    Hannibal at the Gates is a conservative expansion, but nevertheless a good one. The second punic war is one hell of a conflict to portray in a strategy game, and the new Rome II DLC does that reasonably well.

    Total War: Rome 2 : Hannibal at the Gates Second Punic war is an excellent theme for a DLC. The conflict is a reasonable small-scaled but still Carthage acts as a strong counterforce against Rome. [May 2014]

    I don't need more 'historical' battles and dozens of new units. What I want from Rome 2 are solid multiplayer, good, easy-to-understand balance and smart AI that uses battering rams and ballistics to storm castles. Is this too much to ask for?

This campaign provides a small scenario that simulates the Punic Wars. You have the two major powers of Rome and Carthage that are the focus of the campaign and a few other minor factions that you can play as as well. It isn't as linear (other than Rome and Carthage being locked in a never ending war) as CiG was and that's good. However I find it sadly over priced for a campaign that brings absolutely nothing new to the table except a map.… Full Review »
