    I am about 5-6 hours into this game and I think my opinion on it is solidified but I have to mention that I have not finished it. That being said, this is an excellent execution of what is now a tried and true formula in soulslike metroidvanias, along with salt and sanctuary and death's gambit especially. The meat and potatoes of this game is its combat, and it is excellent. Like death'sI am about 5-6 hours into this game and I think my opinion on it is solidified but I have to mention that I have not finished it. That being said, this is an excellent execution of what is now a tried and true formula in soulslike metroidvanias, along with salt and sanctuary and death's gambit especially. The meat and potatoes of this game is its combat, and it is excellent. Like death's gambit, there is no collision detection with enemy models, meaning you only take damage from attack animations and can freely pass through enemies without rolling. This is a design choice I wish more devs would make with this type of game, but beyond that, combat is weighty, control is tight and fluid, and both combat and platforming feel top notch. Bosses are difficult and exhilarating to overcome, and the basic enemies are decently varied. Music is good, especially boss music, and the sound design overall is pretty good. There are a ton of weapons, maybe a little too many, and the combat system itself is unique and interesting. There are magic attacks for range with a slowly regenerating bar, and weapons have a certain combo threshold which will cause both stamina and magic to regen more quickly. I don't really have any negatives right now, maybe that will change by the time I've finished it and I will update but so far this game accomplishes what it sets out to do flawlessly.… Expand

    With a simple story and a play time of roughly 20 hours, The Tarnishing of Juxtia is a fun bite sized adventure for those looking for something with a little difficulty to it. There aren’t too many gripes to be had with the game but one of the biggest flaws to be seen is the fact that combat can start to feel repetitive outside of boss fights and some of the enemies have some outlandish attacks that may feel unfair to some players. This is definitely a game worth picking up and is a wonderful addition to the ever growing genre of souls like games but with its own charm to make it stand out from the rest.

    The atmospheric pixel based visuals with dark fantasy vibe are pleasing to the eyes. And the challenging boss battle represents the unique tension of Souls-like. However, the balance of weapon upgrade system and the overall tension of the game collapse simultaneously after the second half of the game.

    The Tarnishing of Juxtia is not a title that shines for originality, especially in what is a scene already full of soulslike and products ready to mimic its main features. Yet in its proposing already known but not trivial gameplay mechanics, it offers a playful experience that manages to entertain, thanks to very exciting boss fights and an effective artistic direction. In short, if you want to experience a journey full of arduous and exciting challenges, you should take it into consideration.
