    W40K: Space Marines is great fun & ork heads give a satisfying bloody "pop" after a few concentrated rounds. Being a big fan of the rts games I wasn't so sure I would really like the game past appreciating the setting & story, thankfully this was not at all the case. This game has a high level of polish rarely seen in pc releases these days & seems more a tip of the hat to long time fansW40K: Space Marines is great fun & ork heads give a satisfying bloody "pop" after a few concentrated rounds. Being a big fan of the rts games I wasn't so sure I would really like the game past appreciating the setting & story, thankfully this was not at all the case. This game has a high level of polish rarely seen in pc releases these days & seems more a tip of the hat to long time fans than a console cash-in with a bad port job. It was a blast playing down on the battlefield & personally I would have rather seen mp left out in favor of more sp content, but now too many games are a 6-7 hour sp campaign with the same damn mp games tacked on.… Expand

    Great game, awesome action and the real gritty, heavy feel a 40k game should have. Been waiting for something like this for 'many' years, cant believe it's taken so long for it to finally come!

It seems like everything was created for someone who wasn't familiar with 40k, but sometimes developers forget that the 40k audience is going to be their greatest consumer anyways! This game has great bits to it, but also suffers from mediocrity. The action in the single player was great. The only thing that spiced up combat was when you acquired a new weapon. This happened at a consistent rate throughout the campaign, but it never made up for a lot of the monotony of combat. You might have to turn on a machine here or there, but there is no combat scenario that is really interesting or challenging. There aren't many different enemies between the orkz and chaos, and there is never really any sense of desperation or urgency in combat. Fight. Kill. Rinse. Repeat. Another pacing problem seemed to be with the story, I feel as if too little happened for too long. You never traveled to other planets, you essentially had one goal in the game, you stay on the same planet doing menial tasks to accomplish a slightly more important goal which will eventually lead you to your main goal, which in the sense of the whole Warhammer 40k universe, seemed extremely unimportant. The combat style is very similar to Gears of War - the only difference however is that GOW created interesting scenarios with combat instead of throwing wave after wave of enemies at you. The executions are a nice touch to the combat system, but are certainly not enough to make up for the lulls in the combat. The multiplayer is a fresh breath of air, nothing too special here, but definitely something to keep your attention until another 40k game comes out or just any other top-tier multiplayer game like MW3 or BF3. It adds a new perspective to the 40k universe which is really nice. I think it would have been awesome to add more races to the game, at least in multiplayer. the Tau, Necrons, playable Orkz or the Eldar would've made for some very fun multiplayer possibilities. All in all - I'm not mad that I bought it, just wished it was a more in depth 40k game… Expand

    Appreciating the fact that this is an action game and not a hybrid rpg im giving it an 8 out of 10. Alot of people are asking for more depth and more complication, if i approached this title in the hopes of it being an rpg i would probably be of the same opinion. But as a fan of warhammer 40k (since collection minatures as a kid) i was able to set aside my own aspirations for the game andAppreciating the fact that this is an action game and not a hybrid rpg im giving it an 8 out of 10. Alot of people are asking for more depth and more complication, if i approached this title in the hopes of it being an rpg i would probably be of the same opinion. But as a fan of warhammer 40k (since collection minatures as a kid) i was able to set aside my own aspirations for the game and judge it for what it is, a no holds barred action spectacle, Nothing too complicated just good old gruesome fun! The graphics and sound are top notch and the game world is exactly how it should be if it was a tabletop battle you were playing. alot of 40k fans will probly rate this higher than someone who has never played a 40k themed game because the average joe will just see this title as a just another 3rd person action title and say why dont i just play darksiders or gears of war? Just imagin if space marine made a baby with fallout 3 :)… Expand

    To make things clear - Im a fanboy. Totally devoted to Warhammer 40k universum. Ive lost hours of my life on playing all games from Dawn of War series, another countless hours for w40k books. Yes, i never played the original tabletop game, but such things were never my kind of thing. It never stopped me from adoring the warhammer world and its unique feel. And what about the game?To make things clear - Im a fanboy. Totally devoted to Warhammer 40k universum. I'll make it short. If you're a wh40k fan... you'll love it. Space Marines are epic as always, fights are bloody, voice-acting is superb. Graphics are astonishing, game is also very optimised - you'll play it even on some older machines. Another thing is soundtrack - not so "heavy" as in Dawn of War, but also great. Orchestrated by Sascha Dikicyan and Cris Velasco... this first name will ring a bell - this guy is known also as Sonic Mayhem ( Quake OST, Borderlands, Mass Effect 2) ... What can i say? EPIC sounds. And gameplay? Blood and gore. All the memorable weapons are here. Bolters, chainswords, lascannons, assault jetpacks, power axes.. Against you - hordes of Orks. Legions of Chaos. Pure fun in killing all of them. Offcourse, there's not much else to do in this game - but slaying xenos and heretics is so orgasmic, you would not dare to be bored... That would be heresy;) So, generally - for fans of WH40k - it's a must-have. For everyone else? You can give it a try, maybe this will be your first step into the dark and grim world of Warhammer 40.000 ?… Expand

    I found the game dull and far behind the progressiveness of other games. Unless they make a lot of changes then Warhammer 40k was much better off as an RTS. I pre-ordered it expecting an innovative fps but all I got was repetitive linear game play of non stop shooting at things with absolutely no character progression. For example, Deus Ex: Human Revolution did quite a nice job at giving the character great skill progression, I would have preferred a biological stat increase with augment upgrades accompanying that, but overall I think the Deus Ex team did a great job. It is everything that Warhammer 40k: Space Marines lacked and games today should only continue improving charter customization and progression, this game is defiantly behind the times in this area. It's another one of those completely linear console ports with invisible walls everywhere and pre-determined outcomes for every battles. The story is repetitive, and the characters have no depth. It's mindless button pushing, without the adrenaline that's supposed to come with it.Fantastic Graphics, Nice Design, Nice Sound Effects, Nice Hud, Nice Controls. But man is this game boring!     Overall Space Marine is a very good game that any Warhammer fan will enjoy. The campaign is fantastic with brilliant voice acting and cut scenes that really bring you into the action. There's about 8 - 10 hours worth of gameplay on hard difficulty and I loved every minute of it (yes, even when I was dying!). Sadly the multiplayer isn't even in the same league as the single player, which isOverall Space Marine is a very good game that any Warhammer fan will enjoy. Sadly the multiplayer isn't even in the same league as the single player, which is why I've only given the game a 7/10 overall, with a better multiplayer it could have easily gotten an 8/10 in my book. The multiplayer uses a P2P system instead of dedicated servers which causes all the usual problems (host advantage, drop outs, massive lag, warping, migration issues etc) but that's only part of the problem, the other major issue is the lack of content, there's only 5 maps and 2 modes and it gets boring really fast, I'm currently rank 38 (41 max) and I'm already too bored to bother getting to 41, I will make it, but slowly.

    A good start from Relic, and I expect great things from Space Marine 2, but it will all depend on how well they flesh out the multiplayer and if they correct their stupid decision and use dedicated servers.

    Great effort for a first shot of portraying a space marine in a third person shooter/action game, the single player is the best part as it has a good story and the seamless change between shooting and meleeing makes for very satisfying combat against hordes of enemies.     What it lacks all ascpets of the game compare to other games like gears of war 3. Space Marine more than makes up for it by letting you BLOW **** UP!!!

    I think this game is pretty good for a first outing in the WH40K shooter realm. I enjoy the hand to hand combat a lot, and the ranged weapons are great. However the game seems to be on rails, I was hoping for a more fluid world. The level ups for rage and melee weapons are nice too, but they fall short. The team mate AI is horrible. They might as well not be there. The jump pack is cool,I think this game is pretty good for a first outing in the WH40K shooter realm.     This game is just plain fun. The up close and personal combat is done spectacularly well and the beautiful art work of the environments draw you into the scene. If you're a gamer like me who just wants to get on with the combat and gets impatient with extended dialogue, then this may be for you.

While it goes through the animation of killing, you still take damage from outside sources like shooters and melee fighters. This poor choice of health restoration destroys any replay for a hardcore mode.

    Well we can't let you. You'll be "waiting for host" instead. Want to Alt+Tab in the meantime to read your girlfriendgrannymommy absolutely-important-message on facebookskypewherever that is accessible only through your computer? We can't let you do that either.

    The network interface (synchronous, and what's worse host-migrating) doesn't even allow dedicated servers. You think it'd select the best match for you considering the 4 minutes of matchmaking, but it doesn't. It's just at random: they are probably using a hamster-powered Windows 98 to make the teams up.
    Also, the flashy skull will really grab the "focus" every time, so you'll really have to respawn and go afk. If it ever finds another host, that is: at time this doesn't happen, and you have to kill the application.
    The programmers are so at fault for this game. THQ, here's a friend's advice: fire 'em, and get a decent replacement. Especially the director, as he obviously slacked on the job.

    However, the story was decent. Not good, mind you, but decent. The art was somewhat good as well, and the possibility of customization is almost nice. Good luck I had bought the game for that single ability.

    Oh btw, you'll have to live with multiplayer 'till lv 4 to use it. Good luck, you'll need it.

What is really funny because the marines are wearing fat thick armor with large shoulder pads, yet, it doesn't protect very well at all. Lackluster story. forgetable.     Relic has done a great job bringing 40k to life once again, proving that they're the right ones for the job of developing 40k Games.
    While I'm not a huge Multiplayer fan myself, I couldn't help but enjoy Space Marine's Annihilation and Seize the Ground matches for hours already. My impatience was well justified and the game did not    Overall I am very, very pleased with Space Marine.

    A great game definitely worth the buy if your a fan of the table top game it really makes you feel like your apart of a true Warhammer 40k atmosphere and has a variety of enemies and weapons to play with at your disposal.     As far as multiplayer, that's a lost cause for three major reasons. 1) Peer to Peer, 2) shaky map design, and 3) no anti-cheat package. Peer to peer just does not work for shooters. A dedicated server package is a must if you want to provide MP in a shooter game, first or third person. And with any shooter, a solid anti-cheat package is a must. Nothing will kill a game faster than players getting stuck with cheaters and no way to remove them, and in WH40K, you can't bail out of a match until the game ends. Map design is also very problematic, with some maps having base spawns that are in direct LOS from the opposing side. This will inevitably lead to spawn camping, which ruins the fun for players.

    All in all, it's good for SP, but terrible for MP, but still a game a WH40K enthusiast will want.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has just proven to be awful, the negative aspects of this game have greatly outweighed the positive. Single Player: Not much of a challenge and very short (about 8 hours of gameplay, including finding all the collectibles). The idea of the game's single player mode is straightforward, confined fighting in places that have these annoying invisible walls. While some of the fighting may take place outdoors, you are always going down a path like a tight corridor where you can expect the enemy to appear. The plot is too predictable, Chaos influences one of the good guys to betray your team, making things worse for the world (it has all been done before, many times, in the Dawn of War series). The developers have shown themselves to lack creativity in keeping the interest of the player looking for something fresh. Not to mention, the AI of your teammates is laughable as they often don't help you at all while in battle (it's like they are saving their ammo for the battle that never comes). Multiplayer: Absolutely intolerable. There are numerous bugs that will cause your game to crash (unresolved exceptions in the game code?) Without dedicated servers, this game suffers from having to use P2P connections, resulting in poor quality interaction between users for a shooter game. For a game where the developers knew the majority of their player base was coming from the DoW series, and thus PC players, how could they not include dedicated servers? Another poorly thought idea was the layout of the Multiplayer menu, where you can not select the map you wish to play nor the game with the lowest ping to the host (even the new Exterminatus mode does not have these simple features). The lack of creativity is also apparent in the TDM and CP game modes. It allows for the combination of overpowered perks and weapons that you will often find players abusing just so they can win. Some of the perks prove to be useless in comparison to those that you will later unlock, and thus go unused as you level up. As for weapons, the Plasma Cannon and Grenades (which majority of players use because of how ridiculously powerful they are) are the most annoying and have turned the game into just a frag fest. Grenades, alone, have the ability to stun and do massive damage, so when players see an enemy, they just throw all they have (two grenades where that number can be doubled and the power strengthened by perks) and are pretty much guaranteed the kill because of the large blast radius. In fact, I would like to point this out especially because it makes me laugh everytime I see it, there is a tip during the loading screen that says to use the combat roll to try and escape explosions. But, of course, this tactic never works, as a grenade or plasma blast interrupts the combat roll and the next one finishes you off. As for melee weapons, your enemy can often step out of the way and continue shooting you if you choose to use the Hammer/Maul as it is too slow and does not have much of a forward reach like the Chainsword or Axe. It seems to me there was no game testing done at all before release, and players were actually given the Beta as a final product (something attributable to those game developers looking for some quick cash). And, as it has already been announced, they plan to release future additions/features as paid for DLC (which should be free and a part of the original release). To introduce something new so soon after release reveals the fact that the game was not polished enough and should have stayed in development, in order to include more content, resolve balancing issues, and keep players interested in the game. To put a level up cap of 41 in the game, which many players have already reached and thus working on weapon challenges is there only desire, results in a divided team where some are looking to gain the experience points by actually participating towards the goal of winning the match, while others have no interest in team work and are just looking to acquire certain kinds of kills for their weapon challenges. Overall, the game has not been able to keep my interest, nor the interest of many others, as I am already seeing the player count dwindle down as matches with a full player count have become a rarity. In doing such a bad job with the Multiplayer, I believe they have killed some of the replayability of this game and lost the respect of many players.… Expand

    Truly a great representation of Warhammer 40k. The dialog, characters and story are all portrayed as if games workshop themselves created it. Masterpiece. My only complaint is with the fact that they made it for console too so of course it massively lacks in some areas like multi-player and combat complexity.     I bought this for the multiplayer - The Multiplayer: In terms of lag, its not laggy at all. (I live in europe) I have had almost no lag exept for once. (Though I still support dedicated servers for all pc games). There are many ppl online. I dont have to wait long to enter a match. you can costumise your appearance and loadout while in lobby witch is nice.

    Game is nearly ideal! MP is a blast, as it's different than the regular FPS MP. This is definitely the sleeper hit of the year as it didn't get the exposure of some of the other games being released. Combat from melee to range is seamless and tonnes of fun hacking at Orks and then blasting them with your bolter.

    The game play itself was reasonable. I found the same shortcomings that others have mentioned. Too close of a camera... getting killed while locked into a "special move" animation. I suspect that if a casual older gamer like myself can master the controls and make his way through the game without too much effort. Then someone like my son, a maniac 18 year old console gamer. Might find the game lacking enough challenge. That said, he likes reading the Warhammer books as well. He said "This game is Sick".

    From a single player perspective this game is amazing. They have designed an experience rich with the cannon of Warhammer that drops you into the world of the Space Marines. The controls were fast and easy to tune for faster game play at maximum difficulty. Although i found two drawbacks to this game... re-playability is not a main point for me.     I've never rated any game a 10, but I have no problem doing so with this title. I guess it is an accurate rating as if I were to write this game myself I would change nothing. Well only one single thing actually, I would leave it up to the player as to whether or not my Space Marine would be wearing their helmets. The whole package is spot on from Games Workshops high standards. I am very familiar with the Space Marine Codex as well as Orks and the 40K premise and story line. To me this game NAILS it all perfectly. Bought it on sale too for $16.99, but it is well worth the full retail cost and then some. Love the visuals as well, they really bring the Warhammer 40K universe to light just the way it is on the books. I haven't even tried the multi player yet, saving that for after the campaign.… Expand

    I FEEL LIKE A SPACE MARINE WHEN I PLAY THIS GAME!
    Wading into a horde of orcs with chainsword in one hand bolter in the other, I loved the seemless switching between mele and ranged combat. Controls are amazing , the single player is a work of art, and the multi-player is a blast and the co-op is some of the best I've ever played! Only thing missing is dedicated servers. DLC has proven worth it for me too with the Dreadnaught mode in MP and the Chaos Unleashed pack was a nice change up for co-op, slaughtering thousands of guardsmen instead of orcs (in most cases both at once) playing as Chaos.
    Space Marine was just what WH40K needed in the video game department and THQ has come through again.    … Expand

    Campaign was fun but short, multiplayer is really fun and the various options and loadouts you can choose is good. Lag only a problem when the host has a bad connection.

    Overall a good experience, just wish for longer solo player campaign.

The more I played this game the more I just hated it, you don't feel like a space marine you feel weak & frail not a gene altered human that's 8 ft tall in armor & that has been trained to handle every thing. One of the major problems just comes from the play balance having 360 combat all targeting the player with shooting raining down & no way to get healed but to stay in the melee mix just fails as it drags out every combat & makes the next combat worse if you didn't get healed & remember you still have to run to the shooters to kill them or just get chipped away as you shoot back & don't get healed, the game really just felt like pulling teeth after some levels. This is the fan in me that cant let this one go the bolter is a gyrojet rifle (look it up its a real weapon) not a machingun & it just makes the space marine so much less, a bolter is for a skilled fighter one shot = one kill the machingun is for some one who cant shoot & needs 20 shots to hit. This mite be a fan based review & I mite hate it because they didn't come close on the feel of how a space marine should feel in the game, but with out the back ground story I know the game play still sucked.… Expand

    Loved the game and the story. As someone new to WH40K lore, it was a good introduction. I loved the combat especially the melee mechanics. It was well worth the price. The multiplayer is also good but can he chaotic at times. The only flaw for me was it was too short, save multiplayer it was a 8-10 hour experience.

I am especially disappointed that there are no vehicles, Even the first halo game had vehicles and more game types, and that is a 10 year old game... The campaign lasted me roughly 5 hours, which when you dislike multiplayer in shooter games, is a steep price to pay for such little content.     It very simply never measures up. It's bland, boring, and annoying. It offers absolutely nothing to the 40K fans, and plays like it's 2002. After 9 hours I was happy to uninstall and bemoan my poorly spent monies.

    @syrik It seems to me like you just go frustrated and quit with MP. You can mute people on PC in game by simply pressing the tab key and muting as you would in the lobby. Most people loved Asylum, but after a while to me it became grappling, wait, one button kill, just as this game can simply be M1 M1 M1. However, I also found when playing SP that if you really work on trying to be a combat specialist and not just a rampaging juggernaut it takes a bit more skill and control besides hitting M1 M1 M1.............................................On the multi-player side, this game reminds me of CoD 2 in that the base of the game is very, very strong. With some more iteration this game could be come the third person sci-fi shooter. But that would mean not only putting in more PC control but also adding call downs like in modern CoD titles. In this way the game really could expand, however, I'm hoping that the MMO being developed runs in this direction, especially since newer PCs can push the LARGE, and that's an understatement, scope of this game's IP. Both in terms of number of races and such but also, scope in terms of HUGE battles which has little to no dead time, you should look up and see planes flying everywhere and pods dropping in and laser fire from unseen space craft in the sky. 40k is about nothing but war and this game is a great start but its still just Deathwatch in terms of numbers when it should be the Apocalypse expansion.… Expand

Real depth and immersion never builds up, the story can be predicted and the rushing in waves of enemies get tedious. The animations don't look smooth and the small boss fights are ridiculously easy. Playing the multiplayer the weapons are so far unbalanced its a joke with people sticking to the same old gun with a couple perks which allows them to sit in a corner and one shot everyone running by or just using the plasma launcher to kill groups without even having to use any skill. Then the latency issues combined with the terrible graphics just make it pointless to play which is a shame cuz is could have been soo much better.    … Expand

At the same time if you prefer range combat you can easily work on that and for working on that specific class you gain perks to help you out. A survival coop will be released soon and I sure as hell cant wait to get my hands on it after all many games become really big because of coop game play. Another thing is if relic continues releasing maps and game modes this game will last even longer which is a plus since Relic has been known to release these kinds of things in the past. There are still a few things that could have been taken into accountability the levels feel a little linear not too much freedom unfortunately also it only held me for about a good 12-13 hours campaign wise. Which if I do say so myself is longer then most of the other games I have played but overall this game was quite successful in capturing the audience of Warhammer 40,000 fans and luring new fans into the fray. Overall it is a fun and good game I will keep playing this and so long as it has support such as future DLC's and maybe one day allow modding support I will keep playing this game.… Expand

    Multiplayer, on the other hand would be fantastic fun IF it were not for terrible matchmaking and no dedicated servers. It consistently matches you to players in another country resulting in pings upward of 500ms, on a 13 mbps connection resulting in a nearly unplayable game. There are no options to set max ping, min ping or pretty much an option to do with what match you are put in. It is for this reason that I have scored it so low. If this were to be fixed I would rate this game a 8 or 9, but as I bought it for multiplayer primarly this is unacceptable and the reason I have scored it so low.    … Expand

    I like this game, i really do. I gave it only 8, for dead multiplayer and short gameplay, campaign could be a bit longer. Combat system is brilliant, melee weapons are pure pleasure to use. Everything runs smooth, no technical issues, controls are responsive enough. Graphics is nice and music is solid. Definitely worth its price.

    Bad first: It is simple and a bit short and the multiplayer has no dedicated server service but nothing else is wrong with the game. It is a very fun SP gameplay and also MP makes ton's of fun. Just perfect for some stressless hours of splattering your enemys with a big smile on your face.

While I have never been into the board aspect(s) of the Warhammer Universe I own each of the PC titles beginning with Dawn of War, and to be honest this was a nice break from the "usual". I am hoping for future updates to squash many of the little bugs, albeit none critical on my rig, to truly make everything more seamless, and hopefully alsoI have really been enjoying playing this title. While I have never been into the board aspect(s) of the Warhammer Universe I own each of the PC titles beginning with Dawn of War, and to be honest this was a nice break from the "usual". I am hoping for future updates to squash many of the little bugs, albeit none critical on my rig, to truly make everything more seamless, and hopefully also address smoothing out and, or creating more consistent frames per second in many scenarios. Trust me my rig can handle any of the modern titles, in fact I am still waiting for a title to truly utilize all the PC powa I have waiting to ambush Dx11-plus titles with textures, and polygons running amuck.     Only recommend for fans of the 40k universe. Seems like a lazily thrown together game. Enemy's hits will register despite that on screen they miss by meters and illogical enemy design, for instance Orks who carry massive shields are most easily defeated by being rushed head-on with a melee weapon.

    The idea that you can only heal by executing enemies is cool, though it is bewildering to watch Captain Titus stand still for half a second or more after finishing an execution or melee combo just blithely allowing enemies to wail on him before the player regains control.

    The PC port was obviously not a priority, the most obvious evidence is the key bindings. To zoom with scoped weapons you press [ctrl], to change the magnification you press [z]. [ctrl] is forgiveable given melee is quite reasonably bound to [mouse2] but there is little reason why in the context of zooming the magnification cannot be re-bound to the mouse-wheel which would be much more ergonomic for a key-board and mouse.

    Now the bad. The game is short and not very replayable. The multiplayer fell way short of expectations. Peer to peer matchmaking means a load of lag. While this may be ok for THQs RTS games, it makes the action oriented Space Marine nearly unplayable in multiplayer. In order to get the most out of multiplayer (access to all modes and characters) you will need to let THQ nickle and dime you with DLC packs. So much superfluous DLC it's just nauseating. Since THQ is now defunct, multiplayer is no longer getting updates, though it still works as far as I know.

    The single player experience is worth it for both action game fans and Warhammer fans. Outside of that, there is no reason to play this game.    … Expand

I was disappointed in the reliance on executing enemies for health because you make yourself vulnerable while the animation plays, so it's very possible that you will die in an attempt to gain health. You also can't execute enemies from range, so certain enemies at the end of the game take a lot of bullets to put down since multiple headshots will stun them, rather than kill them. Lastly, the game requires that you have the pistol and bolter (assault rifle) the entire game, limiting your choices of weapons to just two - and typically you'll want one of those weapons to be the sniper rifle, meaning you really only get to choose one weapon from the variety that they give you. They also let you choose melee weapons, but never really explain how they're varied from each other (i.e. after I got the power axe, I never went back to the Chainsword because I thought the axe was more powerful, but I was still given the opportunity multiple times to switch back to the chainsword. I don't know why). Inside of the game, while the plotline is fairly mundane, the writing deserves a bit of credit because the entire human faction maintains a strong stoic, Roman-esque aura that lends credibility to the idea that the Ultramarines are basically gods among soldiers. They're treated with reverance and they speak like thespians.

    I wouldn't have paid full price for this game on release, but even at this point in time, it's worth putting some time and money into if you're curious about what this blood-soaked game contains and feel like bashing in some ork skulls.    … Expand

Along with a great story you get a combat system with a lot of action, you have a lot of weapons to choose from and every weapon has some pro's and con's so you need to choose what fits you the most. You actually also feel some progress with every new weapon and upgrade and don't feel like you get some useless junk you're never going to use. It actually gets pretty challenging when you get almost an endless horde of enemies storming at you, it's a hack and slash but you can die easily sometimes if you don't shoot some other more dangerous enemies first. You get also quiet a lot of different enemies from the very weak you can kill in one shot to the tank that smashes you to death in 3-4 attacks. I can't give any review to the multi-player because I didn't played it yet, I rather enjoy a single-player campaign with a good story than multi-player but maybe I'm gonna give it a try sometime. I give it a 8 because it's better than a lot of other hack'n'slash games out there and quiet underrated compared to others, but there's still a lot of potential that could have been done in the game, like upgradable armor and skills like in the Warhammer strategy games.… Expand

There's no inventory in this, no crafting, no skill points, no secret rooms, just go and kill. Sounds perfect if you ask me. The control wasn't 100%, there's a couple funky issues due to the fact that this is a console port, but nothing game breaking at all. Mostly the melee is a tad difficult with mouse/keyboard. The mouse aiming was solid and that's usually the biggest culprit in console ports. They do a good job of making you swap between melee/ranged as you can't reload while things are hitting you. I liked the heal mechanic quite a bit which involves executing an enemy. The first negative review you read here complains about how you keep getting hit while you're doing this execute, ya well no **** buddy. You're supposed to use it on the last guy or last 2 guys, not wade into combat trying to heal. Plus by the end of the game you can usually use your fury cooldown to heal if you're in trouble. It's not an issue at all. The ending was satisfying which is pretty important IMO. The story was nothing special with some relatively predictable twists but solid enough to carry the game onward. It took me about 12 hours to get through the campaign.… Expand

    If you get a Space Marine game, you pay to be the fury of the Emperor, incarnate. The purpose of this game is to make you feel like the Emperor's finest, and it does. It doesn't need the best graphics ever to be a GOOD game. And it is, it is a good game.

    It has good sound, good immersion, nice kills and a good overall feel to it.

    Now, it had poor controls (way too many buttons for a PC). Jump and smash-land should be same button. Double-tapping keys should have implemented dodging, instead of more buttons. Holding Melee should have been stun, and lo and behold, they fit on a mouse and directional keys instead of having 11 controls (I have an older version of the game, maybe they fixed that).

    And these things (controls, checkpoints, etc) keeps it from being a GREAT game. But it is a GOOD game, and I recommend it. I heard people say 50 dollars. I recommend you get it cheaper. Right now it's 20E and I say go get it.    … Expand

    As it stands now, Multiplayer is brutal and almost unforgiving to new comers, How ever it has its enjoyable moments, Exterminatus is enjoyable,though some recent bugs have started to annoy. Campaign is enjoyable and fun, the story is well written with some amazing art work and characters.     The problem with Space Marine is the same as many games out there in these days: its way too simple, easy and linear. They game needs a better combat system, one more challenging and intense. Those are a few of the things I missed for this game. I like the idea of including melee combat, but its way too OP, i dont remember enemies counter attacking my melee attacks. I also missed the kind of gore that make a difference in gameplay, like in Ninja Gaiden. I would like to see the game to be a bit more tactical, make a real use of your companions, like giving them orders. Also, why not a reloading/jamming system as in gear of war. It is a good game for a low price if you are into action games. I really hope Relic bring us more, Warhammer universe have a lot to offer.… Expand

    On the technical side, I found it the game to be more or less excellent. And despite the fact that the game is perhaps too short, the plot actually was pretty solid and fitting to the universe.
    If you're a fan of the WH40k franchise, you'll likely find the game good, even great. If you aren't though, be prepared for a... not bad, but not so good either show.

    One thing worth noting is that this is actually the developer's (Relic Entertainment) first non-RTS title, and for a first effort, it IS really solid. If there ever is a sequel made by the same studio, I'm expecting great things from it.    … Expand

    The multiplayer is fun with a lot of unlocks but the P2P system on the PC functions adequate at best and normally most games one or two players are lagging like crazy.

This is brought together with great sounds, making you 'feel' like an instrument of the Emperors wrath. I also really enjoy hearing the different sound for the remaining bolts in the magazine,A solid third-person-shooter mixed with hack/slash.     It does have its flaws, though. For starters, I am disappointed by the lack of graphic options. It always looks great, but I want the warm feeling of controlling the options. Also, the combat is not very deep, making the game feel repeatative at times. You could argue that it being a "hallway shooter" with limited freedom is a flaw, but it's still fairly standard practice in shooters. It does feel cramped at times, though. And limiting SPOILERS; while I felt the final battle had an anti-climatic end.....I really couldn't suggest something better without breaking lore/tabletop rules.

    Also throw in good steamworks multiplayer and horde co-op that still has a surprising amount of players for 2014.
    If you like sci-fi shooters, you can't really go wrong with this. It goes on sale occasionally on steam, so you can wait for the seasons if $30 is too much. If you are a fan of the Warhammer 40k universe you should already have this game.    … Expand

    The game is unique in its own way. Playing as a space marine in 3rd person I didn't mind, great game play experience. The things I found odd and kind of stupid in the game was the process in getting your health back. indeed sometimes its no problem. but in some situations where there is no cover and your getting blasted by guns and and hacked by axes I found it hard. also I was playing itThe game is unique in its own way.     Fantastic solo campaign, its a really great warhammer game. I would have liked a better cover system but the different events and boss battles make a big difference in breaking up the sometimes monotonous and linear level design. I cant talk about online or Co-op but hopefully soon.

    If you haven't played Warhammer games before, I highly recommend it, but I don't recommend starting with this game. You can experience Warhammer 40,000 with the Dawn of War strategy game series. If you want to experience the Age of Sigmar, ie 40,000 years ago, then the Total War: Warhammer series may be appropriate. You can play Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide and Warhammer: Vermintide 2. If you don't want to spend money, there are loads of Warhammer games on the mobile platform. You can experience them all. Here it will be quite easy to get to know the units and the world.

    Now, although you are the captain of a feared and elite unit in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, some may be more fanatical than you. For example, you're dealing with mindless Greenskins or Chaos minions pretty closely. The gameplay can be so frustrating sometimes that you wonder if I should lower the difficulty of the game. Because, even if you play the game on Normal difficulty, your enemies will challenge you. So if you are playing for the first time, don't hesitate, you can play on the Easy setting. No problem! Over time you will already get used to the action of the game and you can increase the difficulty level. You can do this the next time you play.

    The story of the game satisfied me. So, it's not easy to endear a game to a Warhammer Universe fan. However, you say that they made some pretty good plays in their time. Also, when you look at the current games, you either finish it very easily or the difficulty of the game increases due to the incredibly unnecessary mechanics and you become unable to play. There are still bad Warhammer Universe games out there, but not all of them are like that. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine shines like a pearl among these not-so-bad games. Because the story of the game makes you accept that you are really an Ultramarine captain and you act accordingly. All of a sudden, you put yourself in Titus' place and take your steps accordingly. We can see here that Ultramarines and indeed many people in outer space are disgusted with the Inquisition. The Inquisition's attitude has always been a bit of a standout, and in fact, some think they're also abusing the authority they've taken from the Emperor. That's why they don't like themselves very much. It reveals that the local troops and other units belonging to Space Marine, especially the Ultramarines, quite hate these friends. Although they are fighting against the infidelity of Chaos, it is expected that they will eliminate the infidels among themselves before they become clear.

    You have the opportunity to use many different conventional and melee weapons. Fortunately, each of the melee weapons also has a separate combo. By applying these combos, you can prevent your enemies from resisting. However, the weapons you need to use in some sections may not be effective against your enemies. So after double-checking the weapons you have, move on to the next section. For example, Meltagun or Lascannon can be quite effective against your tough enemies.

    Finally, the game offers the player very smooth gameplay. Technically, I didn't encounter any problems, but considering that the game was developed in 2011, we have to consider that it has undergone quite a few updates. The online modes of the game are appetizing and there is a process. So, whether you play on the Chaos side or the Space Marine side, your account has progressed and you can edit the weapons and equipment your character will have, even down to their armour.

    Finally, I can say that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine can be an invaluable experience for those who love the Warhammer Universe and are new to this world.    … Expand

    Killing things has never felt so good. Looks good sounds good. Story boring as all hell, but doesnt mean the game is. Every swing of a chain sword and every shot feels heavy and deadly. You see the pain it causes on your foes with blood going everywhere and you send them flying.

    I don't care for the warhammer games normally but this one took my by surprise. From start to finish i was having fun and felt like an action hero on steroids. Pick this up on steam if its less than $20 as its a little too short.

    awesome shooter game. and weapon action is good. this game is enough to buy for this point. but, after passing half progress, weapon selection is monotonous. Second Weltanschauung is awesome, but story line is too childish.

Basically it's just obvious there are bad guys related to this "Chaos Energy" in the game, and you are going after them and trying to protect the planet and innocents located on it.

    Pros:

    * Easy to pickup combat - I can't say I'm all that great at it, but that's why I usually play on Easy the first playthrough of any new game so I can learn the system a bit. You're basically engaging a large number of enemies, some in close range, some at range, using a variety of weapons with specialty moves, etc. Kind of like Doom where you can melee kill enemies at certain points and that's how you regen your health.
    * Relatively enjoyable combat and movement system - it's a 2011 game so things weren't all that smooth back then with these types of games with just a few exceptions so it may feel a little clunky if you're used to modern games, but it's still solid overall.
    * Decent graphics for the time period.
    * There are some sections of the combat where they are cinematic / QTE (Quick-Timed-Events) - I know a lot of people seems to hate QTE but I think when they're done well they are fun and can add some neat interactivity to the narrative scenes. And they are done well in this game.

    Game Length: 7 Hours.

    Final Rating: 7/10 - It was overall some casual fun - nothing spectacular. When games don't have a real deep lore that engages me, then I don't get really into the franchise and just treat it as casual fun that I can pick up cheap (picked this game up on a Steam winter sale). I'll probably check out Space Marine 2 when it launches (as long as it doesn't get woke or go Epic exclusive), but likely not at full price. Hopefully it will develop the story and universe better than the first iteration.    … Expand

The graphics are crisp, the environments are pretty engaging and the scenary is awsome, but the indoors can get bland at times, the character models and animations are awesome as well as the animations! The gameplay is fun and the transition between shooting and melee is smooth. The melee weapons stay useful throughout the game (at least halfway through where im at). In fact ever weapon slot has upgrades, so none of them get old. The story is okay, let me explain; its a pretty cool story, but it never really hashes out an overall objective and sometimes you feel like you are just running from one thing to another. I mean these guys never get a break? Even after winning battle after battle and turning the tide of an invasion, its like "big deal we got more sh** for you to do right now!" I would have much preferred a home base you can go to between missions and upgrade your weapon slots. It would have provided for some break in the action, plus it would allow for some cool customization between levels. Overall i think its gameplay is really fun and satisfying, at first it seems like just a hack and slash but button mashing will get you nowhere. You should plan out strategies for every big battle and you will be rewarded. Combined with the good graphics and passable story i think this game is definitely worth a play through. Multiplayer seems fun, although i only played a few games, i can see the draw in it. It really seemed important to stick with your squad. Even though i was facing people 15 levels higher than me i was able to finish with a 3-2 one game and a 4-5 another game, so i felt by no means hopelessly overmatched by the upgrades. I gave this game a 9 but now that ive played the whole thing i think an 8 is more suitable.… Expand

Ho giocato la versione in lingua inglese ed il doppiaggio è eccellente (con sottotitoli che rendono comprensibile la trama anche a chi non è avvezzo con l'inglese parlato).
    I programmatori sono riusciti a sfornare un game-play frenetico, soddisfacente e che non cade nella ripetitività comune ad altri giochi del genere. La trama è prevedibile ma poco importa in un gioco di azione come questo....specialmente perchè le sequenze animate usate per narrare gli eventi sono esaltanti e curate.

    El juego parte muy bien, el sistema de combate parece muy divertido, PERO, después de un rato te empiezas a dar cuenta que es siempre lo mismo. Es más el juego se acaba en pocas horas, pero se hace un poco largo por lo tedioso.
