Alot of content and depth for a free to play, however it's bias is an incredibly long play through to get what you want unless you pay, having said that, clan wars and public matches a like provoke fun gameplay that keeps me coming back for more.

It's a fun game, but the fact that people can shoot "gold bullets" pretty much completely unbalances the game. The few maps available becomes extremely repetitive after a few games.

I think they're being unfair to say the least as one aspect of the game they don't like doesn't make it a bad game! However, first thing's first. World of Tanks is a free-to-play Arena MMO with optional micro transactions. The game-play revolves around choosing a tank from one of the six nations and fighting on an arena/map with and against a number of other players. The standard random battle has 15 vs 15 tanks.
The tanks are one of the five types: heavy, medium, light, tank destroyer and self propelled guns. Each one of them plays differently and each nation has certain subtle differences which makes the game-play varied. It's necessary to learn the strengths and weaknesses of your tank, and adapt to battlefield conditions to succeed or at least to do well in. That said, the game is updated every two months, usually with a few tanks and a couple of maps added.
Those are the basics. Now for why the game is so heavily criticized matchmaking and the free-to-play model. The matchmaking can indeed be an issue in this game, there are 10 tiers of tanks and the game puts no more than 3 adjacent tiers in any single battle (ignoring the self-propelled guns and light tanks, those work differently). So, for example, tiers 6,7 and 8. It is impossible for any tank in this game to destroy a tank two tiers above it without using teamwork or just thinking. It's absolutely necessary to think on your feet, which, of course, is impossible for legions of players attracted by the "free-to-play" pay model. If you look at the gameplay of more experienced players, they always find themselves a way to support the "superior" tanks in battle. Just as you get placed in matches with two tiers above, you also will be placed in matches with tanks two tiers below. You will be placed with and against players of all skill ranges. I think the tier spread could be lowered further but it is not a game-breaking issue!
The other heavily criticized feature is the micro transaction model. Yes, there are things you can pay in this game a premium account (a period of time when you receive 1.5 of experience and credits for each battle), premium ammunition (a slightly superior ammunition is available for every tank) as well as certain tank upgrades (3 are available at most at any one time), consumables an increase in the number of tanks available at any one time, barracks for the crew and premium tanks. That said, players can purchase premium ammunition, consumables and tank upgrades for credits. The options also available for gold are expensive but freely available to everyone. Purchasing them for in game cash (credits not "gold" which is the currency bought for real money) doesn't cost days of your time. Wargaming (developers) have recently stated they want to limit the advantage of paying players right now paying only saves time.
This game is, overall, very well thought out, well balanced and frequently updated. The different tank types support a wide range of tactics so even if you can't damage other tanks you can gain the most credits and experience from a battle.

I played this game a lot, got many top tier tanks, and low. Yeah, i did spend some money on this game for gold, to buy premium.. Was very fun game at start. I played this game until now, 30.06.2013 but im getting tiered of getting no money, not premium anymore, and its been a while since i had. The good things about this game is: teamplay, lots of variasjons, you got arty, light, medium, heavy and tank destroyers. Every tank has a role to play. The bad things about this game is: campers that can ruin the whole match for a team. High tier tanks meets low tier tanks.

There are a lot that i have not comment, that is good and bad, but the worst thing that I dont like, is that when someone type something, you cant see what they typed after its gone. They should have something that would allowed us to see what has been written. I emailed them about it to, but they didnt care i think.

So the best thing about this game: You have a TANK, that is awesome
The worst: Getting money, if u dont win, and tank is destroyed, at higher tier battles, you get a great loss in money. Top tier tanks cost around 1.1k for every round you shoot. So if u lose a battle and tank is destroyed, you need to win around 3 battles with almost no damage on you, only to get your money back

I started playing World of Tanks soon after it came out. At that time it truly was Pay 2 Win and the grinding was much worse than it is today. Because of the long grinds I stopped playing it for more than a year. Fortunately I wanted some tank action after that long pause and installed the game again.

The first thing I recognized is how different the game is now. They have made the grinds much faster, removed the Pay 2 Win aspect as you can buy premium ammo with regular credits (not real money), you can participate in mission for gold (premium cash) or additional tanks, tank slot, free equipment etc. They have improved the graphics, added the physics and more importantly, they are constantly adding new stuff to the game. New tanks, new modes, new maps... they are not taking a break, but constantly improving the game. It's a true F2P game that is constantly being improved.

This game is really fun if you play it alone, but it's even more fun if you play it in a team. Get into a clan and do battles for gold on the global map. This is why I am playing the game right now and intend to do so. I haven't bought 1 day of premium, yet have top tier tanks, use premium rounds and have plenty of money just from free playing. In fact, I made my first purchase with real money because of the changes they made in the game, that don't require constant money spending. I mostly bought new tanks slots.

Being in a clan, fighting clan wars, having a strategy, winning and losing and being a part of the action is great fun especially after a hard day of work.

Sure, driving history's most renowned tanks around and blowing things up is fun. The shooting system of the game is incredibly well done with believable gun dispersion and inclusion of details like the fact that armor effectiveness increases with angle. This allows for fun little tricks like angling the hull of your vehicle to turn ordinarily tough armor to invincible. Shot leading also factors in on moving targets and you had better stop or at least slow down to take a shot because there isn't any run and gun in this game. The tank armor models are also well-refined allowing for the little guy to pin the bullies up if he knows what he is doing.

But that aside, the variation of the game is incredibly limited with its few game types and virtual lack of meta games. This isn't even mentioning the time requirement for each game which often is often lengthy with its hurry up and wait style of gameplay. This can be attributed to many factors but most of all (and sadly) the game's core mechanics like the ultra-long range mega-damage artillery, chance-based spotting rather than continual sight of targets, and camouflage system, all of which strongly encourage camping. That all i can actually stomach.

What I principally took issue with was how World of Tanks seems to think its players want to spend literally months getting those big bully tanks. The level of grinding is game isn't even rivaled by World of Warcraft if that is believable. Managing your bankroll is also a huge chore which forces you to play tanks you would rather not just because they make money. Tanks also start in virtually unplayable configurations that leave you out the money for at least the first 50 or so games in it until you can upgrade them. Anything past the mid-level tanks will always leave you out the money which significantly saps the fun out of playing them. And good luck ever getting a max level tank. You'll be spending $50 minimum on the premium tanks to keep your expenses in the black and you'll have to drop out of school and/or quit work if you want to get one in under 6 months.

Of course if you like that kind of slow progression and those extended management exercises, World of Tanks has plenty of that. What ultimately ferreted my resignation from its servers was the bugs, the glitches, and the downright unpolished, unfinished hackwork that was the game's patching system. Tanks get added on a such a regular basis its dizzying. You lose track of which one is which. Meanwhile, the matchmaker still makes no record of player ability resulting in many landslide games; one side of a map is heavily favored resulting in more forgone conclusions; and preexisting tanks fall into disuse because they are inappropriately tiered or because the new ones do everything better anyways.

Furthermore I've had shots literally pass through tanks without incident; I've been hurled out of the map; I've had client crashes that cost me the game; and these all occurred with a frequency that makes counting inane. The most grievous of all the sins of this game though - the patcher didn't even work. Every time I downloaded a patch, it would corrupt my install and force me to redownload the entire 10 gb game - NOT OKAY!

But, I have had the game for months now with only getting premium from the invite code I used and during special events. It is very survivable without it, it is just more of a challenge. It really just contains basic MMO elements used in the wrong way, and is being bashed upon for it. It is very fun, and includes historically accurate tanks, with some being prototypes or blueprints come to the digital game. Don't avoid this game, try it out if you are interested, and see how it is. Sure, you get the "WOW, Matchmaking!" battles sometimes, but those should be looked over at how fun really is. Expand

It is a beta product a so called "free to play" that becomes shorty the most expensive game you ever bought. I waited and waited ...but to no avail. This game is taking the wrong path. The Soviet Union is having the most number of OP tanks followed by the US and at a great distance by other countries. (as of patch 8.8). The dev team primary priority is adding new tanks instead of balancing the ones present. Most people are only playing OP tanks like Matilda, KV1-S KV1 T29(american) T34(american) and selling the ones that are weak etc. In this game it doesn't matter how good you are as you are mostly inserted in retard teams just to satisfy Wargaming's MM algorithm and keep your WR down. But not only tanks...MM are a terrible show of Minsk's incapability for a FAIR game. Take a Panzer III and go against a Matilda. You will have no chance. They should balance TANKS not TEAMS! Everyone should have a fair 1 vs 1 not team vs team. The game forums are full of retards and trolls that defend their "fun" tanks (a.k.a OP-ness Lower tier are full of retards and higher tiers like 8,9 and 10 are full of wallet warriors with gold ammo that will make your angling and armor tactics irrelevant. Almost every tier 1,2,3 is full of noobs witth OP T18's that one shot everything. The biggest issue at the moment to me is the balance in the game with the match making and it can be unfair its hit and miss sometimes. The other main gear grinding issue is the Devs over power Russian tanks and under power non-russian.

From 10 battles you are fighting aproximately 6-7 battles with tanks, where you have no chance (example B1 tank against KV-1S, Churchill), because your tank has gun which don't scratch enemy tank and you need gold ammo or you have to find target good for you. But also after that you need to shoot 4 10 times to destroy enemy and he shoot only once (KV-1S) and you are out. This result in situation, where you have no fun in 6-7 games and you are trying to hide your tank and trying to shoot from cover on destroyable target Here is nice to see, creators are trying to get money from you to solve frustrations (gold ammo quick research).
Another bad point is hitting system. For example, I was hit in front right track(small peace visible behind house) and my engine blow up I used this bug against many other opponents and it works. Few hits in track and tank was destroyed. Also I hit enemy turret ring few times, but no damage. Many times I hit enemy, but shell just went through tank and explode behind tank. And there are many other situations, when you are looking like bacteria in pharmacy.
But yes in those game, where you are fighting against tanks within same Tier (+-1 one above/lower it's really nice game for relax and fun (is needed close one eye, when you see hitting model).
Game is not consuming so much time, if you can control yourself.

At first it looks like an amazing game, it looks very fun and dynamic, after a while you get to mid tier tanks, still fun enough but you start noticing some discrepancies and tank balance problems.
With time, frustration starts to build up, some poor map design, huge unbalance, pay to win tanks, and so on, but, it's still a nice game to keep playing.
When you get to higher tier tanks, the game suddenly becomes slow and boring and the randomness of the game starts to weight a lot. By the time I reached the top tier tanks I just couldn't play this game anymore.

Something that really annoys me is that when you buy a new tank, the stock gear is really really bad, you can barely do anything, even against same tier tanks, it becomes a boring grinding until after many games where you have almost no influence, you get the points to get the best gear.

The spotting mechanics are very odd, this game doesn't work by line of sight, instead the tank and crew "skills" define if you see or not targets, and, while this looks nice in paper, its really not in practice. Also, after you get spotted, even if you hide, the enemy can see where you are for a few seconds, this might sound like its not a big deal, but it is, if you play the game you will understand.

Another very odd thing is artillery. Artillery is like the sniper role, but the difference is, it fires a very powerful round that can reach most of the map, it causes massive damage even if doesn't hit, it can kill with one hit if it hits, and this unit is safe behind enemy "lines" hidden away from danger, which is in my opinion the very definition of game unbalance, which is enhanced by the bad spotting mechanics.

Considering that this is a free game, I recommend trying it out, if it wasn't free I would give it a much lower score.

If you can have fun tolerating this game without spending any money, go for it. Most people aren't that patient or forgiving and would be best served to just skip this money grab.

The game involves many skills: having reflexes like in any other popular FPS game, but it also involves a lot more tactic and planning. I think of it as a combination of chess and a shooting game would be the best way to describe it. The game offers tanks from many nations ranging from the 1930s to about the 1960s, with some model of tanks being totally speculative. The nations you can play, so far, are Germany, the Soviet Union, China, Great Britain, Japan, the United States of America and France, with more to be added in the following updates (and I'll note a part that I dislike: Nazi Germany, which of course doesn't get the historical flag, even got a ban on wartime German heroes, unlike the Soviet Union with Joseph Stalin and communist symbols). You start the game with tier 1 tanks, and progressively move up the technology tree(s) until you get to tier 10, and despite the name, there aren't only tanks(which can be light, medium or heavy), but also Tank Destroyers and (mobile) Artillery, each with a different role and purpose. The gameplay can differ dramatically from nation to nation, sometimes from tier to tier. It's not a newbie friendly game as it usually takes thousand of battles to form your battle "instincts", as I stated earlier, it's equally important to know how and when to shoot as it is to know where and how to go, positioning in this game can be the most important thing, depending on the role of your tank and the positions of your allies and enemies. The standard battles are 15 vs. 15(the game allows you to platoon with up to two friends if you so wish), with no nation versus nation, the match making only taking account of the battle tier of your specific tank(supposedly), this can lead up to teams being made up of vary bad players vs. teams with very good players, which is frustrating for most people(from personal experience the match making will also have "periods" of giving the player only bad teams, and it also "punishes" players that play a lot by giving them bad teams at one point, with the reason of not letting them "farm" win percentages(which doesn't make any sense to me as it punishes people that play their game). There are also many other single modes, and team modes(company battles, similar to random battles in size, but with handpicked teams; team battles, 7 vs. 7(where you can win as much credits as having a tier 8 premium tank, if you win of course, it's also the battle mode which is used in professional tournaments), and for people that want to belong in clans there are Clan Wars, also similar to team battles, but with tier 10(unless you want to give your team a disadvantage), and with a world map in which you can conquer provinces for gold and possibly other benefits. One should keep in mind that this is a game, and it's made to be balanced, tanks won't die from one hit, they have hit points, and lots of other factors to advantage people that use their brain for tactics and strategy. Overall this game is just "decent", neither bad or very good, so I can't give it more than 7 because the balance of the tanks isn't perfect(there always are some beasts that dominate the battlefield or 1 vs.1 encounters, such as the T18 for tier 2, KV-1S and Hellcat for tier 6, IS-3 and AMX 50 100 for tier 8, E-75 and ST-I for tier 9, WT auf E-100 for tier 10 etc.), the graphics aren't remarkable, the game doesn't support multicore computers(it just runs with a single core), the game modes aren't that enticing, except for team battles(which has a limitation to tier 8 max., no tanks above are seen unless it's a rare bug/exploit), the fact that it's not based on skill leads to the "balancing" of the tanks be set upon the mediocre/awful play of most players, which also leads to the teams being always more or less imbalanced, and the more imbalanced, the more frustration it generates to most of the players, it does however offer an interesting gameplay, the opportunity to use the brain on more than just reflex-type reactions and allows players to drive iconic tanks such as the Panzer IV, M4 Sherman, Tiger 1, T-34, IS etc. and for professional players it does end up giving them nice earnings, yet the developers still need to find a way to make said tournaments be attractive for larger audiences to watch AND understand what goes on the field of battle. WOT is in a permanent process of buffing and nerfing so things that are to good get worse and things to bad get better. the onlya thing avaivable for real currency only is a premium account that just givey you some extra XP and money, as well as some tanks. those tanks though arent better than others. they are usually a lot worse. they are only good for making money because they make a lot more of that. of course some premium tanks are good, but then again so are the other tanks of their level. for those who want historical accuracy there is actually a mode called "historical battles". there the germans are actually really a lot stronger than the other tanks, but they have less players in their team. so its like 9 americans against 4 strong germans. now what are the downsides? first of all the players. it is annoying as hell to read the chat if you actually do that because of spamming, cursing and noob here and noob there. also: this game is no-respawn. this means, that if your team has no idea what it does and just goes to die you are screwed. the second point is the matchmaking system. there are 10 tiers in the game with 10 being the highest with the huge tanks. most tanks from tier 3 on can have to battle tanks tier 5 though if they are unlucky. this has made absolutely no sense to me even after all the hours I played this. these tanks often dont have a chance in that situation. the final con is, that grinds can be very very long to get to the next tank. and from tier 8 on you start losing money due to repair and ammo cost rather then gaining any. all in all I can only say: only look at reviews seriously that arent older than half a month because this game changes quickly. to me its been a hell lotta fun for hundreds of hours. Thats the end of the pros anyway some of the cons include nut are not limited to
VERY VERY hard learning curve---most tanks have a unique playstyle and usually wont perform well outside said style unless piloted by a skilled player.
No respawn----with limited tanks on field any mistake is quite costly and other player will insult you for your mistakes.
Community----some players are just tools, either your not as 'perfect' as them (while they die in the first minute its all your fault still)or make a mistake they do feel at home degrading other players.
Battle tiers----great idea and they have really worked on this one too, soo currently they are slightly unfair but not terrible like some of the mainline FPS your tank is no longer pitted against impossible foes but ones you need to think about before engaging.

Overall this is a fantastic game that gets a bad rap sometimes because of poor player capability or general understanding of the game.
After my 11k battles and the collective 800k battles of my peers(who asked me to review) this game CAN be tedious but it can also be awesome fun too

Another thing to be aware of is the steep learning curve for some players as the game punishes you for taking a lone wolf approach, tackling an enemy head on without cover and missing shots. (This game HEAVILY EMPHASIZES ACCURACY.) In addition it is free to play so it won't hurt to try out the game.

Graphics:Graphics are actually better then I expected, while its not crisis 3 or something with cry engine it definitely looks presentable.

    Gameplay:Gameplay runs into three categories,Random Battles,Clan Wars,and Training Rooms
Random battles are essentially you get matched up with 29 other random people and play in 15v15 gamemodes, simple yet allows for a lot of strategy,if there was teamwork.
Clan wars are your end game content once you have multiple top tanks, you team up with a clan and play other clans across a total war style world map for the gold currency, simple enough.
Training Rooms are essentially custom games where everything from a life simulator to a humans vs zombies games, fun and creative but you can't advance your tanks in this,so its really just for when you're bored.

Entertainment:As previously mentioned, this isn't a game you play for weeks on end,its better to play maybe a few times a week,as otherwise you'll get mad at the game and do bad, then get even more mad at the game.It being plagued with random number generators.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this title and i'm interested for what wargaming brings next.

    2) Modding is mandatory, not an option. Download aslains stuff. Basic features are missing in the barebone game.
    3) Tiers. Not only 1 to 4 are fun to play. As long as you are not matched against Tier 10 guys, will be fun. So... is useless going beyond Tier 7 stuff. The T10 guys are golden ammo, golden tank, golden cheat.
    4) NEVER give even 1 dollar, Euro to these guys. The way to play FUN is to play FREE. This game is the worst pay2win engine i ever met. It is said that they make 1.5 millon Euro .... a day!! Dont care of the golden ammo, you can kill those guys anyway.
    5) Type of tank: i prefer Arty, because i can hit even the biggest guys even if they have some cheats (sorry "paid things") activated. But antitank sniping is OK and also some heavies or Mid (mid are very difficult to play well). I am in the yankee branch: T29, T20, T67, M44 (22 sec recharge :P). Arty only care about recharge time, other things doesnt care in the "Arcade". Light tanks not for me. Scouting is not fun.
    6) Short tactics: Heavies go ahead and shot everything you see, only cover against Arty. Mids run fast , flank and shoot...and die. Antitank hide, snipe, hide again, snipe, they spot you , you die. Arty go "the place" to shoot. Get the biggest guys first, they are easier, they will hate you... is very fun to doom a golden boy!!!
    7) Community. Never care about login there, there are a loy of guys very angry because they pay real money and they get almost nothing. They will not help you, they cannot.

In short: if you play like me is a nice 9. If you do not play Arcade like, is very frustrating, its a 1. Average: 5

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I read the most comments who hype this game so hard I could puke. (sorry my language)
The game by itself is awesome. I like it really much and still playing it over years. But the developers ans some ideas and things how they manage it is horrible. A game should make 90% Fun and 10% no Fun. The 10% no Fun is the part when someone is better than you or some of your teammates are trolling or something. But World of Tanks makes 90% no Fun and 10% Fun. (don't matter what others say)
For an example: You play with a Level 5 Tank (ingame called Tier 5 Tank) the game put's you in a match with Tier 5, Tier 6 and Tier 7 tanks. On Tier 7 (in this case) you have almost no chance to win in a 1 on 1 fight with a tank as a Tier 5. Mostly heared argument is "play as a team.", "circle it and attack from the side or behind". The chance to do this how and when you think is really rare. On this point the other tanks come into play. The enemy has teammates too and they don't come alone in the most cases. You get a shot by an artillery, or a one-shot by a camping heavy tank in the base (his job is to help at the front line). But let me end it here. I have about 4000 characters left, but anyhow there's too much to say. I rate the game as pretty good but when I had a score meter for the developers I would give 2/10.

That allows you to progress faster through the various tanks, even though it is stil very much possible to do so without ever spending a dime on gold.

There are still some issues in the game, which the developers are working on, even if their patches isn't issued as frequently as in other games I've played. Now that the game has gone live, they will have to live up to their promises in the upcoming 0.6.4.0 patch, which should fix a whole slew of issues reported in the beta. I don't doubt they will be able to do this, since they seem very dedicated to their game. I've even met and played against some of them, and been able to beat them in a regular competion called Killed The Mods.. Got in game gold for my victory as well.

Довольно хорошая игра, как не как её обновляют почти 12 лет. Добовляют новые танки и всякие фан ивенты, и.т.д. + как не как это аркада.
Конечно есть и минусы, но все же не понимаю почему её хейтят.

That is, of course, if you don't pay for premium.

What really ruined it for me though were Wargaming's policies towards players. If you play on the EU servers, you're getting a much worse shake of things than the NA servers. I'm not sure about the Asian or RU servers. Also, the customer service is dreadful. If you need to contact them for anything to do with your account, prepare to be disappointed.

Do yourself a favour, find another game to sink your time into.

The support system is awfull and ban easily for nothing. If you get banned you can not post on their forums forever and you should not login if you want to actually read them.
Also you can not read and write to support (eve to argue why you were banned) if you were banned.

I was playing War Thunder before WoT, and I wanted to see how it fared against it. It's a lot more arcadey, but that doesn't mean the game is not fun. It's a lot of fun until I realized how quickly the grind got out of hand. Even with premium, I was stuck in progress because, in this game, ammo costs you in-game money and if you don't perform well enough you will gain very little if not lose money match to match.

There is fog of war in this game, it looks like it doesn't but it does. And your crew level determines how accurate your shots will be, and how far your tank can see. With just grinding, topping off the whole crew takes a lot of grind. But you have the option to just pay real money to outright buy fully experienced crew members which will give you superior accuracy, fire rate, FoV, and even perks like "Sixth Sense" where if you're seen by an enemy an alert warns you and you can avoid certain death.

Ammo seems like it's not premium but the strongest AP rounds are so much more expensive then regular ammo (10 times) if you buy them but die without getting lots of kills, you will lose tons of in-game money. But you can always buy premium to gain more exp and in-game money, or you can just convert your premium currency to in-game currency.

I've learned these all the hard way, I didn't know any of this when I first started playing WoT. I've got my *** handed to me by "sixth sense, eagle-eyed superhuman crewed tanks" so many times, I thought the game was glitching or I was playing against cheaters.

Stay away from this mess if you want to stay sane.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review will be based on tips on how to enjoy this game (from beginners to advanced players..you will learn about the game and how to play it):

    - spend 3 USD, no more, just to buy enough gold to be able to demount equipment when moving it from tank to tank. This will save your 100's of thousands of silver. Those 3 USD will last you years, if you dont spend the gold on other things. (10 gold for demounting a piece of equipment)

    - Grind Russian Heavy line for most forgiving tanks and most fun (people will tell you that Russ mediums are the best, but those are designed to take your money indirectly through high repair and ammo costs until you get so frustrated that you start to spend real money on premium accounts)

    - Play only tier 5 and 6 tanks because those are the most fun and DO NOT cost credits to play. Tier 7 and 8 are horribly imbalanced, and tier 9 and 10 while very fun, will cost you money in the end. Tier 1-4 are crap-shoot and tend to feature over powered premiums, where skilled players "seal-clubbing" the new players. Just rush through T1-4 as fast as you can.

    - Dont pay for premium tanks...you can get those for free by doing missions each month. You can play those when you have free premium account to make a lot of credits.

    - Do not under any circumstances consider that this is realistic sim. For example, German epic WW2 tanks which dominated WW2 battlefields, are in this game often combating against tanks which are introduced years after WW2 and are far more superior in armor and guns.

    - Never buy Premium account. WOT will from time to time give you free premium access for few days. Use those days to grind tier 5 tanks, combined with personal multipliers (you get those for free when playing or during xmas season)

    - always play with experience multiplier enabled, even if you play only for half hr. Those will increase your exp points earned up to 100% significantly reducing your time to open the next piece of equipment or the next tier tank (again, you get those for free by simply playing)

    - And last the most important point: DO NOT give into "Win rate" nonsense. WOT benefits highly of trolls who somehow see themselves as special for having above avg win rate. This in turns makes people to think that they have to pay2win. In reality this is the most ridicules means to measure ones skill in the game, and it is completely meaningless, compared to K/D ratio or total damage, which is far more reflecting personal skill and what the other games use.

Otherwise, tanks are really nicely modeled with lots of HD features. Maps will also get a face lift with HD features in the near future.

I started out with this game in 2012 and have played it on and off ever since. The basic premise of the game is very good, an arcade team based MMO with tanks. Back in 2012-15 it was a very fun and engaging game. Since 2015/16 though it's been on a continual downward slide. Some of the really standout issues are:

    - Whilst technically it is "free to play", unless you pay, your experience is going to be very frustrating as the grinds to unlock tanks, improve your crew skills and buy new equipment are very long. Don't expect to play high tiers without a premium account or at least one or two high tier premium tanks for grinding credits.

    - Low tier game play is a total **** show with seal clubbers driving OP or poorly balanced low tier tanks with premium consumables, equipment and high skill crews which are totally beyond the reach of new low tier players.

    - The game has a very mature player base now and the developers only seem interested in serving up new content and improvements for these long term, high tier players. This exacerbates the low tier **** fest problem.

    - Matchmaking is horrible. The vast majority of your matches you will be facing off against higher tier tanks, which thanks to the power creep you will very often be almost powerless to fight.

    - The game mechanics are very heavily RNG based. The accuracy of your shot, armour penetration, damage done by shots.... all are very heavily influenced by RNG.

    - Map design isn't great with many maps very unfavourable to long range sniper type tanks, light tanks or casemate tank destroyers, whilst favouring the brawler type tanks (i.e. Russian tanks).

    - Power creep in this game is a huge problem. In order to keep the long term high tier players engaged they keep serving up new tanks which are better, and better, and better. This power creep effects not only the regular tech tree tanks but also the cash purchased premium tanks too.

    - Russian bias. Russian (ok, Belorussian) developers. The Russian/Soviet tanks are the best in the game. Many of the maps are designed to favour the characteristics of Russian tanks. There's a steady stream of new high tier Russian uber tanks. Anyone who doesn't see this bias is a moron. Really the game should be called World of Russian Tanks.

    - The biggest servers in terms of population are the Russian ones. The developers only seem to be concerned with keeping the Russian players happy and show little regard for players on the other servers like Europe and North America.

    - Premium ammunition is one of the most cynical things I have ever seen in video gaming. Yes, this publisher actually *sold* you special ammunition for your tank which would penetrate more armour and do more damage. They later made it worse by making this ammunition available for very large amounts of the regular in-game currency. The net result is every match players are slinging lots and lots of premium ammunition around and this makes slow, heavily armoured tanks almost worthless. This premium ammunition has been at the root of so many of the game's balancing issues for years now and the developers are being painfully slow at addressing it.

    - The game peaked in terms of player numbers during Christmas 2016. Since then they've been declining. Not catastrophically, there are still plenty of people playing, but the writing is on the wall. The game is in decline now and it looks an awful lot like the publisher is now just milking the existing player base for money, specifically those who are heavily invested in the game.

    - The latest tech tree to be added to the game is the Polish one. It's full of very uncompetitive tanks all the way up until tier 8. The entire line has been designed to be bad until the high tiers... in order to encourage players to use "free XP" (which you need to pay to unlock) to skip over the junk tanks and get to the good ones. Very, very cynical. In fact there are several examples in the other tech trees where a very good or desirable high tier tank is locked behind a very bad one. The intention being to encourage the use of free XP.

TLDR: Right now in 2019 this game is only fun if you are a dedicated player who has been playing the game for years, have multiple high skill crews and have the latest and greatest high tier premium tanks. Anyone else... don't bother. The game isn't fun and is just an exercise in frustration, poor game design and very cynical monetisation. Go and watch the Youtube videos by Claus Kellerman, far and away the most accurate representation of this game in recent years.

First of all, I will admit that the game is fun for the first 3 tiers, maybe. After the first 3 tiers, the game turns into a complete mess. Turns out, people who play free suffer a exp and credit penalty. Forcing you to pay real money to be able to utilize the full benefits, (I will explain what this entails later on).

Possibly the worst part of this game is the sloppy matchmaking
First of all, I will admit that the game is fun for the first 3 tiers, maybe. After the first 3 tiers, the game turns into a complete mess. Turns out, people who play free suffer a exp and credit penalty. Forcing you to pay real money to be able to utilize the full benefits, (I will explain what this entails later on).

Possibly the worst part of this game is the sloppy matchmaking system that sets you up against tanks at a maximum 3 tiers above you. If you don't know what that means, there are 10 tiers in the game, higher tier tanks have better guns and armor. So when you are paired against tanks who are higher tier, you essentially become worthless. There are roles, like light tanks who have to scout. They are not meant for damage and that's because your gun cant damage anything. Then your contribution as a light tank depends on your team. If your team is bad then your scouting means nothing which makes you worthless. Heavy and medium tanks are the guys who rush forward to deal damage. Paired against higher tanks makes you worthless, since armor no longer means anything against higher tier and your guns cant damage anything. There are other class of tanks, but it means nothing for the reasons stated above. Unless you pay real money for "premium" ammunition, which is the games way of saying "pay real money to do damage". Although they did change that in later patches by allowing you the option to buy premium ammo with in-game credits. But the prices are raised around 10-20x the price of regular ammo. In other words, its praying that you get competent teammates who just happen to be in the higher tier tanks.

But lets get on to the higher tier tanks, shall we? To get to the higher tier tanks, you have to wade through the garbage that is the lower tier tanks. Which becomes a problem especially if you take into consideration the reasons I listed above. Now, progression would be a good thing, if it wasn't such a hassle in this game. I don't want to spend two months grinding 200xp per game because the matchmaker put me in a match where I literally can't contribute, for a tank that requires 40,000+ experience. Then the crew, you hire crew for when you purchase tanks, you have the option of paying real money to put them at 100%, which allows you to train skills that offer bonuses in battle. You would need around 200-400 games to get it to 100% without paying real money, but that's if you are lucky and placed in a match where you can contribute instead of being a target/distraction/fodder. This also applies to experience for tanks as well, pretty much forcing players to pay real money to get the boost so that they don't have to grind months for one tank. Now, I know what you are thinking: "What? Are you poor? Can't spare some money on a game?" If I wanted to spend money on a game, I'd rather spend it one that is actually well designed.

Then there is the community, good lord the community is so toxic. I asked one question about an event, and the entire chat exploded with people throwing out obscenities and telling you to kill yourself. What makes this even "funnier" is that there are moderators who actually monitor the chats, but they don't discipline the people who are genuinely rude and out of nowhere to harass, no. They instead ban you when you point out the obvious flaws in the game. I admit, I rage at times, especially when the game deals me an unfair hand, (thank you matchmaking), and I then present my concerns. First, its people flocking to the "defense" of the game, when I quote "defense" I mean what they do is tell you to leave since they would rather not defend their broken game. Especially since most of these people have gotten past the ridiculous grind and no longer have a reason to complain. Then what do the moderators do? They ban you for criticizing the game, there was at least two times where I lost chat privileges because I "dared" to criticize such an "amazing" game.

Then I see the reviews from these so called "game critics". Giving this game a total of 8/10 on this website and it makes you wonder if they even played the game past tier three. If they even played the game enough to notice these glaring problems. Or maybe they were payed to give a good review, especially since I doubt that a game could go on for this long without at least one bad review. Especially from those who have actually played the game. Id rather listen to the users, the gamers than these "critics". The user reviews come from the people who have actually played, and when you look at the difference between the game critic reviews and user reviews, you see how vastly different it is. How in the user reviews, the amount of negative reviews vastly outnumber both the good and mixed reviews, combined!

I give this game a "1", mostly because the only redeeming thing about this is the beginning. Showing what the game could have been, but the developers care more about money than polishing their broken game.

The game is utterly **** Half of the games you play your team does not work with you and you are powerless to affect how the game is going. The other half of the games you play are games where you are matched up against higher tier enemies and you still cannot do anything. A multiplayer game on which nobody plays for team and you cannot affect the game on any level. Horrible game design.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Could be fun. At fact its pure p2w. Shoptanks are about 100% to 500% stronger, you have to shoot premium ammo which cost about 20000% of credits. Then you have to buy credits in shop. Win win for WG. Matchmaker is the worst pile of **** i ever seen. I play this games now since 2012, with long pauses, and the MM is even worse. Most time you fight against 3 guys in Tanks 2 Tiers above you, mostly Shop Tanks, which one or twoshot you in drive by, while you bounce 20 shots. If you hit. Because everythin is rolled out by dices called rng. Bad players have maximum bot protection where you wont hit 90% of your perfect aimed shots, or you bounce the shot magically, while they drive by you with 50% crew easily in your 400mm Turret. The Tanks are extremely imbalanced, Balancing takes YEARS to react. Wheeltanks are now in game for 3 or 4 years, never nerfed. They dominate the whole meta, useless to play other tanks. And the mm build teams where one side has 4 wheeltanks, and you have none. And then the Problem with the SPG. They dont play the same game. They can shoot you from everywhere, while they stay safe. You get most time 30-50% of your hp soaked, even when they miss you for 100m. And they stun you for 20 to 30 Sec also. Most matches there are 3 Spgs and 3-5 Wheeltanks on each side. Useless to play other tanks. You cant do anythin because if you move, or gets spotted, you gain 3 shots for 300-900 DMG from SPG and the wheeltanks come with 100 mph, and finish you. Only SPG nerf since 2012 was, that they dont oneshot you everytime. Instead they have a splashradius like a nuclear warhead, reload faster and have better aim...and 30 second stun. Did i mention they destroy with each shot 3-5 modules and kill 2 crewmembers? Yeah there are premium health packages and repair kid, credit card or paypal?

Rest is p2w. You have unaffordable consumables which makes your tank 10% stronger, which cost to much if you dont buy credits in shop.

And then there is "The Grind". Each tanks starts with ****ty gun, engine and so on. You have to grind for days, against full equipped tanks or shoptanks (which dont have to grind)....or you invest money and skip this. Crew also. Crew with 4 Perks make your tank 300% stronger, but you have to grind....or invest much money.

And the devs, which are russian dont care much about NA or EU server. The only ones they hear to are russians. So russian tanks are always stronger and never get nerfed. If a german tank is not extremely ****ty, it will get nerfed very fast. Like Maus or Leopard. If american tank is good, it gets easy to hit weakspots or blows up every second shot, or the gun is **** There are also hidden stats. WG means russians are blind and have shotgun like guns, but at the end they hit like lazers, while you Leopard, with the best gun in game, statwise, misses 50% of his shots.

    Fun game. Dont install.

-Pay to win, you can buy tanks with REAL-LIFE money that are better than the ones you can unlock by playing the game
-Several gameplay mechanics that make the actual gameplay frustrating (artillery class, that can kill you with one shot and you never know where the shot even came. Same old maps over and over and they heavily favor certain kinds of vehicles. Premium ammunition that makes you simply a better player. You can buy it with in-game currency you earn by playing the game, but in the end it will be so bad for your game-.economy that you'd have to either fund it with REAL-LIFE money or stop using premium ammunition and give other players the edge.) Just to mention few..

I created my 1st account about 9 days ago. On first playing I made many mistakes, of those was hit my allies by accident. upon which my New account was immediately banned. I found this Unbelievable to say the least. I tried their ticket system to complain, and their response was basically , we are not going to change our decision, point blank. Then today Tuesday January 1, 2018 @ 2:30 AM EST I began another match and another player rammed me then killed me outright. (A rule violation that got me banned instantly) Not only did he not get banned but his name did not turn blue ( in game when a player shoots another player , now, their name turns blue to indicate they are in violation of game rules) In the ticket area in wargaming.net they conveniently state in ticket body quote * " Teamkilling/Friendly Fire is handled in game in real-time through the automated Team Damage system" In other words wargaming will not do anything about it and most importantly if this so called system did not punish player that means they are being allowed to break the rules arbitrarily. this also means that wargaming.net prohibits players from reporting other players for killing them in match, that gaming system will not punish (blatant arbitrary punishment system) they are very selective as to whom they will apply their rules to. From my experience in game i have been in many matches with employees, Big cash$ real money spenders and friends of theirs. I have seen that these individuals never are subject to the game rules. Its a wonder they are allowed to run this shady business in USA, this is highly suspect behavior. Expand

I would seriously give this game like an 8 or 9 if the developer (Wargaming) wasn't completely and absolutely rubbish. Otherwise, I love this game so much.

Just got banned for playing artillery and having 2 players ram into what I was firing at from the other side of the map. Since we can no longer damage team players by shooting them, why is this rule still here? Seems wrong to punish players for other players actions.

this review wont be about the game, it will be about the things that i hate about it.

i want to say that the matchmaking is extremely bad. you play against other tanks that are far stronger than you sometimes, and you might think that skill will let you win, but the stronger tanks have obviously more experience than you., so you are meeting stronger and more skilled players that you can rarely beat in this game. but i have came around this bad feature by relying on my equally strong teammates to take out the strong enemies, but the game would be much more fun and less unfair if we where matched with the same tier. i know the problem is tweaked to be less annoying but its still here and its effect still annoys me.
also the game is self aware that this is a bad thing and they of course solve it by money, there is something called "premium matchmaking" which only takes effect on premium tanks which are only bought by real money,
what it does is it only matches your premium tank with others that are not 2 tiers above yours.
and you might think that for example if you get a tier 5 m4 sherman, then you wouldnt have to worry about the tier 6 tanks anymore which where annoying when you only had tier 4 tanks to fight them with, but now you will meet tier 7 tanks which are also annoying. and when you get a tier 6 you will meet tier 8, this 2 tier above matchmaking will keep on going until you reach tier 9 and 10. (which are extremly hard to get because the progression is so slow even after tier 5.)

i still enjoy playing this game and i hope they would listen, and fix this issue.

Whilst I wouldn't describe this as the worst game ever, the developers do seem to be trying to win that award with a series of recent updates (and planned ones) that have badly harmed relations with their community.

A new matchmaking system has been implemented that heavily favours top tier tanks - i.e. tier 10 and tier 9 - that basically means that if you are playing tier 8 in particular you will always be at a disadvantage (and you'll be xp pinatas for the higher tier tanks). Talking of tier 8, WOT released a whole series of premium tanks that are hugely op, thus making the game even more pay to win and also means there is little benefit in progressing past tier 5/6.

Maps are hugely uninspiring with very limited choices in maps to play - the developers have removed more maps than they have added, with most maps being variations of pre existing ones (they added snow) which add little to your game experience. Cover (an important mechanic for light tanks) has also been removed, thus making most matches played a dull zerg rush with little tactical thinking.

Check the videos of klaus kellerman (coarse language warning) , the mighty jingles and aging jedi (now markgfl) for more info. regarding the declining scale in quality of WOT, and the general contempt the company has shown towards their player-base in the last 24 months.

Overall, I could not recommend spending money (and thus supporting) on this game in it's current state - I have spent in excess of 150 gbp to date over the last five years and shall not be spending anymore. What once was a tremendously enjoyable (yet flawed) game is now clearly a tool for wargaming to fleece their player-base, whilst at the same time ignore and censor any critique (see sirfochgate). By all mean play it for free, but don't open the wallet!!

    Thanks for reading

I've sunk over 2k hours into this game - probably more like 3,5k, If you factor in all the stuff you have to do outside of the battle. And I got very good at it, to the point where I could see all of its' flaws.

The game itself is a very fun concept - arcade tank battles. Unfortunately, it got perverted by a greedy developer. Introducing a new OP (or close to it) tier X tank, just to nerf it a few months later, after a lot of people bought gold to reach it faster. Driving up the sales of premium accounts by overbuffing armor on some tanks, requiring you to spam the more expensive ammo at it. Heading towards actual P2W by making a tier VIII premium tank with 90% of the stats of a tier IX. Knowing WG, I very much doubt they've stopped doing those things (and more...) since I've quit.

There is a point in this game, when you either start improving your gameplay - reading up on the mechanics, memorizing the armour layouts, learning maps etc. - or you go on and become a noob. If you're in the first group - then you'll eventually start seeing the faults of the game itself. Things like bad MM (maybe they fixed it, doubt it though), constant stream of bugs, RNG, SPGs, bad map design, bad balance and stupid buff/nerf decisions, "russian bias", treating the EU server like a cash-cow (also, WG EU are a bunch of idiots), occasional bots and cheaters. Things that gradually take away the fun from it, until you're playing it just because you've got nothing better to do, not because you enjoy it. If you're in the second group and you don't notice all of that, then maybe you can have fun. Dunno, personally I don't take pleasure in being bad at something.

All of this combined made me quit. I would sooner, but I needed a game I could occasionally spend half an hour on, when I didn't want to play something too serious. So, thanks Warframe, for saving me...

If you want to just drive around in a tank, shooting stuff without too much commitment - this could be a fun game (just please don't support the **** devs with your money...).
But If you actually want to get good at this game, and you value your sanity - stay as far away from this as you can.

Still you cant have the best autoloaders and the matchmaking and gold ammo are kinda weird choices from Wargaming. Very fun to play with friends, had some great times while playing it. Brilliant end-game content and there is a lot of diversity to all the tanks and tank trees. You can spend your life in this game and still doesnt unlock everything. If they will fix the MM and repair gold ammunition to also have some downsides i will higher up the score for sure.

And yeah it has absolutely worst players in any game i have ever seen. But thats not the problem of the game. Its problem of the people who doesnt have more than 10- brain cells.

Also huge + is that updates actually make this game better, which is something most multiplayer games cant tell.

If Wargaming is spending so much money to advertise its game it will have to develop it on the same level. But that's not the way Wargaming has chosen. They chose "pay to play" and grind politics. As a result, game has no optimisation, weak balance, linear gameplay and bad reality.

I gave it a 2 star rating. At times I enjoyed it, but for the most part.......
Pay no attention to the Critic's Score or Google's evaluation. They are not being honest or do not understand the game play, plain and simple. The "Critics" were given the use of a Press account to play the game. Those accounts have every vehicle available in the game, includes the best vehicles. The real users actually start with 11 basic (lowest, weakest, unappealing) tanks to play..

    POSITIVES:
The game can be fun at times.
Extensive list of vehicles that can appeal to History or Military buffs.
Graphics and special effects are pretty good.
Battles are short, 3 to 15 minutes (maximum).
    Supposedly "Free to play".
    Great time waster.

    NEGATIVES:
Russian Company. The best/most extensive roster of vehicles are Russian (Russian Bias).
    Customer Service is horrible.
Many cheat MODS available and used by players - difficult to police.
Earning in game credits is based on performance and winning to advance more quickly.
The more real money you pay, the better your chances of quick advancement and success.
Only start with 11 basic tanks.
You can buy "Premium" tanks with real money as high as `$80.00 USD
Can take years to get to a tank that you desire to play (unlike the press accounts).
Steep learning curve and very little instruction material - easily found.
Game is dying in North America. Used to have as many as 50,000 people a night playing. Now, barely 5,000 at times due to the inequity and toxic atmosphere between players.
Game actually tries to determine when you win or lose (Not completely skill based).

Honest review: I liked the game. As a History buff, it appealed to me. I enjoyed the graphics of the vehicles. But there "seems" to be a Russian Bias towards Russian vehicles (better armor, more powerful guns....) The game is based on Win/Loss to distribute in-game credits, but after statistical analysis, the new player has no hope of winning very often. People who pay real money for past tanks do not get the same value as people who pay real money for the new tanks, continually forcing you to pay more money to "keep up with the jones". It can take years to get to a top tier tank (best tanks), depending on how often you play. The only way to continually play the top level tanks is to be the best of the best players or pay alot of your own money. Buying something from this company does not guarantee you anything. Your purchased vehicle can be changed (for better or worse), removed from the game, or be outclassed by a newly introduced vehicle.
Cheaters using cheat mods were rampant and the high number of toxic abusive players shows the frustration level people experience while playing this game. There's just too many negatives to justify spending any money on this game - which includes the following.. World of Warplanes, World of Warships.......... Anything from Wargaming. Move on - find another game to play. Save yourself the money and frustration.

It combines aspects of great RPG games and first person shooters, wraps them into a package that will appeal to the historian, and tosses in a dash of addiction to combine into one great final product.
