In all, Witchspire is off to a promising start in Early Access. It looks good, runs well, and has the bones of a solid cozy survival game. There is certainly room for improvement, but that’s kind of the point of dropping a game in Early Access. Even if I hope to see a few things added over time, I think that gamers who’ve been waiting on Witchspire will be happy with what they find when they jump into the game in Early Access. [Early Access Score = 70]

Witchspire has plenty of charm but not enough substance to fully capitalize on it just yet. The cozy witch fantasy and the delightful Familiars accompanying you give it a foundation that's easy to appreciate, especially when shared with friends. However, frustrating progression, poor onboarding, and a lack of meaningful guidance constantly get in the way of that enjoyment. I just know Envar Games clearly has a vision worth rooting for, but right now, Witchspire feels less like a magical adventure to me and more like an early prototype. If you're willing to embrace the rough edges and growing pains of it in Early Access, there's some fun to be found here, but anyone hoping for a polished, spellbinding experience? Yeah, you may want to wait until they add a few more ingredients to the cauldron.

If you absolutely love the genre and are looking for a new cosy entry then Witchspire will probably appeal to you. For those who need a little more from their crafting games though then this may simply be “one to watch” for now. [Early Access Review]

It won’t replace Valheim overnight, but it has all the ingredients to be a compelling alternative for someone looking for something a little cozier and a lot more magical, and if future updates add more Froblins, I will once again abandon all self-preservation instincts and immediately attempt to collect them. Witchspire has promise. Its unique setting and style add some much-needed variety to the survival-craft genre, and the game serves as a welcoming, forgiving experience that still has its fair share of challenge. Since it’s in Early Access, it still has some elements that need adjustment, bugs to fix, and features to add, but I think you’ll enjoy giving it a try even in its early state. [Early Access Review]
