Trombone Champ is aggressively fine in the sense that the whole game plays on a single, well-executed joke. This is not a game to be taken seriously, and although I don't see myself playing for much longer, that single joke was memorable.

It would be great with other instruments and a lot more music ...

The best laugh i had in years. This game is the ultimate trombone experience you'll ever have.

I've been using Metacritic for years but never bothered to make an account until I played this game for an hour and saw there were only two user reviews. I dropped $15 on this because I saw a few random Twitter posts from people who seemed to enjoy it despite it looking thoroughly stupid. Turns out that it is thoroughly stupid, but fantastically so. I dropped $15 on this because I saw a few random Twitter posts from people who seemed to enjoy it despite it looking thoroughly stupid. Turns out that it is thoroughly stupid, but fantastically so. I'm playing on the steam deck and by default can use the gyro, trackpad, joystick, or touchscreen to control, and they all do a good job of replicating the unintuitive nature of attempting to play an actual trombone, as well as the feeling of trying to play any instrument that seems to be fighting against making the sound you want it to. It's about the most elaborate and lovingly made **** post of a game I've ever seen. My wife even enjoyed playing it, and she hates games. 10/10, love it. Expand

Trombone Champ may present itself as a novelty title — a joke not meant to be taken seriously — but those who give it a chance will find a surprising amount of polish and sophistication. I never could have predicted that Trombone Champ would become my favorite rhythm/music game of 2022, and if you’re even remotely interested in the title, I’m confident it will be yours too.

Though slightly held back by its visual presentation and potentially polarising humour, Trombone Champ is a respectable rhythm game with enjoyable gameplay that fans of the genre are bound to enjoy.

The world's first trombone game is a viral hit, and rightfully so. Trombone Champ is maddening, maddening and maddening fun. The worse you play, the more fun the game becomes. Clearly this humdinger simulator doesn't take itself or the instrument too seriously, but beyond all that hilarity, lurks a very solid and challenging music game.
