It's the only game where I would reload saves to chose other dialog branches. Usually I'm just trying to get through them. CDProjeckt came out of nowhere and beat the biggest devs in the industry at their own game. Expand

CDPR did a great job with this game, and with the expansions. The importance of a believable and immersive story-line and accompanying cinematics cannot be underestimated. The Witcher series will be sorely missed.

    - finally stand alone quest with knight tournament! Even though it's kinda easy, I'm really enjoyed this quest
    - as usual 10/10 main plot line with LOTS of adventures/noble intrigues/hunts/boss fights
    - seems like 80% of Toussent monsters in this one are completely new and were made for this DLC exclusively
    - new 5 witcher armor sets to craft (also, they added a painting option which is neat, but why only for witcher sets?..)
    - Skellige deck. Oh god, this is just a fresh breath of air for gwent maniacs like me. Thanks for the person who designed this one. Definitely my second favorite deck after NR from now on. It's not as powerful as NR since Skellige deck doesn't have any spies in it, but if you manage to collect them all and get heroic cards it'll become a decent deck. Winning with this to Nilfs or NR is pretty satisfying once you get used to it! (for real, guys, you should release stand alone gwent game)
    - sweet manor to upgrade with lot of details, like usual + your own butler with some gwent opponent option
    - 3 bandit forts to clean up (Butcher from Blaviken returns!)

I'm not a big fan of Witcher 1-2, but 3 is just made me one. And B&W is a best way to finish a game,

After a year of disappointment for AAA games that was 2014, things weren't looking any better in 2015 until the masterful Witcher 3 Wild Hunt was released to massive critical acclaim. A few months after that the first true Expansion Pack Hearts of Stone was released, impressing everyone with it's 10-hours packed content with interesting characters and great story.

And now the long awaited final journey for Geralt of Rivia, Blood and Wine has come, and straight off the bat this is one of the best Expansion Packs ever made. You are free to explore Toussaint, a land roughly the same size as Velen or Novigrad, packed with so much content not even full games such as Far Cry 3 or Assassin's Creed 3 possessed, and they were full 60$ games, this one costs merely 20$, yet not only does deliver on the price it asked one might argue it deserved even more.

Toussaint is a beautiful land that seems plucked straight out of a fairy tail, literarily. The map is a joy to explore, and the capital of Beauclair is absolutely stunning. The land is packed with question marks leading to side-quests, treasures, things players have grown accostomed to in the Witcher game. Just as in the Main Game, Blood and Wine features some of the best side-quests in the game with lots of references to pop cultures, fairy tails and even other famous video games. They've even included a few throwbacks to the original Witcher, which for someone who played it at the time of its release, was a joy to behold. The combat is as satisfying as always, with new enemies proving to be a challenge and requiring a fair amount of tactic to defeat. The boss fights are well executed, if a bit easy.

The Main Story is well crafted and interesting. Different from Hearts of Stone, yet still retaining it's supernatural theme along with a deep look into the flawd relationships between human beings, this story centers around vampires, and that is all you need to know. The characters are memorable and believeble.

I could go on and on about Blood and Wine. The DLC will take you roughly 20 hours to finish, that is if you use fast travel often. But if you do as I did and used it very rarely, spending most of the time admiring the beautiful scenery, you are looking at 30+ hours of content that fail to ever make you feel dull.

All in all, I've played a lot of DLCs and Expansion Packs, and so many of them stand out, but I can safely say that Blood and Wine offically takes the cake for me as the best Expansions I've ever played.

We've reached the final journey for Geralt of Rivia, the White Wolf, but it was a journey worth waiting for, and one worth remembering for a long, long time.

    Hats off to CDProjekt Red.

The Witcher has always been a slightly overrated series that has solid gameplay and a decent story with its fair share of issues, such as its weak combat system and a somewhat discombobulated storyline. With the Blood and Wine DLC however, everything has changed. This masterfully created piece of art has taken The Witcher to a transcendent level reached by only a few titles in the past decade. It's the very best combination of magnificent moods, spectacular stories, fantastic voice acting, and a grandiose soundtrack all set in a wondrous new locale. In the modern day of freemium games, CDPR has created a gem of a DLC that the world may never see its equal for a very long time.

Don't let the DLC part fool you, this game can, and should stand plenty on its own.

With that out of the way, enough praise has been heaped upon this expansion. It's length, rich detail, great voice acting, interesting quests should be the gold standard for what DLC should be in a game. It is well worth the price unlike other games which sell DLC which is composed of nothing more than more crafting opportunities and/or cosmetic enhancements (looking at your Fallout 4).

The negative reviews of this DLC are from people who clearly didn't like the base game. Disregard their trolling vitriol. If you like the base game, you must play Blood and Wine.

GameSpot editorializes that the new characters can't match "Yennefer’s lusty spark or The Bloody Baron’s brutal sorrow." I just completely disagree with that analysis. On the contrary, I found the new characters very deep, and I think that their relationship with Geralt grew and changed over the course of the story, often based on my choices during the story. I don't want to add spoilers here, but I just want to rebut the notion that somehow the Blood and Wine add-on doesn't add new and interesting people into Geralt's life.

I believe that Blood and Wine is a 9+ add-on, and is well worth the expense.

It's really, really good. But it also has to deal with some of the Witcher's shortcomings more often than the main game. The controls are just not as precise or responsive as in other games of this genre. That said, Blood and Wine is still worth playing and you will not get an expansion that offers so much bang for the buck anywhere.

Blood and Wine introduces the area of Toussaint
Toussaint is gorgeous, and full of color…
And there is tons to be done here…
This DLC could be its own game, because not only is there a 10 hour campaign here, there are 20 more hours of side quests, a new Gwent deck to collect, new treasures to find, new areas to liberate, more witcher contracts, as well as diagrams for grand mastered versions of your armor…
This dlc also introduces the ability to dye your armor, and you’re given your own land to harvest crops for alchemy and creating dyes.
There is also a new mutation skill tree which opens up new perks as well as gives you 4 new slots from the perks before, as well as the level cap increased to 100.
And there is plenty to do to chase this level cap as just like the base game, every side mission if fleshed out as well as the main campaign missions...
They’ll have you entering a tournament, only to find out a dark secret, running through the city to retrieve a stolen pair of balls… cleaning up sabotaged vineyards, just to name a few…
And there are of course nests to destroy, caves to explore, and newly added enemy bases to take control of, all featuring a boss fight…
Surprisingly the weakest aspect of this dlc is the campaign itself..
It tells the story of a vampire terrorizing these lands... murdering people…
So you’ve been called by the duchess to hunt this vampire down and kill him…
So this turns into a batman type story..
Which is sort of ironic considering...batman...vampire…
It’s all about solving the mystery, finding out why this vampire is targeting these people…
The strongest point of this dlc is later on in the story when you go into a book of fairytales..
You’ll meet classic characters like the big bad wolf, the munchkins from the wizard of Oz… goldilocks and the 3 bears…
All having a bit of a sick twist to them…
This section alone was worth the journey this expansion will take you on.
While I found the main story of Blood and Wine to be fairly weak, This expansion is crawling with engaging content, mysteries to be solved, and booties to be seen.
I give the Witcher 3: Blood and Wine
    an 8.5/10

Boy, was I wrong! The story quickly ramps up after the first few opening quests. Blood and Wine contains some of the best storytelling, and some of the most atmospheric and remarkable locations in the game thus far! It also contains some interesting characters awesome plot twists. Toussaint is vibrant and colorful, but the game takes you to other locations along the main storyline as well! Simply amazing.

The gameplay, combat and such are pretty much identical to the main game, so no surprises there. Nothing we haven't seen before. However, I still thoroughly enjoyed playing through the main and side quests, just because the dialogue and storytelling is as good as ever! More than once I had to laugh out loud at some of the dialogue and quirky characters.

The story has 3 branching endings, which means the choices you make really matter, in unexpected ways. There is also a new love interest for Geralt to pursue, similar to Heats of Stone.

If you liked Witcher 3 or Hearts of Stone, just get it! You won't be disappointed. Seems like Project CD Red saved some of the best for last, and it is a fitting ending to undoubtedly the best game of last year.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all, this DLC is more than just an additional gameplay. It's a story, with its characters, its monsters and its territory. "Blood and Wine" came out just a year after the game did, that's why only the main plot quests take 20 hours to complete. But to feel yourself really in the game, in Toussent, the extra missions are obligatory to play. After some days of adventures in Toussent you won't want to come back to grey and gloomy Wyzima. Of course Toussent is based on r.l. medieval France or might be Italy, where the knights' fights and wine feasts are the main activity of every young man.
Despite the fact that its metascore is only 92/100, I would give it 96 or 97, and that's the firm 10/10.

Definitely the best RPG game of the year "The Witcher 3" kinda spoiled the last impression with B&W. Vampires in this game contradict the canon and good sense. However, CDR did a great job creating Witcher atmosphere and I really enjoyed the last few hours with Geralt. So, it's 710, but +1 as I'm huge fan of the series. Srry.

    Dear Witcher 3 Haters…

You. Yes, you! The one screaming, "This is a movie, not a game!" and "They downgraded the graphics!" and other slurs I dare not mention. Tread lightly. You are one. We are hundreds, thousands. Millions. You aren't just IN the minority; you ARE the minority. I don't feel awkward or anxious playing Witcher 3 around others, and your words don't affect me.

Many others, however, are coming out of their shells for the first time in their lives. This is the first time many are enjoying the beautiful world that has been created for us - and it IS beautiful. Incredibly so. DON'T ruin this for them.

We Witcher 3 fans may have our differences, but we will not hesitate to come to the aid of our fellow witchers, especially against someone who so virulently slurs that which has brought us all together.
Don't take this the wrong way. I don't hate you. I don't fear you.

    I pity you.

I'm sorry that you feel this way towards us. I'm sorry that Witcher 3 is such a bane to your existence. And I'm sorry that you are missing out on such a wonderful experience. Mostly, though, I'm sorry that you feel the need to go around and publicly chastise and berate others. I'm sorry that, to ensure your own validity, you need to make others feel invalid. I'm sorry that your self-worth is so infinitesimally miniscule that you have to make others feel less-than-human, at least in your own denatured mind, just to feel whole. I am truly sorry that day-in and day-out you have to put up with your worthless, meaningless, Shakespearean tragedy of a life.
I ask you politely to cease your unnecessary cries for attention, and instead invite you to join our ranks. Uninstall Call of Duty, start up Witcher 3, and breathe in the splendour and the amazement of the realistic graphics, and then, maybe, just maybe, you'll see what you've been so hopelessly searching for this whole time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hands down one of the best DLC I've ever bought: storywise it's marvellous, minus some little nasty bug on some sidequests (so totally neglectible).
It does what it promises, i.e. gives a graceful ending to the witcher franchise (at least I hope for Geralt's Story - I do really hope CDProject doesn't decide to milk it EA-Style and starts churning out a new witcher sequel every a few years) - just to make a comparison, remember the last RPG ending that felt really satisfactory, a final conclusion of your journey:
-Skyrim? Does it have a ending? 'Cause the main campaign is one of the most unappealing ever
-Mass Effect 3? Ha, they had to publish an immediate dlc to fix it so much it sucked
-DA:Inquisition? A little better with it last dlc, but in perspective the whole thing looks like a glorified preamble to DA:4 in Tevinter

This games wraps up the dlc ending and the main game one if( like I did) you start the dlc after completing the main campaign, and you see geralt with his [Spoiler ahead] beloved (Triss, Yennefer, or Cirilla) "retire" to an splendid vineyard in the countryside.

the only ending the compares to this one for the sense of "really" ended, is the movie about Ezio's dead (AC:Embers); and - just sayn', there ezio died.

To me, Olgierd was deeper character than Dettlaff, CDPR had a opportinity in Blood and Wine to create far better character than Olgierd but they didn't give us a possibility to learn more about Dettlaff. A character's base was good but they ended only on this. What's more the whole plot and intrigue wasn't so engaging. But don't get me wrong, this expansion has truly good story, but simpy I have to compare both DLC. Fortunately, the new expansion in contrast to Hearts of Stone offers us great side quests.

Other things B&W does better as this is a huge expansion so there is lots things to do. Really good side quests (as always), some changes in mechanics, beautiful zone, characters and soundtrack, holy crap this accordion.

My conclusion is that if you give a game extremely great graphics and pay attention to alot of details, then you can sell a game as game of the year and people will buy it even if it's BORING and DULL.

Yes, it's incredibly beautiful to look at and there's ALOT of attention to detail which is a masterpiece of achievement on it's own.... but it's still a boring game. Maybe if they had implemented some form of 1st person view, I would be more immersed or enjoyed it personally... but it felt like I was controlling a RTS character that was clunky and honestly the controls were extremely frustrating for a game of this magnitude to skip something so basic.

overhyped and overrated. The game can be summed up as: fetch quest to cuscene with boring dialogue to fetch quest to another cutscene with boring dialogue. But yay we have 1000 different possibilities of quests with different boring dialogues and cutscenes so we have a masterpiece......yeah right.

Apparently, CD Project was so impressed by the reception the Blood Baron quest received that decided to make both of their expansion, into simillar soap operas about love, betrayal and family disputes. But where the story of the previous expansion, Hearts of Stone, had interesting characters and a horror movie feeling to it, the story of Blood and Wine does not have any of that. Maybe fans of the books will enjoy it more since most of the characters where from the books ll and they drop reffrerences to them in every cutscene, but I could't bring myself to give a fraction of a crap about any of these characters or the story. It's nice that CD Project decided to finish some of Sapkowski's plots from the books but it would have been nicer if they brought back some of the characters us game fans enjoyed like Saskia or Iorveth.

Fortunatelly, the game adds enough content to make up for the **** writing. The land of Toussaint is pretty large and is probably the best looking location from the Witcher 3. There are some nice side quests as well like one where you get to speak to your horse or one where you need to return the testicles of a statue. It's too bad most of them still rely on the Witcher Senses mechanic instead of giving the player subtle clues as how to solve them, but hey, it's 2016, you can't expect an RPG developer to put a lot of thought in their quests, right?

On the gameplay side, there is a lot more content, like more weapons and armor(of which most look just as the ones from the main game), as well as some new witcher gear, including GrandMaster level equipment. The most important addition is the Mutations skill tree which offers some new powerful abillities at a great cost in skill points and mutagens. I didn't find this too interesting however since most of these abilities offer passive bonuses just like the ones from the base game, but then again I didn't insvest in a lot of them since I inished the main story(which is a lot shorter than the 20 hours that the developers promised) and I wasn't too interested to keep playing after.

Overall, for an expansion that was so hyped and so praised by fanboys, this was very dissapointing. Not terrible, but not good either. If CD project decides to make another Witcher game I hope that they abndon this daytime soap opera writting and return to their more intriguing stories.

Marvelous new world, colourful (a nice departure from the rather drab colours of velen and Novigrad), painstakingly crafted with an amazing care for the details. Passionating, compelling story with deep and interesting characters, and full of meaningful choices to be made.

    Cons
Very few new enemies. Most new monsters are just reskins of those already present in the base game. Boss fight too don't add anything new etiher (apart from the wicked witch wich I really enjoyed). Uncompromisingly and frustratingly difficult at the highest difficulty setting (I had to lower the difficulty for the first time after having finished the base game and Hearts of Iron at death march), most monsters and bosses follow the same old and repetitive mechanics, they are just faster, stronger and harder to hit, which has the side effect of rendering utterly useless most of the skills aquired for your carefully thought-out character build; you will end up never using signs or alchemy since the only strategy that seems to work is dodging, rolling and landing the occasional hit from behind.
Too many, long and boring fetch quests. Useless and boring treasure hunts, because when you finally manage to have the guy make you the coveted grandmaster sets, you will most probably be at a much higher level than the one necessary to unlock the armor and most quests will be a lower level too.
Too many cutscenes you can't skip and with too few checkpoints for saving! This already annoyed me in the base game, and here it's even worse. I can understand not being able to save, but why shouldn't I even pause or exit the game during those dialogue cutscenes!

Graphics aren't that great, story is boring, and combat is horrendous. Combat is really where the game falls down, more than anything. It's clunky, all about rolling everywhere, and doesn't really have any strategy involved.

A way too complicated 'game' for my taste.....Too many dialogues, too many quests, uninteresting characters, monotonous gameplay and dialogue, fantastic graphics and satisfying music
....and all you do is running like an idiot from stable to stable, killing monsters and earning XP....just for the sake of it. The way I see it, this game series is like the Justin Bieber phenomenon in gaming

It's just dungeons and dragons, with a few t i t t i e s thrown in. The world is pretty to look at, but boring, nothing really draws you in to see whats round the next corner, unless looking at trees excites you, because there's plenty of trees. I'm hoping for much better things with Cyberpunk....

A masterpiece. Wonderful and colorful landscapes, seems set in Tuscany (Italy). Even this expansion has some game-play add-ons and interesting quests. .

Video game made art. This might be the most impressive and enjoyable experience I had playing any video game ever. Elevates video games to new levels.

Looking at any part of the landscape is like looking at a mastercrafted piece of art. The characters and the story are delicious. You feel like your answers will get one or another character killed so you are mindful about what you answer

Not only is Blood and Wine one of the best expansions ever introduced to gaming, but also a spectacular and highly emotional ending to the excellent journey of Geralt of Rivia.

Excellent narrative and gorgeous landscapes of Toussaint hook you into this colossal expansion. This one manages to intrigue as well as the first with its twists and amazing attention to detail.
Overall, i preferred first expansion just a bit more (from a narrative perspective), this one though, is a more massive fleshed out new world. Worth it

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Really enjoyed the movie like qualities in this game, the rich visuals and soundtracks and the excellent characters, plots and dialogues. What could be better than watching Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings, than actually taking part in your own adventure?

What did annoy me the most was the relationship elements of the plot, I got stitched up after sleeping with both Yennefer and Triss and then Ciri died and the game blamed it on my poor choices and made me feel bad Its a game, with dragons and magic so why can't I wander around telling a few hot girls that I love them and end up with a threesome, and be protective and lame with my daughter and still get a happy ending?

The game is called Witcher 3 not Perfect Boyfriend or Perfect Father 3, someone needs to tell the woman that wrote those plot choices into the game that guys want to have an enjoyable experience not be punished for their perceived attitudes towards women when they are messing around in a fantasy game.

The other thing that annoyed me is all the time-wasting, running around, collecting hordes of complete worthless junk, the story makes the game and the rest is really just boring filler, they need to make the stuff outside of the awesome main story-line more arcade like and more streamlined.

When you say there is 90 hours of playtime, the moments that stand out are maybe a tenth of that with a few epic ones and the rest just filler, so not sure a game that wastes this much time is a good thing.

The story bits were awesome, I would love to see a more fast paced game with fast arcade style fight scenes in between plots and dialogue choices that allow to the player to create their own fantasies rather than be tested and rewarded or punished against the code of the author of the script.

    By the way, Gwent rules.

hands down the best DLC ever made.. the story is amazingly written and told, the new characters are just top quality (one of them is the best character in all of The Witcher franchise imo),

Toussaint is jaw dropping with an entirely new culture and accents, the Soundtrack is perfect and sets the mood, there are new witcher mutation that greatly enhance the gameplay. *overall the DLC

    Pros:
    + Greatly written story
    + New Characters
+ actions still matter (can affect story)
    + Soundtrack is amazing
+ New enemies, Skills, Witcher Mutations
    + Quests are Varied
+ Side Content is still just as good as the Main story
+ Theres alot of content (and not filler mind you)
    + Voice acting

Great Expansion Pack! Indeed a must play on its own. Though there is not much development concerning Geralt as a character, it leaves plenty of room for the other characters to get their own lights. A very mature plot and very intriguing as one progresses more and more, but side quests can get a little tiring from time to time, something that would not be a problem if you consider that as a way to get back to the main quests and get as less distractions as possible. Not to say that the side quests are boring or anything, in fact it is really impressive how the developers can still pull out fresh and interesting side quests, but there are some side quests that will make you want to finish them already and move on to some other more interesting things to do.
Talking about the new map, it is really glorious, different, marvelous, absorbing and quite well contrasted from all the other maps already placed in the game; one can feel the owe when discovering these new lands once again. Even the people can differ a lot from the folk from the north and Nifgaard. The people of Toussaint are even more polite!
The new system of character development, involving the creation of new powerful mutagens, is satisfactorily justified with a really interesting side quest to get them activated.
Overall, a very pleasing story to enjoy. Characters with their own motivations and way of thinking that make up for a great story that wil put a nice "goodbye for now" to this incredible universe. With, yet again, another really pleasing and nostalgic surprise at the very end of the main story... well of course it's CD Projekt Red so it might depend on your previous decisions from point 0 of the game.

So many memories... When I've been reading the Witcher books, I loved the fairy-tale-styled duchy of Toussaint with its chevaliers and culture. I loved vampire Regis who became one of Geralt's closest friends (and who died heroically in the end of the book saga) and I loved Mr. Sapkowski's non-stereotypical approach to vampire mythology. And this DLC has all of these things and adds a lot more.

Story, characters, soundtrack, new gameplay mechanics, atmosphere, jokes... Simply great. And when "Dusk of a Northern Kingdom" started playing during one cutscene I almost died from nostalgia.

Blood and Wine is well-crafted DLC and and excellent send-off to Geralt.

We have to be thankful, that there are still good developers for AAA titles. I'd even say this needs AAA+ status it's just too far above the rest.

The Witcher 3: Blood & Wine is an exceptional expansion that reignites a sense of wonder even for players who have put in hundreds of hours so far. The breadth and variety of all that’s included stands stronger than many full-priced sequels. As a twenty-dollar add-on, it’s absolutely worthwhile.
