I like tower defense games, and I have for a long time. The Bloons Tower Defense series, the Kingdom Rush series, and the Sanctum games are all quite fun in my opinion. Toy Soldiers is also a good series which features fixed tower placements and first-person control of the firing platforms. It is a solid idea (this is a three-quel after all) and it mostly plays well.

That said, most of the fun will come from playing single-player options (campaign and a somewhat-random "weekly war" campaign) with the various armies (whose turrets behave differently). Due to its troubled history and the lack of split-screen multiplayer (consoles can do this PC can't), if you wish to play multiplayer games you will have a hard search--I was only able to find one person who turned out to be difficult to play with. This is a shame, because Sanctum showed how fun multiplayer TD games can be.

It also means that the devs may never release another entry in this series and that this entry should be on sale frequently. It is worth playing for the single player, but don't hope for a great multiplayer experience from this title.

NOTE: lots of people complained about the 30fps cap on pc, but this was patched up to 60fps within weeks of release. Make sure you do your homework, reviewers.

Even tough Toy Soldier War Chest is a strategy game, action mechanics often prevail and can leave dissatisfaction feelings to all tower defense fans. Moreover we pointed out an evident lack of innovation and some questionable design choices.

An original tower defense, able to think out of the box and kick the player off balance.

A very predictable Tower Defense videogame with subtle traditional shooter touches. Still fun to play, but not as deep as it should be.
