GOTY contender for 2016. Sad that an expansion is better than almost all games released this year, but this is modern gaming...

Great expansion with great story and contend, for the best game of the generation. It is a no brainer purchase if you own the Witcher 3. The only downside are the hit point sponge enemies they added, supposedly to increase the difficulty. Bad desicion, but

The worst thing one could say about Blood and Wine is that the story-arch is not as strong as some others in the main game. That's complaining on the highest of levels though, if you enjoyed The Witcher 3, you'll enjoy this just as much - I completely adore the main game and was pleasantly surprised at the amount and quality of additional adventure I was getting with this.

It's the only game where I would reload saves to chose other dialog branches. Usually I'm just trying to get through them. CDProjeckt came out of nowhere and beat the biggest devs in the industry at their own game. Expand

One of the things I appreciate most is that they take the time to tell a story even after the ending "boss" battle. Almost no game does that. The sense of humor, the adult content, the story, the fighting, was all in the right proportion. I don't want to give anything away but the Fable part of this game was very creative and fun. I loved this DLC and I can not wait until they come out with another one in the future. Expand

Blood and Wine features an expansive new region called Touissaint, a vibrant french inspired piece of land full of political intrigue, humor, and defined culture. You will also be pitched against new monsters, in a fully fetched campaign helping out the local Duchess.

The story and side missions are characteristically as good as the original Witcher 3 game, and perhaps better in some areas. The characters you encounter are well written and engagement, and much of the activities to be had are quite fun. This expansion also features a full length soundtrack, which further immerses you into the escapist heaven of the Witcher series.

All-in-all, this expansion deserves an honest 10/10. In all my years of PC gaming, this expansion has reached a milestone, and set a bar so high that I doubt any other developer can reach in a long time.

I loved getting a vineyard for the witcher to lay his head down and store his stuff. I would score the main game 9 and this dlc 10. A fantastic dlc at a very high standard. Toussaint is so charming, that I give 10/10 just for that. Graphics, climate, story, characters, Corvo Bianco and new mutations are just great. A perfect example of how to make a perfect expansion for a perfect price. If you liked Wild Hunt and/or Hearths of Stone you will love Blood and Wine. Buy, play and enjoy.

With that out of the way, enough praise has been heaped upon this expansion. It's length, rich detail, great voice acting, interesting quests should be the gold standard for what DLC should be in a game. It is well worth the price unlike other games which sell DLC which is composed of nothing more than more crafting opportunities and/or cosmetic enhancements (looking at your Fallout 4).

The negative reviews of this DLC are from people who clearly didn't like the base game. Disregard their trolling vitriol. If you like the base game, you must play Blood and Wine.

Least Favorite Thing: What's with the yellow filter? Eww.

There are new monsters to defeat which require varying tactics. That was fun. The addition of "Mutating" abilities and grandmaster armor are more than just cosmetic changes and token collectables. They provide a change to the base gameplay experience. There are a few bandit bases with swarms of higher level enemies where these boosts are vital on higher difficulties. The region itself is beautiful, and despite swarming with dangerous creatures is some how more laid back than the base game. You get a house. Your decorating this house is limited to choosing a few paintings and deciding what swords/armor go where. Still more satisfying than Skyrm's home building DLC. More fitting to this universe as well. Some of the quests in this expansion blew me away. After the main questline diverges the first quest on either side is amazing (going into the fantasy book or meeting the elder vampire). Overall I found it to be a fitting end to the witcher 3 experience. Which given how high the bar was set before, is really spectacular. Expand

-The story is better than in original game. It is not too long like the original, it's just right. There is more action and less world exploring. Feels like The Witcher 2 story. Even Regis feels like bro Roche.
-New location is amazing. I know that Witcher series is about swamps and grim dark, but the summer location is the best thing, that hapened to the Witcher. It's not too big and empty like Velen or Skellige, it's interesting to explore.
-Difficulty is still to easy for me. I played the original game and first DLC on max difficulty and beat it almost without deaths. It's a little bit more hard than original game because of new enemies, but still too easy.
So, Blood and Wine is one of the best DLC's in the history of videogames, it's worth it's money. I am really upset that B&W is last DLC, I would buy one more. Thank you, CDPR! Love you!

GameSpot editorializes that the new characters can't match "Yennefer’s lusty spark or The Bloody Baron’s brutal sorrow." I just completely disagree with that analysis. On the contrary, I found the new characters very deep, and I think that their relationship with Geralt grew and changed over the course of the story, often based on my choices during the story. I don't want to add spoilers here, but I just want to rebut the notion that somehow the Blood and Wine add-on doesn't add new and interesting people into Geralt's life.

I believe that Blood and Wine is a 9+ add-on, and is well worth the expense.

The only gripe I have is with one specific talent which I'm not sure was present in vanilla TW3. It makes your dodges mitigate 100% damage (even if you're hit). It made my play through on highest difficulty a stroll. The final boss is memorable, although phase 3 is too easy.

The main quest is not as good as in The Hearts of Stone but is still really good. I've finished it in 20 hours but I haven't touched the side quests nor have I visited the whole of Toussaint yet. I don't think there will ever be an experience quite as fulfilling as The Witcher 3. This game is just THAT good. This is a benchmark for what a videogame needs to be in its essence.

    - many references to Geralt origins as a witcher and his first adventures.
    - finally stand alone quest with knight tournament! Even though it's kinda easy, I'm really enjoyed this quest
    - as usual 10/10 main plot line with LOTS of adventures/noble intrigues/hunts/boss fights
    - seems like 80% of Toussent monsters in this one are completely new and were made for this DLC exclusively
    - new 5 witcher armor sets to craft (also, they added a painting option which is neat, but why only for witcher sets?..)
    - Skellige deck. Oh god, this is just a fresh breath of air for gwent maniacs like me. Thanks for the person who designed this one. Definitely my second favorite deck after NR from now on. It's not as powerful as NR since Skellige deck doesn't have any spies in it, but if you manage to collect them all and get heroic cards it'll become a decent deck. Winning with this to Nilfs or NR is pretty satisfying once you get used to it! (for real, guys, you should release stand alone gwent game)
    - sweet manor to upgrade with lot of details, like usual + your own butler with some gwent opponent option
    - 3 bandit forts to clean up (Butcher from Blaviken returns!)

I'm not a big fan of Witcher 1-2, but 3 is just made me one. And B&W is a best way to finish a game,

For me, Blood and Wine was very emotional. Partly because this is Geralt's last adventure, but mainly because the expansion is simply beautiful. Toussaint is gorgeous, the soundtrack is even better than in the original game and the ending is perfect. On top of that, we get the new mutation system, our own vineyard and much more! This is the goodbye Geralt deserves. Needless to say, if you liked The Witcher 3, you HAVE to buy this.

To the expansion. It's even faster paced than the main game and you practically have quest and enemies everywhere on the map. You could even argue it's a bit crowded. ;)

The main story is great and fun like always. Highlights are Geralt's interaction with an old friend from the book.

    You. Yes, you!
The one screaming, "This is a movie, not a game!" and "They downgraded the graphics!" and other slurs I dare not mention.

    Tread lightly.

You are one. We are hundreds, thousands. Millions. You aren't just IN the minority; you ARE the minority.

I don't feel awkward or anxious playing Witcher 3 around others, and your words don't affect me. Many others, however, are coming out of their shells for the first time in their lives. This is the first time many are enjoying the beautiful world that has been created for us - and it IS beautiful. Incredibly so. DON'T ruin this for them.

We Witcher 3 fans may have our differences, but we will not hesitate to come to the aid of our fellow witchers, especially against someone who so virulently slurs that which has brought us all together.
Don't take this the wrong way. I don't hate you. I don't fear you.

    I pity you.

I'm sorry that you feel this way towards us. I'm sorry that Witcher 3 is such a bane to your existence. And I'm sorry that you are missing out on such a wonderful experience. Mostly, though, I'm sorry that you feel the need to go around and publicly chastise and berate others. I'm sorry that, to ensure your own validity, you need to make others feel invalid. I'm sorry that your self-worth is so infinitesimally miniscule that you have to make others feel less-than-human, at least in your own denatured mind, just to feel whole. I am truly sorry that day-in and day-out you have to put up with your worthless, meaningless, Shakespearean tragedy of a life.
I ask you politely to cease your unnecessary cries for attention, and instead invite you to join our ranks. Uninstall Call of Duty, start up Witcher 3, and breathe in the splendour and the amazement of the realistic graphics, and then, maybe, just maybe, you'll see what you've been so hopelessly searching for this whole time.

After a year of disappointment for AAA games that was 2014, things weren't looking any better in 2015 until the masterful Witcher 3 Wild Hunt was released to massive critical acclaim. A few months after that the first true Expansion Pack Hearts of Stone was released, impressing everyone with it's 10-hours packed content with interesting characters and great story.

And now the long awaited final journey for Geralt of Rivia, Blood and Wine has come, and straight off the bat this is one of the best Expansion Packs ever made. You are free to explore Toussaint, a land roughly the same size as Velen or Novigrad, packed with so much content not even full games such as Far Cry 3 or Assassin's Creed 3 possessed, and they were full 60$ games, this one costs merely 20$, yet not only does deliver on the price it asked one might argue it deserved even more.

Toussaint is a beautiful land that seems plucked straight out of a fairy tail, literarily. The map is a joy to explore, and the capital of Beauclair is absolutely stunning. The land is packed with question marks leading to side-quests, treasures, things players have grown accostomed to in the Witcher game. Just as in the Main Game, Blood and Wine features some of the best side-quests in the game with lots of references to pop cultures, fairy tails and even other famous video games. They've even included a few throwbacks to the original Witcher, which for someone who played it at the time of its release, was a joy to behold. The combat is as satisfying as always, with new enemies proving to be a challenge and requiring a fair amount of tactic to defeat. The boss fights are well executed, if a bit easy.

The Main Story is well crafted and interesting. Different from Hearts of Stone, yet still retaining it's supernatural theme along with a deep look into the flawd relationships between human beings, this story centers around vampires, and that is all you need to know. The characters are memorable and believeble.

I could go on and on about Blood and Wine. The DLC will take you roughly 20 hours to finish, that is if you use fast travel often. But if you do as I did and used it very rarely, spending most of the time admiring the beautiful scenery, you are looking at 30+ hours of content that fail to ever make you feel dull.

All in all, I've played a lot of DLCs and Expansion Packs, and so many of them stand out, but I can safely say that Blood and Wine offically takes the cake for me as the best Expansions I've ever played.

We've reached the final journey for Geralt of Rivia, the White Wolf, but it was a journey worth waiting for, and one worth remembering for a long, long time.

    Hats off to CDProjekt Red.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hands down one of the best DLC I've ever bought: storywise it's marvellous, minus some little nasty bug on some sidequests (so totally neglectible).
It does what it promises, i.e. gives a graceful ending to the witcher franchise (at least I hope for Geralt's Story - I do really hope CDProject doesn't decide to milk it EA-Style and starts churning out a new witcher sequel every a few years) - just to make a comparison, remember the last RPG ending that felt really satisfactory, a final conclusion of your journey:
-Skyrim? Does it have a ending? 'Cause the main campaign is one of the most unappealing ever
-Mass Effect 3? Ha, they had to publish an immediate dlc to fix it so much it sucked
-DA:Inquisition? A little better with it last dlc, but in perspective the whole thing looks like a glorified preamble to DA:4 in Tevinter

This games wraps up the dlc ending and the main game one if( like I did) you start the dlc after completing the main campaign, and you see geralt with his [Spoiler ahead] beloved (Triss, Yennefer, or Cirilla) "retire" to an splendid vineyard in the countryside.

the only ending the compares to this one for the sense of "really" ended, is the movie about Ezio's dead (AC:Embers); and - just sayn', there ezio died.

I really enjoyed the expansion and even though I am done with the main story I am going back to gather the best armor sets/ weapons and complete every single quest so I don't miss anything. There are multiple different endings so significant replay value in that sense as well. This was an expansion but it has more content than some entire games. If you enjoyed your time in witcher 3 then without a doubt get this expac now. You will not be disappointed. Expand

These are only a few of the elements that will surround you in an happy or a dramatic way. The game is not as simple as defeating waves of enemies and ghastly monsters, even though you may enjoy this as well!
To draw the conclusions, I would say this is stuff to make you dream at night, to feel something like a piece of your heart has been, for a moment, in this land of wonders.

This expansion is made better than most other full games released this year. I seriously would nominate it for Game of the Year in 2016 if it were possible. A true masterpiece that every RPG fan should play.

I had a strong impression with the Witcher 3 Wild Hunt one of the best games I've ever played, and again the development company and the witcher 3 again surprised me because blood and wine DLC is too good, I think it is better than the original wild hunt, a DLC game attractive for everyone to spend money to buy it, I believe so .

Every second of Blood & Wine is rich with beautiful scenery, superb voice acting and as always, a phenomenal story. I can wholeheartedly say it's worth the £16, and if you manage to get it for less you will almost feel like you've robbed the developers.

You can truly feel how much care they have put in to this final instalment in the Witcher 3 saga, and they could not have wrapped it

You can truly feel how much care they have put in to this final instalment in the Witcher 3 saga, and they could not have wrapped it up in a more satisfying fashion. I will say however that for maximum appreciation, play it after you have completed the main story. I won't say any more than that, but I would say it's quite an important recommendation for how satisfied it will leave you feeling at the end.

The amount of content and the quality of that content is overwhelming. Compared to other so-called "DLC" that are being produced by most companies in the market, this should be considered as a full game. And a very beautiful and entertaining game to say the least.

It’s definitely an expansion that lives up to its name. If you’ve played the previous expansion for this title, Hearts of Stone, you’ll know what to expect in terms of quantity. This time, you’ll have a completely new land area to explore with many missions. Like the other expansion, there are both main storyline quests and also many optional quests added.

Before I get started on the expansion itself, I do want to point out some facts regarding the update that preceded this expansion. This game update changed the game significantly, not just with fixing bugs, but also with improving gameplay. It’s clear that the developers listened to client feedback when they made this patch because all of the actions that were troublesome in The Witcher 3 were fixed.

For example, item categorization has been extremely improved, with divisions of types of items. The world map has an improved interface to help speed up navigation. It is also now extremely easy to read through unread notes. There’s now no need to scramble through the inventory to search for unread notes, there’s simply a shortcut key that will detect all unread notes automatically for you to scroll through. This update, available for those who didn’t even purchase the expansion, actually made me revisit the game! I spent several days exploring the world and doing sidequests without even touching the expansion I bought!

Back onto the topic of the expansion. The optional quests definitely aren’t fetch quests. Each one has different characters and have complete voice acting with its own objectives. It may be true that few of the bosses are recycled between an optional quest and a main storyline mission, but it’s not a big deal because the new land introduces many completely new enemy types.

As well, a new gwent deck, the Skellige deck, is added along with a new tournament sidequest. Many people were angry because you have to use the new deck in the tournament in this expansion, but it’s actually quite fun learning how to use another deck and actually makes it a bit more challenging. In order to build a Skellige deck, one will need to win gwent against numerous characters in the expansion.

Otherwise, the gameplay flaws present in the base game are still present in the expansion, but they’re not too bad. Yes, the combat can get repetitive after some time. I’d encourage players to talk to characters, then do some quests where you fight enemies, then talk to some more characters again.

But, this game and its expansion really are the definition of high fantasy. For those who may take a long break before completing the game, there are data entry pages available in the game to read up on characters and enemies. These kinds of small details aren’t present in games nowadays.

In fact, I enjoy preparing for fights because the beastiary in the game clearly details enemy weaknesses. Some people even go as far as to say that Geralt is a high fantasy version of Batman, due to how much he prepares for fighting. On the other hand, people also claim that the combat in this game is similar to Batman, which is meant to be an offense because recent Batman games are known for having combat mechanics where one mashes a button or two. It’s true that the combat in this game can be reduced to button mashing, but affecting battles through using potions and oil is an option that makes battles fun and quicker. Customization options are certainly present within the game.

The amount of things to do in this expansion is limitless. The expansion’s main storyline may take 5 - 10 hours, with perhaps another 5 – 10 hours for all of its sidequests. The dialogue is really well-written and conversations will actually change significantly depending on your dialogue choices. The dialogue buttons do an amazing job at summarizing what Geralt is going to say when you select it without reducing detail. This is contrasted against Fallout 4, where the dialogue options are summarized too much and you’re not completely sure what your character is going to say. I’m not spoiling anything about the storyline, but it’s certainly on-par in terms of quantity with the main game and the expansion. If you purchased the game and its first expansion, there’s no excuse for not purchasing the second expansion.

It’s not something I say often, but I feel like I’m scamming them when I play this game, due to how much I’m getting compared to how much I’m paying.

CD Projekt, the developer of this game, is definitely one of the leaders in today’s gaming generation. It’s strange, I played the original Witcher back in the fall of 2007 and I remember that the game tried to do a lot, but had severe budget limitations. I’m really happy that, due to their hard work and success, CD Projekt has become a leader in the gaming industry, now making multimillion dollar video games in the industry.

I wholeheartedly look forward to CD Projekt’s next game.

The new setting tousaint is amazing and ill be spending much more time Also some of the boss fights are incredibly challenging on higher difficultys It has a very memorible story and the ending i got was a pretty good way too send it off side quests are great and some of the other tweaks to the leveling system are pretty good the new gear is cool and the side quests are great usually having some sort of twist to them and are pretty lengthy voice acting is great dialogue options are meningfull with some major consequences. And if this is truly the last we will see of geralt then they sent it off excellently and could be argued as a better send off than uncharted 4.There is an AMAZING amount of value here and if youre a witcher 3 fan You will not and I mean not be disapointed with what you get by far my favorite game I have ever played and when you see that last scene it gives a weird feeling that makes you think this is it isnt it and that final shot gives you a nice feeling. This game is a true masterpiece on its own but the two dlc's just give it an even better reputation.CD PROJEKT RED have shown that you dont need billions of euro's to make a great game but what you need is developers that WANT to do their job wright and make a game with an amazing story great characters and more. And I hope there next two games cyber punk 2077 and the unnanounced game can be great aswell. This dlc you cannot pass up on if youre a witcher 3 player even if you got bored off the witcher this will certenally get you back in it. This DLC alone should be the game of the year 2016. It is really this good and this big.
It makes almost all other full games pale in comparison.

If only CD is able to optimize the loading time when Geralt dies I would happily give it a 20 out 10.

this is probably the best DLC ever made. New enemies, new locations, new soundtrack, new items and new, amazing story.
Other developers would sell Blood and Wine as a normal full game, and obviously for ~40$.

Notable story, interesting gameplay, awesome soundtrack, splendid characters, new quests, new location — everything mentioned here makes the DLC great. Perfect last DLC for one of the best RPG games. Besides the plot might be a bit weaker than in the first DLC Hearts of Stone, side quests and stories are fantastic, fun and exciting.
With new location (it's not Velen/Novigrad again, like in Hearts of Stone), this is like a new game.
If you played Witcher 3, you must buy and play it.

The Witcher 3: Blood & Wine is an exceptional expansion that reignites a sense of wonder even for players who have put in hundreds of hours so far. The breadth and variety of all that’s included stands stronger than many full-priced sequels. As a twenty-dollar add-on, it’s absolutely worthwhile.
