yes. 500h. the longest playtime i saw on steam was 1130h or something.
if you have ANY interest in turn based RPG games you almost are obliged to buy this game

the only flaw this game has is the translation. but its not like you don`t understand anything. its just the fact that a small dev team has these huge amounts of content to translate so for me this is definetly not a reason for me to give it 9/10 instead of 10/10.

I literally complained to the devs that they're underpricing the game on release. 25$ is just too low for the sheer amount of content and value the game provides. There's a fully functioning pet and robot system, and the mastery board system to customize each of your character's strengths is literally one of the BEST in rpg history, and I do NOT say that lightly.

    In short? Yes.

    - It's well priced for the ton of content that you get.

    - it's Korean, so you'd think translations might be a little shoddy like other badly translated games, but this one surprisingly is quite good. It's not perfect, but if it's clear enough to have scenes evoke an emotional response over and over again from their struggles and victories, I'd say, definitely abovepar.

    - For those that think this might look like an X-Com copy, you'd be half right. But there's a level of storytelling here that I've never seen in another similar game; not Jagged Alliance, not X-Com etc. By storytelling, I guess I could be referring to a great deal of backstory to the characters, and surprisingly their enemies. This named mob that you've fought for chapters, gets a backstory thrown at you out of the blue, and it's so tragic that suddenly, the enemy is humanized in a way that makes the battle so bittersweet. These backstories tend to revolve around broken dreams, hope, loss of hope, being betrayed and choosing to keep trying when you've failed. They're awesome, and you can really feel the love from the developers to flesh out these characters properly.

    - The story plays out sometimes like a Korean drama.

    - The gameplay is great. The characters and their builds are not equal, but the guides should help you immensely in making sure you don't struggle too hard. It's wonderful to have the characters not feel like paperdoll rip offs of each other, with such different skills and roles. Combats can get repetitive, but I don't know a game like this that doesn't. Like some MMOs, you can switch up your mastery board and class and play it completely differently, from glass cannon to tank etc. Mix and matching can be really really fun

    - There is a grind, if you want to. Otherwise, don't, and just keep things on the easiest difficulty. I would recommend a little grinding following the power leveling guide, the game is simply more fun if you're stronger

    - Your characters you'd have at this point are 4 males and 5 females. Feels nice to almost have a balance instead of another game with a harem. Also, each character had enough of a backstory to matter, all joining the team for such vastly different reasons.

I hope this helps inform your decision about buying the game, and I suppose you could always get a refund if you don't enjoy it in the first 2 hours, but sadly, the first 2 hours is a really poor place to start judging the game. It changes so much when you have more team members, and finally have enough masteries to create your special classes.

I wish I could elaborate on some scenes that really shocked or gripped me in the story, but i really don't want to spoil it for you. Or well, one small spoiler early on enough, is a scene where a young girl desperately tries to heal a man, over and over and over and fails. Watching her slowly fail to keep him alive with her healing powers and breaking down was painful to watch. It was so well written, and a tragedy that almost certainly would shape her future will to never fail anyone else again. I guess it also resonates because of the Covid-19 where everyday, there are healers out there who are failing to save some lives despite their best efforts. What's ironic is that this scene was clearly written over a year ago, in early access. Strange how the writers captured something so clear that would resonate so strongly today.

I'm also surprised to see an online hub (a special map with vendors), where players can hangout together. It's a little like an MMORPG in that aspect, but I don't know yet what their future plans are for this game.

This is a great effort, I'm gonna hit 100 hours in easily, and I'm not even at the endgame yet, cos I'm enjoying taking my time slowly training up my team, pets and robots.

I've noticed a huge lack of any reviews on Youtube, which is a complete shame. Also, alot of earlier videos in early access really don't show this game in its current incarnation.

Thanks for reading. Feel free to wait for a sale, but at this price, for this story and gameplay, I thoroughly recommend it.

But even more impressive than the combat is the skill system which allows you to tailor each of the game's characters to suit your playstyle. While in the early game you don't have a lot of options once you acquire a lot of skills you can spend hours trying to think about the optimal build or consider which skills would best synergize.
Please note however that the game was developed in Korea and the translation can be rough in a few places although they continue to update it after release. Despite this I have no reservation giving this game a 10 as it is mechanically unparalleled.

It's essentially Final Fantasy Tactics that is a lot more forgiving at the beginning that gets progressively more difficult as it goes on. There's also enough crafting and customization for each character that I would expect it from a full fledged MMO. I'm amazed at the amount of detail in this game, and how stable it runs. X-Com: Chimera crashes almost every other mission, whereas I can play this game for hours at a time without a single issue. The only time the game crashes is when I'm trying to exit the game, but that's not really a problem.

After spending ≈1.136 hours in this game, I suddenly realized that it was time to write a review of XD. Here we go.

    "PLOT"

The plot tells us about the adventures of a young boy named Albus Bernstein.
In the world of this game the police (VHPD) can not cope with the increased crime rate, and in order to somehow correct this situation, the authorities began to use the help of so-called "Troubleshooters" (Troubleshooters), the decisions help the police to save the hostages, apprehend dangerous criminals, etc. However, it is not unselfish, the government pays a certain amount of money for some activities. Albus wants to organize his close-knit team and contribute to this noble and difficult task.

"What? A sword in this situation? Then this guy must be... Absolutely villain."

As the play progresses, Albus will meet both enemies and friends, starting with the first. The first comrade will be Sion Bloodwalker, a descendant of a noble family who is not discouraged and loves to eat deliciously. The second to join the team is a mysterious girl Irene Lion, who considers herself a hero and has a hypertrophied sense of justice. They'll be joined by other interesting people, but it's already a *spoiler*.

    "Dark Side."

Opponents are simple nameless bandits and sectarians, as well as interesting villains and other unusual. of the person whose motivation will be revealed as the story progresses. Also on the side of evil were seen wild animals and combat robots that have remained in formation since the war.

    "Under the hood."

The graphics, though lacking stars from the sky, looks pretty decent and has Korean charm. Location varies from construction sites, warehouses, parks, various streets to forests, fields, mountains and other wildlife. It is worth mentioning that the weather, time of day and terrain influence the gameplay.

The plot is presented as a visual novel, with choices of actions leading to different situations. The story continues with almost every update, something like watching anime ongoing.

The soundtrack deserves a separate praise it is diverse and pleasant. The tracks I liked the most were: "Tristesse", "Prelude For Crisis", "Component", “Reminiscence”.

The gameplay is reminiscent of "XCOM: Enemy Unknown" of 2012 release, adjusted for the fact that there is a lot of attention paid to billbuilding, there are really a lot of builds and you can spend more than one hour in the editor trying to optimize your character for a specific mission.

    "END"

I definitely recommend the game, the only disadvantages are ballistics. But, in my opinion, good ballistics was last seen in 2003, in the game "Silent Storm" and the sequel to "Silent Storm: Sentinels". (It's quite possible that duck syndrome has an effect.)

P.S. I beg your pardon, but English is not my first language. I used an online translator.

Story concentrates on the city-state of Valhalla being subject to gangs violence, the government enacting the Troubleshooter law in response (private security/mercs being judges and enforcers of law alongside cops in exchange for loot rights on cases). You follow Albus starting his PMC and recruiting people to afford bigger cases narrated with an anime-style.

Being korean, the devs struggles with english and translation is still stiff here and there, being improved each patch (usually twice a week).
Overall, this is an amazing game, especially for a 6-devs team first try, priced really low compared to value (20 bucks for 60+ hours, way more with crafting).
It should get all the exposure and support it can get, especially with co-op and pvp on the horizon.

I’ve played a lot of similar games, much of what others have mentioned, but this game takes the cake through just one feature: the mastery board. There are so many types of masteries and sets that the devs really want you to play how you want to. That unrelenting depth? This is why. A skirmisher that blitzes through the map? A counter tank to lockdown areas? A life-stealing berserker? Those are a few examples of just one character. What about a beast that revels in the amount of fire in the field or one that thrives in the fog? I could spend hours just adjusting masteries for each character, pet, and drone.

The game’s charm comes from the characters. Through side quests or visual novel like cutscenes, you get to know them. I think this separates Troubleshooter from other games of the genre. Your team isn’t just mindless units but the people who join and other characters of the Troubleshooter world all have motivations and relations that make you care.

Aside from the two major pros I’ve mentioned, there’s a lot to do: extensive crafting, beast taming, drone making, trade with other players with rng loot, managing jurisdictions of areas you control to get benefits, some missions let you choose your point of entry too.

The flaws I’ve encountered are minimal. Though there are typos and weird phrasing through the english translation, it hasn’t really pulled me back from the game or kept me from enjoying it. Also, the only online features so far are seeing other players on a street/lobby, trading, and the bonus to drop rates when wind wall safety is full. I’m hoping for more features in future such as quests, daily/weekly boards with rewards, etc.

Lastly, I just want to say how much I appreciate the small team of devs’ communication with the players and how invested they are in making this game a success. They take the time to engage with the players and respond to feedback and ideas. I hope they can continue improving on the game as the story progresses into the future.

So TLDR: If you’re looking for a turn-based RPG with rich characters, deep customization features on each unit, great tactical/magical gameplay, awesome OST and art, give Troubleshooter a shot :)

*Copypasting my Steam review but I decided to give the game a 10 here because of the massive amount of content and enjoyment you get from the price. This includes the hard work and passion from the devs. Also, the potential of this game, even just through the masteries alone, seems bright and limitless. As a huge fan of the genre, i hope more people can find this hidden gem.

I am not a fan of anime, neither the art nor the tropes, but the maps in the game are nicely detailed, some of the animations are surprisingly good, and while I may not be a fan of the art style, I can appreciate that it's well done while keeping the typical anime s#it relatively subdued compared to a lot of other games. There are still high school kids doing backflips off of buildings just because they can, and prissy edgelords in fur coats that I think are supposed to come across as dangerous, compelling figures. Right... Thankfully I haven't seen any cat ears. Yet. Fingers crossed.

I grabbed this because tactical games are my jam but I'm unwilling to support Chimera Squad and Gear$ Tactic$ is way overpriced for a spinoff of a series I don't follow. This was the compromise I chose, and the combat is genuinely enjoyable. Unfortunately, the menus in the HQ are needlessly obtuse (again, not helped by machine translation issues), but there seems to be quite a bit of customization and depth in every layer of the game.

Personal taste aside, this is a pretty solid tactical game. If the menus were more intuitive and better translated, I might give it a 6 or 7, and if it continues to get mechanically deeper over time (I read that it's potentially a 100+ hour game), possibly reaching toward an 8 but we'll have to wait and see. The devs do seem to be supporting the game like mad, so that's a big plus.

I am a huge fan of SRPG games like the Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy tactics franchise, and I recommend this game to all fans of the genre. I will detail the mains pros and cons in the text below:

    Pros:
-An amazing quantity of content took me more than 100 hours just to finish the main campaign, and there is also a lot of additional content that I haven't explored yet.
-Diverse and meaningful strategic choices. I think this is one of the best skill system I've seen. Each character is unique and yet anyone can be a tank or a DPS depending on the skills equipped. You can also change the skills between levels with very little cost which gives you liberty to adapt your strategies.
-The gameplay is amazing, there is a lot of important things to consider in battle, SP, vigor, taking cover and the level design is diverse: save civilians/survive enough time/ kill the enemies before something happens, etc.
-There are 5 or 6 difficulties, and you can change them anytime. They change not only the enemies stats but also their quantity and AI. As a SRPG veteran I played on the hardest (Cruel).
-The difficulty curve of the game is perfect. It gets more difficulty at each mission, the last 3 are especially challenging.
    -The art is beautiful.
-The construction of the universe lore is pretty impressive.

    Cons:
-My main complaint about this game is an annoying disconnection between gameplay and story. Example: you defeat an enemy in some mission just to discover he had escaped in some dialogue after the conclusion, without nothing on the gameplay suggesting that. Another example is that I arrested the same character 2 times, how he escaped the first time for me to arrest him again? Lots of characters are recurring enemies and I don't understand how they escaped or survived after I've beaten them so many times.
-Some abilities (just a few) could use some more details on the description, sometimes I haven't fully comprehended how they work.

    This is an indie game
    Very well made
Its been a while I enjoy Turn based Tactical game ,and fun to customize your character. and replay-ability.
But the game is too easy even in cruel + challenge difficulty.
I owned all X-com series + Chimera, Gears Tactic, and recent release of tactics games but I spent more hours in this game .

one of the best tactics game ever made. Small korean developer that made the game early access, and always answered to us.

Excellent story, battle, lovable characters. A must play for fans of the genre.

TROUBLESHOOTER: Abandoned Children is a game created from pure heart and passion, and if its reach exceeds its grasp at points, then this is far more desirable than the opposite. Though details of Dandylion’s next game are scarce, I would find it compelling to explore the world of Valhalla and its characters further. With a tightening up of the UI, and an increase to the narrative and translation budget, it would be an exciting prospect that would build on this game’s strengths and values.

Troubleshooting: Abandoned Children is a big, complex game with an incredible number of settings, crafting and modifications, which can take hundreds of hours to complete. The anime style, atmosphere of Atlus games, deep characters and a strong plot make this project a real gift for fans of the genre.

While it looks like an XCOM knock-off, Troubleshooter is much more RPG than tactics. It has unique characters with different mechanics and literally hundreds of perks that lead to drastically different builds. [Issue#246, p.39]
