Other than the sound, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 does everything needed to help give the franchise a breath of fresh air. It’s nice to see that EA Sports can do more than just throw in one new play or change one part of a game.
-
The best golf game currently on the PC and for once in EA Sports' history, not simply because of a lack of competition. [PC Zone]
-
Computer Games MagazineEA Sports apparently loved last year's game so much they they've repackaged it. [Jan 2006, p.59]
-
Tiger 06 is a hardcore character-building RPG wrapped up in a sports game, letting you craft your own story of spectacular success or crushing failure. If a nongolfer like me can love it, pretty much anyone can.
-
I'm surprised and saddened that this was outdone by a two-year-old game. EA's trying some new things here, but they don't quite work yet.
-
Despite the knocks against rivals mode and the fact that the new controls are mostly borrowed from what many consider to be a more simple golf franchise, Tiger Woods 06 is still a solid game. Where rivals fails, the more realistic PGA Tour mode is still fun, as is skills 18, a set of target-based minigames.
-
With plenty of control options, new courses, and compelling play both off- and online, Tiger 06 challenges you to build your golf game up from the ground floor.
-
Novice players will find this one to be forgiving and experienced players should find enough tweaking to be found to make this enjoyable and not too easy.
-
Visuals are just as refined and gorgeous as previous versions of the series, with new and subtle differences added to give the game increased flare and a more appealing look to the eye.
-
Tiger 06 offers up one of the best golfing experiences, but it continues to skimp in some areas of presentation and options, seemingly in favor for this yearly update.
-
PC FormatEvolution doesn't happen, according to this particular history book. [Dec 2005, p.98]
-
PC GamerLots of nice tweaking and some sweet new courses. Otherwise, par for the course. [Dec 2005, p.70]
-
What remains to be seen is whether EA can reintroduce a suitable element of difficulty to knock the series back in the right direction without forcing an unintentional bogie.
-
This year's Tiger feels more complex and sophisticated than ever. Putting is more challenging (e.g., total bitch)... Yet, the game is still accessible to armchair golfers, thanks to those welcome arcade-y touches.
