I think this game is amazing. It is a dungeon crawler at the very finest. I finished the demo and will be buying it soon. There are three distinct classes and a plethora of items and loot to discover. The varying difficulty levels add a nice touch.

Who cares if it is a Diablo clone? Yes, it is a bit simple and there are a few features that are annoyingly missing - such as being able to move my camera around, or a stupidly small backpack so I can't carry much around (where is that mule, anyhow?) - but the game is just plain fun. Nice eye candy, very nice music, acceptable voice acting. Well worth the money.

Very good game. As a Diablo fan, I was highly skeptical that this game could compare to the time tested series that I love. I waited until Steam had a $10 off special for it. You and your chosen pet, a cat or a dog, are tasked with basically clearing massive dungeons Diablo style to do...something or other. As you might have guessed, the story isn't fantastic in the slightest, but that wasn't the reason I was playing. THE PROS: Pleasant, rotating atmosphere for the dungeons. You get a real sense of depth. Lots of loot to sort through. Normally they're items you won't be interested in, but occasionally you'll find something great. In fact, you get a lot of loot, so much that your inventory will fill up fast, which brings up your pets usefulness. Your pet proves a useful ally, especially when buffed with fish. But where your pet really shines is the automatic selling of items, which is way more useful than it sounds as your main inventory will fill up fast. This is a major addition to the Diablo game style. Plenty of options for your character in terms of magic and weapon setup. Epic and satisfying battles. Some quite difficult bosses Levels can get quite large Low price tag! CONS: No Multiplayer! This was almost a deal breaker for me and I couldn't believe they stated there would be none for this version of the game. Its low price tag convinced me to buy it anyways. Lacking story. Using the pet to sell items can take quite a while when you get pretty deep in the dungeon (2 minutes or so). Dungeons can start looking repetitive after a while. Not as many spells or customizations as I would of liked, but it keeps the game simpler. All in all, it's a very enjoyable Diablo style RPG. The lack of multiplayer will be a turn off to many players, but for its price, its a great game to tide you over until Diablo 3. Expand

You just do the levels one after another. The story is quite weak. You go into this dungeon... for some reason... and then you learn that there's an evil power, and you really should do something about that ancient evil shouldn't you! The battles get very chaotic later on and it can be hard sometimes to differentiate friend from foe. It's hard to enjoy the nice artwork from the zoomed-out view and with the enemies dying so fast. Excellent Diablo-type action RPG. Innovative pet system is entertaining as well as useful - no more running to town to dump/sell stuff every 15 minutes. A great ARPG. Take the basic functionallity, simplify the most complicated formulas (hit chance, for example) and put a great cartoon style and a great OST... Boom. Torchlight. Very addictive and simple... I think it's the key for ARPGs... and Runic Games gave it to me for 15 euros. Pros: Simple and fun, addictive. Support for modding. Con: No multiplayer, no great-plot.

This game, above all, is a Diablo clone. This of course doesn't mean it's bad. On the contrary, it takes the basic formula and greatly improves on it. Although the voice acting is flat in places and the skill trees are slightly repetitive, fans of the genre should be able to enjoy the best Diablo clone since Titan Quest.

Torchlight is an excellent action rpg! The combat is smooth, fulfilling, and addicting. When you're not in combat, you spend most of your time determining the best equipment for your player, which in turn, means to more fun in combat. Did I mention that it's fun killing thousands of creatures in this game? Fun, addicting, beautiful, and can't wait for the MMO.

See, when I play any RPG, I like to actually create a character, rather than choose a preset and just train him. But once I started playing, I started really getting into it, specifically as the Alchemist, as the spells were an absolute blast to use. I didn't really play as the other two classes though, but I had no real desire to. Yes, the gameplay does boil down to left click on enemies, right click to use an assigned spell/ability, and the number keys to use other assigned spells/ abilities or potions. Simple? Yes. Fun? Yes. Easy? Not as much as you'd think. I've died plenty of times because I was hit by a horde of enemies all at once. The story is pretty straightforward, evil guy causing problems, you must kill said evil guy to restore peace. Over-used? A bit. But the dungeon designs are creative, expansive, and a tad bit confusing, which adds to the fun. The loot drops are fun, too, and the mini-boss enemies are a nice touch. All in all, an entertaining game. I just wish it had online multiplayer. Expand

A game I really enjoyed, It has a lot of problems when it was release, but with the Mod community you can add it at less 10 hours more. I really think that this was a beta test for Torchlight 2( of course Runic are just 30 and they are a small company with no money when they did TL1) any way it was super fun

Very good game, well designed skill-trees. You get what you pay :) If you want a game to spend hours with fun. Play this game and support Runic Games.

This is the first dungeon crawler I have ever played. Definitely am in love with it. I think this game has made me into a dungeon crawler fanatic, in fact! It adheres to my OCD play style where I always have to check something and make sure I did it right. And it rewards me for it.

Highly addictive, straightforward game (just like Diablo).
    Cannot write a long review...
Have to go kill some more monsters...
    Just a dozen more...
    I promise...

A great pick up and play game for casual gamers or if you want get mods to go more hardcore. Fun and entertaining for a few hours but with no real storyline, can get boring after awhile. Gameplay is hack and slash, using mouse and hotkeys for spells. You get a nice pet for a companion and there are three characters to choose from and three class trees for each.

I love Titan Quest and I've been desperate to find a newer game like it that isn't Diablo 3. This game is fantastic in vanilla play. Add mods and the game can become whatever you want. I could put hundreds of hours into this game.

Torchlight is simple, fresh and fun RPG. Many of its elements resemble earlier Diable games. Storytelling is a bit lacking and the game can become repetitive towards the end. If you're looking simple and fun game to play for weekend or two, this is worth buying.

TORCHLIGHT on my scale gets a 7.5/10 this game is very nice the map systeam the low graphics allow lesser player to experience a game like diablo. for this review will have some comparisons with diablo but no game should be just like diablo.
The storage system in this game amazes me the fact it doesnt have expansion but, it teaches you how to manage to give to another character.

The stash and shared stash is something that also raised this game to my liking.
So say you beat the game hurah! and u want to play on hard mode and not lose all your weapons there u go the shared stash will allow you to redo the game but keep ur kick butt weapons.
Hud- well the hud i do not completely understand everytime i try to put an abillity inside it doesnt all i hv is a health potion an a pre-set abillity i dont even want! that plays a factor in the losing .5%.
the fighting in this game is a little off perfect there is a bug that will make your character stand still and not move and you wont be able to drink a health potion either truly something the ruins the immersfulness of the game.
lastly the pet, the pet u get is something that seperates the game from other you start off with this pet and hes with you all the time when ur in a sticking sitiuation your dog/cat/etc.. will come and save your butt. if you equip your pet right with the right spells it will help A-LOT.
this game is something i play on the side but i will complete it i very much reccomend buying this game and once i get torchlight 2 i will review that thanks id you read this all.

I've started playing this wonderful adventure as a hobby on my laptop, but ended as AAA, later I've noticed that it came from the Diablo 2 developers; it is obvious that Blizzard couldn't buy talent in Diablo 3 because these guys were the real brain behind Diablo 1 and 2. This game feels as a "light Diablo clone" but it came from the original developers so it is not a clone, is just what they do.

Игра получилась неплохой, но не такой атмосферной, как Diablo 2.

Игра отличная, сюжет не понял вообще, но он здесь далеко не самое главное, порадовало то, что можно бесконечно прокачиваться и становиться всё лучше.

I'm rating games I played in the past. I think anyone would think this game is an 8 or a 9 but for me it was a 10 experience-wise. There are times in your life where maybe you don't have any friends and there is not much to do or opportunity to do them and games can be a reprieve or an escape, but I remember while playing this game, saying to myself, "why do I need friends"?

It was that addictive and fun and did everything right. To this day, I think it is my favourite series in the ARPG genre, enjoying it way more than Path of Exile that I recently played. Its potential shortcomings, story and lack of multiplayer, did not bother me as ARPG storylines are to be ignored and I never play online anyway.
It took elements of previous games and improved upon them: spell-casting, town-returning, good-selling pet; immediate item comparison
    Good times!

Хороший диаблоид, который не смотря на ограниченный бюджет играется очень и очень бодро. Играть за местного мага - одно удовольствие.

Fun action role-playing hack and slash dungeon crawler with nice colourful art style that is refreshing after so many Diablo-like games.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fun, fast paced hack and slash game.

Torchlight is a clone of the game FATE from 2005 but still manages to create its own atmosphere and feeling. In general, it is like any other Diablo based game. Kill enemies, collect loot, level up, get some mad skills and repeat.

It has a story, but it is not that interesting. Just another villain that needs a good slaying and who is waiting for you at the very depths of the game world in the story mode.

What makes Torchlight fun is the effortless way it is played. Use portals if you need to go to town or let your pet take the journey while you go on with your adventure, the combat system is good and when you hit an enemy you can hear the slash or bash you made with your sword. Also, the easy way of selling, buying, hot keys for potions and skills etc. makes it really comfortable.

Torchlight has simple cartoon style graphics and nice music to get you in the mood of playing. The sound effects are good and makes this game somewhat stand out from FATE and other hack and slash games.

The game can be very repetitive. Not because it is a hack and slash game, which goes for all of them, but because you progress in “floors” rather then levels or maps. The themes change after every ten floors, but the layout is mostly the same for all of them. After floor sixty, you reflect on your life and the fun is starting to decrease. On the other hand, when going for the achievements the game has to offer, it keeps you (or me at least) motivated to complete more and more floors.

The main issue I had with the game was, because of its repetitiveness, to find a good purpose to go on. There are achievements like I mentioned, but other than that, when you kill the boss in the story, it is just endless floors of the same stuff over and over again.

But overall, for the price, this is a fun game with hours of content.

With phenomenal music and great art direction, combined with an addictive combat system, it's hard to step away from the keyboard and mouse after the first floor.
  2. Runic hasn't dumbed down the experience, they've removed the fluff and distilled it down to the truly fun parts. Add in a few innovations and what you've got is Torchlight; a game that raises the expectations for dungeon-crawling action RPGs by being not just fine-tuned but affordable as well.
  3. The core of the game is its combat and character progression, and both of those are outstanding. Torchlight might not be breaking any new ground, but the soul of Diablo hasn't been so ably captured in years. You won't find much that approaches Torchlight's worth at its $20 price point.
