    This game is probably still one of the most buggy games since its release. It's been a long time since the developers forgot about their game, but despite thousands of unofficial updates, the game is still full of bugs that make it unplayable today.

    Love the rpg elements and the voice acting is sometimes cringe great and just grade A voice acting. High recommendation for any RPG fan.

    O jogo foi desenvolvido na Source Engine e sinceramente não é um grande jogo, tem muitos bugs, os gráficos são feios, ele trava, crasha e apresenta diversos problemas ao longo da gameplay. Mas para época que foi feito é um game de mapa aberto, múltiplas escolhas, diversos NPC's, diversas formas de progredir no game...Então tem de dar o braço a torcer para época que foi feito alcançando a nota de 80/8,9 no Metacritic.
    Porém o brilho do jogo é realmente a história com vários desdobramentos, finais, caminhos e principalmente ideologias que você poderá seguir ou ir de contra.
    Todos os clãs são representados com maestria e a trama é interessante e cheia de reviravoltas fazendo jus de como é complexo e rico o universo de Vampiro: A Máscara.
    Um prato cheio para quem gosta de boa história, para quem é fã do universo ou para quem não se importa com gráficos ruins e jogo envelhecidos...Recomendo!    … Expand

The range of emotions on the characters facial expressions is at times exaggerated but a welcome change from the stone faces of the majority of games on the market. This couples well with excellent voice acting from industry veterans. The game also stands apart thematically from most other games on the market, making it a treasure for those seeking original ideas in a space that is mostly saturated with repetitions of the same medieval fantasy, sci fi, or modern era settings.    … Expand

    its a really well made game, tons of good things to say about it. gunplay is on point, gameplay mechanics work fine enough... fast paced and skill based . environments are beautiful , but maybe the gameplay was not considered big time designing some of the maps.

The game can’t even be run without the Unofficial Patch (which contrary to many reviews is very simple to install) and even with that the game is still janky as all heck. Many times you’ll get stuck in the map and Noclip will become your best friend. In my playthrough, IVampire Masquerade: Bloodlines is a game that was released in 2004 and was low-rated then and vastly over-rated today. The game can’t even be run without the Unofficial Patch (which contrary to many reviews is very simple to install) and even with that the game is still janky as all heck. Many times you’ll get stuck in the map and Noclip will become your best friend. In my playthrough, I had to use it at least 12 times.

    Even though it’s said to be a great masterpiece, it’s nowhere close to even being remembered down the road. The story and atmosphere start out strong in the Santa Monica map but once heading out from there the game turns into fetch quest after fetch quest until you’re just running through enemies with no story or gameplay in sight.

    Gameplay is just a non-existent mess. Most quests expect you to stealth through them without hurting anybody but stealth fluctuates between not working at all or no one can find you even if you’re on top of them. Then the others you have to fight your way through but the combat in this game is some of the worst I’ve ever seen. You can’t aim a gun to save your life no matter how many points you invest. God mode will be your second best friend by the time you’re halfway through Hollywood. If you get to the sewer levels in Hollywood, you’ll understand completely, and my thoughts go with you.

    Whatever you do, do not buy this game. If you’re looking for a strong RPG story game, this is not the place to find it and if you’re looking for well-crafted combat, you’ll be just as disappointed. This game is a mess that no one actually loves and certainly would never play a second time. Save your money and buy a real game. Heck I would even recommend Vampyr over this and I still only found that to be so-so, but at least it was mostly enjoyable.    … Expand

    If you are a fan of the vampire genre then you are in for a real treat. The game has many many flaws but man did they nail a lot of it. Voice acting was superb and the writing was good. However, since the company went broke before the game really took off it was left in a general state of disrepair and the game plays like a beta.     Эта игра действительно потрясающая .Но настоятельно рекомендую проходить сборку от фанатов, которая без багов и с вырезанным контентом. Прошёл раза два за разные кланы и думаю пройти еще раз.

The atmosphere, story, characters are all so wonderfully written, it's crazy. Yes, the game is dated graphically, but the aesthetic and I cannot stress this enough, music, really drive home the dreary and dark atmosphere of the game. Some you pity, some you find funny, and other unnerve you completely. The quests are also quite nice, they're all unique and enjoyable, ESPECIALLY the Ocean House Hotel. Everything in this game comes together so well, it's incredible. Even if you don't ignore the bugs, this game is still a 10/10.

    Bu tarz oyunlarda genelde diyalog üzerinden gitmek istediğim için oyunu toreador olarak oynadım. Humanity'yi olabildiğince yüksek tuttum, masum kimseyi öldürmedim ve maskeleme ihlalinde bulunmadım. Bazı yerlerde gizli gitsem de epey geliştikten sonra düz dalmaya başladım. Diyalogla birçok şeyi halletseniz de önünde sonunda dövüşmek zorunda kalabiliyorsunuz. Bu da geçtiği dünyanın tekinsizliği nedeniyle gerçekçi olmuş.

    Keşke daha önce oynasaymışım demeyeceğim çünkü kıymetini bilmezdim. Son yıllarda oynadığım rpg oyunları sayesinde bu türe olan alışkanlığım ve ilgim epey arttı. Böyle olmasa mekanikleri, bug'ları ve eski grafikleri nedeniyle atmosferine rağmen daha ilk dakikalarda kapatırdım. Benim için sabır isteyen ama sonucunda yarattığı evreni sonuna kadar hissettiren bir deneyim oldu.

    Oyuna alıştıktan, siyasi atmosferi özümsedikten sonra her köşeye girip görev bulmak istiyorsunuz. Zaten bir oyunu sevmişsem onun her bölgesine girip sömürmek isterim. Bunda da böyle oldu. Sonucunda neredeyse hiçbir görevde beni hayal kırıklığına uğratmadı.

    Müzikleri şahane.

    Bir puanı kısa sürede bitmesinden (skyrim gibi 100 saatlik bir deneyim sunmuyor maalesef), oyun keyfini bozacak kadar çok çökmesinden ve eskimiş mekaniklerinden kırıyorum.    … Expand

    The best vampire RPG game of all time and probably the best RPG of all time. I finished yesterday (December 2021) first time and it holds pretty well. Unofficial Patch Plus is required and this mod was updated in 2021 for 2004 game.

    Although it doesn't stick the landing with the lackluster final area (Chinatown) and final string of missions VTM:B was and still is one of the great rpgs of the 2000s. The combat is not very good and there were many technical problems at release but this game has some of the best dialogue in any rpg and hands down the best atmosphere an rpg has ever achieved.

As flawed as it is in certain regards, primarily bugs and combat, the title stands the test of time through sheer will and immersion. Нереально гибкая система прокачки позволяет подбирать под себя свой уникальный стиль игры, что просто сногсшибательно для игры 2004-го года. Линии Крови это самаяЭто моя самая любимая игра. В каждом диалоге ты можешь выбирать между 4 вариантами ответа, что уже усиливает погружение почти до максимума. Почти каждую миссию в игре ты можешь пройти как минимум двумя разными способами. Нереально гибкая система прокачки позволяет подбирать под себя свой уникальный стиль игры, что просто сногсшибательно для игры 2004-го года. Линии Крови это самая настоящая икона жанра РПГ, и многие современные игры могли бы выйти в разы успешнее, если бы равнялись на неё.

    Сильная сторона игры это её зашкаливающая реиграбельность для такого ограниченного количества локаций и контента. Несколько концовок, напичканный роскошными поворотами сюжет, но самое главное – это просто нереальный отыгрыш. Хочешь быть хамоватым драчуном-хакером? Пожалуйста. Шизофреником с пистолетом, замедляющим время? Запросто. Или может, ты тысячелетний монстр, сошедший с киноплёнки 1922-го года? Этому игровому шедевру и тут найдётся, что тебе предложить.

Yes, there are better games, especially from a technical point of view, but the atmosphere, the story, the characters and generally all the rpg elements still make this game one of the best in its genre.     Since this is an RPG In the beginning we must to choose our class(clan).Classes are very important since it affects the gameplay in many ways.Clan Malkavian for instance have the ability to see the reality at it's full extent.

    The storyline is surprising but in good way.You don't know where the story will lead you which makes the experience even more fascinating!There are of course some obvious hints of what shall happen with certain beings...And the ending(at least mine)was great.Though there are more than a few bad ones,so make your choice wisely.

    Characters.I won't say anything that could affect your impressions or spoil the game.But the atmosphere of distrust towards most of them won't let go of you until the game is over.And it is such a grand and successful attempt to make you feel what it is to be among vampires.Though some of them will surely surprise you.

    Music. "Isolated", "A Smaller God", "Trip the Darkness" are the first that came to mind right away.Soundtrack might be the greatest part of the game that adds to the atmosphere of the dark and sinful City of Angels.

    The game still have many bugs and a few problems,but as I said,the patch makes them dissapear.And it's a game that you will surely want to play at least once more after you finished it.

    Played this game when it released and it will stay forever in my blood. This cult classic will always make you come back to install it again when someone mentions it even after soo many years went by. That's how good the game his.

    It's not aged very well Technically but it's a classic.
    After 16 years now we get a Sequel.

    It is very old game. Graphics were good for that time. Maybe sounds were not atmospheric and story is not best but you can give this game a shot if you want to roleplay a vampire character. I will give marks in its own category.

    A really fun rpg that does vampires right, there are so many interesting vampire classes that gives you alot of options, World is linear but quests and story is great. This is a must buy for everyone. It only costs 5 $ during the steam summer sales.

    Bloodlines is the closest you're going to get to a game making you feel like you're a creature of the night. It never got to be a horror game, but the feeling of creepiness was constant and oppressive - the designers took obvious inspiration from horror movies while adapting their rhythm to that of the World of Darkness lore. All of this would have been useless had Bloodlines fallen prey to the hysterical need of many a modern game to handhold the player and scream the plot in your face; fortunately it didn't do any of that. Another big point in the game's favor is the way different races impact gameplay, and while this aspect isn't perfect, playing as a Malkavian differs a lot from playing as a Ventrue.

    While it does have some flaws - the action-based combat, the rushed final act, and Troika's hallmark lengthy unskippable dungeons full of enemies - what elements it does well, it does very well. The clever writing, memorable characters, and the atmosphere that is second to none easily make this game worth a playthrough. Install the unofficial patch and enjoy the ride. Oh, and Fat Larry is the best NPC ever created in video games.    … Expand

The characters are interesting and the pseudo-open world environment has plenty of interesting parts to it. On the negative side, the game has many bugs; the UI and combat systems are often awkward at best. Additionally, many view the ending as a disappointment (as IVTMB is a solid game although a bit overrated. The game has a nostalgic feel to it and has an interesting story as well. The characters are interesting and the pseudo-open world environment has plenty of interesting parts to it.     I played this game with a lot of mods as the base game was buggy and broken. When it worked the setting, characters and world building are amazing. The politics of the vampire world are really interesting and the story is very engaging until the end where it gets a little to action shooter.

Dall'utilizzo delle armi da fuoco, ad attributi come la forza fisica o l'intelligenza o anche nell'utilizzo dei suoi poteri speciali da vampiro.
    I poteri sono suddivisi in tre categorie di cui due comuni a tutti i clan (l'equivalente delle classi) e il terzo è unico di quel determinato clan che si sceglierà all'inizio del gioco.
    Questo già da una spinta molto grande alla rigiocabilità che, in un RPG, è un aspetto molto importante in mia opinione.

    Ma non solo le differenze nel gioco le vedremo in base al clan di appartenenza, ma anche alla nostra build che ci porterà a poter affrontare le sfide in maniera differente di volta in volta. Nonostante non sia possibile evitare sempre lo scontro diretto è comunque possibile evitarne gran parte concentrandosi sullo sneaking, sull'essere in grado di intimidire o persuadere gli NPC o sul trovare strade alternative grazie al lockpicking o al hacking dei terminali.

    Il gioco è un "Semi open world" in quanto è diviso in 4 aree principale in cui potremo girare liberamente per cercare sidequests o parlare con gli NPC, ma solo una volta sbloccate per la prima volta. Sono poi presenti aree separate dal resto del mondo accessibili solo durante determinate missioni.

    La trama è incredibilmente interessante concentrandosi sia sugli equilibri di potere di Los Angeles sia sul mistero che permea l'aria dall'arrivo in città del protagonista. Nel corso del gioco si incontreranno un sacco di personaggi carismatici e ben caratterizzati o comunque affascinanti. Partendo dai vampiri anarchici e finendo con gang malavitose cinesi. Purtroppo da questo punto di vista il gioco è forse un po' carente in quanto la storyline principale è sempre una sola (nonostante ci siano finali multipli in base a varie scelte prese durante tutto il gioco) e non è possibile decidere, ad esempio, di giocarlo interamente come anarchico, solitario o altro. Per fare un parallelo con il mio RPG preferito è come se in New Vegas i finali multipli rimanessero, ma si fosse costretti a seguire necessariamente la storyline della RNC. Non l'ho apprezzato moltissimo, ma ciò è forse derivato dal suo essere meno open world e più "corto" rispetto a New Vegas.
    Posto che comunque non è un lato totalmente negativo.
    Questo essere più ristretto permette anche una maggiore cura dei livelli e dei dungeon che si affrontano, cosa che manca in altri titoli più estesi.

    Il sistema di combattimento come in molti giochi simili è, ad essere gentili, alquanto mediocre. È possibile combattere a mani nude, con armi bianche o con armi da fuoco. In alcuni casi anche usando le abilità vampiriche a nostro vantaggio, ma non c'è nulla che lo renda realmente interessante. Pugni e armi bianche funzionano all'incirca allo stesso modo: spammando il click sinistro fino ad aver ucciso il proprio nemico. Discorso abbastanza simile con le armi da fuoco che nella migliore delle ipotesi hanno una modalità di fuoco aggiuntiva.
    Le bossfight rimangano fortunamente interessanti perché quasi tutte presentano un twist su cui ragionare per vincere.

    Per tirare le somme:
    VM:B è un gioco che ogni appassionato del genere dovrebbe giocare, nonostante qualche problemuccio sia tecnico che di design di cui però so che una unofficial patch dovrebbe risolvere andando a ripristinare anche missioni e contenuti extra esclusi dal prodotto finale per mancanze di tempo.

    However, I've played through the vanilla game with bugfixes only. Maybe some minor graphics facelift mod, I forgot by now.

    As it is unmodded - the game already has a lot of variety built in: most notably playing as Nosferatu vs. a Venture for example is pretty much like playing the same game after some sort of Total Conversion mod - it's that much different.

    This game was released in 2004 a few months after HL2, and in terms of visual quality it doesn't even try to come close. Except for characters - the characters in VTM are truly AAA production quality for the time. The world detail... it feels like a B-grade movie. But a good one! Some things are clearly low-budget, but they are very honest about it, and it only annoys you for a second - after that you get involved with the story and atmosphere which is truly engaging!

    The sneaking in this game feels... very artificial at times. Like as long as you're crouched, maintain a certain distance (like 10 meters) and move slowly enough - you can creep right in front of an enemy in plain sight when they are seemingly looking right at you. Other times they notice you even if you're absolutely still and completely concealed behind some crate, if they wander close enough. Meh :-|

    And the shooting. Don't get the sniper rifle if you haven't maxed you 10/10 your Firearms skill. The aritificial sway is so gross it will make pretty much unusable. That said, the game maps aren't big enough for you to even need a sniper rifle.

    The world is quite small overall, tbh. Even for a 2004 game. It's basically 4 main outdoor zones, and a dozen or so quest-specific zones. It's a dense urban environment however, and while linear size end-to-end is quite small - most buildings have something interesting in them. But it's not like vanilla Witcher-3 where exploring buildings and looting stuff is almost a chore. Here you won't be collecting tons and tons of crap to dump off to a vendor for 1/5 of their price. There is an amazing amount of unique discoverable content packed within like a few city blocks. Certainly worth exploring.

    The best weapons and gear in the game you either buy for a hefty sum from one of the traders, get from NPCs that you get friendly enough with for doing favors for them. Much like in real life - you don't just lockpick house after house to eventually find some epic machinegun in a drawer in someone's bedroom :-D

    The player's character, referred to as "the fledgling", feels a bit OP most of the time, but there are moments when you get attacked by particularly powerful enemies without much of a warning or clear indication. Like a random boss enemy without the whole drama associated with getting to a boss fight.
    "Yes I'm the fast werewolf you were actually sort of warned about by that other NPC a while back and should be expecting if you have any memory. I can leap 20+ meters and I can kill you in about 2 blows. But I won't introduce myself through some dramatic cutscene. Nor do I look like a proper boss enemy - I'm merely human size. And I apologize for not having a special boss fight arena. I'll just jump-attack you at a seemingly random point within the level when you're just about to get a bit bored with the mercenary gunfodder, and probably kill you in about 3 seconds if you're not prepared."

    Once you patch the bugs, and look past the outright corner-cutting in some areas - the game is a true gem, not repeated since.

    The only downside to Bloodlines is it's lategame, everything else is top notch. It has one of the best characters in RPG (detalization, animation and voice-acting are perfect), interesting quests and engrossing atmosphere.

    Super cool, love the characters, the world and the story. Nice RPG system, dense atmosphere, I highly recommend it. A true classic.

    But if you buy it, you need to know that you have to download a community patch. The patch repairs many bugs and the game runs on newer computers as well.

This is thanks to the writing which is, for lack of words, easily the finest in any game I've played. It's script embraces its source material, an enthralling mix of exposition, criticism, foreshadowing, tragedy, satire, and even philosophy. One moment you're hypnotized in the seductive nightlife, then thrust in palpable unease, giving you food for thought the next, and cherry topped by making you laugh your ass off. It's all conveyed in a way that rewards your curiosity and respects your intelligence.

    The characters that inhabit this universe also benefit from the game's script. From the witty Smiling Jack to the pompous Prince LaCroix to the flirtatious yet playful Jeanette, all of V:TMB's characters have interesting personalities. Everyone has their own little idiosyncrasies and each feel like they've existed long before you arrived. You'll listen to what they have to say not because they might have a reward for use, but because you're so invested in learning about this world and its inhabitants. It's a critical, yet honest in-depth take on vampire society in this strange, fascinating world, all without trying to be superficially mature or cheesy. It helps that the characters are superbly voice acted, elevating the god-tier writing that much more. If any game can make a character in a comical, sociocritical horror story with an abusive childhood lead to a jaw dropping twist, whilst maintaining a tactful undertone of cynicism and playful humor, it's this game.

    The gameplay, despite its rough look, is true to its pen and paper origins. You begin by picking a clan, and each vampire has their own set of skills and bonuses to suit your desired play style, not to mention a noticeable effect in how the world reacts to you. From the charming Toreador to the insane Malkavian, the game gives plenty reason to experience multiple playthroughs. Quests you take on are diverse and each task completed nets you skill points, and these can be spent on both passive and active abilities, all of which have an immediate effect in how you play the game. The level design adds to this by making exploration rewarding but also granting you a range of ways to tackle your objective from persuasion, stealth, and brute force if need be. And speaking of levels, The Ocean House Hotel mission alone is an experience worth the price of admission. Staying true to the universe, the game lets you harness your vampire abilities in a believable, yet gameplay sound fashion. Blood serves as a gauge for your abilities, and balances it out by your need to feed. On the downside, the combat isn't as successful. Against moronic AI, landing blows with melee weapons feels awkward as hell and firearms lack punch.

    Among other aspects, the game definitely looks its age. Based on the early build of the Source engine, characters' facial animation are still better than many games today. Other than the decent textures and pleasing color palette, everything else resembles 2004. Level geometry is basic and characters' faces appear comically stiff. The game's overall presentation is fairly nicked, but is saved by an immersive atmosphere and a sublime soundtrack. The composer incredibly manages to craft a soundtrack that oozes feelings that encapsulates this sinister, intoxicating LA nightlife.

    Despite it's triumphs, V:TMB's is far from perfect. The last fourth of the game is plagued by awful level design that doesn't cater to multiple playstyles, instead forcing you into either combat or light stealth, resulting in frustrating boss fights towards the end. The game is peppered with bugs and glitches for days, and an endgame plot that rushes itself. The finale, while fitting, lacks input from earlier choices due to the rushed development.

    V:TMB had plenty potential to be one of gaming's finest works, but its unfinished state and overall lack of polish makes downloading a fan patch essential. Even with all it gets wrong, V:TMB gets so much right. It's a hidden gem that invites you into its world of darkness, an experience worth the eventual sunrise.    … Expand

    This game is seriously overated. It's a mediocre deus ex clone at best, and a pile of garbage at worst. The interface is one of the worst i've ever seen and the dirtier art style is just a rip off of "blade". The writing is okay.. but the tone is that of a constant B Movie which ruins any immersion for me. Beyond that there's still a plague of glitches and bugs to waddle through.

    I've been playing games since 1990 and this one is still on top of my list. One of the best games ever made. EVER. Go try it, even if it's 2016, or 2987 for that matter. Yes, you in that spaceship orbiting Centauri: play this game and witness the power of the ancients.

    My all time favourite. It had a ton of bugs yes, but the atmosphere, story, voice acting made up for it 100%. Sadly, they don't make games like this these days.

    Starts as the perfect RPG game then you start feeling the rush in the development, with frustrating and boring, repetitive zones in the last missions. The combat system could be better. Still unmatched atmosphere and voice acting, interesting main and side quests. A sequel would blow the *** out of every other modern "rpg", too bad Troika went out of business.

    Literally the best game ever made. The writing is amazing, so is the soundtrack and so were the graphics at the time (kind of). The "dark"/"criminal"/"sexy" atmosphere in this game is just unparalleled. I replayed this game 9x.

When creating a character, you choose from the different races of the Vampire rpg-world. I played as a Ventrue, the leader-race of Vampire-society. The great rpg experience and level-up point system as well as the talk-mode reminds me of Fallout, which is not surprising since Troika made the game, and I sincerely hope this tradition will live on, as this appeals to me. You will have to spend the experience-points carefully though, the game has some hard enemies.

    The game has a very dark and creepy feel to it, so it is not for everyone. You won`t survive here unless you`re cold enough to suck blood of a strangers neck.

    Lacuna Coil and Tiamat have some great sound-tracks here, the other sound tracks are also great.

    The graphics are neat, the environment of the night-towns, the clubs etc. is generally interesting and enjoyable, which is important as you will have to do a bit of walking back, forth and around to solve the quests.

    As for the combat system, II found the sneak and kill-method a bit too easy compared to the man to man fighting. I can`t say I totally agree with the critics saying the combat system is very clunky. It works quite well with me.

    The game has a fascinating background story. Vampires are obviously more powerful than humans, but dependent on them for blood and also in fear of them for humans have sheer numbers on their side. That is why pretense is essential. The pretense that there are no vampires, but also the pretense a vampire needs to uphold towards others in personal relations, for underneath skulks the beast that wants to get out and feed. Just like the vampires have to uphold the masquerade to survive, so they have to control the inner beast to be able to function in society. But ultimately a vampire needs to pretend just to get near its prey.

    The first half of the game is the strongest part. It is the part where you are introduced to vampire 'society', a world of darkness where you prey and are preyed upon. The 'society' is split in various factions that do not always see eye to eye and some are outright hostile, like the Sabbat. Some stress order, compliance and holding up the illusion that there is only humanity -the masquerade- like the Camarilla headed by 'prince' LaCroix who acts as if he is the de facto ruler of the city. Therefore revealing that you are a vampire will eventually get you killed. The Anarchs, headed by Nines Rodriguez, beg to disagree on the ruling part, while the Sabbat is almost the opposite of what the Camarilla stands for, maintaining that vampires are superior to humans and therefore should not skulk in the darkness but step out into the open to claim their position of dominant species.

    The world of darkness is a society filled with intrigue and backstabbing where you feel like you are being played, even by those that pretend to be your friends. Even within a faction there are groups with their own agendas. The Tremere for instance, the magic users among the vampires, support the Camarilla and the Masquerade, but have their own ideas on the best course of action .

    The game is very good in creating this dark atmosphere and without a doubt this is helped by the music in the game, both the background music and the gothic/metal tracks that you can hear at various places and which seem to reference the state of being of a vampire such as Isolated by Chiasm and Smaller God by Darling Violetta. In addition the background story, with its apocalypse-is-nigh theme, matches well with the dark mood of the game.

    There are, however, many faults. Most notably the latter part of the game turns into a dungeon crawler of sorts and the role play part takes a definite backseat. In addition the game never explains how you, being a mere fledgling vampire, can grow so powerful in such a short time as to whip the asses of the most powerful of vampires. But most of all the game violates the basic precept that the world of darkness is a world of illusion several times over, by having you openly fight out prolonged battles in the city instead of finding a more creative solution that would have fitted the mood better. I do not advocate a stealth game here, but at least a more fitting solution could have been found(tricking one faction to off another for instance).
    The latter half therefore feels like it was rushed.

    Despite the weaker second half, the many bugs, and the inherent faults, this game keeps me fascinated. I played it several times as the game has various endings and some quests can be solved in different ways. The clans gives you different abilities allowing for different play styles from stealthy to openly brutal.

    If it had been a more finished product and kept to the theme it would have earned a higher score. Still one of my all time favorite games.    … Expand

    This really should've been a 10, because in its genre, it is possibly one of the best and most immersive vampire games I have ever played. Take note that it is mired by a few bugs which can get annoying. For most RPG fans, this game is pretty nice. For Vampire fans, this is a good game to get the feel of being a vampire and being part of their society. It is truly a wonderful game.

    This is by far the best RPG ever made. It puts you in the world, gives you char building, and gives you the decisions that change the world around you. I have hoped for a sequel to this game for over ten years and have decided maybe its better to end on the epic note they did. Great job to the art and dev teams.

    The game gives you loads of options when it comes to dialogues. You have 3 skills exclusively related to dialogues (seduction, intimidation and persuasion) and additionally in some conversations you can use some vampire magic (aka disciplines). A lot in the game depends from your stats - some people will react to you differently if you belong to certain clan (one of them seems to have the whole dialogue script replaced with his own), some of your choices might affect stuff that will happen later in the game etc. Huge replayability.

    There's also not a single classic RPG quest: bring me 10 of X. Every quest has some sort of story behind it

    Sometimes you will have to fight. It's not Planescape: Torment. Near the end of the game you will be forced to fight almost constantly. You are warned about that by one of the major characters, but a lot of people don't listen and end with no fighting skills. It's not a good idea. Battles can be seen from first or third perspective, depending on your current weapon. They aren't bad, but you don't get any experience for them, so you don't feel any satisfaction from taking part in them.

    Graphics look slightly worse than in Half-Life 2. It's the same engine, but in Bloodlines it actually look as if it was about to crash at any second. To be honest, crashes are rather rare, but minor glitches are almost constant.

    Sound is awesome. Both soundtrack and character voices are incredible.

    Despite flaws regarding glitches, it's one of my favourite games and I've played a lot of them. The atmosphere, sound effects, replayability, nice dialogues, multiple ways of dealing with things on your way all make playing this game very nice experience.

    If you haven't played it yet, it's high time to do it. I have finished it 3 times, I'm in the middle of 4th and I already know that I will play the game for the 5th time as well, because I'm currious how would people react to nosferatu character.    … Expand

    Based on the board game, and sequel to Redemption, you play as a fledgling Vampire in California. The story starts as you create your character. Here you choose your background, bloodline, and gender. Backgrounds change your stats slightly and your powers as a vampire will differ depending on your bloodline. Some bloodlines have some side effects, however.

    The best examples are Malkavians and Nosferatu. Malkavians are insane and schizophrenic. You'll talk like a crazy person, hear voices in your head and see things other people don't see. Nosferatu are cursed in a different way as they can't be seen by humans without violating the masquerade. This does not make it impossible to beat the game as a Nosferatu, because the main quest NPC's will still be approachable.

    The masquerade is a system in the game where if you get 5 bad marks it's game over and you'll be executed by your peers. You earn bad marks by displaying certain powers in public or are seen feeding. You can redeem yourself if you have bad marks by protecting the masquerade. This usually involves killing someone who is speaking too much or who isn't playing it safe like all other good little vampires should.

    Graphics are decent and passable. The game is an older game, so don't expect mind blowing visuals. City hubs are fairly small but there's a lot to find if you set your mind to it. There are some nice facial animations that you won't even see in games nowadays which adds to the immersion. There's also several mods for the game to add atmosphere and even more depth to the classes.

    Gameplay is basic. You shoot things, you smash things. You talk to people, you kill people. There are extra dialog options if you level your seduction, intimidation, or persuassion skills. These skills can be vital to completing some quests perfectly. You can also recieve bonuses from certain NPC's for having them at the required level at certain points in conversation.

    You gain experience from doing quests and you level up to gain strength, wisdom, guile, skill, and become more attractive. If you're sexy enough you get free hookers! Just like IRL! =P

    The beginning of the game will mostly be fetch quests, with a few baddies to either slaughter or let live. It's a game where you can put the fate of nearly everyone around you in your hands. Being good is rewarded with extra perks like your very own slave ghoul girl, or an extra item/money/experience. There's also a decent but easy stealth system that's based on how many points you have in stealth. If you max out stealth, are in the shadows and crouch you're pretty much invisible. There are also assassinations you can do with each weapon while stealthed and behind your victim. My favorite is the baseball bat. :)

    Audio is very good as well. Just make sure you turn Environmental Effects off or there will be a constant echo. Voice actors are all top notch and AAA grade ones that you'll know if you've heard them before.

    There are some very good mods for this game available as well. My favorite being the original Unofficial Patch Plus, but there are other that increase the difficulty of the game and add new quests and bloodlines to choose from. When installing these big mods you need to remember that they aren't compatible with eachother. E.G. Final Nights mod will not work with Camarilla Edition nor with either work with the Unofficial Patch. Both mods have an Older version of the Unofficial patch that come with it, which still fixes a lot of bugs. There's also several mods that are still being produced constantly by fans. Every now and then you should check up and see what new mods are out to keep you coming back for more.

    All in all, if you are in need of a good RPG that's open world with a lot of freedom and are tired of Fallout 3/NV, Skyrim, etc. Then you should definitely check this game out. Especially if it's on sale. Well worth every penny spent.    … Expand

Fortunately, most of the game is preoccupied with dialogue scenes and elements of exploration/investigation rather than combat.

It's slowed in recent years, due to the anticipation of WoDO. When that got cancelled, I hope to see the community pour themselves back into modding this, with some crazy guy who will mod it and host it as an MMO, somewhat like whatI'm just putting my two cents in. I can't really top what has been said, this game is the perfect mix of everything we love. Add in the community content. It's slowed in recent years, due to the anticipation of WoDO. When that got cancelled, I hope to see the community pour themselves back into modding this, with some crazy guy who will mod it and host it as an MMO, somewhat like what SWG did with SWGEmu.

    If you were disappointed with the recent FPS titles and their somewhat lackluster plot and linear storylines, then you will probably find Bloodlines to be a refreshing change, however on the other hand, a few technical and design issues let it down.
