets assigns them to do. TBC fixes this, though.
Would be nice to see some love for DPS hybrids and Warlocks, or having Hunters being more viable later on, DPS-wise. Warriors could potentially also use a scaling-nerf, to their DPS, to balance this out a bit.

WoW history from day one to now reflects this, anyone who played during the early days can tell you the game was fun because it was challenging but over time became a dumbed down care bear game in order to keep your 15 USD a month flowing too it. One of the major current problems other then having a random 14 year old rage at you for now being geared right when you just want to run an instance to have fun is that playing this game feels like WORK. Yes...WORK. One example of this is you HAVE to get such and such armor sets and such and such weapons before you can advance to the next "thing" (Really do not know what else to call it.). I am going to stop here before I risk turning this into a rant and not a review.

But the bottom line is that World Of Warcraft is a dumbed down game by a developer who lost focus on doing things for the player and started doing things for the money. Blizzard Entertainment MIGHT be redeemed some when Diablo 3 comes out but as far as World of Warcarft goes your money would be better spent on one of the younger MMORPGs from a studio who cares.....about the player.

The good news is that WoW is a good game. There was a lot to do and plenty of classes and quests to keep you busy for months on end. The bad news is that this was a very "casual" game and due to its success, it garnered in a decade of watered down games across all genres in order to capitalize on the less skilled gamers especially from the big companies. The funny part is that young gamers look at games like Demon Souls and think that they are a new concept but they are just pale shadows of great games that came before that required the use of mind and not just memorization. Back to WoW, for the most part, it did everything well but made many things easier. Combat was standard but enemies were very forgiving and exploration was trivial. Crafting was made easier. Class build variety was good allowing for various builds. Exploration was mundane but that is true for all casual style games until Guild Wars 2 added puzzles and random events which made things more tolerable. Quests were similar to other MMO's and raiding was straight forward and much easier than older MMO's. Regardless of ease however, it was still a fun game albeit not my favorite MMO of all time. That honor remains with Everquest with Guild Wars 2 playing runner up.

Not bad, but not the best. This game is incredibly stale and for some reason a subscription based MMO. I understand it is difficult to keep up servers for millions of people (back in 2004) , however that does not mean the price should be the same. As hosting the game does not require extremely high end servers compared to EVE online, where every core counts.

World of Warcraft was one of the greatest games of it time, but the problem with MMORPGs is they are much like bars. You can go to a brand new bar and the opening is great, the interior is great, the music(content) is great, you can have a good time, but after some time it loses it glamor. If you don't continue to have friends go to the joint, then there is less and less reason to return.World of Warcraft was one of the greatest games of it time, but the problem with MMORPGs is they are much like bars. You can go to a brand new bar and the opening is great, the interior is great, the music(content) is great, you can have a good time, but after some time it loses it glamor. If you don't continue to have friends go to the joint, then there is less and less reason to return. New expansions are like grand re-openings drawing players back, but every time you hit that cycle where you wonder why you are playing. Then you have to start wondering what is missing and why you or your friends don't stay.

The biggest problem is repetitiveness and occurs with all games of the genre. Re-playability is reduced with theme-park style games. At some point grinding and hack-n-slash combat become boring and causes players to lose interest. Another problem is immersion. If the player doesn't begin to feel the character is important to the world and those around, the player never becomes hooked. Immersion is successful when the character makes an impact on the world and those around. As a comparison Star wars galaxies an often hot debated topic of the past had great immersion in the days of sandbox gaming where the character was yours, the land could be cultivated and thus yours, the economy was mostly player driven, and equipment constructed could be yours often having unique masterpieces. World of Warcraft misses in this and its themepark progression and cartoony characters and combat.

Finally, its about community. If the game appeals to young teens who recently just got done playing Wizard 101 or Club Penguin and have moved to something bigger, it will have a huge community. Problem is many of the teens on these games have lost all etiquette and it shows with the constant duel requests, nature of chat, and other losses of social behavior. Thus WoW is now the game for early post-pubescent children. Older adults I know that still play WoW do so out of the same action as drinking the same old beer and not moving on to fine wine or champagne.

Nearly all the original team have moved on. The team remaining is filled with mostly fans of the product that all have their own vision of what the game should be like and it shows in not only the gameplay but storyline as well. Each Expansion of the product feels like it's another revamp of the same game with each new iteration being worse than the last for the most part.

There is also the issue of the focus of the product which drives this harmful mentality of treating the game more of a job rather than a game as the product constantly comes out with "limited time" earnable items that are designed to keep users focused on certain areas of the game, like raiding for example. Meanwhile if you look at the games other systems they are either neglected or just downright unappealing when compared to other games out on the market.

This brings me to the graphics which if you only look at the latest expansion’s region will look moderately okay but that would be selective criticism of a massive game in this market. No, the reality is that the graphics in this product is all over the place for in this product you can find a wide array of graphics from something you'd see straight from the PlayStation 1 era to even the PlayStation 2 era as well and more. What would make it worse is that these regions would be side by side one another as well. Not only breaking immersion but also breaking the looks of your character as well since the same goes for the items and even mounts in the product as well.

The sound is alright though outside of some regions clearly having a lower sound quality then others, which if your leveling through the game as a fresh toon and fresh player can be quite immersion breaking as well when you do finally notice it.

The leveling experience in this product is frankly not a smooth experience. There are several issues with how the product treats leveling from scratch, but I’ll focus on the main issues to lessen time. First is how the game doesn't want you to level from scratch, instead they'll try and push you straight to the end game, so you can go and play their latest content. If someone is a new player you never want them to start in the endgame, you want them to earn their way there, so they can experience the whole product and not just a small portion of it. Second is how many quests it'll toss at you, it'll be fine if it wasn't just outright tossed in my face, but it is, quite literally Infact as there is even a quest board which you must go use to get into certain regions as a new player. Third is the narrative which is just all over the place. After leveling from scratch from level 1 to max and doing all the quests in the best order I could, I was utterly confused on where I stood in the storyline as I was literally forced to constantly jump to and from the present to the past. All regions in the game follow a pattern of having a few heavily populated areas and the rest being barren land that's never used, not even for quests and even when they are supposed to be used for a quest you can sometimes find that the thing needed there is no longer something that'll spawn or was frankly somewhere else. This leads to you mostly googling on where to go and finding user comments rather than going by what the game is telling you.

There is also the issue of the User Interface which is just straight up not good. For example the game has a feature that if you attack a mob you'll see a healthbar that would float above that mobs head and this interface is straight up not functionally plausible to use on some mobs as there either just too big to fit nicely on the screen while other times the healthbar gets overlapped with the other mobs near them causing you to see a huge vertical line of healthbars and not only that but the appeal of this floating healthbar is way too out of place with the rest of the visual designs of the UI, which all have their own set of issues which I won’t be getting into. But suffice to say, the User interface needs a complete overhaul. Many players for this product infact don't even use the default user interface which brings me to my last point, The community.

In this product the community is frankly one of the worst communities this genre has to offer. They're rarely helpful towards one another as they're mostly barking at each other throats even within their own factions and they're just downright unhelpful towards new players for the most part. There is a very small minority of players that play this product that are very helpful, but those people are few and far between. Most of your experiences in game will be littered with League of Legends level of interactions. Your honestly better off just avoiding people in this game if you favor being entertained rather the opposite.

This is my take on it and I must say I was bored every second that I played it. Your Honestly better off playin FFXIV.

I finally played this. It is somehow worse than what I expected. I know that is Blizzard's thing, take a genre and streamline it retarded and give everything humanoid Chris Metzen style steroid gorilla build and massive shoulder pads. While the ladies might as well be a different species. At the same time a straight ripoff of Warhammer.

But I figure, this game was so incredibly popular, and we might even know if it still was if Blizzard didn't hide the numbers are soon as they faltered. Hey but new friends are playing it, perhaps the game deserves the benefit of the doubt. Oh boy...

Wouldn't it just make sense that Blizzard, taking the already gameplay bankrupt, skeevy, and monotonous MMO genre, would create something so completely basic, so utterly unchallenging, bafflingly bland and boring.

I have no idea what is wrong with you people. This is becoming a theme in my life, but come on.
I won't even speak anymore on gameplay. I shouldn't have to, why the f*** would I? It is absolutely a joke and condescendingly simple. I imagine you might eventually have, wow, hoo, an actual choice with regards to gear at some point, but up until then a child could figure this game out. Progression is one hundred percent linear, designed for SPEDs. Don't argue, because you're wrong.

So then, the art design and overall graphical appearance is pretty much a blown up version of WC3's graphics. Even on the highest settings, in the year of our lord 2018, the textures are very low quality, many things are very cheaply done (flat, etc).

I have honestly actually seen WC3 maps that ARE more visually stunning just emulating the over the shoulder cam in a sixteen year old, top down RTS game. And again, by the way, nothing unique. Wholesale robbed from Games Workshop. This is written history, Warcraft was going to be a Warhammer game, but the deal fell through. So they went ahead with just apparently changing the names, because you can't copyright goofy character design.

This is baffling to me. All I can figure is that this is popular because of the accessibility of the gameplay, art and story. You don't have to try anywhere. And too, that somebody they knew was playing it. So a popularity contest for dumbells.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. This was not a new experience for 2004. In the late 90s to early 00's I played MUCH, MUCH more engaging MUDs. I can't even begin to describe the main three here without going on a massive tangent. Rest assured the text based games were a hundred percent more open, customizable and interesting than WoW. Why is this relevant? Because there's a direct lineage, in fact they are essentially the same, just lacking graphics and usually UI. Strip that away, WoW, EQ, any early MMO is just the generic MUD gameplay that any good game in that genre strived to get away from. Only you don't have to type your special attacks.

In 2002 NWN was released and the persistent worlds there offered a much better "MMO" experience for free, ranging from an intimate 8 to 10 players, to fifty constantly and as many vying to join, and all of them ready to interact with you, people still play on these (god help them).

Anyway, the most popular and influential MMO is a giant pile of ****.

Good - A huge and often vibrant and diverse world with lots of different options. Leveling can be quite fun for a while.

Bad - Pretty much every server is filled with the type of douche bags I described above. An example; somebody in the general chat is looking for a player to join a party, but then specifies exactly what stats they must have and that they must have great gear. No seriously, this actually happens, there are actually people as sad as this. Its like, where the hell is the fun in that?

The graphics are far too cartoony, most armor looks crap as you will most likely be wearing pieces from different sets which seldom look good together. The gameplay is now terribly dated and boring.

Verdict - WoW IS NOT and never has been a great game. If you can deal with or ignore most of the other players it is just ok, average at best but not really worth the cash. Also got to laugh at the review that stated 'by far one of the best PC games of all time' lol, I assume the person was joking, or smoking crack at the time. Not only is not even in the top 100 best pc games of all time, its not even the best MMO.

World of Warcraft may have been the glamorous mansion of MMOs, but is now becoming abandoned as new, more inventive ones are being released. It has become apparent that Blizzard are attempting to grab as much money as they can before the doors close for good.

Well I really don't know why this game is getting so much fame. 1. Totally bad quest log. In a game which is one of the biggest MMOS with such a bad quest log is rlly something not what I was enjoying. There is no Lvl information of every quest. As a player who loves to do all quests, is this missing information a pain in the .... also not even 1 mod is working to fix this issue. 2. I mean many years you will paying thousands of $ just for 1 game only which also does have microtransactions? I rlly never will understand gamer who love to do such a thing Expand

Blizzard is not a company you should support. If you know everything goi g on that they do and still willingly support them, you should re evaluate yourself

i would love to play but their are so many games like it that are free. It is pointless to play when it has 100s of copies free to play. waisting 15 dollars a month i am suprised it has such a large community. this game is Great fun gameplay but that much for this just go play somethign else like Forsaken world rappelz and many more F2p mmorpgs:(

I have played every MMO out there.I'm a beta tester for a lot about to come out.So I know a good mmo when I play it.WoW is not a a good mmo.It has no difficulty at all.a boring poorly written story.Boring combat, and just all around a boring game. The only reason this game took off as it did is because at the time of release there wasn't much competition. If it was released today it would be a flop.

I came back after not playing for a while. Worked my ass off not understanding the Flying achievement system. Thought I had unlocked it to find more reputation grind needed. I saved the world... again and again, yet I can't get flight status? Screw you Blizzard. Won't be paying into it anymore and nor will my friends.

World of Warcraft, including the most recent Shadowlands expansion, is a 2004 game that is today's biggest example of an outdated game that is not underdeveloped for the amount of financial income gained by Activision Blizzard from it.

Shadowlands does not do help much, as it is a similar experience to Legion - and while the score would have not been lower than 5/10 - the 0/10 comes for

Shadowlands does not do help much, as it is a similar experience to Legion - and while the score would have not been lower than 5/10 - the 0/10 comes for the price that comes with this game.

74,99€ for the "Epic" version, which includes every digital extra & 30 days of game time; and 54,99€ for most of the diigtal extras alone & 39,99€ for the base game.

I won't even start by saying that the middle & base editions don't have the 30 days of game time. I will rather conclude, that this game does not deserve to run a buy-to-play (single-time, bigger price) combined with a pay-to-play (monthly, subscription-based payments) model.
No game deserves that. You either run B2P or P2P. (eg. RuneScape, Guild Wars 2, The Elder Scrolls Online, etc.).

Verdict? Average game with over the top price tag for the quality provided and amount of content that does not feel repetitive (because killing 30 NPCs over and over, or doing a mediocre instance (dungeon or raid) over and over for items to be able to farm for more items is in my opinion not enjoyable to a sane, working person).

If you're a new player considering this game, do yourself a favour and pick another title that's not a combined B2P+P2P hoax.
Your invested time into this game will eventually end up made irrelevant as level cap is always raised +10 (or +5) & previous items are made obsolete, no matter how hard you've "farmed" for them. Endless grind for items with the pretty excuse of "achievement obtaining" for a continuous price out of proportions that mentally 'forces' you to play to justify the value of the purchase.

Best Game ever, the game seriously never ends, there is also something new to do, and there is always something you missed.

I honestly find WoW boring. I mean it's fun for a bit, but I think it really fails as a game. It can be fun, and I'm sure it was back a few years. WoW just isn't good anymore, and can't compare to MMORPGS such as the indie Pokemon MMO, or DCUO.

World of Warcraft is only game in world that I would pay for every month. Very big open area and lot of things to do and see. They should make some improvements on raids because only the greatest and nerdiest get there and other got kicked.

  1. Combines not only technical prowess and fine-tuned gameplay, but pleasure as well, making this the new standard for the competition. Word to the other companies: this is the reason your registered users are dwindling.

The game isn't flawless, nor is it technically finished - a good many quests fall into a "kill 20 of enemy X and collect 9 of item Y" pattern, a lot of promised end-game content still isn't in, and there are still bugs being squashed - but it's easily the closest MMORPGs have yet come to perfection. If this one doesn't hook you, nothing will.

Although it's not as technologically proficient as "EverQuest II," World of Warcraft has a more pronounced sense of style...If you're looking for a new MMORPG, then the World of Warcraft is the very first place you should visit.
