    Starts as the perfect RPG game then you start feeling the rush in the development, with frustrating and boring, repetitive zones in the last missions. The combat system could be better. Still unmatched atmosphere and voice acting, interesting main and side quests. A sequel would blow the *** out of every other modern "rpg", too bad Troika went out of business.

    It daunts me to give this game a high score, for it certainly got its share of problems. For one, it is buggy and therefore needs at least the official patch to iron out most of the glaring faults and I would recommend the unofficial patch by Wesp5 to improve the experience to the level that a high score demands. In addition the game has some other problems such as pacing.

    The game has a fascinating background story. Vampires are obviously more powerful than humans, but dependent on them for blood and also in fear of them for humans have sheer numbers on their side. That is why pretense is essential. The pretense that there are no vampires, but also the pretense a vampire needs to uphold towards others in personal relations, for underneath skulks the beast that wants to get out and feed. Just like the vampires have to uphold the masquerade to survive, so they have to control the inner beast to be able to function in society. But ultimately a vampire needs to pretend just to get near its prey.

    The first half of the game is the strongest part. It is the part where you are introduced to vampire 'society', a world of darkness where you prey and are preyed upon. The 'society' is split in various factions that do not always see eye to eye and some are outright hostile, like the Sabbat. Some stress order, compliance and holding up the illusion that there is only humanity -the masquerade- like the Camarilla headed by 'prince' LaCroix who acts as if he is the de facto ruler of the city. Therefore revealing that you are a vampire will eventually get you killed. The Anarchs, headed by Nines Rodriguez, beg to disagree on the ruling part, while the Sabbat is almost the opposite of what the Camarilla stands for, maintaining that vampires are superior to humans and therefore should not skulk in the darkness but step out into the open to claim their position of dominant species.

    The world of darkness is a society filled with intrigue and backstabbing where you feel like you are being played, even by those that pretend to be your friends. Even within a faction there are groups with their own agendas. The Tremere for instance, the magic users among the vampires, support the Camarilla and the Masquerade, but have their own ideas on the best course of action .

    The game is very good in creating this dark atmosphere and without a doubt this is helped by the music in the game, both the background music and the gothic/metal tracks that you can hear at various places and which seem to reference the state of being of a vampire such as Isolated by Chiasm and Smaller God by Darling Violetta. In addition the background story, with its apocalypse-is-nigh theme, matches well with the dark mood of the game.

    There are, however, many faults. Most notably the latter part of the game turns into a dungeon crawler of sorts and the role play part takes a definite backseat. In addition the game never explains how you, being a mere fledgling vampire, can grow so powerful in such a short time as to whip the asses of the most powerful of vampires. But most of all the game violates the basic precept that the world of darkness is a world of illusion several times over, by having you openly fight out prolonged battles in the city instead of finding a more creative solution that would have fitted the mood better. I do not advocate a stealth game here, but at least a more fitting solution could have been found(tricking one faction to off another for instance).
    The latter half therefore feels like it was rushed.

    Despite the weaker second half, the many bugs, and the inherent faults, this game keeps me fascinated. I played it several times as the game has various endings and some quests can be solved in different ways. The clans gives you different abilities allowing for different play styles from stealthy to openly brutal.

    If it had been a more finished product and kept to the theme it would have earned a higher score. Still one of my all time favorite games.    … Expand

    Troika at its best. Pure genius. Better than witcher 3 and Skyrim together. This game is a definition of real role playing game. Shame there is no sequel.

    This game ranks in my top 10 of best games both for storyline and graphic comparison ran amazingly on my 6 year old pentium 4 1.8ghz with 640mb ram and integrated graphics now thats ability to play on a wide array if i've ever seen one i had one glitch in the game however the unoffical patch at filefront took care of that i recemend both the unoffical and offical patches for this This game ranks in my top 10 of best games both for storyline and graphic comparison ran amazingly on my 6 year old pentium 4 1.8ghz with 640mb ram and integrated graphics now thats ability to play on a wide array if i've ever seen one i had one glitch in the game however the unoffical patch at filefront took care of that i recemend both the unoffical and offical patches for this game before you play as it helps in the long run.     Yes, this game has bugs. That's what patches are for. I waited to play VTMB until one was available. Glad I did! I haven't had this much fun playing a RPG since KOTOR. Bottom line: If you like games like Morrowind, KOTOR, and Deus Ex, and you have a PC that can handle the load, then run out and buy this game immediately.

    I believe the direct opposite from Jeff S. I think the Santa Monica part is slightly boring, but once you get to Hollywood it starts getting, well amazing. As I am writing this, Troika has recently shut down. So there probably wont be any more patches, which is incredibly dissapointing. But it isn't their fault, it's Acitivisions.     I have played this game several times through without ever having a problem. People who rated the game low because of "HL2 looks so good, this game should have looked better based off the same engine"; I have two reasons to give. First, this game was released the SAME DAY as HL2. Do you honestly think that they are going to even compete with the developer of the engine? Anyone having problems with high end systems (One user posted he had a P4 3GHz and a 6800GT, etc) there is something wrong with your rig. When I first played this game, It was on an Athlon 64 3000+ 512Mb RAM and a GeForce 6600. Everything on High on at 1280x1024 without ANY problems. The game looks amazing, even compared to HL2. The story is great. Replayability is the best I've seen. Now that I have it on STEAM, I'm sure I'll play even more.… Expand

    This is a totally unique first-person RPG experience. Troika did an amazingly job crafting a believable vampire world full of interesting characters you can meet and get to know. This is truly a game you experience rather than just play. Even though I played it years ago, so many scenes are so fresh in my mindâ

    NOTE: YES, You can play this game on Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit. Just select the .EXE for the game and click on Run in XP Mode with Service pack 3. So far it's a unique game. I waited until Steam had it on sale for $4.99.

    Fantastic RPG. It's unfortunate more RPGs like this aren't made anymore. Games like Skyrim excel only in their open world aspects. Their RPG aspects are few compared to games like this and Deus Ex. Just don't forget to patch it

    I must state that I play games for their stories' and immersion, while some people may find other mediums of entertainment such as TV and Film to indulge in better stories; this game did not disappoint. The story of the Vampire clans vying for control in L.A and the underlying plot about a certain object is well thought out and crafted, supported by top-notch voice acting; all thanks to the Source engine.

    Graphically this game may look dated now that we are in 2013, but don't be fooled it still captures the gritty setting perfectly. The gameplay may also be dated, however as stated I mainly play games for their stories' and as a result tend not to focus on 'high' graphics and 'great' game-play. (I'm not saying it isn't integral of course). Speaking of the gameplay, the amount of variations that are found in the different vampire clans is fresh. For example if you play as a mad-stricken Malkavian, this may open up specific dialogue options and immersive events; and that's not even including the different powers and abilities.

    The game design isn't open-world, but boy it is fun to explore! The side-quests may not be as numerous as the ones' found in Skyrim or other top RPGs'. However the quests in VTMB are rich, immersive and are genuinely fun to play.

    Overall I find this game to be in my top 20, and would recommend this game to anyone who likes fresh, original, and immersive stories coupled with vampire fiction and good but not revolutionary game-play.    … Expand

    Like Troika games previous efforts, this game doesn't feel finished. there were many times when i needed to search the forums for work arounds to problems, which prevented me from advancing in the game. in fact, this game is so buggy that a 'fan created' patch was released to fix some of the bugs. an official patch is now avaliable but in my opinion its too little too late.

    There are some key differences though that really bring this game down, and only a few points that bring it up. First off it's not open world - at least not really.     Skills aren't very well done - some skills are straight up better than others and some are almost useless. This results in very similar characters each time you play.
    Equipment is mostly a joke - you don't really get much say in the matter each chapter has a better piece of equipment and you wear that for that chapter. Either that or you wear your weaker armor just so you can feel like you had some choice in the matter.
    Combat is a bit of a mix. Sometimes you feel like your really struggling and have to get the combos just right, other times it's a simple button mash. Mostly the latter.
    Last of the negatives is that the game is rather buggy at times. I once had a game breaking bug where I killed someone before the cutscene and couldn't progress.

    The positives are few but good enough to make the game stand out.
    It's much darker than something like fallout or skyrim. It's bloody and some characters really made an impression of being evil. The characters in general are well done - well except the main character, he/she is a bit cliche. Everyone else though felt like an actual person with believable motivations.
    Races do feel different from each other, though because of the skill systems flaws - some races also feel straight up better than others.

    Don't expect something quite as good as the other titles I mentioned, but I was pleasantly surprised by this little gem.    … Expand

    Runs bad, doesn't flow well, isn't too much fun except for a few good scares. How could Half Life 2 have done so much with this engine, and this game did so little?

    I'm not sure if the people listed above are playing the same game as I am. Not only does the game run slow on my machine (P4 3ghz, 2 gig of ram, 6800GT) but combat is absolutely awful. Melee feels totally thrown together and never flows very well. Guns, so far, seem worthless since I can't seem to hit someone about 3 feet in front of me. My firearms skill is still pretty low, so I'm not sure if the people listed above are playing the same game as I am.     This is the kind of game that seems very impressive the first few times playing. but after a few hours its many faults begin to show. i believe this is the reason for the high ratings its been getting. the bugs make the game too fustrating to be enjoyable.

    Dont bother if you use Vista. It will take hours of fidling and may work for you. An exercise in frustration trying to get it to work.

That is the sole reason these people overrated this game. That is why this POS shows up on every "underrated" list everywhere. This is why it has a user score of 8.9 on metacritic. Is it worth it? NO.

    Is it worth playing today? No. It was barely worth playing back in 2004, it certainly is a waste of time now, even with the latest community patch. There are thousands of better games than this now. Leave it to the emo/goth kids and invest your time on something more worthwhile, like in any game made after 2010...

    Or, if you want a Vampire the Masquerade game, play its predecessor, Redemption. It is so much better than this it is not even funny.    … Expand

    The story is good, the gameplay is ok too but the game is full of glitches... having promised MP and then scraped in the end, low replayability value but still a good game.

Now that I have windows 7 on all my machines, my daughter came to visit this summer, I can't get it working with any of the patches, on any of my windows 7 rigs. Be careful when downloading patches from outside sources, and the ones we got from steam didnt work fix the compat issues.

    But ultimately disappointing, even with massive mod support from the community.

    The bugs ruined this for me. Far too much time spent trying to chase down fixes and implementing them rather than time spent on the game itself. Enough of that and it's more tempting to go load up another game instead.

    The best vampire RPG game of all time and probably the best RPG of all time. I finished yesterday (December 2021) first time and it holds pretty well. Unofficial Patch Plus is required and this mod was updated in 2021 for 2004 game.

    Love the rpg elements and the voice acting is sometimes cringe great and just grade A voice acting. High recommendation for any RPG fan.

    However, now that the gaming community has fixed most bugs and reintroduced most cut features, VTM:B's strengths begin to shine free of the tarnish of poor production quality. The action isn't bad, but the true appeal here is simply the best combination of voice acting, characters,    Pre-patches and mods, I would agree with the 8.0 rating. This game was simply rushed.

Like a good wine, Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines is a game to be appreciated to its full extent, with time and without rushes. Anyway, this has to be the best storyline ever made for a game. The plague quest or even the serial killer one have better arguments then most top selling games nowadays. Also, the Source Engine allows some "moments" that you won't forget so soon. The Haunted Mansion is just plain frightening. And I'm not exactly 14 years old. I was actually jumping away from the screen in my chair. The combat system is kind of basic, but the different powers make it always interesting. It's a must to replay this game to actually understand how different clans offer different approaches to the same situations. All in all, Bloodlines is just mandatory for everyone who enjoys a good story. If you like vampires, you will fall in love with this game. Never vampires were so deep, emotional or real. Definitely a game that will suck you in (pun intended :P).… Expand

(graphic glitches, loading issues, cut scenes problems, crash bugs and a few instances where events don't take place and you must reload from your last save and place through the sequence again to get it to 'click') the game is worthy of a sequel no doubt, but aswell there is no doubt one will never be seen. It's a solid 9.5... but loses 1.5 to bugs.… Expand

    Bloodlines suffered initially from nasty bugs, but after patching this game plays fantastic and is one of the most true-to-form and well presented games I've ever seen. Those seeking a weaving, twisting plot and interesting characters need look no further!

    Once properly patched to eliminate bugs, Bloodlines stands out as perhaps the finest and most engrossing mature RPG's ever created for the PC. If you are even a tiny bit intrigued by this title, then I encourage you to go ahead and purchase Bloodlines. I promise that you will not be disappointed by this uniquely fascinating RPG classic.

    I just played this for the first time, three years after the original release, and I'm really impressed by the story, atmosphere, and especially the dialogue. Excellent game. Certainly not perfect -- I thought it could have focused more on story and less on sewer crawls -- but it's still a wonderful game. The bugs are largely gone with the last official patch.

    Best game i have played in....a loooong time. I would give it a 10, if not for the bugs. There where a few times I had to cheat (noclip in the console) to get unstuck. But the story, characters, everything but the bugs, are freakin amazing. You really feel the grit of the World of Darkness.

    To my own surprise, I'm hooked on this over HL2. Wonderful integration of RPG systems and action combat, gritty mature storyline, and a completely immersive world. I didn't know about this game until a week ago- but I hope this the first of a series! Valve we need more games like Bloodlines!

It's one I consider quite classic (like Diablo, or FFVII) even though it may have it's flaws (which I personally notice very few but they are worth noting). Besides that however there is just to much for me to love in this game, great graphics (thank you Valve for your wonderful source engine) awesome story as well as sub plots and the like all of which are very fascinating and in my opinoin the only way to truly appreciate this game is to play it at least twice to see it from the perspective of a different clan as each has its own unique experiences. For instance, Nosferatu cannot walk above ground for they are obviously not human and that would break the masquerade, theres one clan that is insane and their dialect when speaking makes it obvious as well as some nice little touches to the TV and some other things that will make you wonder if your not insane too. So yeah, this game is worth getting and playing alot if your an action/rpg fan biggest problem honestly to me is the world feels to small but trust me most times you may not notice.     If you are a fan of the vampire genre then you are in for a real treat. The game has many many flaws but man did they nail a lot of it. Voice acting was superb and the writing was good. However, since the company went broke before the game really took off it was left in a general state of disrepair and the game plays like a beta.     Literally the best game ever made. The writing is amazing, so is the soundtrack and so were the graphics at the time (kind of). The "dark"/"criminal"/"sexy" atmosphere in this game is just unparalleled. I replayed this game 9x.

    This game! This game is ace and each time I play it i'm in awe. The mood and atmosphere makes you want to find a vampire coven in real life...the original soundtrack is amazing too.

    it capture most of the essence of the pen e paper game.
    well done.
    You will remember Npcs, Music, dialogues and so on for ages.
    It's not aged very well Technically but it's a classic.
    After 16 years now we get a Sequel.
    Try it before the sequel came out.

    A really fun rpg that does vampires right, there are so many interesting vampire classes that gives you alot of options, World is linear but quests and story is great. This is a must buy for everyone. It only costs 5 $ during the steam summer sales.

Dall'utilizzo delle armi da fuoco, ad attributi come la forza fisica o l'intelligenza o anche nell'utilizzo dei suoi poteri speciali da vampiro.
    I poteri sono suddivisi in tre categorie di cui due comuni a tutti i clan (l'equivalente delle classi) e il terzo è unico di quel determinato clan che si sceglierà all'inizio del gioco.
    Questo già da una spinta molto grande alla rigiocabilità che, in un RPG, è un aspetto molto importante in mia opinione.

    Ma non solo le differenze nel gioco le vedremo in base al clan di appartenenza, ma anche alla nostra build che ci porterà a poter affrontare le sfide in maniera differente di volta in volta. Nonostante non sia possibile evitare sempre lo scontro diretto è comunque possibile evitarne gran parte concentrandosi sullo sneaking, sull'essere in grado di intimidire o persuadere gli NPC o sul trovare strade alternative grazie al lockpicking o al hacking dei terminali.

    Il gioco è un "Semi open world" in quanto è diviso in 4 aree principale in cui potremo girare liberamente per cercare sidequests o parlare con gli NPC, ma solo una volta sbloccate per la prima volta. Sono poi presenti aree separate dal resto del mondo accessibili solo durante determinate missioni.

    La trama è incredibilmente interessante concentrandosi sia sugli equilibri di potere di Los Angeles sia sul mistero che permea l'aria dall'arrivo in città del protagonista. Nel corso del gioco si incontreranno un sacco di personaggi carismatici e ben caratterizzati o comunque affascinanti. Partendo dai vampiri anarchici e finendo con gang malavitose cinesi. Purtroppo da questo punto di vista il gioco è forse un po' carente in quanto la storyline principale è sempre una sola (nonostante ci siano finali multipli in base a varie scelte prese durante tutto il gioco) e non è possibile decidere, ad esempio, di giocarlo interamente come anarchico, solitario o altro. Per fare un parallelo con il mio RPG preferito è come se in New Vegas i finali multipli rimanessero, ma si fosse costretti a seguire necessariamente la storyline della RNC. Non l'ho apprezzato moltissimo, ma ciò è forse derivato dal suo essere meno open world e più "corto" rispetto a New Vegas.
    Posto che comunque non è un lato totalmente negativo.
    Questo essere più ristretto permette anche una maggiore cura dei livelli e dei dungeon che si affrontano, cosa che manca in altri titoli più estesi.

    Il sistema di combattimento come in molti giochi simili è, ad essere gentili, alquanto mediocre. È possibile combattere a mani nude, con armi bianche o con armi da fuoco. In alcuni casi anche usando le abilità vampiriche a nostro vantaggio, ma non c'è nulla che lo renda realmente interessante. Pugni e armi bianche funzionano all'incirca allo stesso modo: spammando il click sinistro fino ad aver ucciso il proprio nemico. Discorso abbastanza simile con le armi da fuoco che nella migliore delle ipotesi hanno una modalità di fuoco aggiuntiva.
    Le bossfight rimangano fortunamente interessanti perché quasi tutte presentano un twist su cui ragionare per vincere.

    Per tirare le somme:
    VM:B è un gioco che ogni appassionato del genere dovrebbe giocare, nonostante qualche problemuccio sia tecnico che di design di cui però so che una unofficial patch dovrebbe risolvere andando a ripristinare anche missioni e contenuti extra esclusi dal prodotto finale per mancanze di tempo.

    Super cool, love the characters, the world and the story. Nice RPG system, dense atmosphere, I highly recommend it. A true classic.

    But if you buy it, you need to know that you have to download a community patch. The patch repairs many bugs and the game runs on newer computers as well.

    The only downside to Bloodlines is it's lategame, everything else is top notch. It has one of the best characters in RPG (detalization, animation and voice-acting are perfect), interesting quests and engrossing atmosphere.

    I played this game with a lot of mods as the base game was buggy and broken. When it worked the setting, characters and world building are amazing. The politics of the vampire world are really interesting and the story is very engaging until the end where it gets a little to action shooter.

Many times you’ll get stuck in the map and Noclip will become your best friend. In my playthrough, IVampire Masquerade: Bloodlines is a game that was released in 2004 and was low-rated then and vastly over-rated today. The game can’t even be run without the Unofficial Patch (which contrary to many reviews is very simple to install) and even with that the game is still janky as all heck. Many times you’ll get stuck in the map and Noclip will become your best friend. In my playthrough, I had to use it at least 12 times.

    Even though it’s said to be a great masterpiece, it’s nowhere close to even being remembered down the road. The story and atmosphere start out strong in the Santa Monica map but once heading out from there the game turns into fetch quest after fetch quest until you’re just running through enemies with no story or gameplay in sight.

    Gameplay is just a non-existent mess. Most quests expect you to stealth through them without hurting anybody but stealth fluctuates between not working at all or no one can find you even if you’re on top of them. Then the others you have to fight your way through but the combat in this game is some of the worst I’ve ever seen. You can’t aim a gun to save your life no matter how many points you invest. God mode will be your second best friend by the time you’re halfway through Hollywood. If you get to the sewer levels in Hollywood, you’ll understand completely, and my thoughts go with you.

    Whatever you do, do not buy this game. If you’re looking for a strong RPG story game, this is not the place to find it and if you’re looking for well-crafted combat, you’ll be just as disappointed. This game is a mess that no one actually loves and certainly would never play a second time. Save your money and buy a real game. Heck I would even recommend Vampyr over this and I still only found that to be so-so, but at least it was mostly enjoyable.    … Expand

Подкачала только глобальная история, которая оказалась совсем уж тривиальной. Ну и стим-версия В КОТОРУЮ НЕВОЗМОЖНО ИГРАТЬ ИЗ-ЗА БАГОВ. Тот случай когда лучше поиграть в пиратку, допиленную фанатскими патчами, которые привели этот шедевр в играбельный вид. Сам с нетерпением жду продолжения. Рекомендую фанатам атмосферных хорроров, хоть и игрушка не совсем уж является хоррором. Ценителям нарративных находок очень понравиться. В общем, готический стиль, вариативное прохождение, реиграбельность, плотный сценарий, необычная рпг-составляющая, хороший саундтрек. Если ценишь все эти параметры, то играй. Хороших аналогов этой игрушке я ещё не находил.… Expand

    It is very old game. Graphics were good for that time. Maybe sounds were not atmospheric and story is not best but you can give this game a shot if you want to roleplay a vampire character. I will give marks in its own category.

    Since this is an RPG In the beginning we must to choose our class(clan).Classes are very important since it affects the gameplay in many ways.Clan Malkavian for instance have the ability to see the reality at it's full extent.

    The storyline is surprising but in good way.You don't know where the story will lead you which makes the experience even more fascinating!There are of course some obvious hints of what shall happen with certain beings...And the ending(at least mine)was great.Though there are more than a few bad ones,so make your choice wisely.

    Game without a map.How's that?All you have is your hub and discription to your current objective.Personally I think the game became a rather more intresting that it could've been,because you need to remember all the stores and shops within the area to find them(or you could spend some time wandering in frustration.The decision is yours).

    Characters.I won't say anything that could affect your impressions or spoil the game.But the atmosphere of distrust towards most of them won't let go of you until the game is over.And it is such a grand and successful attempt to make you feel what it is to be among vampires.Though some of them will surely surprise you.

    Music. "Isolated", "A Smaller God", "Trip the Darkness" are the first that came to mind right away.Soundtrack might be the greatest part of the game that adds to the atmosphere of the dark and sinful City of Angels.

    The game still have many bugs and a few problems,but as I said,the patch makes them dissapear.And it's a game that you will surely want to play at least once more after you finished it.
    8/10 it's not perfect but it is the best game about vampires.    … Expand

Yes, there are better games, especially from a technical point of view, but the atmosphere, the story, the characters and generally all the rpg elements still make this game one of the best in its genre.     Считаю данную игру лучшей по вселенной World of Darkness и VAMPIRE: THE MASQUERADE в частности. Неоцененный шедевр своего времени.     If you were disappointed with the recent FPS titles and their somewhat lackluster plot and linear storylines, then you will probably find Bloodlines to be a refreshing change, however on the other hand, a few technical and design issues let it down.
