A walking simulator copying a lot from other games, TSORF remains independent, while reminding of its numerous role models. Unfortunately, all the details are executed carelessly, and the story appears diffuse and haphazard. So much would have been possible, but here we are left with just a lame linear tube that you feel forced into rather than immersed in.

Let me preface this by saying that I was not offended by the game's content in any way. I don't mind depictions of predatory sexual relationships. I absolutely loved Saya no Uta. This is not why I dislike the game.

First of all, there are several mechanics that would have made the game very interesting, but they are only used once and then discarded.

For example, there is a point in the game where the power goes out and the only light source at your disposal is an old Polaroid camera, so you are using the camera's flash to catches glimpses of where you are going. Creepy as hell, right? How scary would it be if you saw something spooky, or, better yet, if you saw nothing but the photo itself showed something different than what you saw? Spooky! Well, nothing like that ever happens. You only use the camera for about 20 seconds and then never again for the rest of the game.

But then you find a weird EMF parabolic mic thingy that captures static noise, like they do in those silly ghost-hunting shows. Maybe you'll hear spooky stuff! Maybe you'll hear secret messages or whispers or other creepy sounds! Nope. You hear nothing. You use it literally only once to find something stupid and then never again.

Second of all, the story is a pile of garbage. It starts out quite well, making you ask questions that keep you intrigued, and just when I was starting to get into the story, it ended. And the ending is like a fart in your face that offers no pay-off or closure whatsoever. And I don't mean that in the "the real monsters in the closet are our own emotional baggage coming back to haunt us" sort of way. I would have been fine with that. What I mean is that the resolution of the story was incredibly stupid and contrived and an insult to the player's intelligence.

This game had so much potential: A person stranded in an empty "haunted" building with only one person to talk to on the radio, developing cabin fever, growing paranoid and neurotic, their sanity unraveling with each passing day. Is the building really haunted or is it a mental health issue? But no, all you get is a milquetoast story with a stupid stupid stupid ending.

This game sounded interesting to me so I went in with no idea about it. Speaking positively for the game the story is interesting enough even though its teen horror level, the sort where you'll work out the real culprit before the end of the first chapter, and Irving is an interesting character however thats the only good things I can say about this game, sadly.

You spend the entire game as "Nicky", a character you will not develop any attachment to at all as all you ever see of her is her hands, the gameplay is also brain meltingly boring, to and fro, to and fro, to and fro through the same corridors and rooms with a lot of backtracking amounting to nothing more than a walking simulator. You can run, but theres no need to do so at all through the entire game. Even the multiple endings are.. well, not to sound harsh but crap. You could forgive the gameplay if the story had a solid payoff by the end of it but it just doesn't.

I'm not one to prioritise graphics in games but a game like this REALLY needs to draw you in to the world with polished visuals and sadly it doesn't have that either. At worst it looks like something from the early PS2 days, and at best something from the early PS3 days. Performance-wise the game also won't impress, I played on PC and the graphical difference between "low" and "Epic" is nil, save for some heavy post processing AA which makes everything look far too blurry and more heavy bloom on "High" and "Epic" settings, so most people will likely stick to "Medium" so they don't feel like they are playing with vaseline over their eyes. Something also feels very off with this game I also had screen tearing with everything set to "Epic" quality but the game felt like it was running at 20FPS even with sensitivity turned right up with both mouse and keyboard and controller setups.

I had high hopes for this game but ultimately it needed more time in the oven to better develop existing endings and add a couple more and to vastly improve visuals in order to draw the player in these things would have gone a long way to significantly improving this game. Overall this game is definitely one that if you are interested in look for a game movie of it on youtube as actually playing it will bore you to death.

Nice story and great sound. It is a very tranquil investigative story with slight scare effects. It felt like gone home or maybe rather even Ethan Carter.

The suicide of Rachel foster is a 3 hour long mystery walking simulator game where you play as Nicole, who was left a creepy abandoned hotel after the passing of her father.. a hotel that holds the past and pain of Nicole and her family… all of which revolves around the suicide of a girl named Rachel Foster… You go to check out the old place, and wouldn’t you know.. you get snowed in… youre able to talk with someone thanks to new technology known as a a cell phone… and they help you find the items you need to survive until help and come get your out of there…and this game is creepy… I wasn’t expecting to be creeped out at all.. I was expected a sad, depressing, narrative adventure.. but this wasn’t what I was givn.. I was given an unsettling mystery… things start happening and you begin to wonder if youre alone… if Rachel truly did commit suicide, is she was murdered.. if shes still alive as her family believes… and of course you set out to solve this mystery… day after day, gathering clues, equipped with a map, getting closer and closer to the truth…. And this game while is delivered very slowly, offers a really immersive mystery experience… The setting is creepy, full of mystery and intrigue… This is one of the most immersive games ive placed in a while, the story feels real, you feel as though you are in this world, especially playing with headphones…
My only knock, though a major knock against this game is how little new this game does, nothing crazy happens, and the game hardly changes up…
The beginning hour pulls you in, but the remaining two drag you along at a very slow pace.. if it weren’t for the mystery of it all, this would be a very hard game to get through, as it struggled at times to keep my attention..
All in all though, The Suicide of Rachel Foster will surprise you, it’s a mystery that mystery fans would enjoy getting to the bottom of..
I give the suicide of Rachel foster
    a 6.5/10

Oh, you still here? Want to know more? Okay... TSoRF combines various things we love from aforementioned games. For starters, there is a big empty house to explore (actually a hotel, but it was home to the protagonist), and it's wonderfully designed. You'll have this particular feel of nostalgia while exploring it, thanks to exemplary use of music/sounds and requisites from '90s, among other things. Moreover, the environment has astounding amount of details in service of telling a personal story of a family torn apart by tragedy.

With a blizzard raging outside, it can be scary to explore the vast building in mountains on your own, especially when power is going off and you are left in the dark. Mysterious sounds of wind, walls or floors also play major role in giving you the chills. However, the game is no horror and there is nothing supernatural in it.

Fortunately, you are not entirely alone in this adventure. There is a friendly voice on the cellphone, guiding you through the hotel cut off by snowstorm and soothing Nicole's loneliness (and your anxiety). He gives you advice and lets the protagonist express her feelings. With stellar voice-acting, well written (and interactive) dialogues and charismatic characters, evolving relation between Nicole and Irving is no less interesting than the one of Henry and Delilah from Firewatch. And that means a lot.

All in all, however, TSoFR is far from greatness of What Remains of Edith Finch. Repetitive walking around the same places in the hotel can be boring (particularly when it is unclear what you should do next in this 'open world' to push the story further and the plot's pacing gets ruined, especially considering Nicole's moving soooo slowly), also characters sometimes talk too much. And there are some minor technical problems here and there, with poor optimization on top of them.

Anyway, to sum it all up, The Suicide of Rachel Foster is a solid adventure game and a brilliant thriller. I strongly recommend it, especially if you like titles that are not afraid of picking up on difficult subjects and use them with care, to enrich and deepen the story. TSoRF is a strong competitor in this territory, and this reason alone should be more than enough to play this game.

Let me repeat that: *Romanticizes pedophilia for a disabled girl.*

Pretty game, intriguing story from the start. Then it starts painting the *pedophile* as a tragic romantic and blatantly ignores how utterly gross and wrong his actions were. It is physically nauseating to finish playing through because of it.

Everything about the game was great up until MC's companion starts cooing about how it was a "simple love."

After all was said and done, The Suicide of Rachel Foster remains an intriguing story exploration game with great suspense, and I felt that the conclusion justified the journey. However, despite being captivating at times, I did wish the truth revealed would’ve conveyed more of a message and less of a story.
