Sep 6, 2013Launching Second Shortcoming of the Year. Retarded UI, poor optimization, no SLI. Yes, I was talking about CoH2. Applies to this title also. Support better game developers, there are a few.

Sep 6, 2013I WAS a big fan of the total war series (played every game since the first one), but unfortunately although I'm not an expert, I have to admit this game is really bad. AI is no AI at all, multiplayer simply doesn't work, coop campaign neither. CA has released this game far too early. I would have waited another year to get a good game, but THIS game is just UNACCEPTABLE. Goodbye CA.
-
Sep 6, 2013Poorly optimized,. The AI is STILL worse than the AI the TW mod community put out. Gameplay is dumbed down and without nuance.
Creative assembly, stop outsourcing your god damned games to the modders, or at least pay them for fixing your games. -

Sep 6, 2013I can rant and rave for days about how terrible and disappointing this game was, but i'd rather sum it up in one sentence. I made a meta critic account for the first time in my life just to rate this game a ZERO.
-
Sep 7, 2013Yeah not very good. Missing the best part of online from shogun 2 and its very buggy/boring. The battles also last little over 5 minutes due to the AI doing nothing but rushing in a mob or sitting there waiting to die.

Sep 7, 2013They actually killed the series for its simplifications for youngsters and casual players. Want to play real Total War? Play Shogun 2, Medieval 2, Rome 1.
This game is a huge fail. Capture points and lack of family tree are worst decisions possible. UI is very dull. I feel disapointed. -

-
Sep 7, 2013Ok let's rate this game At first about game graphics AWFUL Game looks like 6 year old (even more). Absolutely dumb AI and ugly small menus. It's not fun there's no gameplay Even On maximum graphics still the same sh*t Don't waste your money There are too much good games to play. Yeah there is music but they can't hold you longer
-
Sep 7, 2013Disappointing stupid AI, horrible UI, disgusting and confusing unit cards, no optimalazion, lots of bugs this game is surely unfinished, propably also cut a lot to get money on new DLCs. It's a shame that CA published something like this and also kind of an insult.
Paid way too much to be a beta tester now. -

-
Sep 7, 2013This is the most horrible game i have ever played in my life. How can they sell this garbage for 60 dlls?
Horrible AI
Horrible UI
Horrible Gameplay
Horrible Graphics
Horrible Optimization
Horrible Support
Horrible Presentation. -
Sep 7, 2013
-
Sep 7, 2013worst game in the Total War series. nothing alive and warm remains of the first part. wacky icons, no clips, unrealistic morality, bad management, and more more
-
Sep 7, 2013Wow, looking at the critics reviews you would think they were playing a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT version of Rome, meaning that there version has had a years worth of updates ahead of the present time, Why do you with us CA SEGA?, Why do I have a BETA/DEMO version of Rome 2, I PAID for the FINAL Release, i'd like to see my moneys worth delivered when I pay for it, NOT after a years time
-
Sep 7, 2013
-
Sep 7, 2013If you have to pay 60 bucks which is more than average for new titles, and as it turns out you got the ability to take the occupation of a beta tester...not that big of a deal.
-
Sep 7, 2013They released it without even testing it properly, assuming no one would notice the uncomplete features, mechanics and even graphics engine which is poorly optimized. The reason I give this a 0 is so that they would stop living on pre-orders and on big expectations which are created by ads, but don't deliver.

-
Sep 7, 2013Horrible don't bother to buy it, bad optimisation bad graphics and ridiculous UI, i could run shogun 2 on max settings at high fps, this doesn't work on all low
-
Sep 7, 2013A sad day for all TW fans. CA had rough releases before, but this tops it all. Their questionable design decisions threaten the very core that was TW.
-
Sep 7, 2013
-
Sep 7, 2013Total War fan since shogun. Loved Rome and Medieval2, was TWs prime time. Been downhill since ,and this launch is just a fiasco. Soooo much content missing I just feel so let down and missed chances with this game. Been wanting it for months
-
Sep 7, 2013
-
Sep 10, 2013This is not really a playable game at release. It is a bug ridden, mess which Creative Assembly (the developers) expect you to pay a premium price to be a beta tester. Shame on you CA, SEGA, and Steam for not allowing refunds for people who were scammed into buying this, by CA's fake game-play footage and marketing hype
-
Sep 7, 2013Terrible game. Its like they went back to Empire for their battles. no excitement to winning battles as the AI is terrible. The UI is horrible. Even with a good system, the graphics are bad. Its just not a good game in general.
-
Sep 7, 2013
-
Sep 7, 2013Claps to the devs you just made a abomination thats called Rome 2
now you can go walk hand in hand with EA and such
hope you like the money you got from it
and thanks for letting down True Total War Fans -
Sep 7, 2013I can't believe a company with Creative Assembly's history and pedigree and resources could sell me a $60 game so technically sloppy, so unfocused, so uninspired. Rome I was a brilliant game. Way to celebrate that feat by publishing this junk.
-
Sep 7, 2013Horrible UI
Horrible unit cards
Horrible fpses
Horrible world map
I dont know about AI because i quit after doing tutorial and starting campaign.
Stay away from this piece of garbage -
Sep 7, 2013
-
Sep 7, 2013This is NOT Total War game. Don't even try it, don't even buy it. Even if you bought it by accident, don't even pop the disc in. The problem isn't bugs or anything, just doesnt feel like other TW games.
-
Sep 7, 2013
-
Sep 7, 2013Its rushed, crappy game of 2013. They abused the title and did a lot marketing brainwash to make some quick money and us off with crappy game. If they polished it and released maybe next year, it would have been a decent game, but as of now its just rubbish. Totally not 2013 standards.
-
Sep 7, 2013I can honestly say there has never been another game that has disappointed me more. It is almost like Creative Assembly tried to make a game that could be simple enough to be ported to consoles. Because quite frankly this is really, really pitiful. The reasons have been covered enough, don't buy it.
-
Sep 7, 2013Game is a absolute, utter, disappointment. The gameplay it self is horrible, dumbed down, and hand holding. The optimization is terrible, not only graphics look worse than 3 year old Shogun 2, but the game is buggy as hell with constant CTDs.
DONT BUY THIS GAME -

Sep 9, 2013As a long time fan of the series, I want to write a quality review, but I can't. This game is BROKEN. It makes me sick to see critics giving this game 100. That is simply dishonest and insulting to the gaming community. Releasing a game in this condition is simply inexcusable.

Sep 8, 2013Very bad.
with these mods as Europa Barbarorum and Roma Surrectum releasing game similar to Rome-2 should just be ashamed of.
0 points for Historicism
0 points for the strategy
0 points for tactics
and 11 points for advertising, but the advertising we do not play. -
Sep 8, 2013As a big fan of the franchise I've waited years for this game. And it's lousy. It's not like a Total War game, it's like a bad port of a cheap console RTS game. Hyper speed battles where armies merge into huge blobs, awful AI, dumb capture the flag garbage, troops with magical powers. Before you get to all the other design flaws and terrible optimisation. Arcade Total War. Avoid like the plague.
-
Sep 8, 2013Yet another game series has been killed off by the likes of casualization in the industry. They removed so many great features. My biggest problem were the visuals. How does Rome 1, a pretty old game, look so much better than Rome 2? The new cartoony artstyle and modernistic ugly UI doesn't fit at all, the textures and models are horrible. 55 euros just waisted for crappy beta.
-
Sep 8, 2013Major dissapointment on release. Huge problems and game breaking bugs. I even unable to finish tutorial campaign because game crashes.
Stay Away until they fix the issues and release it much cheaper in a few months! dont fall for the hype and pay the extra cash to play it now. -
Sep 8, 2013Disaster and embarrassment. The game created by experienced and well known developers looks like beta of low-budget console port. Tons of disadvantages:
- UI is really awful
- graphics is disappointing, shogun 2 looked much better
- AI is bugged,
- lack of family tree and online Avatar campaign.
The weakest TotalWar game in the history of CA, not worth buying. -
Sep 8, 2013this game is much poorer compared to the previous (Shogun 2). The multiplayer is ridiculous, has no avatar as in Shogun 2 and has no customization and upgrade units. THIS GAME WAS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!
-
Sep 8, 2013Poor UI, AI, several features were left out of the game that were in previous Total war games. Music and artwork is lacking. Poor job by CA on this one. Hoping for a expansion to fix the plethora of problems.
-
Sep 8, 2013You can tell that the people who rated this game weren't biased!
Did they even play the game? Or did they just watch the trailer?
I give it a ZERO( 0 because I felt that I was lied to by these people.
It is a good for nothing piece of garbage, just like Skyrim. But
in this case the majority are not in a trance, yelling ROMA! -

Sep 8, 2013The swag level in this game is too damn low. I mean, just look at those soldiers, what the Where is the swag? I honestly don't know what the developers were thinking not implementing the appropriate amount of swag to cater for SwagLords like myself.

Sep 9, 2013Game is simply unfinished and therefore totally unplayable.
This is a worst Total War release ever.
Disappointed to the point that I feel cheated and want to get a refund. -
Sep 9, 2013Doesn't work. Games that cannot be played upon launch are nonfunctioning products, and receive a zero: not buying the game and not being able to play it is actually more fun than buying the game and not being able to play it.
-
Sep 9, 2013
-
Sep 9, 2013Absolute Junk. Terrible.optimization, many bags. They didn't learn anything from Empire release. So to summarize: Graphics: bad and cartoony, UI: god awful, Gameplay: dumbed down comparing with first Rome.
AVOID THIS GAME -
Sep 9, 2013
-
Sep 9, 2013Fix this crap... bad AI, no spy cut scenes, all streamlined, no family tree... i can't believe they just took my money, this is nothing like the game that was advertised, after shogun 2 how do they do this to us... i want my money back, il never buy another Total War game...
-
Sep 9, 2013Broken, incomplete. Never been this disappointed with a TW game before. I hope they can fix everything but i highly doubt it. Stay away from this one for now.
-
Sep 10, 2013
-
Sep 10, 2013Unfinished game with many core features not working. Terrible performance even on high end PCs with normal details settings. Playing game is frustrating due to many technical problems(stuttering campaign map, bad AI, tons of bugs).
Buy this game only when it is heavily patched and on discount one-two year after the release date. -
Sep 10, 2013AI is for me an absolute showstopper.
There is NO challenge for me in Mid/Lategame. AI is not able to handle the game.
Rome 2 official Reviewers should take more time testing a game. They should test not just the early steps because when the game go on the problems start poping up all over. -
Sep 10, 2013
-
Sep 10, 2013As a Total War veteran i urge those who haven't buy this game to wait, maybe a month, or 6 months, or a year, or better until they announce release of a new Total War game, so then you can buy Rome 2 on sale, otherwise you will be just wasting your money.
Maybe next Total War game will be much, much, much better, provided that Creative Assembly survives this disaster.
Shameful display CA -
Sep 10, 2013I'm writing this to send a warning: Don't buy it at full price! If you really want to, wait for a few months or a year, when it's on sales including expansions. It's not worth 60 bucks, that's for sure. It could become somewhat average if good expansions and patches comes out, but even then I think it's still going to be the worst total war title.
-
Oct 8, 2013bad bad bad worst total war game ever CA must see that AI is stupid as same graphic as shogun2 but very bad optimized where is the 40% budget gone bad bad bad bad bad whole game is unpolished and it looks like even more bad compared with alpah testing vid that they showed to us

Sep 10, 2013If a game is unplayable, it's not even a game. It's a pile of ****.
>Terrible UI that takes up 50% of my screen
>THE FLAG!!! REMOVE IT
>Broken naval battles
>Navies now worthless
>Terrible senate system
>No family tree
>Terrible skill upgrade system
>A.I. worse than rome 1 total war.
0/10. Entire franchise ruined. Good damn job. -
Sep 10, 2013Is this beta or some kind of joke? Or maybe this game is targeted for 7yo console players?
I am a huge fan of Total War since Shogun, but Rome 2 is a different game, much worse.
We want strategy! We want tactics! We want well expanded economy, well expanded diplomacy,
we want realistic battlefield.
And what we get? Bugged, casual, arcade game for lots of money.
DON'T BUY IT! -
Sep 10, 2013
-
Sep 10, 2013What the hell... How could you sell a game like this and feel good about it? This game isn't ready to play at all. If you want to pay to play a pre Alpha... go ahead.
-
Sep 15, 2013I paid 60$ for a early acces game??? currently the game is on beta stage,so many bugs,i regret buying this.
at least CA should reward us for testing her awful game. -
Sep 10, 2013This game is really horrible. I played every total war games except few DLCs.
But this one is absolutely the worst of all. I even had to buy Shogun 2: Fall of the Samurai one of few which I have not played and it is much better in every way. ROME 2 is horrible even in the tactical side of game boring, stupid politic, not rewarding. Shame -

Sep 11, 2013In its current state this game is a pile of junk, don't waste your money unless you are lucky enough to have a system that can run it (apparently only 2% are affected by the performance issues-ya right CA) that aside it's taken content out like no guard button, no family trees.
What the hell, a lot of waiting and a lot of hype for a pile of crap -
Sep 11, 2013Unplayable trash at launch, even after the first patch it suffers from allot of bugs and really bad frame-rate issues. The final product does not compare to the footage we where given in a "Alpha state" which was MUCH better.
I own a monster machine with x2 ATI radeon 6970 and Im running this on below 30 FPS on average -

Awards & Rankings
-
Nov 18, 2013The game is far less polished than Shogun 2, and a few more patches will help, but Rome II is still a flawed game that is underwhelming when compared to previous titles in the franchise.
-
Nov 6, 2013And here’s the rub: every addition, every sub-system, every mechanic is subservient to War. War is what Total War is really about. Everything else not directly related to conflict comes across as ancillary. Rome II is a game for warmongers, on both the campaign map and, obviously, on the battlefield. When peace is happening, nothing is happening. When war is happening, Rome comes alive.
-
PC PowerPlayOct 28, 2013If you will play literally anything featuring Total War and Rome in the same title and don't value your time, this is for you. [Nov 2013, p.80]
