    If you don't have premium, you will spend too much time on this game. Very tilting game when you get killed cross map through bushes. When gaijin gives you ghost shell and when the game randomly kicks you out or you get packet loss and pay 15k repair cost and get crew locked. In conclusion, recommended.

    I've been playing this for more than 5 years and it took me a year or two to feel that I am getting competitive. I never bought any packs, I just played the events and sometimes sold the materials/vehicles I don't need to buy some premium account time. So don't expect to learn the game right away as it is quite unforgiving. However, the joy in this game is in the learning process, and being able to try out new tactics using different historical vehicles.

    If you want to enjoy the game especially the top-tier modern stuff, prepare for the long haul as jumping right in using premiums without prior experience at that tier will just make you suffer.

    Overall it's a great game with an okay monetization model. For new players please play arcade first to get a feel then slowly try out realistic mode at around BR 3.7. And remember that the community highly values Realistic Battle (RB game mode) experience compared to Arcade (AB). That is because Arcade has a slightly different balancing compared to RB. Also worry not about the ping as long as it is not in the red you'll be fine. This game is not an FPS that needs a fast connection to get an edge. Tactics, vehicle speed, and positioning is the way of the game. Maps are large, tanks are slow, and shots arc over distance so you're internet connection should be able to handle it as long as you're not in the red.    … Expand

    This game is an incredible masterpiece of a game. It certainly has its many cons, and almost any player will have their complaints; yet everyone keeps coming back to play more. Playing with friends makes the experience even better, from the lowest tier and higher. I'll admit, the grind for    *Disclaimer* I have almost 1000 hours of in-match time and have spent some money on this game.

    This game is an incredible masterpiece of a game. It certainly has its many cons, and almost any player will have their complaints; yet everyone keeps coming back to play more. Playing with friends makes the experience even better, from the lowest tier and higher. I'll admit, the grind for new vehicles and progress can be frustrating and slow at times, but when you're able to just focus on the gameplay itself, and the fun you have, then the experience is so much better. Let the grind take a backseat and play the game lightheartedly, and you'll enjoy yourself!

    Overall, please give this game a try, convince some of your friends to join you in this experience, and overall just have a blast. I hope this helped

    Good game, but can get a bit grindy.

    One of the greatest plane-mouse controls on the market with a great compromise between realism and gameplay. Tank realistic mode is great for people who are looking for something more realistic then the normal arcady-healthbar style games whilst not making the barrier of entry super high.     The gameplay in matches are not pay2win but there are many systems in place such as the research system that is deliberately slowed too create draw toward paying money for premium time and premium vehicles. Grinding to the top is totally manageable without spending any money but will take along time and might get frustrating. With continues updates and new content being added throwing the developers some money for premium time/vehicles is totally worth it.

    Anyway, to the game. Its a very good concept on a fairly good engine, you can run it on a potato and still get 60 fps. Looks very good. The servers are however garbage except the EU servers and there are some very big bugs. That get "fixed" every 2 weeks but you are still able to encounter them. The Its fixed patches were a huge joke until the last month. Progressing without paying at least 20 bucks on the new years sale on a 180 day premium account is not impossible but really hard. After around Tier 3 you will suffer the enormus Silver lion (ingame base currency) and RP (Research Points) that you will need to earn.
    The game is hard, a lot of players are toxic a**holes, if you ask someone how to play a specific vehicle they will say "if you cant play the XY then simply dont play it". But go on r/WarThunder and they will help you out.
    Dont buy top tier premiums with nearly 0 experience because you will suffer. I play the game since 2013 and I still dont know how to play the Mustangs.    … Expand

    Bet war simulator out there. Modern tanks planes helis i one battle with true to life fizicks, sounds and apierence. Can run on a potato and can make look beutiful on powerful PC and consol. Been playing for 8 years now and will continiue.

At the time I started playing War Thunder, I was a WoT player and enjoyed that Gaijin had done a much better job at making a game playable on older PCs, where WoT was still struggling to get the servers up to speed and not bothering to give updates on developments they said were coming.

    What is said is the ridiculous amount of fake reviews trying to bash War Thunder and say World of warships World of Tanks and world of plans are better.

    Sad that either players or people working for wargaming resorted to try and bash a game that is far superior.

    If you're going to use somebody else's review to decide whether you play or not then you're going based on somebody else's opinion that could be bad internet bad computer so on. I strongly suggest you give it a try start with the arcade mode, then try out realistic, then try out sim, try the different vehicle lines see which ones you like.


    It truly is a very enjoyable game to play for me at least.


    My only con is the grind is pretty hard to get the end line vehicles, but it is enjoyable.    … Expand

    War thunder is very much a matter of "It's not perfect but its the best in class"
    The only other game of it's kind that I really worthy playing right now is World of Warships. And these two games are different enough that they don't overlap.

Есть много симуляторов, но они не онлайн. Есть много игр про технику, но они не столь реалистичны и красивы. Эта играЯ играю в эту игру уже 2 года, не сказать что это много, но достаточно чтобы повидать многое. Твой комп смахивает на печатную машинку прямиком из канцелярии рейхсфюрера СС? Не беда, ведь игра просто великолепно оптимизирована и на минимальных настройках её потянет любое ведро. Не забыли и про игроков с топовыми ПК, кому позавидовали бы передовые инженеры Пентагона. Для них существуют ультра настройки, где у вас глаза повылазят из орбит от красоты происходящего на экране.
    Что касается геймплейной составляющей, тут беспокоится не о чем. Приближенная(!) к реалистичной система повреждений, которой могут составить конкуренцию разве что топовые симуляторы. Есть возможность поиграть как аркадному геймеру-новичку, так и заядлому симуляторщику. Для этого предусмотрены различные режимы игры. Подбор техники происходит по боевому рейтингу, который иногда меняют, дабы получше сбалансировать игру.
    Если говорить о минусах (которые тут есть), можно отметить не идеальную систему повреждений. О ней можно говорить очень много, долго, хорошего и плохого но по-факту она зачастую может быть попросту случайной, а если добавить к этим случайностям нередкие баги дамаг модели, то получается весьма сомнительного качества картина. Но. Но. Гайджин стараются сделать реалистичные повреждения, а это весьма сложно, ведь определить и просчитать урон осколками или самим снарядом по различным типам брони и внутри них, невероятно сложно, а я напомню что вам это даётся на безвозмездной основе!
    В целом и общем, по-моему мнению это лучшее из того, что может вам предложить игропром в этом жанре. Да, она не идеальна, но если вы любитель техники, её истории и всяческих масштабных баталий, то эта игра подарит вам десятки, сотни, а то и тысячи весело проведённых часов.    … Expand

    This review is on aircraft, mainly. I find this game is flexible and will return what you put into it. If you like fast and furious action jump into arcade mode, if you like your planes harder to fly try simulator. I fly predominately realistic air battles with occasional sojourns into tank and naval action, but as an aviator both of these feel slow and cumbersome compared to even theThis review is on aircraft, mainly. I fly predominately realistic air battles with occasional sojourns into tank and naval action, but as an aviator both of these feel slow and cumbersome compared to even the most basic low ranking aircraft. Realistic offers . . . realistic physics, damage and fueling models into the game play, the maps and oppositions are a bit fantasy though, i don't recall BF109's ever serving in the pacific. You must manage your engine and understand the attributes of both your own and enemy aircraft to have any chance of regular success in WT. The greater part of this is flying tactically, doing things like climbing to the side of a map rather than straight at you opposition. I see so many players going headlong at the enemy every game which tends to develop into a 50/50 proposition. By climbing and engaging who and when i choose that proposition becomes more like 70/30. Simple but true. Critics complain about the economy and grinding to get planes. I disagree. At early levels planes are easy to research and upgrade, what you should concentrate on is getting your crew stats up to maximum and then upgrading that crew to expert (free with xp points) or ace (paid gold lions). Then every subsequent airplane that crew uses already have a very proficient crew. I have fighter specific pilots, who fly nothing but fighters and bomber specific crews, as with bomber crews it is important to make sure your defensive gunnery positions are crewed and manned by experienced crew members. FYI - i have been playing this game for years and have almost every plane for every air-force in the game. High rank planes and Jets take much longer to acquire, but so they should. Best fighter IMHO is the MkiX Spitfire, a little weak on armament compared to others but will literally fly circles around anything. Best light/medium bomber is the JU88A. This thing will outrun almost every enemy fighter with ease. It can dive at speeds up-to 680kph before structural failure, well beyond what any pursuing fighters can handle. It has air-brakes so you can do this vertically, also great for dive bombing and high approach speed landings. It also has enough bombs to take out 3 bases by itself or create havoc on ground forces with 2 x 500kg and 28 x 50kg payload. Just fly along a road a convoy is taking and pump out 50kg bombs, don't aim with the bomb recticle, just do it by feel, after a few attempts you will see what i mean. 10+ AI kills in one pass is common for me. The JU88 can also take a ton of damage an just keep going. I have flow halfway across the map at low level with both engines smoking and in the red-line for the whole journey on more than one occasion. My biggest critique and probably the most talked about fault of the game is the match making, where the game selects your opponents based on their and your BR (Battle Rating). It is just a fact that sometimes you do find yourself faced with far superior machinery, but this is realistic and that did happen. Fly to your strengths and only engage when you have the advantage, there's nothing so good as a Rank Does Not Matter award at the end of a battle. There will be times when YOU are the far superior aircraft. I remember spawning in my Meteor and was the only jet in the game and i was shot down by an F8F Bearcat when i was landing. If you are struggling to win, play tactically or join a squadron, its easier when a team co-ordinates it's actions. If you are new to realistic, learn to land as you will need to re-arm, refuel and repair at least once per mission in most fighters. Also learn to land on an aircraft carrier (imperative for Norway map Allied). If its not a carrier based plane with no tail hook land at 180kph, flaps down gear up. every plane in the game has very different flight and performance characteristics, spend alot of time in your favorites to master them and a little time in the planes you predominately fight against so you will know their strengths and weaknesses.     I think this is easily one of the best simulations of WWII that is out there today. How good the game looks and plays makes you feel like you are truly a part of history. And while the game is very realistic in how these battles play out it still has it's moments at times where you cant help but feel cheated. In real life the T-34 couldn't even penetrate the armor of the Tiger I much less the Tiger II.     Great battle mechanics, gameplay, realism.

    Personally I enjoyed playing arcade most of the time. The quick but fun battles are great. If you'd rather have uber realism then go into simulation mode. It is a pain in the *** but well worth it.

    It is absolutely free to play, despite what some people would have you believe. If you want to just play and have fun, you don't have to pay a cent. However, if you're impatient and want to grind all the vehicles within a year, you will need to at least buy a premium account which isn't actually expensive especially if you get it during a sale.

    The game is designed that way: it's free to play but if you really like it and/or want to grind fast, buy a premium account for a year during a 50% sale and at least one premium vehicle.

    I've been playing since mid-2014 and have found the best way to play is to play both air and ground forces of at least 3 nations and also to play cooperatively in a squad with others which increases your chances of survival and victory dramatically.

    Recently, the most exciting news besides the addition of naval battles and world war mode, is that War Thunder is not a WW2 or 1950s era game any more. Already it includes vehicles from the 1980s and according to the developers, they'll go up till the present-era with tanks, helicopters and possibly supersonic jets and even submarines!!    … Expand

    P/S: Premium tanks are not better than normal tanks, they just makes more money, and some premiums are maybe worse than their normal counterpart.     Great battle sim. The air combat is great and you really get the feel of the plane you are in from jets, bombers, to Japanese float planes. I confess I usually only play the tanks hoping I get enough points to bring out my p47 just to drop a couple 500 lbers on an unsuspecting tank. The AA in this game can be unforgiving if you get too close.

The game has evolved considerably since I first started playing. I can remember when each nation only had a handful of aircraft. Now the game boasts over 300+ Unique aircraft (Guiness World Record). And the game also now has tanks for Russia, Germany and the US. They just added a few premium British tanks as well.

    WarThunder has a variety of modes to appeal to a variety of different people. Arcade is a good mode for quick matches. Realistic battles are more challenging and remove aim indicators. And full sim battles are particularly intense in that your view is restricted to the commander or cockpit view.

    The vehicles all have distinct characteristics and models and perform differently as a result. You can go a whole match without scoring one kill and still come out on top of the leaderboard if you play the objectives. If you manage to belly land your plane after sustaining critical damage your rewarded for it. If you take a lot of hits your rewarded for it with an adamant reward. Playing in a squad and assist your team mate killing a tank; your rewarded for it. This is in stark contrast to a game like WoT. In WoT you get one spawn, and when your vehicle's HP pool is depleted thats it. In WarThunder you can try to get back to base in your plane. Or you can repair your tank in the field if you have the repair module unlocked. You aren't just given a static 'death' animation once your HP is depleted as you get in WoWP.

    It also needs to be said that the tanks have evolved quite a bit in WarThunder. With changes like ground deformation you see your tank's tracks sinking into the ground. And if you get into 'muddy' terrain. Your tank becomes covered in Mud and ends up bogged down. The new Dagor 4.0 engine allows for fully destructible environments.

    WarThunder also has a great customization system. You can put decals on your vehicles, adjust their camo, and on tanks you can even adjust how worn that camo is. Or you can load up the texture in photoshop or another program and make your own skins.

    WarThunder has a lot to offer especially for being a free game. People have criticized its microtransactions and premium vehicles. I think its important to distinguish that WarThunder is a free to play game. Your not paying $60 and another $50-60 on top of that for a season pass. Any free to play game needs to be monetized in some way. Its how the developer makes money off said game. The premium vehicles aren't pay to win either as some might suggest. In fact a fully upgraded stock tank tends to be better statistically than a premium of its tier. The only real advantage premium vehicles have is that they have greater credit and XP earning potential.

    You may find yourself coming back for more and more. I know I have. Especially when new vehicles are released. Like the recent addition of the B-29. What are you waiting for? Go download the game; and see you in the skies and on the ground!    … Expand

    Do not play "Arcade" battles in ground forces, you will be deeply disappointed as its all about super fast tank, drifting tanks, shell drop indicator (shows you exactly how much your shell will drop over distance so always guarantees a hit and penetration) and shooting at player name tags (You can see a player name tag across the map)... so in short there is absolutely no realism or strategy involved in "Arcade" battles, but then again that is why its called ARCADE BATTLES ffs, and that is where most people base their reviews on!

    Now "Realistic" and "Simulator" battles is where the game shines! The tanks travel at realistic speeds, they don't drift, no shell drop indicator (so you have to judge for yourself how much your shell will drop over the relevant distance *GASP*), and no player name tags (so you have to spot a tank with your own 2 eyes all on your very own *GASPS some more*). Realistic and Simulator modes is all about understanding your tank and knowing your opponent weak points when you run into him (his reload speed, armor thickness, weakspots, ammo rack positions etc) and its about patience, if you going to run around the map breaching cover everywhere you go you are going to get shot by someone sitting in cover probably well camouflaged and he is going to snipe your engine bay, stalling your tank, setting it on fire and then land 1 more shot on your ammo rack and *POOF* you are out of there... then you going to sit back and cry about campers or how biased the game is or how you can shoot another tank 8 times without killing him and he hits you dead with 1 round and then you going to b!tch about the game is broken etc... But bottom line is you just don't understand tank warfare or where to hit another tank for a critical shot. Realistic and Simulator modes are as realistic as you're going to get in this game genre, you just need to put a bunch of hours into the game to properly understand tank mechanics and tank warfare and not b!tch about the first person who shoots you from a distance and kills you with 1 shot because that is completely possible even in real life...

    People also complain about how the BR system is broken and the matchmaking is broken, those people are just idiotic beyond belief... Its Simple actually. If you've got 5 tanks in your line up, lets say 4 of them are tier 1 and 2 with BR 1 - 4 and your last tank is a tier 4 with a BR of lets say 7 for arguments sake, the game will only match you up with your highest tier tank which means your tier 1 and 2 tanks are going to face tier 4 tanks because you have a tier 4 tank in your line up and then complain about the matchmaking being broken and ask "How can a T-50 vs a Tiger 1H, the matchmaking is broken!! fack this game!!" but you were the one who put your tiny T-50 against a Tiger 1H by not understanding the matchmaking system. I will let you in on a secret, to beat the problem, make sure all the vehicles you take into battle are of the same BR. so don't take a tier 1 tank into battle with your tier 2 or 3 tanks because you will have a hard time, its really that simple! keep your vehicles in your line up at the same BR and you wont have a problem.

    Now that I'm done ranting on about stupid people... The game itself is great, its a free game but definitely isn't pay to win in any sense, but it is pay to progress faster than the free players as your gold eagles you buy only help you with research points and to buy premium tanks, there is no premium ammo to buy or any other nonsense that gives you an advantage over other players except for researching stuff faster than them. the graphics and visuals are outstanding and a brilliantly optimized game which you could probably run on your toaster, the sounds are brilliant, no generic sounds carried across vehicles, they all have their own unique sounds when it comes to engine and cannon fire etc. It's an all rounded brilliant games with a few rough edges that still need polishing out but its nothing game breakingly bad, most people wont even notice them... I would recommend this game to anybody who is a fan of realistic warfare and a fan or WWII era machines as this game is historically accurate and it really is one of a kind... Its a free game and extremely good, give it a go, but you need to put a bunch of hours into it to understand the game properly! and not jump ship after a few "Arcade" battles and then criticize the game for being a heap of **** because "Arcade" mode is a heap of ****    … Expand

    Great game with amazing graphics. Personally i don't like planes but tanks, the game has both so you can play both of them in the same game. Air events are a fun thing that will shift the balance very quickly.
    The developers have a great sense of humor. With my little ponies, walking tanks a potpie tanks during April the first!

    I have been playing this game since Oct 2015. I have greatly enjoyed my time and have encouraged everyone I know that games to pick it up. The beginning when you are trying to figure out what to update and research can be confusing so I would advise checking out the youtube videos gaijen puts out that explains a lot of the early need to know info.

    For a Free to Play game, War Thunder is extremely well polished and very fun to play. I have mainly played the tank portion of the game, and after 20+ hours I am impressed. There are plenty of tanks available and they are relatively balanced, although there definitely is a pro-Russian bias in both tanks and airplanes. Although some factions have a tough time starting off initially, onceFor a Free to Play game, War Thunder is extremely well polished and very fun to play.     I think, that is an epic game. You can choose so many of aircrafts and fight with them, that i give it 10 out of 10. The graphic is super and the sounds too. In the most airplanes you can get into a detailed cockpit. The best is, that you can choose that realistic mode you want to fly and there are so more thinks in the game you can do. Who want not to kill the guy that you kill before with an one thousand kg bomb on his face?

    Conclusion: A game you can play for long time, where to get a top tier vehicle in round about 2 month, if you play 2 hours per day and don't pay, money realistic is.( i get it in these time my first jet)
    So, if you want a fly-simulator game for nothing and against real players in the World War Two, is that what you like play.

    Switched from World of Tanks to War Thunder when they added tanks to the game. Best decision i ever made in my gaming life. Just give this one a try if you like World of Tanks. I assure you tank combat in War Thunder is 10x better. The progression system is a bit confusing at the start but once you figure it out you'll be hooked to your computer screen hours on end.

    People complained about the cut scenes in the campaign, this is an easy fix. Don't play campaign. If you don't like the cut scenes then just play multiplier, at first your going to find everything difficult, trust me with practice and a little effort, you can fly these planes like a champ. I found War thunder to my funnest personal retreat from my insulting "friends" and obnoxious habits.

    If you really enjoyed playing red orchestra ostfront 41-45 then you will love the tank battles in this game. Red Orchestra 2 while great for its infantry gameplay after the developers patched it does not have the number of tanks as its predecessor. While this game does not have the realistic interiors red orchestra or Darkest Hour had it does have some beautiful models. There is a tonIf you really enjoyed playing red orchestra ostfront 41-45 then you will love the tank battles in this game.     Most complaints about the tank battles are that they are slow, which is true. They are like red orchestra and I love it. Knowing a stewart won't penetrate my 50mm pzIII J unless he's 100 meters is the stuff you will be focusing on in realistic and simulation.

    The graphics are beautiful, the tanks grinding up a hill and changing gears sound wonderful. Top notch sound all around. WW2 is a great setting since so many different tanks were fielded compared to today. The maps are also very large but then again engagements are long range.

    I have limited experience with the airplane aspect of the game on account of wanting to do the simulations but not having a working joystick. From what I saw using the mouse and keyboard in the tutorial this game is on the level of arma. There is a button to just turn the engine on, flaps for take off, and a lot going on. Definitely room for some Red Barrens to rule the sky here. But if that scares people the arcade mode is more than accessible with the mouse and keyboard.

    Thats one great thing, it has stuff for quick less demanding games and stuff for people who are more enthusiast like myself. All on a great engine, I have had no crashes and only one of about 50 tank games disconnect.

    The menus are a bit confusing. You have to research and then purchase upgrades. Research uses its own currency and purchasing another. Same goes for tanks. There is premium money used for quicker upgrades and research or for buying bundles or a subscription. I have to say I really like the subscription model. Basically you put money in your steam wallet and then use steam to buy the currency which can be used for anything including a subscription. This means they don't have your info and you do not have to worry about recurring payments like I did in planetside once.

    The crew training is a little confusing. It would appear that you can only train crew for a certain tank and once you move them to another they start from scratch. This seems to make switching tanks in and out of your line up punish you.

    All in all if your looking for a pure simulation sorry, but if your looking for something close enough to the above mentioned game this is it. Like I said I have limited experience with the airplanes. Try it out, its free.    … Expand

    but with console players on the same servers as pc players you are guaranteed some easy kills and there are other methods of farming as well.

    i recomend this game to players that likes plane games, even though you are new to flying games arcade mode is a good place to start, with high number of players in a small map with multiple objectives and multiple spawns with your different crews and planes.

    Pros:
    Very functional flight mode
    Great graphics for a free game
    Paid items that are not too over powered
    Updates come monthly or so

    Cons:
    Tank mode can be really buggy
    Community can be frustrating at times

    Free to play business model and the customer support are the final major negatives concerning this game. For many players, especially on the lower end of the skill spectrum, the game may prove to have too much of a grind. New planes need to be unlocked through experience, bought with money, and then flown in several missions to unlock "upgrades" which simply bring the plane up to the stock standard. At lower levels this is merely annoying but with higher level planes the process can take a long time, which practically begs for purchasing of premium currency or experience boosters. Much of the discussion concerning any of the game's problems is shut down immediately on the game's official forums, and the support staff act in a very authoritarian fashion even in the face of obvious bugs, denying any problems.

    This all goes out the window though once you play and manage to be the last plane in the air after a brutal furball, or outmaneuver a skilled opponent to achieve a killing snapshot on his aircraft. Just remember that the "end-game" content shouldn't be the goal - fly the aircraft that look cool, fly the aircraft that are fun to play, and ignore the rest of the grind.    … Expand

    True-F2P or P2W? Definitely a true Free to Play game. All premium planes aren't necessary going to make you better. E.g. (Premium planes are captured planes of other nations or planes/tanks that did not pass from the test flights/drives, all will face planes according their stats)

    Another thing I want to address is that there are also people crying about how a specific faction's guns are a bit weaker. Ex. 3 Cannons Japs vs 4 Cannons Fw190. Despite historical accuracy, this is a great balancing decision. Using the above example. Fw190 is an energy fighter which requires a complete different style to fly (aka boom and zoom), which means that the window of triggering is only a fraction of a second. On the other hand, Jap Zeros are turn fighters which means they will have more time on target, therefore slightly less fire power to even out the playing field.

    I rarely give games 10s but I think this game deserves every single score of mine. Developers are CONSTANTLY adding more features and new vehicles with World War Mode coming soon (Don't quote me). It is a mode where everyone fight in different threaters of wars which influences each other (i think, not many details are out).

    One of the best Airplane FPS shooters I have ever seen. Offers different view modes and a variety of different planes. Ground Forces (Tanks) is now in OBT (Open Beta Testing) and has a few bugs but is not bad. Naval Forces are coming soon.

    After playing arcade battles for a few months (and spending like 50$), I'm starting to like this game more and more. The skill gap between players is HUGE, with 3-4 top players getting 90% of kills each match. Luckily, I'm one of them. Chances are if you have some experience with mouse flying from other games, you will like the game too. MOUSE FLYING IS AWESOME and joystick is not really needed for arcade battles.

    The scoreboard for most matches lookes like 8-6-4-2-1-1...0-0-0-0-0, with some planes(P39,P63) clearly performing better than others. A lot of players in tiers 1 to 3 seem completely blind and oblivious to the radar, so they get sniped by autocannons from the side at 0.77km.

    My review is based on Arcade mode, as I found Realistic or Simulator battles to have too few players, long waiting times and 5 minute flights to get to the objective. Arcade battles drop two teams of 15 players head on, with pretty nice furballs developing within a couple minutes or so. This is much more fun than World of Tanks or World of Warplanes.

    In terms of country balance, it seems that each nation has good planes and mediocre placeholders. Americans have P-39 and P-63 which seem to insta-chop-off-my-wings very frequently. Russians have IL-2 and I-16. German entire line of heavy fighters is awesome (BF-110 to Do-217 to ME-410). The only country I don't understand is Japan, as their planes seem too fragile and poorly armed.

    The game has a couple of arcade play modes, mostly capture the airfield or bomb out enemy base. Both have ground units that move and can be destroyed with bombs or rockets. There's bunkers, tanks, ships and it seems like in the future each may be player controlled.

    The in-game currency seems reasonably priced, with a month of premium account costing about 15$, comparable to most other MMOs. I personally found that spending just 10-20 golden eagles is enough to raise a plane to 100-150 crew level, required to turn a plane's crew into "expert". Doing so offers in-game bonuses of slower gun overheating, less blackouts during high-G turns and quicker reload times.    … Expand

    This game's former progression system was pretty good. Getting to the jets wasn't too tricky, and money was never a problem for me. Now, things are slightly different(or very). With this new system, you have to grind each plane one by one, just like WoT, which I don't like, but have gotten through. Its not as good as it used to be, but its not as bad as some say.

    Planes

    This game has a massive selection of planes, and soon, tanks. All major countries of WW2 have their lines of aircraft. You will be able to fly Yak 9s, Mustangs, Zeros, B17s, Spitfires, Typhoons, Bf 109s, Fw 190s, etc. and even jets. Its competitor, WoWP, doesn't even have british planes, and misses many great aircraft, like the P47, the F6F(which is the reason I won't play it until), the Fw190(which is intolerable). But, as always, there is always some ridiculous things that are in this game. There is a common joke that the USSR has OP planes(which is somewhat true at points, but at the time of writing this, I have just finished a 7 game losing streak in russians). But there are tons of aircraft, and they mostly are good.

    Game modes(multiplayer)

    There is a arcade mode, which is a simpler game mode for everyone, realistic mode, which is for more seasoned pilots, and then simulator battles, which is the joystick land of War thunder(which I've never played in). Its like 3 games in one. Not only that, there is even a singleplayer, but it's not the greatest.

    Money

    Yes, many people say that this is pay to win, but let me tell you straight, they just are bad a flying. If you are a good pilot, you can beat anyone you face. Prem planes aren't expensive compared to WoT($10:$50, yeah, $40 dollars cheaper than the best Wot Prems, hooray), and they DON'T give any advantage besides more money. And when it comes to repairs and ammo, they aren't the money suckers like in WoT. You can play this game completely free(I did until all my countries were tier 3).

    So in short, this game is great, and like every game, it has drawbacks. Some days, you will be pissed at it, and others, it will feel like you are jesus, bu overall, this game is great, and is free, sooo,

    An excellent FTP game, gameplay is superb. Like all FTP titles, the problems come with the in-game economy. Grind times are horrendous, even if you choose to pay money for a "premium account", but the game is fun enough to start out, so that that isn't really a problem. The game does get boring after the first 400 or so hours, though.

    For all the people giving negative reviews because they "randomly die instantly", i had the same problem. Except, i Googled it. Instead of doing nothing and running out of ideas. Turns out you just increase the pilots vitality, and/or get a covered cabin and it's solved.
    Awesome game, i don't think it's really PTW because, it really does reward Human player skill level.     Awesome game, i don't think it's really PTW because, it really does reward Human player skill level. And being a well seasoned gamer on all genres & platforms, i know my way around a game. This is what i Love about it, if you are actually good at aiming a mouse and tracking people, then you hit and kill regardless of the other guy spending $1000 bucks. With the exception of fully upgraded AI guns on Bombers, which are tough.

    Now... What we have in War Thunder:

    - Impressive graphics (And I don't have NASA computer).
    - Best dogfighting EVER and with that I mean memorable and sometimes absolutely epic fights between other players
    - Plane parts enhancements
    - Crew enhancements (G-force tolerance, vitality, visibility, etc...)
    - A ton of planes
    - Best mouse aim system in years
    - Even in "arcade" mode, quite realistic behavior

    Closure comments: Plz, give it a try. I cannot say about realistic and simulation modes (joystick needed) coz I haven't played them but the "arcade" mode is THE FUNNIEST THING IN AGES!

    The best session MMO and the easiest way to learn how to fly, with getting small history lesson. After WarThunder flying school, you would not have any trouble with some hardcore sim, like BoS, or DCS.

    I think, the main feature of the game is rather detailed phisical model wich generate various interesting situation.
    War Thunder isn't the most easy game I've been played. But if you spent some time to acquaint with it You won't regret.

    I played IL2 Sturmovik online and I can say if you think WT will beat IL2 in sim field you're wrong. But that ok because frankly i think IL 2 rather boring. Too much sim to my taste. So overall I find WT better than IL 2 (sim part not included)

    The official launch of War Thunder reminded me why I like this game so much. It's adorably chaotic - in contrast to the reliably designed World of Tanks. That's why it can be really fun and frustrating at the same time. There's tons of great vehicles (and the planes are superb!) and a difficult simulation mode, but there are also balance and technical issues.
