The similarities with Limbo are definitely there, with less visual poetry and more variety. Toby is a good puzzle-platform, with a good challenge level and solid gameplay. Play it, it deserves your attention, even if it’s not the most original thing in the world.

The game with beautiful, although not very original visuals offers some interesting ideas, but also a number of design errors. It is pleasant to play the game and it pleases with several successful parts, but in the bottom line it does not match the quality of its predecessors.

Good: very impressive graphics + puzzles easy but funny + varied landscapes
Bad: the most you go forward the more lot of try and error but checkpoints are near from where you die + character moves too slow for my taste

A fun little platformer. What it lacks in story it makes up for in its art style. Some simple but enjoyable puzzles give the game more life.

The graphics, music and sounds together make an immersive atmosphere, the game mechanics are OK as Toby has learnt a lot from its role model. The problem is that intuitiveness of puzzles was rather replaced by trial and error style and the level design relies more on finding secret places than on logical thinking. Good system of checkpoints and non-problematic control save the game from being frustrating. You will be driven by curiosity what comes next just not so much as when playing Limbo.

    Pros:
    - Graphics, music and sounds
    - Good systems of checkpoints
    - Challenging but not frustrating
    - Easy to learn

    Cons:
    - Trial and error approach
    - Focus on finding secrets instead of logical thinking
    - Not very intuitive puzzles sometimes

I am giving this atmospheric platformer Thumbs Up and VideoGaming Father's Index 7 out of 10.

    Toby: The Secret Mine
    Pretty but cheap
Toby the secret mine is a limbo styled platformer where you try to rescue all of your friends while dodging hard to see obstacles along your way…
throwing switches, pulling chests.. and dying over and over and over…
Toby the secret mine is probably one of the most frustrating 2d platforming games ive ever played…
there are 21 levels total here that took me around 2 and half hours total to complete…
These levels are beautiful and can sometimes be just as fun as they are frustrating…
the forground for the most part is a bunch of black..
this makes certain traps hard to see…
and one section in particular I actually had to change my screen settings just to see the level as it was a bunch of blinding whites…
because of this you will die a lot…
and the game feels a bit cheap at times…
This is sort of a game about dying and then remembering where that switch was so you don’t die again…
and for the most part checkpoints are pretty forgiving here…
but the most frustrating moments of this game.. especially the final boss fight… where youre given a choice for one of 2 endings…
I feel like the checkpoint system can be garbage…
the final level was a horrible end cap to this decently enjoyable game where I felt like luck got involved trying to not get hit with a bomb…
The rest of the game I didn’t mind the dying and retrying as much.. paying attention to signs for door puzzles, and rescuing my friends out of cages…
aside from the final level and a few cheap moments here and there..
Toby The Secret mine is a decently enjoyable yet frustrating 2d platformer…
I give Tobe The Secret Mine
    a 5.5/10
